I came here as part of a big group. First thing I noticed was the very eclectic, very busy decor... you won't be bored just looking all the various stuff on the walls. There was a clock with this somersaulting clown puppet thing that would go off every few minutes and startle us, but we laughed about it. It's kind of a weird service setup where you order pizza at the counter when you first come in, but then a waiter came to our table to take drink orders and later bring everything to us. Nonetheless, the service was good; everyone was friendly and they did a good job of keeping track of everyone's individual orders in a situation that could have been confusing with people arriving at different times. I got an individual white veggie pan pizza. It was okay. Very cheesy and the doneness was right for me (I like the dough a little softer), but could have used some seasoning, since without red sauce it was kind of bland. Overall it was enjoyable though. I've been going to pizza villa for 25 years on and off. The lights in there are as dark as ever. The thin crust is good. The sausage is better than others. We started with the fried mushrooms. They were very good, but the pack of ranch was extremely lame in my opinion. Pizza was good. Had the sausage, pepperoni and mushroom. I have to say that the service is consistently lackluster. None of them seem to want to be there. That's ashamed, because attitudes like that drive businesses into the ground. This place can be good again. You get a basket piled high with these little nuggets of love and a nice bowl of marinera to dip them into. Chefs kiss right there. The pizza gets ordered at the window when you walk in. Then is brought to the table when ready. You can order drinks at the table, which gets added to your ticket. They don't do pitchers anymore, but provide free refills. The pizza is always fantastic. It's cut into little squares, which makes it easy to eat about 12 pieces....or more. The cheese is nice and gooey and has that yummy twang showing it's good quality. The crust is thin and cracker like. Excellent every time. There's three floors of seating. The second floor has a little game room for the kiddos. The Flintstones egg drop is always a must for us. My partner went here as a kid and my nephews love all the things he loved - magical, dingy game room with rock hard candy and a clown that does flips. My doctor says I swallow a lot of aggression.... Along with a lot of pizzas. Not being to this place in many years, I was very happy. The cracker-like crust was impressive and they aren't shy with the cheese. I highly recommend ordering your pie well done. We grabbed a medium SMO and it was delicious. They had a sale on Bud Light so I was really happy! We had a group of twelve. Some of our party have had a tendency to be a bit rough on servers, and the young woman that had our table was terrific! Walked in after my daughters graduation on Sunday May 28th with a party of 11. We asked if they had room for us and the Very pleasant manager who's name I sadly can't remember said he would make it happen without hesitation when I asked if they had room for us. The waitress was wonderful and the manager did check in to make sure everything was going well. I though that was wonderful. The bacon ranch pizza was so good. Last time I was at this place I waited forever for my pizza. When I inquired about the wait, the waitress went up to the third level grabbed my pizza of a table if a huge party and brought it down to me. She couldn't understand why I was refusing it since it was my pizza and hadn't been touched by anyone in the huge party in the 15 or so minutes it sat on their table. Me and my wife went to this place last night for pizza. It was probably the worst pizza or one of the worst pizzas we've had ever. The sausage and the pizza didn't even taste like sausage. The only good thing I have to say about this place is the service, our waitress, and every waitress around us was very pleasant fast and courteous. The place look like a typical pizza place. It was busy but it's also the only place I've ever been to in my life where you have to pay in order before you sit down. Sort of like a cafeteria style, but not. There is also nobody to seat you you just go into the restaurant and sit wherever you want and then when a waitress sees you, she will take your receipt you got from your order and make sure your food order gets to your table. Luckily, we only waited about five minutes before she seen us sitting down and took our drink, water and our receipt. But by her own omission, she says that sometimes when they're busy, they don't see new people sitting down because they just sat down by themselves and it could take up to 15 minutes before she notices somebody. Not a very good way to run a business in the service industry. But then you'll get another bill from the waitress when you're at your table for the drinks you ordered so you literally have to pay twice. This place