Vegan Grandpa pie
Alyssa K.

Oh Pizzanada, how I love you so much. I come here all the time and it's hands down one of my favorite spots in Bloomfield. It's a dream for vegans!!! They have a full vegan menu and pretty much everything can be made vegan. It's a true pizzeria with slices ready to go, which makes it super convenient. The food is always fresh and the desserts are top tier (I've even seen the lady come in and restock the fridge herself). My favorites: the Grandpa slice, jalapeño cheesesteak, donut pull apart pepperoni pizza, and the cold cut sub. My daughter loves the mac and cheese empanada and I love the meatball empanada. There's seating inside, but I usually take it home and enjoy it with my family. The staff is the best; the sweet lady behind the counter always recognizes me and greets me with a smile. It just feels good walking in here. PS: I barely have any pics because I inhale the food too quickly, but I'll update this post soon. :) Thank you, Pizzanada, for coming to Bloomfield. You're loved and appreciated more than you know.

I was totally shocked how many vegan options they have at this pizza place and the vegan food was actually really good. I actually really enjoyed the pizza. We order plenty of the non-vegan menu and all the food was super good and delicious. The empanadas are definitely something to check out and they should not be miss they are homemade And they have so many different fillings.

Food was delicious! Only tried 1-2 vegan items but those were also delicious. Vegan menu is large and there's something on the menu for everyone. So many empanadas to choose from.

Chicken parm and cheesesteak empanada

We have been living in NJ since January. With all things, the transition has been interesting. Coming from NY, we are spoiled with the amount of pizza options we have. Based on our craving, we have specific pizza joints we frequent. We have pizza at least once a week but we have not had a decent slice since being here. As a matter of fact, every slice has been less than stellar in north jersey. I have had good pizza in jersey but it has always been in South jersey. I even tried a place that David Portnoy did his one bite challenge and I found it ok but not the type my wife and I enjoy. Pizzanada combines 2 things I really love, pizza and empanadas and do them both amazingly well. The empanadas are overstuffed and as a kicker, the name of the store is in the crust. If it was a bad empanadas, this could be tacky but it's an awesome empanada so they can do it. We had a chicken parm and a cheese steak. They even come with pickled onions and jalapeños to help cut the richness of the filling. Now, the pizza. The sauce is exactly the tangy sauce I love on my pizza. As you can see from the photo, they don't skimp on the toppings. My pie had mushrooms, olives, peppers, sausage and pepperoni. The cheese you could tell was high quality and the crust was amazing. Every bite had a little bit of all the ingredients. We will be having our weekly pizza from Pizzanada from this time forward. It's 20 minutes from my apartment but I am willing to drive for a good slice, i am glad I do not have to settle any more. They have vegans options as well, if that's your thing. I tried the vegan meatballs and was quite surprised on how good they were. Their sauce really makes everything better. If you haven't tried Pizzanada, you need to go and try it!

Vegan buffalo chicken pizza was delicious. So many vegan options. Will definitely be ordering again

Decent pizza place in the area! The place is cozy and great for a small gathering. The lady at the front, however busy the place is, is really sweet and is attentive. They have amazing pizza options and vegan ones too! I grabbed a few slices for my vegetarian friends and they thoroughly enjoyed the vegan ones. I loved my buffalo chicken slice and pepperoni. Clean, friendly and nice place to stop by for a quick bite.

Pizzanada is one of my favorite vegan spots in north jersey. I have been here many times for dine in, take out, and Uber eats. The food quality is very good and the options are endless. Very unique specials offered each week. My few favorites are the vegan tie dye pie, vegan Italian sub, and their delicious desserts. The vegan vodka sauce and pesto are some of the best I've ever had. Pizza sizes are standard and decent pricing for the pies! Their empanadas are on the expensive end, but they commonly have BOGO deals on ubereats for these. They also have Groupon deals from time to time which are great to feed your family. My only complaint is that I've noticed that they have been recently decreasing the portions/quality on some of their items like the vegan Italian sub. The Italian sandwich shown in other reviews is now half the size and served on a lower quality bread. This is really disappointing because this was one of my go-to items and it's not a cheap sandwich. The last few times I've ordered it they left off the cheese and like I said deceased the size. They also replaced one of the Italian hams with Tofurky (they may have run out but they should've let me know). I'm not sure if this is temporary or a permanent change but this happened twice so far so I'm hesitant to recommend you ordering this sandwich.

