Stopped at lunchtime for a sub. While waiting, I watched the pizza/sub "constructor" at work. I was absolutely taken aback noticing that he was using his BARE HANDS on All of the ingredients he was working with!!!!!! I told the "manager" who said that they recently had a health inspection and wasn't written up for no gloves!!! I got my money back and left. We happened to walk in when they had a fresh cheese pie coming out of the oven. They slices were excellent. Reminds me of Stromboli pizza in New York City's East Village. I love this place and have been going for years, they have the best deep dish Buffalo chicken pizza. You can get a slice or the whole pie. It's right by Buff state so its easy to get to. Prices are reasonable and comparable to other places. I can't really say of the other food is good because I usually just get the Buffalo chicken pizza, but I will try something else next time and update. read more

Checked out Joe's since it's a nearby pizza spot. Got the Pizza and 20 wings combo ($35.95). Didn't love the pizza as much as I would have liked, but I think it was just that the crust wasn't for me. Could have stood for more sauce on the pizza as well. I also ordered wings (Medium and Garlic Parm) which I did enjoy much more. I read the reviews pizzeria. I figured I'd give it a shot. First of all. Yes the pizza is huge. Jimmy looks really good. It has absolutely no taste to it whatsoever and it taste if you do get a taste it doesn't taste good the chicken wings oh my God, they give off an odor. I don't know what it was. I thought the food was spoiled but definitely not for me. This place was surprisingly very good. They have a variety of pizzas by the slice or whole. We had chicken wings, a Mexican beef patty, and a fish fry too. For the most part the prices were not bad. Of course the chicken wings were very expensive. You can't blame the restaurant for that. It is Biden's fault it is not the fanciest of places. One of my friends raved about Joe's pizza and practically comes here every chance she gets so I had to see for myself how good the pizza is in the restaurant. I remember ordering from here a few winters ago, and it was not that great but I'm willing to chalk it up to the travel time versus eating fresh out of the oven. I ordered a 16" half cheese and half beef pepperoni pie. I've never had beef pepperoni so this was interesting. There are plenty of booths and a long table in the center to accommodate large groups. It was warm in there with two ceiling fans running. It was definitely a different experience eating in than getting it delivered. I had the beef pepperoni while it was piping hot and it was so good! However, being born and raised in NYC I gotta say I know my NY style pizza and this was not it, especially after trying the plain cheese. The bottom of the pie has the familiar burnish look, the cheese was the right amount and oozing off the slice but the taste isn't quite the same, and the dough still a bit too thick - is it because I ordered a 16" and not the 18"? I'm not sure but the pizza I ate today did not have the usual floppy style of the NY style I know. So to summarize: try the beef pepperoni hot out of the oven in the restaurant it's good, but don't expect true NY style. Note: very oily compared to other pizza I've had and the bathroom was annoying: soap dispenser took forever to drop out soap and the sink is one of those you've to tap continuously not to mention only trickles of water come out so be warned. read more

Buffalo has it's own style of pizza. As a transplant I'm not in love with it. Joe's makes a very decent NYC style pizza. Big, flat, crispy/chewy tasty crust, tangy savory sauce, and lots of cheese. I've only had it delivered and I've always gone for a pepperoni and garlic or pepperoni and mushroom. Mushrooms are fresh. Pretty sure the garlic is that chopped stuff that comes out of a jar but beggars can't be choosers up here. If someone knows of a pizza place that puts actual cloves of garlic on a pizza let me know. As far as Buffalo is concerned this is the best pizza I've had here thus far. Stay away from their Caesar salad, it came with store bought croutons, grated parm (maybe) and Ken's dressing. Was also nice and toasty from riding on top of my pizza on the way here. When I order a salad anywhere that isn't a drive-through I expect at the least a homemade dressing. The pizza here is fantastic!!!! You all should try it!!!! It's NYC style pizza. Usually I always prefer Buffalo-style pizza but I was headed to a show at the Sportsmen's Tavern (across the street) and I enjoyed myself the last two times I was here. They have pre-made slices that they'll reheat for you. If you order anything else off the menu, they make it right then and there for you. I ordered a slice of pickle pizza. I like trying new (to me) things. It was a thin crunchy slice of cheese pizza with pickles on it. It was weird but delicious and it made me happy. I also had a slice of meat lovers. It was fantastic. It had chopped bacon and many other types of meats on top of a thin crunchy slice of cheese pizza. It was delicious, filling, and it made me full and happy. I had both slices with a Vanilla Coke. The staff is super friendly and kind. Their quick and efficient and their jobs. There is usually little to no wait. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely be stopping here!!! read more

