We walked to this classic neighborhood watering hole. Tucked away in one of the older neighborhoods, the pub on the first floor was all twinkle lights and mahogany. We had made a reservation for a birthday dinner for a family member early in the day before they opened. Everything was all set for a great dinner at Cosmo's. Upon our arrival, we were informed that the chef was not there and that we could only eat in the bar, which offered a slim variety of food options. This was not ideal as we had not been informed of this until after we had arrived and made arrangements to expect a nice dinner upstairs. The bar food was good, but it was a slight disappointment as it was not what we expected. I would hope that if this were to happen again, they should call those who have made reservations to let them know of this change, as it would have allowed my party to look for dining elsewhere. read more

Been the best neighborhood bar in my world for maybe 20 years, and I don't even live in Kalamazoo anymore. Bar itself is a work of art; dark wood, huge and real. This is not some tricked up franchise, designed to make you feel like you're really into something authentic. Only place in Michigan I've found that can properly pour a pint of Guinness. O'Duffy's really is the quintessential neighborhood pub and the food is phenomenal. All dishes are hot created equal here but if you make savvy selections you'd be hard pressed to find a finer meal in the area. My husband thought his red pepper pasta dish was me, and our friends teenage son was full on Gordon Ramsay dissing the nachos that his dad ordered, but I hit the jackpot with my crab cake appetizer and warm whipped goat cheese with berry, compote and sugared dehydrated berries, served with a generous loaf of warm bread. I'm pretty sure I have tried every incarnation of brie and goat cheese appetizers in the greater Kalamazoo area and this one reigns supreme and among the most perfect dishes I've ever enjoyed. We love seeing our friend's band perform here and the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. It's worth noting that they have turned the parking lot into an additional seating area, so parking can be a pickle and there isn't much in the way of options for accessible parking nearby (which seems to be the case and much of downtown Kalamazoo and the nearby neighborhoods). read more

We had a last-minute need for a nice place to celebrate, and we're very thankful the staff at Cosmo's was willing to accommodate our party of five! The atmosphere is very "old English pub" on the downstairs, which is where we were seated. The wait staff was extremely attentive and helpful. We ordered a couple bottles of wine (nice selection to choose from and reasonably priced!) and a couple Irish beers. The menu leaned towards Italian, but offered other fare, as well. The bread appetizer with the oil and garlic was fantastic! We all enjoyed our food very much, and wondered why we don't frequent more often! It was a bit of a wait for the food, but well worth it! Our adult children found the soap in the bathroom to be quite the novelty! Parking in the lot is quite limited, but there is plenty of free street parking. We will be back! read more

This was a fabulous food find on yelp. We loved dining on the patio on a lovely weekend day! The service was fantastic. The owner came and spoke with us sharing that they have been in business for 30 years. The waitstaff was very attentive and adhered to new cleanliness standards during this Covid crisis. I had crab cake Benedict and it was fantastic! It was paired with crispy potatoes and fresh cherries and watermelon. My mom had the breakfast special for a great value. Eggs can be ordered any way, tasty ciabatta bread, and perfectly seasoned potatoes. We will definitely be back~high recommend. It's just down from Bronson hospital. Was visiting kalamazoo and my date chose O'Duffy's for us to try since he's new to the area. We were excited and surprised to find this cute little bar in the middle of a gorgeous neighborhood. We expected your basic bar fare and were shocked to see a gourmet menu with house made pastas, lamb, and duck. They had great cocktails and appetizers. We tried the goat cheese fritter which came with the best fresh baked bread. The duck I ordered might be the best thing I've ever had. The meat was perfectly cooked, it was tender and meaty with fatty, crispy skin. The sweet potatoes and arugula sides paired with it perfectly. HIGHLY recommend. We spent a little under $100 for 3 drinks, an app, and 2 entrees. I would say nearly everything was fairly priced, my entree was only $26, though my dates nachos (with added chicken) was also $26 which felt a bit much but they were a large portion. Service was pretty good and everyone was nice and helpful! We hope to return to try their other options (though I don't know how I could avoid the duck)! read more

