I was really excited to try this place and looking forward to the sweet sauce. I actually drove out of my way for it. I was let down. First off I will say, no complaints on the price or customer service. The woman was so friendly and personable it made me not want to leave a review since it's not a good one. She was a gem; the pizza: not so much. And judging by the reviews here, maybe it was just an off moment. The sauce wasn't so sweet as I wanted. But that's subjective. However, what I hated the most was my slices were soggy and cold. I mean so soggy I couldn't even eat my last slice. And cold it should not be, as I ate it in my car on the street because I live 35 mins away. I really wanted to love it here after my great customer service experience but unfortunately my experience with the pizza itself was not as great as everyone else's. If I ever happen to have it again (I go to Lewiston often), and have a better quality slice, I will update review but sadly it missed the mark for me. read more

I don't get to "Pisa Often." Which is a shame because I am leaning towards saying Italia is the most beautiful country on earth. But that would be cheesy and I might change my mind tomato morning. Then again, of crust, I may not. Someone in media told me Italia might become the official "world beauty capital" but I don't want to name my sauce. And I don't put salt on my Italian food btw, I put pepperonly. What to get: a slice of Pizza for around a dollar. Also if you're at a local Greek place, I recommend ordering your "Pita Open." But this place doesn't serve Open Pitas despite the name. It only serves one thing. And that is: alcohol to minors. Oh wait. That's the liquor store across the street. What I meant to say was: PIZZA. What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is more delicious than ANYTHING you will ever eat in Pisa. As we know, someone that drinks as much water as I do... Pisa lot. But we also have exceptionally clean systems which allow our taste buds to properly savour and enjoy the exquisite tastes such as that of the cheapest and most yummylicious Pizza you will ever try in your life. What I am trying to tell you is... THIS MIGHT WELL BE THE BEST TASTING PIZZA IN THE WORLD. It is completely different from the doughy likes of Imperial and Mattina's and Franco's (prob the best 3 in the Buffalo area). It is nothing like the crisp enormous NYC slice. It is nowhere near the deep dish made famous by Shy-town. It's something all unto itself. St. Louis claims to own the "square slice" but their version has NOTHING on this. It's AMAZING. Niagara Falls is now officially (I have decreed it so) the owner of the square slice, and this little gemtastic gem is the heart and soul of what NF Pizza is. Ask ANYONE from NF and the chances are they will tell you that if you only ever have one slice in your life, have one of these. Surely the hype can't be matched by the product? Yes it f***ing well is. Trust me. So a slice is $1.25 and it's small, but it's so yummy that you won't care how small it is. And if that's an issue, just get 2 or 3 or 7 or 27 or 69. The bad news about this place is all about availability and there are several issues. (a) They close ALL SUMMER LONG because it's too hot inside, yet they still pay their employees for the duration. (b) They are ONLY open on Thu-Fri-Sat-maybe Sun (can't remember), which means for three days a week even in snowy season, you are SOL. And I don't mean a bright star warming up the Milky Way in Spanish. (c) They run out of pizzas, or are all booked up, so if you want a full pie you should call WAY in advance to place the order... but slices so far, for me, have been easier to come by as a walk in. (d) I don't think you can even walk in and order a full pizza anymore. They do keep tons of slices ready to go and they are nice and hot, so that is a bonus. And I paid for one, and they gave me two. How lovely is that? I know it's not in a great area but WHO CARES. This type of area needs your support more than fancy burbs anyway, and nothing's going to happen to you from stopping by here. This is America. It's not like anyone carries guns or anything. So yes, this is one of the best slices in WNY, possibly even #1, and it is one of the best in the world. Drive very fast (don't get a ticket) to Viagra Falls immediately, and purchase one of these. Get a Viola's Steak and Cheese too. You don't have to thank me. I am so glad that I have a new reason to visit the Viagra Falls. I used to not like it because it's full of horny old men, hence the name. I've been to this place a few times but It's been a while since my last visit as every darn time I drive by it's closed. That's my biggest complaint, I never know when they are open. They have crappy hours and shut down every summer. Some people think that's cool and part of the appeal, I do not. Apparently they are open until June and then good luck trying to figure out when they reopen. Sept? Oct? At any rate, it's a royal pain, and even when they are open, it only seems to be Fri, Sat, Sun. I've tried calling them many times to see if they are open but the phone is never answered, or always busy--so frustrating. Today I actually found them open and grabbed a few cheese slices for $1.25 each. A 12 slice half tray is $14, wow a whole dollar of savings instead of buying them individually, generous huh? The slices were super sweet, like they poured massive amounts of sugar in the sauce and dough. The bottom of the slices were almost black (see one of my pics) because of being overcooked, making them very hard to bite into, and far too chewy/crunchy. Thanks, but no thanks--it's just not worth the hassle. I rather choose one of the other local places with normal operating hours, and better quality control. read more