I was so excited to try their pizza! A few other people I work with agreed to try it with me. Not all mozzarella cheese is equal so I was curious of how the cheese was gonna be. We ordered a vegan eggplant pie. It was cold by the time it got to us and this isn't the best vegan mozzarella that I've had either. I don't recommend ordering their food for delivery. I'm sure it would have been better if I went there. It was a good pie, but plenty of room for improvement. One of my co-workers ordered brussel sprouts. They didn't send them. They sent French fries & didn't charge us. I guess they figured it would be easier to just send free french fries than to call. Unfortunately nobody at my job was happy with the food and we won't be ordering from them anymore. They make a decent pie and I really appreciate the vegan options.

My fiancée and I decided to go check the place out in person. It's a small place but very clean and well put together. You can order at the counter and then get table service. I am vegan and my fiancée is not. But they have two full menus for vegans and non vegans so it works out perfectly. We got garlic knots and vegan mozzarella sticks to start. I haven't had mozzarella sticks in ages and they were delicious!!! Had a nice cheese pull and everything. Then I had a vegan calzone with impossible meatballs and peppers. It was delicious but I had filled up so much on the garlic knots and mozzarella sticks that I had to pack most of it. The lady who was working the counter was so nice. It was a lovely experience. It's about 20 minutes from where we live but I would love to go back.

I've ordered from here before. First time the pizza was good. Second time it was tasteless and burnt. Such a disappointment that a pizza would be delivered this burnt and not remade. Thought I had found my new local spot. But obviously consistency isn't there.

Well folks, I've finally done it. I've finally found the third pizza joint that completes the unholy trinity of pizza (loyal readers will know that the other two are Ramsey's Sal's Cornerstore Pizza and East Rutherford's Master Pizza & Clams). The name, Pizzanada, I discovered after countless hours in the library studying languages and etymology (or entomology, I don't really know. Whatever isn't the bug one), is a clever portmanteau of the two main food items that Pizzanada serves: Pizza and Empanadas. Both are delicious. Try the Tie Dye Pie if you're ready to be dissatisfied with all future pizza you enjoy. The workers have always been kind and helpful, even when the place is busy like you wouldn't believe. Given how busy they are frequently (especially on Friday nights, I gather), there have been times I had to wait a little for my order. Not an issue, because the food is worth the wait. The thing that's quite impressive is that the menu is basically double the size of a traditional pizza joint's menu, as almost everything on the menu comes with a vegan alternative. Great options for plant-free Bloomfield-ites or those of us who are just guilted into eating less meat by our significant others. The vegan options are usually pretty consistent in price with the non-vegan options, which is nice. Cute storefront. I've never dined in but they have the space for it. I just like to eat pizza while I watch my stories, which I don't believe they can accommodate.

Where's the sauce!
Janet C.

I called ahead and asked for a chicken gyro with extra sauce. The gentleman was very nice and said he would hook it. The chef didn't get that message and I got a sandwich that was dry and nothing extra. Apparently, because I didn't pay for the extra sauce, I can't be comped a sandwich but they would give me a free drink, next time... I hate ordering in a rush. Prefer to be home so I can take stuff back ASAP. But I am at work and family has the car. Tsiziki sauce is a very specific flavor, so you can't add mayo and ketchup and make do! Order and open before you leave!

I gave vegan pizza a try. Not for me. I will suffer with my lactose intolerance and eat a regular slice. Taste doesn't come close.

Guy seemed overwhelmed and reluctantly took my order. I showed up 30 min later and no one had any record of my order. I recognized the guy's voice and told him he took my order. He was pissed and got into a shouting match with me with 3 other customers around. He eventually apologized and offered a free side of meatballs and spaghetti (don't order that btw, super underwhelming). 2nd time: Wife placed an order for a pie with half pepperoni on their website. Came back with the order and the pie had full toppings. Small nit but annoying. 3rd time: I called at 6pm on a Thursday. No one picked up. Opted to place order on their website and got the same item as last time. Showed up at and the same miserable guy asked for my name and order... and then said he didn't have any order. I told him I placed an order on the website... and he said "You should have called." with an awful (only a mother can love) grin. I showed him my email confirming 6:20pm pickup time and he said he had no order... before pulling a pie with my name on it. I asked if it had half pepperoni and it didn't. Full toppings AGAIN. Clearly, their website is not equipped to actually take half toppings orders. Pizza is OK but not worth the headache or poor service here.

