I have heard so much about this place that I took the family over to try it out. I wasn't a fan of ordering and paying right away and would prefer to sit down first and gather everyones orders. I have a large family with small children so standing there at a counter trying to narrow down what everyone is having made me feel rushed. Our server was nice and she brought out our food for us and then refills on the pitchers of pop. I didn't like having a second bill for the refills on pop but didn't know we would need more than 2 pitchers when I placed my order. The food was decent not great and not bad. I was confused with the set up and unsure of if the waitstaff were actually waiters or not. I did tip like they were waitstaff but with having to pay twice I wondered if it were more like Culvers where you don't tip the person bringing your food out. read more

My boyfriend and I like to try out different places, and this place looked cozy so we wanted to try it out. We were confused immediately when walking in. The way they're set up there is not only confusing but also inconvenient. You order your food first, then get seated, and then have to order your drinks separately at the table. This may be convenient for large groups, but for a group of two it wasn't the most conventional way of going about things. After we ordered we were taken to our seat. The layout of the place was cute and very family friendly. My boyfriend put his change on the table (a dollar) after paying for our pizza and garlic bread. Our waitress came up and greeted us, and asked if that was her dollar. My boyfriend looked confused and said no it wasn't. She took our drink orders and left. We didn't think much of it until she came back with our drinks. She basically slammed our drinks on the table, looked at my boyfriend, and said she KNEW that was her tip, and that it was not nice to steal from a waitress. She stomped off without another word. Immediately we asked to see a manager about the incident. To think a waitress would flip out over a dollar (even though it really wasn't hers!) is certainly absurd and definitely not professional in any way. When the manager came up, he seemed very apologetic of the waitress's behavior. He assigned us a new waitress and gave us our drinks for free since we had already paid for our meal. The rest of the meal was extremely uncomfortable however. My boyfriend was still very angry with the waitress, and wasn't able to shake it off until well after the meal was over. The waitress that had been so rude was serving tables all around us which made it very awkward. Other tables looked at us as if we were the bad guys, as if the waitress had been talking smack to them behind our backs. I wouldn't doubt it. It should be noted that we did enjoy the pizza. We got the deep dish pepperoni and bacon pizza. It was very well made, and it's personally my favorite pizza in DeKalb. However, the incident with the waitress had ruined my experience with the restaurant all together. My recommendation? Get this pizza and order it to go. read more

DeKalb is a college town, not without a number of decent options for pizza. So for a pizzeria to get my endorsement, it had better offer a unique experience. Unfortunately, I just don't see a whole lot of anything special going on at Pizza Villa. The pizza is overpriced and greasy. For some reason, they cut the pizza into squares, which makes the landlocked pieces a veritable puddle of grease. Another quirk about Pizza Villa is that you pay for the pizza ahead of time... but then you pay for any drinks you had *after* the meal. Why? Other than that, the service is average and the ambiance is... I'm going to say random. I don't know how else you'd describe a place whose decor is defined by gas station signs and some demonic mechanical clown who continually does back-flips. Last time I went there, I sat underneath the evil clown. I spent most of the meal paranoid that the thing would fall and kill me. And what's up with the bar that nobody is ever behind? I grew up on Pizza Villa pizza, and it has set the "bar" for me and every pizza experience thereafter. I think you need to grow up in the area and not be a college student with limited funds to appreciate the experience. Yes its pricier than most college pizza, but you can't compare the quality of ingredients. Thin crust, cut in squares (I always fight to get all 4 tiny corners), great sauce and ample toppings. We went this weekend with the fam to celebrate someones birthday. I had been away from PV 'za for probably 15 years..... and it was like a choir of angels singing upon the first bite. Went to dinner with friends. Our ravioli came to our table, but they were out of silverware. Pizza villa was out of silverware. Sent it back because it got cold before the silverware arrived. 20 minutes later our friends pizza arrived, and 10 minutes after that the dinner salads arrived. The waitress Gabriella was rude and so was manager C J Finn when we told them it was a problem. C J even said something to the fact he didnt care if we did not come back. No empathy or concern towards customer he only said they were trying to play catch up. read more

Having grown up closer to Chicago and working there, this is about the closest you can get to being downtown. Moving out here in 2006, one of the things we figured we be giving up was excellent pizza. We figured we would end up settling. Luckily we found two locations not to far from our home in Sycamore, Pizza Villa being the main one. They have an abundance of obviously fresh ingrediants, albeit missing one of the ones I have come to like in recent years (shrimp). A good selection of "special combinations" pizzas as well. Staff is friendly and accommodating. A large menu of other items include lasagna, ravioli, tortellini and an excellent chicken parmesan among other things. While they offer a good selection of beer, however this is most definitely a family atmosphere. The only downside is drinks, all drinks, are ordered and paid for separately and can be a bit confusing. A visit here for us always includes parmesan nuggets (they have different types). Had this at the urging of friends for the first time recently. It was alright. Definitely better than some other places in DeKalb area, definitely worse than others. We had cheese, pepperoni, and at one friend's urging: taco. It's greasy, it's cut into squares, the toppings are applied generously, and the thin-crust is a well done thin-crust. But it is otherwise just pretty standard pizza. The ingredients are not of exceptional quality. There's aren't a lot of gimmicks. It's not the cheapest or the most expensive. But if you're in the mood for what is essentially the local version of any other greasy thin-cut pizza, Pizza Villa totally delivers. I wouldn't turn my nose up at it, but at the same time it won't be my first choice. read more