is really weird. I also joked with the waitress because she was really nice that should I tip you on the five dollar drink bill for the two sodas or should I tip you off of the pizza and appetizer bill that we paid at the front. After all, said and done if you're going here for pizza, you're going to be very disappointing it was not good and most of the people were eating pizza so they must not like pizza too much because some of the chain restaurants are better than this place. I went to college in DeKalb and have many fond memories. One is living in Cardinal Apartments across the street from Pizza Villa. Their pizza has been great for many many years. I used to walk across the street, order and eat cheese and (sometimes) sausage pizza, drink beer, and then play Ms. Pacman in the arcade room. It was small-town blissful simplicity at its best. We went to DeKalb last weekend to visit the Jonamac Orchard to get pumpkins and apples, walk around campus, get drunk at an empty Molly's (which was nice for a change), and order Pizza Villa to go delivered to the dumpy Travel Lodge. The Beer Nuggets. I MISS BEER NUGGETS! to those who don't know what Beer Nuggets are, they are tator tot sized fried pizza dough served in a bag accompanied by a large cup of pizza sauce. The only place I know of other than DeKalb to get Beer Nuggets is McCafferty's Saloon in Forest Park (formerly Smilin' Joe's, opened by NIU graduates). Beer Nuggets RULE! Pizza Villa's 'za isn't too bad either. Very thin with crispy-crispy crust and a great tangy sauce. Let's see, Inboden's Meat Market: fresh homemade sausage, awesome. A very family oriented restaurant with a great atmosphere and yummy pizza! I came in on a Saturday night around 6pm and there was no wait. The restaurant is huuuuge which is nice! Plus there's an arcade for kids downstairs. My boyfriend and I ordered 10 hot wings, breaded mushrooms and a 16" thin crust with tomatoes, spinach and pepperoni. Our total was $36. Not bad considering that pizza was big enough for 3-4 people. Wings were okay--mostly bready and the hot sauce was more vinegary than spicy. Breaded mushrooms...a fair amount for the price...they were perfect and yummy! Pizza? So yummy!!!! Crust was very crackery and not soggy at all from the sauce/toppings. It came out piping hot and just so delicious!!!! The pepperoni had a touch of spiciness (just a warning if you don't like this) and I really enjoyed the sauce--so fresh and tangy and well-developed. It would have been 5 stars if it weren't for their weird payment system. You order right when you go in. You pay. Then you go to your table and then order your beverages. (Cheap beer, btw!) Then your waitress will give you another check for your drinks. I wasn't planning on getting anything besides water, so I basically had to tip before I got seated (I also didn't have cash) and that was annoying because what if the service was poor?! Good thing the service was great! And I thoroughly enjoyed that our appetizers came super quick and there was adequate time between the appetizers and the pizza. Woo! We were a little disappointed that a $3 order of breadsticks got us just 3 -- definitely not enough -- so we got two orders, and it's a good thing we did. We got the thin crust cheese pizza and a thin crust vegetarian. The variety of toppings they had to choose from was nice, and the pizza itself was pretty good. It was a little on the greasy side, but not in a bad way. The sauce was my favorite part. It was really herby. The waitress then basically blackballed us the rest of the time we were there. A table was seated and ordered after us and they got their app and beverages before us. You order when you come in except for beverages. Then, when she was bringing our hot app she first gave empty glasses to another table and then 5 minutes later we got our app. Our waitress ignored our party . I can spend my $$$ somewhere else. Waitress had manager come up to see we moved tables and pointed it out. Broasted chicken was great. Pizza very greasy. They have a ramp access in the building. Ordered a pizza for delivery. Arrived 20 minutes late and not very hot. They say 40 minutes but may be longer depending on how busy they are. Most pizza places can tell you on line when to expect your pizza. The pizza really had a funky flavor. They include lots of ingredients, but do these ingredients taste good ? Didn't even taste like pizza to me due to lack of pizza sauce flavor. You can't mess up onions, mushrooms or green peppers so I have to conclude the cheese and sausage were the funky culprits. Some of the crust edges were crispy while some edges were wet and floppy. I have never thrown half a pizza out, but this had to go. Decided to try Pizza Villa. The beer nuggets were very tough and chewy, not light and crispy. We ordered the deep dish pizza it was basically thick tough crust with a tiny amount of cheese and a ton of sauce. We each ate one piece, had the rest boxed and threw it in the