We spotted Blue Steel which had good, modern curb appeal to our hungry tummies. It looks like downtown Bloomfield is having a moment with some new condos and nicer restaurants coming in. Thanks, gentrification!? Inside has a clubby, bar vibe and we were seated at a hightop near the bar. I love a good wedge salad. I prefer the classic but I appreciate BSP's variation that has tomato, cucumbers, crispy frizzled onions, feta cheese, homemade ranch dressing, and everything sprinkle seasoning. It was generously sized and refreshing. And there's nothing but good things to say about the Detroit-style ezzo pepperoni pie, except that i wish I had a bigger stomach to eat MORE. After the salad (shared), I was only able to manage one slice, but it was a happy slice. My first time trying Detroit-style and it didn't disappoint. PS: There's a tiny, very lumpy and bumpy parking lot in the back that is very tricky to maneuver back out of. If it hadn't been for an Uber driver who got briefly trapped back in there with me, I might still be there today

New Jersey is known for many things, but pizza is perhaps the largest source of debate. There is no…read moreshortage of pizza, as they have anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 pizza restaurants using their family recipe to make some of the best pizzas in America. As the third-largest producer of tomatoes in the entire country, this key pizza-making ingredient not only sets New Jersey's classic 'tomato pies' apart from any ordinary pizza. This 10,000-square-foot, two-story establishment with a neon-lit sign on Glenwood Ave in Bloomfield asks, "Just another pizzeria?" They also house a 20-seat speakeasy that's open Thursday through Saturday called the Rab.bit Hole that can be found upstairs behind a hidden entrance. Opened in 2020, Blue Steel Pizza Company is the answer and should become obvious after looking at the menu. A reservation was easily made via Resy. My partner and I were greeted at the host station and got a regular table in the 1st-floor dining room by the pizza oven in the middle. The vibe was modern and industrial. Patrons had to use their phone flashlights to read the menu as the lighting was pretty dim. They are known for their Detroit-style pizza--a pie baked in a rectangular, traditionally blue-steel pan, the kind once used by autoworkers. It's made with a blend of mozzarella cheese and traditional Wisconsin brick cheese that melts down the side of the pie, making for a burnt, gooey, cheesy crust. It's cold-fermented for three days and is closer to sourdough. It has real flavor and an airier texture. It's like a lighter version of a Sicilian with a buttery crust. As a starter, we decided on the Chopped Salad. For our main entrée, we opted for the Jersey Tomato Pizza Pie. Portions run big enough for sharing, and we downed them with the 1911 Cider. The pizza crust was light, airy, and crispy with the right amount of fresh ingredients, making the ensemble tastefully delicious. The staff was attentive, friendly, and accommodating, and our server was Adam. The price was comparable to the area. We had a wonderful experience and would recommend this place.

The first margherita pizza I ordered was delicious and looked exactly like the photos they advertise online -- fluffy wood-fired crust, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and overall high quality. That positive experience is the reason I ordered again. Tonight, however, I opened the box and received what looked more like a thin-crust cheese pizza with tiny pieces of what appeared to be spinach scattered on top instead of fresh basil. The crust was thin and flat, not the thick, airy wood-fired dough that is advertised on their website and delivery platforms. The fresh mozzarella was also replaced with grated cheese, which completely changed the pizza. When I called the restaurant, I was told they do "Tavern Thursdays," where the margherita pizza is made differently -- thin crust, grated cheese, and basil sprinkled on instead of the traditional version. My issue is not necessarily that they offer a different style on Thursdays -- it's that this was NOT clearly advertised anywhere on the website or ordering platform where I placed my order. I was instead told that the information is posted on Instagram. That is unacceptable. Customers should not have to check a restaurant's social media to find out that the item they're ordering is completely different from what is being advertised on the actual ordering platform. If the pizza is going to be fundamentally changed one day a week, that should be clearly stated on the website, menu, and delivery apps before checkout. Otherwise, it feels misleading and false advertising. The pizza I received looked nothing like the photos used to advertise the margherita pizza, and not at all like the one I previously received. Really disappointing experience, especially after such a great first order.