We showed up for our reservation 30 minutes early. We were directed to the bar for a drink to wait. No problem. At the time of our reservation, we were brought upstairs and told they could not guarantee we could get our dinner within 1.5 hours and encouraged to leave. Sadly, I brought guests from out of state to go to a symphony performance. We will not be back. You should have guaranteed your reservations before accepting walk ins. The food here never disappoints. We come often. This time I invited coworkers some of whom felt as if our service was not as friendly as they were with the other customers. "No smiles at our tables" they chimed. I know they were busy, and we are not the regular crowd, they felt as if because we were all minorities we were treated differently. One of them didn't care for her Cosmo it was too sour. My margaritas were really sour today too, I know that they squeez the lemons but it was not softer and was full of pulp. Tristan, our server, really made our anniversary dinner a little more special. This restaurant reminded us of the old London Grill in Plainwell. A little Irish pub tucked into the Vine street neighborhood with an Italian restaurant tucked in its back pocket. My duck breast cut like butter and with the blueberry balsamic reduction sauce, sweet potato puree and arugula salad just made for a delicious bite. Karen had the Raos Lasagnas which was also really good. The crafted cocktails were fun and a little deadly when you add a bottle of our favorite wine, Rombauer Chardonnay. Great place for dinner any day, and for breakfast on the weekends! The Belgium waffle is excellent and there are frequently a range of variations of it to try. Great omelette. Good for a quiet meal or bringing the whole family. (Largest table seats six). The dinner menu changes frequently, but there is always a lasagna, a tomato based and vodka sauce linguini, and a veggie burger. Small pizzas are also on the menu. read more

We had an excellent experience here from beginning to end! We arrive just as the patio was opening for seating. It was really nice sitting outside, lots of umbrellas and trees for shade. The restaurant itself is super cute! I wouldn't have mind dining inside or outside. The service was quick and friendly. The dishes were delicious and quite large. The cost of the meal was what it should be. The chef doesn't like to do substitution, so be ready for that :) We all loved our meals- finished every bite! Cocktails were also perfect. They were pretty strong too, so you won't want to order too many. The mixers are made in house and you could tell- it added a lot of freshness to the drink! We generally come here after deciding we don't want to wait 40 minutes at Crow's Nest and end up smacking our heads and saying why didn't we just come here first!!! Elegant, simple and fresh! I've been here numerous times and feel compelled to write about my experience today. I ordered the classic Eggs Benedict. The capicola ham is to die for! The Hollandaise is homemade without adding cream. My eggs were perfectly poached, indicative of the fresh! Potatoes we're slightly seasoned and not over done. They served this with fresh fruits and it was a nice balance to the ham. We also ordered the waffle special and had them done malted. So tasty they didn't need syrup or butter. As we were paying our bill we noticed a statement that if we liked the place to yelp it and if we did not to contact the owner! Obviously Jamie cares about his business to put in his email address. We will make this our first choice from now on! There are always vegetarian options and the kitchen is willing to help those with dietary restrictions. It was nearly an hour before the waitress came to the table, and the entree's for the three of us came out at different times. I've eaten here a few times now and each time the food has been excellent. I ordered the Veracruz Chicken Tacos for dinner and had the Peanut Butter Pie for dessert. The chicken tacos had a few unique flavors that really worked well together with the Jalapeño rice and ranch style beans. The tortillas are seared on a cast iron skillet and were really good as well. Now for the Peanut Butter Pie. I've had many Peanut Butter Pie's in my day and this is at the very top of the list. You NEED to try it - you won't be disappointed! Cosmo's Cucina is one of my favorite hidden gems in Kalamazoo. It's located in a residential area just west of downtown Kalamazoo on Vine St. A lot of thought is put into the various dishes, and the menu is constantly updated with new creations. The ambiance is incredibly relaxing with its subdued lighting, creative use of Christmas lights, and brick and wood construction. The wait-staff is attentive and friendly, and makes excellent recommendations. Last Halloween they had a special menu, and I ordered something called a 'Devil Burger'. It was absolutely delicious, and the presentation was what took the cake. It had olive 'eyes', Thai pepper 'horns', and a roasted red pepper 'tongue'. Brilliant. Yesterday I had an ancho and black pepper-crusted pork tenderloin that was cooked to perfection. It was served with curried potatoes that I couldn't get enough of. It was part of the 'beer pairing' menu, which is one of their ever-updated special menus. It was served with an Irish Red beer that complemented the pork and spiced potatoes perfectly. One thing I always order is the bread appetizer with the Brie and fruit plate option. It's served with cherries cooked in a balsamic vinegar reduction. Definitely worth the extra cost. When I want to impress company visiting the Kalamazoo area, Cosmo's Cucina is one of my top choices. read more

Thus far, I've only been to Cosmo's Cucina once for a group breakfast - but it was good enough that I know I'll be back again. The parking lot is quite small, so you'll likely end up parking on the street. Also, the restaurant is located upstairs above a bar, so I had to walk around the building to the backdoor to enter and then head up the stairs to meet my friends. They were able seat us at a nice, large table. The atmosphere is nice and warm. I ordered coffee to drink and the Breakfast Special, which came with 2 farm fresh eggs (scrambled), toast (wheat), and redskin potatoes with sausage. It was a good amount of food for the price and quite tasty. They were pretty busy the morning that we were there and our server seemed somewhat overwhelmed and was slow to get back over to our table - so the service did leave a lot to be desired on this first visit - but she was very sweet. Overall: 7 out of 10. I'll be back to try something different from the menu. :-) read more