dumpster behind the restaurant when we left. We both were nauseous. If I am ever in town again I will skip Villa. While they do have the best Gluten Free crust in town, the atmosphere and customer service skills by the employees are sorely lacking. The first few times I ordered my pizza the pizza was all the way to the edge of the pan. The crust is pre-made and I understand that. However, food should be made consistently, just like any other food establishment. The last few times I have ordered, the crust is no longer to the edge of the pan. When I questioned this the first time, I was directed to a a manger and he nicely gave me $5 off my next pizza. However, it has been a continual problem now, and it doesn't seem to get fixed no matter how many times I call. I do not want to pay $13 for a pizza if I'm not getting an entire pizza, it's a solid inch all the way around of burnt crust. As far as the atmosphere, I stopped in to celebrate a birthday party for a friend and discovered the chairs are the most uncomfortable chairs ever made. I'm not by any means a size two, but I'm not extremely obese either. The chairs hurt me badly, and I could not wait to get out of there. I visit family in Dekalb 2 to 3 times a year and Pizza Villa is always on the agenda for one of our dinners. I find this pizza delicious and the service (eat in or delivery) is always good. The toppings are always well balanced and the crust is very good. Now this isn't the best pizza I ever had but it is consistently good and dependable. The pizza's great, but the highlight for me was the large sack of hot, fluffy nuggets of fried dough called Villa Nuggets, or "Beer nuggets" as the people on campus seem to call them, served with a flavorful red sauce on the side. When you open the heavy sack, you'll be surprised at the amount that they give you. I thought I was ordering a "side," but an order of these tasty nuggets would stuff 3 or 4 people. Because they're so plentiful and so dog-gone good, I only managed to eat 2 small squares of piping hot and gooey-good pizza. But I kept returning to the nuggets as if they'd run away unless I gave them 100% of my attention. The line was out the door on a Saturday night, which is an excellent sign for business. I have heard so much about this place that I took the family over to try it out. I wasn't a fan of ordering and paying right away and would prefer to sit down first and gather everyones orders. I have a large family with small children so standing there at a counter trying to narrow down what everyone is having made me feel rushed. Our server was nice and she brought out our food for us and then refills on the pitchers of pop. I didn't like having a second bill for the refills on pop but didn't know we would need more than 2 pitchers when I placed my order. The food was decent not great and not bad. I was confused with the set up and unsure of if the waitstaff were actually waiters or not. My boyfriend and I like to try out different places, and this place looked cozy so we wanted to try it out. We were confused immediately when walking in. The way they're set up there is not only confusing but also inconvenient. You order your food first, then get seated, and then have to order your drinks separately at the table. This may be convenient for large groups, but for a group of two it wasn't the most conventional way of going about things. After we ordered we were taken to our seat. The layout of the place was cute and very family friendly. My boyfriend put his change on the table (a dollar) after paying for our pizza and garlic bread. Our waitress came up and greeted us, and asked if that was her dollar. My boyfriend looked confused and said no it wasn't. She took our drink orders and left. We didn't think much of it until she came back with our drinks. She basically slammed our drinks on the table, looked at my boyfriend, and said she KNEW that was her tip, and that it was not nice to steal from a waitress. She stomped off without another word. Immediately we asked to see a manager about the incident. To think a waitress would flip out over a dollar (even though it really wasn't hers!) is certainly absurd and definitely not professional in any way. When the manager came up, he seemed very apologetic of the waitress's behavior. He assigned us a new waitress and gave us our drinks for free since we had already paid for our meal. The rest of the meal was extremely uncomfortable however. My boyfriend was still very angry with the waitress, and wasn't able to shake it off until well after the meal was over. The waitress that had been so rude was serving tables all around us which made it very awkward. Other tables looked at us as if we were the bad guys, as if the waitress had been talking smack to them behind our backs. I wouldn't doubt it. It should be noted that we did enjoy the pizza. We got the deep dish pepperoni and bacon pizza. It was very well made, and it's personally my favorite pizza in DeKalb.
