A damn good pizza shop that has an almost vintage, late 70s, early 1980s decor. In an area of Ellsworth/Bar Harbor otherwise known for its craft IPA's, lobster rolls, and a dizzying plethora of seafood salad platters, Finelli does itself justice. Even on a Sunday night, they can do a brisk business & can sling it with the best. Their pizza comes with its sauce done circularly. And their half size meatball grinder should get a Silver Slugger award for its impressive enough portion size. Wow - it was good. Check out the retro arcade in the back, where $0.50 might get you a new high score on Defender, Frogger, Donkey Kong, or a half dozen other video games...all while Def Leppard's "Too Late For Love" might just be blaring overhead in the background. Yes we are from NY (Brooklyn & LI) so that should qualify us as pseudo-aficionados. The place is legit. I had a pepperoni slice, a mushroom onion slice, and a tomato pesto slice, all were very good. Crust was that perfect level of crispy and the cheese was slightly gooey. Sauce was great and in an ratio to all the other elements. Whenever we tire of seafood when visiting, we will be returning here. I'm sure there will be multiple visits this week. read more

I cannot get over how good this pizza is. The crust is NY worthy. I had two slices of pepperoni and my eyes rolled back in my head. I tried my companion's pesto tomato pie and it was outstanding. Wild eyed with pleasure describes how I felt. The counter person was sweet and there was plenty of seating. I will be back next weekend for my Sunday night pie. Holy pepperoni Batman! We love pizza so much that we make our own dough, red sauce, and have a Bertello pizza oven. I came to Finelli only because Zeppas had used all their dough balls and could no longer make pizza an hour before closing. I chose Zeppas because I wasn't sure if a Mainer could still make a good pizza after buying this joint from Fanelli. We got the 18 inch Bohemian, thanks to other recommendations and we got it well done "charred". The Neapolitan crust was perfectly crisp and they put just the right amount of cheese and sauce, so flavorful with minced garlic and peppercorn. Boy was I wrong choosing Zeppas as my first choice! Don't waste your time going anywhere but to Finelli's! I look forward to eating my leftover slices for breakfast! Come on bro! This place is a gem. The service is good here, welcoming. I had the Satyricon pizza (large sliced, filling and you don't feel overwhelmingly full at the end of your meal and the basil was nice and fresh). I'm not one for sausage but it definitely gave a nice touch. The chicken and salad were both good and the spicy honey is good (not for everyone), and there are assorted desserts like tiramisu and limoncello slices of cakes upon entry to tease (next trip!). Inside is a themed decor and on the walls there are local brews, though in the corner booths you may encounter some warmth so open the window while you eat if it's not windy. I have only tried the Satyricon pizza but def interested in other menu items. Overall excellent! read more

Finelli's is back on the list! After a drop in quality it seems like things are back to being very good. We came in for slices and the options did not disappoint. At noon on a weekday, six pies ready for purchase. The slices were then warmed in the oven and they were good. Nice thin crust pizza. Booth and table seating, not necessarily cute but the seating does the job. A great place to stop for a quick lunch. read more

Finelli pizza was one of the best pizza I ever ate anywhere!! Thank you helpers for helping me find this local gem!! However giving this anything less than 5 stars is crazy! Having grown up in Philly, lived in South Philly, and marrying into a brooklyn family, eating only the best pizza there is my entire adult life in Philly, NYC (brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, queens, and Long Island) and NJ (north to south and the shore) I can tell you that this is one of the best thin sliced NY slices I have ever eaten! I could tell that walking through the door when I smelled these slices!! The crust was super thin while maintaining the perfect texture on the bottom, crispy crust there, with a slight inner softer crust and holding all toppings very well! It had a delicious bright red sauce, delicious cheese and pepperoni. I enjoyed every single bite! I grabbed a tiramisu to share, which tasted so homemade and delicious that I had to grab another slice - chocolate peanut cheesecake - for the road. The service honestly couldn't be more welcoming and kind. Olivia was hosting and she is so kind and generous hearted. The ambiance is casual and cozy and they have booths and a game room which I love. I loved that the pizza is served hot. There are beautiful cat and pizza paintings on the walls! Hands down the best pizza in the Ellsworth area. The Bianca is absolutely delicious and worth a trip. The crust is perfect. The whole pizza was perfect. Just the right amount of garlic and pepper corn. Not at all soggy or mushy like some pizza places around these parts. They offer pizza by the slice too. There are a couple of tables, but nothing fancy. Several very busy, efficient and friendly employees keep the ovens hopping and customers very happy. read more

