We were driving back from Bar Harbor and wanted something cheap, casual, and fast for dinner. I saw the reviews for Zeppa's, which were unbelievably high (which made me feel somewhat skeptical), and pizza sounded good after a road trip, so we decided to swing by. We called to place an order for dine-in, which in retrospect was a bit of a weird request, but we were in a rush, and they accommodated that. We knew we were in for a treat the minute we walked in. The cozy ambiance, the board games, and the smell of fresh dough made me quickly understand what made Zeppa's special. It's basically a third place, a community spot. Our pizza was ready, and we accompanied it with a local beer (they had quite the variety). We ordered a large white pizza and added spicy Italian sausage. Although my husband and I are not the biggest fans of NY-style pizza (we prefer thicker ones), that was hands down the best pizza we've had in Maine. The dough was absolutely insane, it had the perfect amount of cheese and oil, and they didn't skimp on the spicy sausage! The staff was also lovely, checking on us throughout our meal. We devoured the whole pie, but I'm blaming that on the hike we had done earlier in the day. I think we just found the perfect casual dinner spot for our Acadia getaways.

Visiting Maine from NY, I was excited to try "NY" pizza ... in Maine. I was a little shook-ith on the first attempt they were sold out of pies! Cray cray. So we had to dine another day. In person this place was packed, a smaller dining room but it's a pizza joint not a full blown restaurant so we took our stuff to go. The dining room was fun, wooden, and had lots of games a nice touch. It also told a little history of the place and how it came to be. So we were entertained as we waited. Only 20 min which was nice and there's some vegan options. We tried the meatball garlic knots, definitely a good choice and a margharita pie. Not to shabby, I would come back. Slightly disgruntled an item when ordering was left off but that's sort of our own fault for not noticing on the receipt.

I can see why they are getting such good reviews. It's not like Italy but it's pretty darn good!! Great friendly service and warm welcoming dining area, not too large. Cozy. Price was reasonable. 24 for a two topping large!! 8 slices of New York size... will be back

This place offers pizza in a small setting with dog-based decor. The options they had out for slices on the go were mostly non-vegetarian, but a slice of cheese was within my ambit. Their cheese delivered robust flavor with a crispy crust dusted with cornmeal or something like it and a hint of basil on top. If I wanted to order a whole pizza, I would have had abundant options. There's not a ton of non-pizza options, but I don't expect it in a place like this. The location is a good stop along the way to Bar Harbor, and having spotted it on the way in, I was happy to have stopped there on the way out.

Nice thin crust, not soggy in the middle despite the generous toppings.

Tasty, NY style pizza. We got the loaded one and had leftovers for the next few days. They had a nice variety of beer and ciders, and a few choices for wine. They are clearly avid dog lovers and that theme plays out all through the small restaurant

Why haven't we been here before now ?!? Our loss, but now we've found it. Yea. Very tasty thin crust pizza- perfect amounts of sauce and toppings. There were several pizzas in the counter case ready to go as slices. I LOVED the white pizza- light and delicious. The meatball pizza was also very good. Super friendly service, indoor seating great for individuals and families. Homemade cannolis for dessert. Parking on the street.

White pizza with sweet Italian sausage added.

The pizza was delicious, with that soft chewy foldable crust characteristic of NY style. We also had the garlic knots and they were equally tasty. The service was excellent--everyone who I interacted with was very friendly and personable. (Pardon the terrible photography; the picture was an afterthought.)

We walked over from the main strip of downtown and loved the vibe as soon as we arrived. Walking down the stairs to get to the brewery versus the glass blowing shop was so cute. With apples on the ground from the apple trees, it couldn't be more "Maine". When walking in, you order at the bar for both food and drink and then there is a booth/trailer out back where the food comes out. The inside is set up for open mic night and then outside they have a full stage where they host live music. There is plenty of seating outside at the picnic tables as well. We ordered a couple beers, the Margherita pizza, the potato chips, and the Carrot Top salad. I cannot tell you howwwwwwwww amazing the salad was!! I have never had a salad like this and I ate every last bite. The roasted carrots were so good, combined with the crispy onions and the dressing; it was heaven. The chips were incredible and the dip that comes with it just elevates it that much more. I believe it was a pickle dip of some sort? I can't remember specifically, just that I needed a vat of it. Then the pizza?! We couldn't finish it but man did we want to! Add all this tasty food to a beautiful backdrop and we were the happiest little foodies in Maine. Hands down best stop in Ellsworth!

It was then that I discovered that they made pizza in one of those wood-fired, outside stone ovens. They are only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons so it took me 2 years to get there but I finally made it. It is a farm, a goat farm, where you can buy goat cheese, goat pepperoni (goateroni), and buy and eat a pizza. There were 5 pizzas on the menu. They are not cheap ($13 for a pizza the size of a paper dinner plate) but they are delicious! We were really hungry so we planned to eat a pizza each but then we ordered a third and all of them were worth it. See my picture of the chalkboard menu. We ordered # 2,3, and 4. I have to say that the one with the caramelized onions was the best, probably because of the bite of the goat and feta cheeses. Watch the pizzas cook. It takes about 2 minutes. There is a long, high table to eat at or some Adirondack chairs to sit at eat under cover in case of rain or too much sun. However, this did not work well for my wheelchair companion so we just ate in the car. I also took home a chunk of cheese. Unfortunately, the pizza maker did not know what it tasted like but he was honest about it. It was delicious. Worth the trip if you like Neopolitan pizza with the thin and ever so slightly charred crust. Otherwise, eat elsewhere.

We waited over an hour for a large half-pepperoni, half-cheese pizza. The burger and fries we ordered came out in about 30 minutes, but the waitress bringing out the burger said the pizza was coming. Twenty minutes later we inquired again, only to be told they were backed up. We got that message from the 50-minute wait, but when people who ordered pizza after us, received their pizza before we did, we knew this place had issues. When the lady finally brought out the pizza, she was like, "sorry," but big deal, by then the damage was already done. They made no efforts to make it up to us, especially considering we had waited so long. Very disappointing. They really didn't care about our two han-gry (hungry and angry) kids who really wanted to eat that pizza. The restaurant had a fairly steady flow of customers ordering, but it was not crowded or overwhelming. People enjoyed food and drinks around their tables and watching the big screen televisions with trivia and sports updates. Nobody was at the pool table. After waiting so long, my son was trying to be optimistic and said we should play some pool, since no one was playing. Then he saw the big sign that said only 18-year-olds and older, no exceptions! Needless to say, we were sorely disappointed with this experience. For a Monday night, where the pace was not very busy or unmanageable, this should not have been that hard to make a pizza in less than an hour. This was ridiculous. As a result, I do not recommend this place, especially if you have kids. Check out the other pizza places in town and save yourself a lot of time and frustration ... or order your dinner at lunchtime.
