I ordered from Pizza City for the first time today, the staff was prepped and ready to take orders at opening (4:00PM sharp), being a new customer my address was confirmed several times by the staff to ensure prompt delivery. With a price total and delivery time estimate (40 Minutes), I eagerly awaited for the order to arrive. Lo and behold after about 40 minutes (if not less) the driver arrived with the pizza, which was about as warm as if it had come directly from the oven itself (Thanks to their neat delivery truck no doubt). The driver was extremely courteous and friendly. Todays order consisted of a Large Meat Supreme Pizza (Bacon, Sausage, Meatballs, and Pepperoni), Fries, and Fountain Drinks. The bacon and sausage used for pizza toppings were phenomenal, so much so that unfortunately the flavor of the pepperoni and meatballs were drowned out. The crust stroke a good balance between soft and firm, and the sauce was excellent- rivaling the flavor of both the bacon and sausage with a nice spice to it, which was surprising. Most places have a weak sauce game, having almost no kick, or worse yet being almost sweet in flavor- suffice to say that isn't an issue here, and Pizza City is a rare exception where i'm actually looking forward to trying the pasta at a pizza-place. The fries were good, I couldn't quite tell what kind of oil they were fried in, but they had decent flavor on their own which only became better as I added a little extra salt to them. While a little on the soggy side they had more than enough crispness to keep together and didn't break or fray while being handled or dipped (Just the way i like them!) but a bit more firmness couldn't hurt. Since last year, there is a new owner who has changed the menu a bit. Positives: Some of the new appetizers are good. They now take debit/credit cards as payment. Neutral: They don't have pork products anymore. While they use things like beef bacon or Turkey ham now in their food, it's really dependent on if you like that or not. Also, I don't think that's revealed on the menu that the bacon is beef bacon, or that the Italian meats in the salad aren't pork based. Transparency is something nice to have. They have desserts now. I'm never gonna get them, but it's something to note. Negatives: They removed fountain sodas. Not a lot of pizza places around there do fountain sodas, so I was really upset to see them go, and be replaced with the sodas you can buy as a six-pack at the grocery store or a can or two liter. They changed the onion rings (at least the last time I ordered them), their fries change on occasion (I guess based on whatever is cheaper to order at that moment. So consistency is lost.) It takes so much longer now for delivery- they used to say 30 minutes but it would feel like they're already at your door the moment you ended the call, now it's longer and the delivery people aren't the same friendly faces we've seen for a long time. read more

Ordered a 14" plain pie and order of fries well done last night. The fries were barely cooked! Would hate to see what a regular order looks like? Stay away! If they can't get an order of fries right? Been ordering from here for YEARS. We're not even in the neighborhood so we have to pick it up, that's how you know you really like their pizza. Place recently changed hands and it is beyond obvious. We order pepperoni and sausage EVERY time. Last month we ordered the same pie as always and when hubby got it home, it was pepperoni and ground beef. He called complained, they apologized but nothing was ever mentioned about the sausage by the new employees. Ordered again tonight....same exact thing (never even occurred to me to check it) pepperoni and ground beef....they use no pork products. If you are going to pull all pork products bc of your own dietary restrictions, you might think about mentioning that! read more

I was put on the phone with the owner offering me three more free cheesesteaks and free delivery why would I want three more free cheesesteaks when you just ruined my appetite with a poorly wrapped cheesesteak initially in the first place? John and the crew are ROCKSTARS!!! I have been a Pizza City customer for almost 20 years. I live about 2 hours away and when I come in to Philly I get my fix if Pizza City. This is hands down the best pizza with in 200 miles. The person bitchin about too much cheese cracks me up. Thats what makes this pizza the best. Plenty of cheese and other toppings. Pizza city is a small take out pizza shop on Frankford Ave in Mayfair. Take out only no tables. It is a no fuss type of shop. He does Pizza and he does it well. Not sure if it is the owner or not behind the counter but this guy treats the place as if it is. He takes phone calls, takes walk in orders, makes the food, rings you up and every time I've been there he has had a welcoming smile for me. Everything we have had so far has been very good. We only have had one minor problem and it was handled above and beyond. So I give it a try and I have to say, I was not let down. The French fries were on point, crispy on the outside soft on be inside, still piping hot. The pizza (although - little too saucy for me) was flavorful and adequate on the cheese. The amount of sausage was proportional to the pie. It wasn't super greasy. It was a little thin in the center but it didn't change my opinion. My daughter had the fried chicken, she said it was her favorite fried chicken ever. The ingredients were flavorful and the pizza crust was ever-so-good. Here is something that makes Pizza City stand out: the tomato-pie pizza (as recommended by the owner). With this pizza, it just seems like the proportions of tomato sauce layered on top of cheese has been perfected. And although I cannot prove this, I really believe the tomato sauce used on this particular type of pizza, is different and of higher quality then the tomato sauce used on the other pizza pies. The Atmosphere: (average) This is a pizza shop on Frankford Avenue in Northeast Philly, its not the most glamorous settings, but for what it is, it is adequate, clean, and inviting. Consistent with the taste, texture and appearance, I can honestly see why they have remained in operation for as long as the have. Last year I wrote a raving review about Pizza City because their food is amazing. Although the food is amazing their customer service is seriously lacking but I never let that stop me from ordering from here. I'm a frequent costumer I order 2/3 times a week. If I don't pick it up I order for delivery or I have somebody else pick it up for me. There's never usually a problem with my order and if it is they usually resolve it. Well not tonight. I order pretty much the same things every single time I call, now if they had an actual computer system they would be able to see that. The guy who picked up the phone seemed a little off. He couldn't get my order right. I had to keep telling him how I wanted my sandwiches. I ordered my sandwich last, I asked for a steak sandwich with no cheese. The guy said "plain steak". I never order a "plain steak" the first time I did here I got scolded so I never did it again. I then explain to him what I would like on my sandwich then he abruptly hung up. I felt like there was going to be an error but gave him the benefit of doubt. Of course I pick up my order, come home and my sandwich is completely plain. I call back and let them know. They put the owner on and he literally tried to make it seem like it was my fault. "Well a plain steak is a plain steak nothing on it". I tried to tell him I didn't order a plain steak. I ordered a steak with no cheese whoever took my order put down plain steak. He kept cutting me off and made it seem like it was such a problem, that I didn't even want anything from him. If your guy made a mistake just fix it, mistakes happen, don't argue with the customer when it was an error on your end.