The villa supreme was just okay, the barbecue chicken pizza was fabulous! The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is really cool! Definitely upper-echelon of pizza in DeKalb. Had the thin with bacon once, and it was very very very good! the cinnamon nuggets were awesome as well. Went a second time, got parmesannuggets and a pan pizza. Both were okay, nothing like the first time. This is an interesting place, no TVs at all! Its very close to the main campus, and the prices are higher than papa johns/pizza hut, but the quality is much higher. read more

You walk in at pay at the counter before you order. That's fine but then you pay again for drinks at the table. I don't understand why you don't pay for everything all at once. That was the most annoying and confusing part to me. Beer nuggets were amazing. The pizza was MEH. Bland, undercooked and the cheese wasn't melted from being undercooked. Pizza and beer, so what's not to like. It's a good place to go hang out, but here's what I think you should know: The family size pizza is huge, but it's not really the best pizza. Not too familiar with DeKalb or other pizza places in the area, so this may be one of the better options in town. The beer mugs are frosted....Yeah! Honestly I've always enjoyed the food here, but tonight I was extremely disappointed. I always order the bone in wings and my boyfriend always orders the boneless wings. Normally they come out looking around the same size as each other, but tonight the boneless wings were smaller than our Parmesan nuggets. I pointed it out to my waitress and asked that another batch be brought out cause it was clear that they wouldn't be filling whatsoever. They second batch came out and they were clearly bigger and had more in it. I asked to speak to a manager because I didn't feel like I should pay $6 for some iddy-biddy chicken nuggets. The manager came out and I explained to him and he said there was nothing he could do and we just happened to get a small order. The inconsistency was a huge let down. Amazingly as busy as they are all the time the deliveries are fast. The restaurant is clean the service is friendly and it's a great place to bring the family. Mediocre at best. $47 for food that they couldn't prepare as ordered. My husband ordered a 4 piece chicken dinner ( 2 thighs, 1 breast, and 1 wing). He received 2 legs & 2 thighs, not to mention what ever dredge they use to bread their chicken is just as bland and as tasteless as could be. Flour and a little salt? Yuck... now let get to their pizza.. the crust is some kind of funky basil infused pizza crust which is an awful pairing with a Hawaiian pizza. I ordered a small taco pizza with extra cheese... I get it and it's crust, meat, lettuce, tomato and fist full of cold cheese on top. Yuck. The barbecue sauce on the chicken pizza is the most twangy vinegar based dollar tree bullshit I have ever tasted. The place is stingy, you'll pay by increments of $1.50, $2.50, or $5.00 for non-refillable Soda, and you pay for your grool up front so that your stuck with whatever poor choice/poor quality garbage you're served. I went NIU 100 years ago... ok, so the late 90s and I remember one thing about this place...they had the cinnamon & sugar beer nuggets! I remember visiting one other time after I left school there, and I went again last night for a work event with the NIU Law School. Our event was held in a room in the basement, it's a cute little room for an event or party. I was thrilled to try their beer nuggets & pizza once again! I even saved this visit as my weekly "cheat" meal! Totally worth it! The parmesan beer nuggets & the cinnamon & sugar ones are awesome! Seriously, one could have an entire meal with these alone! So good! The pizza is a very thin crust, but VERY tasty! The service was good, and here's the best part (besides the beer nuggets) ... the price! The overall price for a large group for beer nuggets, pizza, wine, beer & pop was VERY affordable! I suggest having your next party/event here just for that. I was eyeballing the menu, and you can get a glass of their tasty sangria for $3.50, can't beat that! read more

What a terrible experience! I have a gluten allergy and I was so excited to find out a local dekalb pizza place had an option for me. This was by far the worst gluten free pizza I've ever had mainly because the crust was horrendous! An we've tried many different gf crusts. Trust me my expectations for gf crust aren't high. Plus, the Sauce was bland and the cheese was like plastic. Toppings weren't fresh at all. We ordered gf two pizzas and a salad for delivery and it cost over $30! The woman on the phone was so rude when I requested gf. Then when our food arrived there were croutons on the Italian salad which were not mentioned on the menu. Hey...not bad at all. I was out in the great northwestern part of Illinois, Dekalb for a convention. Stopped in here after I read some good reviews. Their marinara sauce is made from scratch and is soooo delicious. You can taste every ingredient in that sauce, and it is heavenly. As for the pizza, traditional Chicago style, great thin crust, fresh veggies, and good pick of sausage (pause). Me likey!! oh and I had the BEST SERVER EVER at this place. Went to Pizza Villa tonight. What an excellent place! The pizza was tasty. We also tried the nuggets which were to die for! The atmosphere was very fun and family friendly. There's lots of character - which probably reflects the long history of this place. While poking around, we noticed a game room with over a dozen arcades as well as a big sized room that can be reserved for private parties.