2nd stop on the Falls pizza crawl and this is a place unchanged by time. The highlight was the pepperoni slice and the pepperoni are under the cheese at Pizza Oven - this was my favorite slice of the day. They are very friendly and accommodating here. Watching the way the other patrons were ordering and pointing at the exact slices they wanted was a lot of fun. Glad we got there when we did as they close for the summer at the end of June. read more

Okay, kids. The Pizza Oven in Lockport is the one with the sweet sauce. It is not the same owners. I believe it was for a while in the 1960's-1970's but the place has not been affiliated with the NF location in decades. To my taste, the NF location makes my favorite pizza in the world. I have been going there for 40+ years and it is best slightly warm or at room temperature, like they serve it. There is a hint of sweet in the dough, but nothing like Lockport's sweet sauce. (Sorry, not my thing) Also, You can also order an entire pie, but don't call in the last 2 hours, as they don't pick up. They sell out every day, and if you want their goodies, it is on their terms. LOL. The original owner (in his 90's) is still there early in the day, and that is when the pizza is at its best. They are open Fri, Sat, Sunday 11-7pm from late October to May. Simple, and worth the effort. I get a half tray every weekend. it's 'Old School Pizza', and there aren't many of those places left. Enjoy it while you can! If you are in Lockport, get a pie from Lock City Pizza by the golf course. Another old school pizzeria! Totally different than Pizza Oven, but their cherry pepper pie is amazing! read more

Having heard the nonstop rave reviews from LITERALLY everyone in Niagara Falls about this pizza I finally decided I should make the effort to try it. I say "make the effort to try it" because it certainly is a bit of a challenge to line the hours of this place up with your schedule. Friday, Saturday, Sunday 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM October to late June is their hours. The pizza is very good and holds a unique taste in and of itself. The crust is very thin and has a nice fluffy and chewy consistency, the sauce is very well seasoned and just a tiny bit sweet and the cheese well nothing special about the cheese honestly. The The best pizza in the world? I don't know about that claim but it is very tasty and worth making the effort to get your hands on a slice. No seating inside the shop so plan on takeout. read more

My home town, the beautiful (or formerly beautiful) Niagara Falls, New York is home to some epic pizzerias. In a previous review, I have lauded the praises of the Godfather of WNY Pizzerias: La Hacienda on Pine Avenue, and let us not forget the sadly deceased Trusello's Pizzeria (often imitated, yet never equalled) still spoken amongst natives in hushed, reverent tones. However, at long last I have recently discovered the third epic Niagara Falls Pizzeria completing the triumvirate...Pizza Oven on Niagara and 19th. This is the pizza my parents grew up on, yet because it is in such a crappy neighbourhood they decided not to share this delicacy with the next generation...DAMN U MAMA!! About a year ago my Uncle Louie (a pizza connoisseur if ever there was one) told me I have got to try this place when I was in the neighbourhood (it is not as crappy as it once was... of course its still not great), I tried to go to the Pizza Oven like 5 times, but every time I went it was closed. It turns out that they are only open Fridays through Sundays. If a restaurant in a crap neighbourhood can stay open for over 50 years operating only 3 days per week, that pizza has got to be good...and let me tell you it was. This is Niagara Falls pizza at its very best. The dough is perfect, nice crispy crust with a light dusting of excess flour, perfectly melted and stringy cheese covering smoky pepperoni and a sauce so subtle and light it could float (not a hint of tomato paste). This pizza has a je ne sais quoi quality which elevates it to mythical proportions. (See attached pic) They have square slices at the ready when you walk in, or you can order a whole pie. Their toppings are not extensive, but this is not a pizza that is defined by its toppings, rather by the gestalt of the final product. This is a pizza which has not been changed for over 50 years (and neither has the store for that matter), but that is exactly what makes it so damn good. I had heard about this pizza from quite a few people. But I typically don't travel that far for a slice. However this year "Janes Walk" in Niagara Falls started here. Great idea for a meeting place. This building is small and there is no seating. It's a cash and carry place. It's $1.25 a slice. Cheese or cheese and pepperoni. You can call ahead for a pie. Or come in and pick up what you what. While I was there there was lots of foot traffic but no real lines. I have heard there are lines at other times of the day. Since he's only open 3 days a week you have to get it while you can. If you are in the area this place is totally worth a visit. Just make sure to have cash (no credit), and check the hours. He's closed in the summer for a while too. Call before you go. read more