I chose to get a simple salami sandwich from here. In my mind I'm thinking how can you mess this up. Well upon receiving this sandwich I have NEVER seen a deli meet look the way this did. Silly of me to even consider eating the sandwich after the way the "salami" looked but I was starving and I figured it was probably fine but took the meet off the sandwich just bc it looked gross. Well that was a terrible decision because I ended up waking up at three in the morning with food poisoning. Some doomsday Bible Thumpers run this place, they are followers of Jesus's Dad (no, not Jorge... Joseph!)... and they keep yelling out "the end is ny! the end is ny!" I told them, you're spelling "ny" wrong, but they ignored me and continued to yell it. In fact they do this so much, that locals have decided to name this place "Joe's ny pizza", for obvious reasons. Joe's NY Pizza is pretty fantastic, and it's also pretty popular. It's facing sideways, in a strip mall next to Wegmans on the south side of Amherst Street, just across from the infamously infamous Sportsmen's Tavern, where Sportsmen go to, well... do Tavernish activities and stuff. The slices are big, as are the crowds at lunch time. This seems to be a popular destination with cops, so if you are the kind of person who has been, shall we say, a bad boy or girl, then you might want to give this place a wide berth. Not a wide birth, which would just mean a lot of pain for you and then probably some stitches. One letter can make all the difference. I got a slice with pepperoni and sausage and I loved it. All the cops apparently loved their slices too. I've never seen more Buffalo cops in a shop that didn't serve donuts. Burn. That wasn't a suggestion that the pizza here is burned. It really isn't. So much amazing pizza in Buffalo, since Buffalo is one of the best Pizza cities on earth. This place isn't top ten, but it's definitely very good and worth a try. Nom nom nom. read more

This is a large place located in the Tops plaza on grant, by Amherst. Easy location for me as I pass by there often and visit Tops and the Dollar General next door as well. I came late one evening and found it well lit, always good. I got a cheese only slice and its a generous size, no complaints there. But it wasn't warm enough for me, even though I asked for it to be warmed a little longer than usual. It also wasn't as flavorful as I'd hoped. Eat at Joe's! No, not the crab shack chain, silly. It's Joe's Pizza and they serve delicious NY style pizza - they said they're the only ones in the area who do it right - New Yorkers are awesomely modest as I am finding out! Actually, the guys who work here are super friendly and happy to talk with you as you pick up your order. I think jovial is the correct word to describe them. Granted I did play the ignorant southerner who's never had NY pizza. I had them give me a lesson on the difference between NY style and Buffalo style pizza, the former being thin and crispy in a brick oven and the latter being doughy and cooked in a pan. So their pizza is cooked in a brick oven which I think is cool. Cool BUT Mister Pizza is still my favorite. Joe's is now my second favorite. My friend and I destroyed a large pepperoni and bacon pizza (my special) and even tried some their BBQ wings which were pretty good as well. If you haven't tried their pizza here, it's a must. Stopped in here for a quick slice and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the pizza was! I got a slice of cheese, and buffalo chicken pizza and I thoroughly enjoyed both. They've got lots of seating, and the staff were friendly. I think I paid about 6 dollars for both slices, not too bad and they were pretty tasty. Key for me was the flavor, good and saucy both and not too greasy, but with that more tart New York style sauce on the cheese, and a good mild spice on the Buffalo. Joe's pizza is pretty good. I don't have much to complain about, but I also wasn't wowed. The garlic knots are ok - the dough seemed a little overworked/ tough.. but they are still garlic knots. However, what I really like about Joe's is the chicken wings... In my family when you go from eating medium wings to hot wings it's a coming of age - like going from the kid's table to the grown up table on holidays... I am one of those people who keeps Frank's in my house and pours it on everything... so a lot of the time, I find myself judging chicken wings primarily on their heat. I am not a suicide kind of girl - I don't like the weird stuff restaurants put on their food to get to that level, but I like my hot wings to be hot. Joe's hot wings have SERIOUS heat. I was proud as I watched my parents and sister all go "wow" when they took their first bite (all of them being serious about the wings being hot as well). I mean, really the wings weren't even saucy, just hot. They must have let the sauce actually soak in or something, I don't know their secret and I don't care - I loved these wings. Good place. The guy who brought this place to Buffalo is from NYC so it's legit NYC style pizza. I go to NYC about twice a month and it's pretty much the exact same thing (thin crust & all) so the name of the place is true to its taste..... not common. I got the Buffalo Chicken pizza with blue cheese, just a slice. It was delicious, especially whatever seasoning they put on the chicken. Stayed for 3 hours chatting with a friend and asked for refills on my tap water 3X plus a to go box (I'm an obnoxious customer). They gladly assisted each time. Kind and quick service.
