Honestly, most have been underwhelming, with only a few exceptions. Mythical Pizza was a very welcome plot twist. We happened to drive by and pulled in on a whim. Even from the outside, the place has personality. Inside, we were greeted warmly by who I think was either the owner or manager. She explained how everything worked, gave great recommendations, and immediately made the place feel welcoming. The decor is quirky in the best way: Bigfoot, aliens, cryptids, paranormal touches, and a little gift shop. It sounds like it could be too much, but somehow it works. If a pizza place and a roadside folklore museum had a charming baby, this would be it. The menu is surprisingly broad, with pizzas, specialty crusts, pastas, salads, folded breads, strombolis, wings, desserts, and more. Since there were too many interesting pizzas to choose from, I ordered the "Flight of the Squonks," three 5 inch signature pizzas. We tried "The Alabama White Thang," "Attack of the 50' Meatball," and "Sprout Man and the Masters of the Pizzeria." All three were genuinely very good, creative without being weird for the sake of weird, and the crust was excellent. We also had barbecue wings. The wings themselves were juicy, meaty, and well cooked. The barbecue sauce was fine, though next time I'd probably ask for sauce on the side and try another flavor. The place was packed, which felt like a good sign, and the energy matched the food: fun, unpretentious, and better than expected. After a disappointing meal elsewhere the day before, where the price point really wasn't justified by the food, Mythical Pizza felt like a small-town restaurant win. Great vibe, warm service, creative menu, and very solid food. Definitely coming back.

From the second we walked in, it felt very welcoming and friendly. I've never seen so many wonderful pizza options on one menu. I wanted all of them! He had the Alfredo Parmesan wings and he said they were delicious. I chose a pepperoni roll (I hear it's a West Virginia thing) and it was very tasty with a boat load of cheese. I personally like a spicer marinara for dipping but it was still very good. The staff was super friendly and helpful finding me the right souvenir t shirt with the Mothman on it. Oh and we tried the tiramisu and boy howdy! It was Dee-LISH!!! Def worth a try.

We settled on pizza, then on this establishments. Me, being the ever persistent person I am, wanted to get us the best deal. I checked out their webpage and saw that they had a really good deal for this week. Focusing on their XL pizzas when you buy three. Different prices for plain cheese and one-topping pizzas. In all, we got a ton of food at a decent price, and a lot of leftovers to tide us over for a few days. When I tell you that we ordered a ton of food, we really did. We took advantage of the three XL cheese pizzas (mostly for the kids), the three one-topping pizzas (mostly pepperoni), and a specialty pizza (their white pizza). My one sister was wanting a salad and some dessert, so that was added on too. When we got our food, it definitely looked like way too much food for us, but we all dug in. I first tried the white pizza. White sauce, cheese, tomato, and what felt like a ton of garlic. This was delicious. I then had a piece of pepperoni, just as good. What makes this pizza so good is a combination of things. The first is the crust, by far the best crust I have ever had. Pair that with their sauce, I could just eat that. The toppings are fresh, pizzas are by far the best in Johnstown. I did feel a bit queasy when I tried to dive into my fourth piece of pizza, but that was my fault as I was eating too fast. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach this night. They were once located in a nondescript building off of Scalp, now they hold up shop in the old Meadows building. Definitely worth your time to stop in for a pie or two.

There is something different and special about an Italian restaurant in Western PA. It's just better. More delicious and more hospitable. Carmine's is the perfect example. As mentioned in other reviews, Carmine's smells amazing. It will be crowded, so either arrive early or be prepared to wait. It's worth it. Everything our party ordered was terrific--zucchini planks, cheesy bread (from Enrico's), polenta, eggplant parm, and even an outstanding version of a Pittsburgh steak salad with that famous Carmine's dressing. So good! Great portion size for the price (50% cheaper than Connecticut). I also agree with reviewers who consider the marinara to be a tad too sweet, but that's up to your personal taste. It's still delicious. Carmine made a personal appearance at our table and was super hospitable. We could not have enjoyed the experience any more than we did. We will be back to Carmine's every time we are in Latrobe.

Our aunt mentioned Carmine's Pizza & Pasta so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed. We later realized it was the day of the St. Patrick's Day parade so many people seemed to stop by afterwards. We noticed a lot of tables enjoying pizza but since we had just had pizza the day before, we decided to try some other dishes. We started with the Fried Cheese "Formaggio Fritto". The menu mentioned that it was made with aged provolone which is why we ordered it but it tasted more like mozzarella to us. Because of that, it wasn't quite what we expected. I ordered the Lump Crab Fettuccine with marinara sauce. The marinara was sweeter than I personally prefer and I didn't notice much crab flavor in the dish. My husband tried one of the polenta dishes since we don't often see polenta offered at Italian restaurants. We originally thought the polenta itself would be baked but it seemed that only the top was baked. We prefer polenta that's crispy on the outside so it wasn't exactly what we had in mind. The sauce on top was also on the sweeter side, though it paired better with the polenta. One thing we have to mention is the portion sizes. They were incredibly generous! My husband ended up getting about four meals out of his polenta dish. We also ordered tiramisu to go which was sweeter than we prefer but enjoyable with a nice espresso flavor. I almost feel bad writing this review because the staff were extremely nice and friendly. Overall, I think the flavors just didn't quite match our personal taste but we appreciated the great service and generous portions.