Stories sell. In this case, they sold me a few slices of pizza. If you haven't heard of Pizza Oven, it's a legendary WNY pizza spot. It has an air of enigma and mystery around it because it's only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday between October and June. Why do they close for the busiest tourist season of Niagara Falls? Why are the only open on the weekends with such strange hours? Is the pizza really that good? So many questions pique such an interest, so naturally when I was in the area showing an out-of-towner the legendary Niagara Falls on a -10 degree day...we had to swing by and grab a slice of pizza on the way home. We found the unassuming hole-in-the-wall on Niagara Street, pretty close to the Falls (and on the way if you're for instance going from the park to the mall as we were). There are no seats here and Darren is on point to say that everything looks like it's from the 60s. Just take a look at the cash register. Pizza is baked and brought behind the counter. Slices are $1.25 and are a small square size. You'll need at least 2-4 if you're hungry, but one slice is a nice snack. Each of us got one slice which we swiftly devoured in the car. Biting into the slice after a walk at the Falls was heavenly. The tomato sauce of the pizza is beyond belief. Sweet and pungent of fresh tomatoes as if I'm translated back to autumn when tomatoes are ripe and delicious again. The pepperoni is baked inside the cheese, which I was a huge fan of, but it makes it a little harder to tell which slices are cheese and which are pepperoni (my wife being a pascetarian). Pizza Oven gets a 5 for the story and strange hours alone. I've only had a slice, but I can attest that the tomato sauce is among the best red sauces I've ever had. Will it be the best pizza you've ever had? I doubt it. Expectations are just too high, but if you go in with an open mind and a love for the story and adventure, you'll enjoy it. read more

I was seeking a hot slice on a cold winters day following a hike through the falls. Reviews lead us here. Looks very unassuming, but upon entering in the middle of the afternoon there was a line of 4 people grabbing slices. Started getting nervous as fresh slices were going quickly. I've eaten pizza in New York City, Chicago, and even Italy--and Pizza Oven is my favorite pizza of all time! Seriously. The trays are cut in squares, and the slices are thin, gooey with cheese, and perfectly seasoned. This is the best pizza I've ever eaten! Very light with gobs of cheese and a sweet dough which makes the crust taste unbelievable. The only negative thing I'll say is that they don't serve chicken wings. Also the neighborhood where Pizza Oven is not good. It appears to be a very depressed and run down neighborhood with lots of broken down houses and unkept lawns. There's a corner store across the street with bars and chicken wire over the windows - not to customer friendly. I grew up on pizza oven. Now that I've moved away I try and get it any time I visit home, but it's only open certain times of the year. This is the only pizza place that I know of in the falls that puts the pepperoni under the cheese and definitely the only one I'd forgive for it. It's delicious. I consider this to be the best pizza in Western New York. It may be only open from Friday thru Sunday so you better get your order in as soon as possible since business is always booming. Be aware that they close every year for the summer and this year there last day of business is 30 June. So do not wait to to try the pizza or you will be waiting until they reopen. Love this place! The only downfall is the operating hours are crazy. They close for a couple months then reopen a few days a week. You cannot get mad though after tasting a piece of their pizza! Located in the armpit of the city, Pizza Oven is hands down the best pizza you will find...anywhere..... period. Every time I have had the honor of eating this pizza it has been simply amazing , but sometimes you will get a tray that is out of this world, pure pizza heaven. Don't let the myriad of downtrodden locals that traverse the corner at which this establishment resides, deter you from eating the most delicious pizza you will find in your entire life time. At 11 dollars, a tray of this pizza is a steal, just don't expect to dine in here. There is no indoor seating and its take out only, but its only appropriate. We tried the Pizza Oven based on all the great Yelp reviews. The reviews were 100% right! It's seriously the most delicious pizza I've ever had. It's easy to miss if you've never been there before, so keep your eyes open. When we pulled into the parking area, we could smell nothing but basil and fresh baked dough. Such a welcoming smell when you're hungry. Our pizza was ready when we arrived, which was almost 10 minutes earlier than they told us. Everyone was friendly, and it was a great experience from start to finish. We had about a 15 minute drive home, and the pizza was still hot when we got home. They close for the season in June, so we will have to go again before that happens. read more

I have to say, I have had pizza from almost every place in Niagara Falls and this place rates with in the #1 spot. The crust is not too thick, it is not too filling, just the right amount of everything on it. Some places put so much stuff on it; the topping falls off and is sloppy. The Pizza Oven has found just the right amount of topping to put on so that there is a very good balance. The establishment is not in the best part of town and it isn't a fancy restaurant. As a matter of fact I drove right by it when I went to pick my pizza up but that had nothing to do with the product they produce. read more

I grew up in Niagara Falls and this was always my favorite pizza. Unfortunately, it closes in the summer and since I only visit home in the summer, I havent had their pizza in quite a few years. I was visiting for Christmas this year and had their pizza every day that they were open (limited hours in winter). This pizza is really delicious. I just wonder why they dont stay open in summer? i am disgusted at the customer service and the people who answer the phones....i live in lockport and was told about trying the pizza so last week friday we decided to try it so we stopped in and ordered....they were not friendly and it seemed like forever waiting(bout 50 mins) why does it take so long....and when we got home the pizza was burnt on the bottom and hard as a rock....and when i called today to tell them bout i got told to call back and talk to the girl who handles it, so i called back she was rude and asked if i still had the pizza i said no my husband threw it out she i should have saved it....i thought she was joking than she told me i could have left it on my kitchen counter....i said you want me to leave a pizza sitting out for a week she said yes...i couldn't believe it....and she was very nasty i called back asked for the owner she said call back at 8pm and i said you close at 730, also she wouldnt give me her name, but she finally said sue(probably a lie)...i hope the owner see this and i definetly wont be back if sue?? is still working there.... read more
