We went here because they supposedly have some of the best whoopie pies in the Bangor Area. We got some whoopie pies and ordered a 16" sausage and pepperoni pizza. The pizza pie was fabulous and we all agreed it would be worth the 30 minute drive to get a good pizza. The crust was out of this world. The whoopie pie was voted the favorite by one of the three of us. They liked the thickness of the devils food and said it approached brownie consistency. A great local stop! read more

We go there pretty often and been satisfied. Best subs ever and the whoppie pies are second to none. We ship them to WI!! If I could make one suggestion, we love the Asian Chicken Salad and went there often for it. They used to cook chicken tenders for the salad until they began using processed chicken which ruined that for us, but we just stick with other options which are best ever! read more

I wish I had known Pizza Gourmet was known for their whoopie pies before I ordered! I would have tried those out too. Maybe next time. As far as accommodations go, Pizza Gourmet has a shared parking lot with plenty of spaces. They have a cozy dining area that can fit quite a few people, so don't worry about bringing a larger party out to eat. The pizza is decent. The pie had a golden brown base with a nice, fluffy crust. The sauce was tasty and the cheese was of good quality. There are a few spices sprinkled on top of the cheese which add some complexity - but I keep getting an interesting hint of cinnamon. This was the best food I had in the area over the weekend. My MIL purchased Italian sandwiches for me and my wife when we arrived in Thursday night. These were truly great Maine Italian Sandwiches, I think this was better than Amato's IMHO. Then, I got pizza last night and that was just as good. With they were open past eight at night, ur apparently, the town of Hampden turns back into pumpkins or something. read more

The dough has a cinnamon taste to it which is neither really good or bad. Crust is soft and doughy, I prefer more of a thin crust. It's still good though. It's a saucy pizza which is also something I enjoy. The wings on the other hand, are awful. They are deep fried which is fine if done correctly. We ordered hot wings and they tasted as if they were just deep fried plain wings. No sauce to them, no spice, no heat. Crusty and very dry. I won't be ordering those again. The staff is friendly enough and the whoopie pies look good though I have yet to try them. read more

We drive 30+ miles to eat at Pizza Gourmet. We agree it is THE best pizza around!! And, we have tried lotsa pizza!!! There's a little something extra in the crust, The sauce is very good and the toppings are delicious. They are sandwiches and salads are equally as impressive. And then there are the whoopie pies. Without a doubt the best whoopie pie ever to cross my lips!!! Save some of your pizza for later so that you can enjoy your dessert! The people that work here are also very very nice. This is the perfect locally owned pizzeria with a Maine flair. The pizza is not inexpensive but they use high quality, fresh ingredients. The dough is unlike any I've ever tasted it has a hint of county fair doughboy to it. It tastes like they have added a hint of cinnamon or something, and it works really well even though it sounds like it wouldn't be a good blend of taste with pizza. But to be honest why I really have them 5 stars are the Whoopie pies. I feel like they just cook the cake part in the pizza ovens because there is almost a crispiness to them. The filling has a butter cream taste but more of a marshmallow consistency. And they refrigerate the pies (genius!) so when you bite into it the crispiness of the cake part doesn't get soggy. The crunch plus sweet frosting and chocolate makes this my favorite whoopie pie and I've tried many. read more

Expensive! Toppings are sparse so order extra on pizza. Subs are excellent, they have hot and cold. Homemade whoopie pies in the cooler are a must-have. They have drinks in a cooler by the counter. At the time of this review they hadn't set up dining in again, there was take out only. When they did have dine-in service they bring your food out to you but that's the end of the interaction. A bit like a take out place that has seating. The pizza is standard fare, nothing special, but better than Pat's or Angelo's so they have that going for them. read more

One of the better pizza places in the area. Pizza is reasonably priced and the quality is definitely above average. My one complaint would be my wait. We ordered 2 pizzas for take out and were told about 30 minutes. After arriving there I paid and waited inside for close to a half hour. I went up twice during this time to ask about the wait and was told it would be just a few more minutes. If my order isn't going to be ready in 30 minutes, please don't tell me it will be. I was in the area visiting family members and wouldn't have visited this establishment had I been notified about the actual time it would take since it was already out of my way. Gone down hill. The food is usually pretty good but recently they've been messing up every order. The chef salad I got today was lettuce, an egg and a burnt piece bacon. They "forgot" all of the meat and cheese. I took it back and asked for a refund which I received, but no apology. When I returned to work I realized that a co-workers sub, meatball and sausage, was made with only meatballs. Too bad for the decline. This used to be our "go-to" lunch place. read more

Came here for dinner with family as it is a family tradition that I'd just been introduced to. The place has the appearance of a nice neighborhood family pizzeria. We placed our drink orders at the window and then were seated. They had a good selection of macrobrews and a few local micros. When we were seated, there was a TV and a large table for our large party. The selection of pizzas is great! They had good standby's like a meatlovers (Meatsy Eatsy), Chicken BBQ, and others. They also had creative types like their famous Pizza Mac (imagine a Big Mac pizza, so good!), chicken hot wing, and chicken alfredo trio. We had an order of fried pickle spears which were really good, and came with ranch dipping sauce. We were not rushed, and were provided with the check in a timely fashion. We had a lot of pizza left over and ate it for lunch the next day (still really good!) They had huge whoopie pies for dessert. Will definitely come back the next time we're in Maine. The outside looks normal but the food was not that great. Someone in my group got a weight watchers pizza and liked it. I got the hot wings, I was expecting spicy wings but they weren't. Plus they were a little dry. Overall it wasn't that good of a experience. If I had to I would go again but I wasn't very pleased. read more

So my favorite pizza place in this area, Tesoros, has been sold and while I wait to see if the new owner keeps their fabulous New York pizza, I decided to check out this pizza shop. I will say I was disappointed - the sauce had no flavor tasted like tomato paste watered down, the dough was not the worst I've had but definitely not impressive add to the fact that it wasn't fully cooked through and not crispy on the bottom and it just added to my disappointment. Just helped my daughter move up to Maine and saw the good reviews for this local pizza place. We got a comb. pizza and their cheese stuffed breadsticks and it was delicious. They don't have fountain soda pop and they do not have delivery. They are in the process of updating and had a fresh coat of paint on all the walls. We saw several people come in and buy their whoopie pies due to the fact they were 2013 Metro Bangor best restaurant for whoppie pies. Quaint and nice atmosphere. read more