Shocked that I found the best Sicilian pizza I ever ate in Maine. Perfect bubbles of slightly over cooked crust and cheese encased the fluffy light dough. Sauce tasted home made and well cooked(no fake marinara after taste) and you can taste the Parmesan sprinkled over the sauce. Perfect ratio of sauce to mozzarella. Fresh basil. A delicious symphony of texture and fresh taste. Also had a regular large cheese with pepperoni and meatball. Again, perfect crust and sauce. Meatball was moist, rich and thicker slices, not those paper thin meat wafers on many pizzas. Love the 80s look, vibe and music. Seat yourself service. Lots of local beers available. Open kitchen where you can watch them cook was clean and tidy. So many things to like about this under the radar, exceptionally fine pizza place. Run and don't let the divey bar outside fool you. The pizza is outstanding NY/CT level. Only thing I can suggest is a deep clean of the walls bc the smokey ovens do leave layers of grease/grime over time. I love when a shop does slices. We popped in after a hike at Acadia, there were four choices for slices available, we went simple with cheese and pepperoni. While they were on the oven we grabbed a drink from the cooler and a seat. The pizza was good- chewy crust, bottom had integrity, not too greasy, simple ingredients. Would definitely get a full pie next time we are in town. The staff were super friendly, prepared for a busy Saturday night- but they were only a few of us there at 6pm. Finelli's Pizza has the best thin crust pizza in the Ellsworth area by far. Their pizza by the slice is very reasonable and its a nice atmosphere inside to enjoy a quick slice at lunch time. My daughter particularly likes that there is a game room, and on our last visit we met the owner or manager (not sure which) who was stocking up things in the game room in anticipation of taking some time off for the birth of his first child. Really nice guy. We ordered a bunch of pizzas for my daughters birthday party in March as well and the order was to be ready shortly after their opening time. Everything was flawless. read more

This is supposed to be the best pizza in Maine? Yikes. I should have known that any place who uses Doordash to deliver their food does not care about their delivery quality, so that's probably my fault. If they had made it clear on their website that that's how they do their deliveries I wouldn't have ordered. Way too many mushrooms on the pie I received, and the moisture inside the mushrooms caused it to be a soppy soggy mess. It was falling apart even when I folded it. Not very appetizing. The crust was pretty good though. It was the only thing somewhat enjoyable about this pie. The garlic knots were tiny, burned, and hard as a rock. They may have actually cat turds, now that I think about it. Just plain awful, and not even very garlicky at all. To top it all off I wanted some extra sauces for my wife and daughter to dip (they're dippers), which didn't come with the order, as well as a soda for my pregnant wife. We still got charged for them of course and if I wanted a refund I'd need to sot on the phone with Doordash. No thanks, I guess you can keep my $6. You win again Doordash. read more

Best slice in Downeast. Bianca pizza is a winner. The pepperoni you can't go wrong and their assorted slices are all excellent. The dough doesn't lack any crisp and is paper thin. Let me explain why I'm giving this place 2 stars. The employees were friendly and the service was quick. But we also just ordered an uncomplicated pepperoni pizza and two 20 ounce pops. The pizza taste was literally mediocre. There was nothing really noteworthy about the pizza itself. The crust seemed weird and overall the food was pretty boring. Now, the food might have seemed more enjoyable except that the ambiance took away from the experience. Though many other reviewers have commented about how special the architecture appeared, the actual concern was how filthy the walls were. The inside of the restaurant needs a major cleaning and repainting. After visiting the bathrooms I pretty much lost my appetite. I was staying in Ellsworth for a few days on business and felt like getting something quick and close to my hotel so I decided to check out Finelli. I walked in and was considering ordering a hot sandwich but was informed they were only serving pizza at that point in the day, 7 pm? I didn't understand why since it didn't seem very busy to me but I would be having pizza. I checked out the slices and opted to order a fresh pizza for myself. I sat down and waited and it took awhile from my perspective as it wasn't that busy. I'm from southern Connecticut and am used to waiting for pizza in places doing 20 times the business this place does and getting a pizza in about the same time or less. When my pizza came out it was nice and hot and it actually had a halfway decent crust. BUT there were areas of the pizza with no sauce and areas with a bunch of sausage and others with none. The sauce and toppings weren't evenly distributed and the pizza was sloppy. The sauce wasn't great and the sausage was tasteless. Since I was raised on great pizza I'm spoiled but this isn't anything close to what I know pizza to be and it's definitely not like New York pizza. I guess they can get away with calling it NY style in Maine. It's better than Pizza Hut and some of the greasy garbage they call pizza in Maine. read more

So the changes under new management and/or ownership continue... Stopped in for a pie to go. On a weekday night and not too busy, it was a 25 minute wait. No problem. Downeast operates at a different speed. However a large 1/2 pepperoni set me back more than $20 which is quite a bit more than I pay in the Philadelphia suburbs. Still a decent pie, unlike the Bianca which has been downgraded. When you check out on the iPad, and get to the tipping page, it appears that you have no choice but to leave a tip for takeout. Look closely at the screen because the MUCH lighter appearing options of "custom" and "no tip" are there but almost invisible. This seems very shady. I don't mind tipping. I mind when there is no option as to how much I get to tip. read more
