I really enjoyed my meal at Piñones En Orlando. I've eaten from their truck in the past, and this was my first time in the restaurant. The lady at the register was patient with me as I stumbled through my broken Spanish. She didn't suggest switching to English, so I must have been speaking reasonably well. So I ordered the carne frita (fried pork) with a side of tostones. When I go to any Latin restaurant, I have to try the tostones. Ever since Rice & Beans closed I've been on the quest for some good tostones. Piñones' tostones (no rhyme intended) were decent, but not quite what I hoped for. The pictures looked beautiful so I wanted to give this place a try on our way back to Tampa. Unfortunately, I must've gone on the wrong day because my food was NOTHING like the pics. The fried chicken wasn't bad, it had flavor and the tostones were nice and crispy. We didn't care for the rest though. The arroz con gandules was the driest I have ever had! The carne frita/maditas de cerdo had NO seasoning. I was so shocked! They tasted like unseasoned pork and oil! I was so disappointed because I wanted those so bad. The alcapurria de carne was ok, but nothing I would crave or come back for. There was no ac and it was like 90 degrees outside. If I lived local I would've taken the food to go but unfortunately, I had to sit there and suffer to eat one of the sorriest excuses for puerto rican food I've had so far. It would be zero if it had a zero star. Today 8/24/2026 at 3:00pm. we were the only customers. As puertorricans we know how food tastes and we're excited with the churasco and mofongo which we order a medium cook and mofongo and gandufongo. what a disappointment in capital letters. Being that I was visiting Orlando the week of July 28 I was on the hut for authentic Puerto Rican food especially an alcapurria so I went to several places, and to my surprise I couldn't find one, but I did end up finding one in this food truck, we had to wait because the food truck was setting up so I ordered 2 to and a shrimp ceviche which this I do not recommend the second I tried it , it had a fishy smell and then a fishy taste that's a no for me it was not good a waste of my money as I threw it away, NOW the Alcaprrias were phenomenal and definitely recommend! Went in for food about 1:30 asked if there was a lunch menu and was told no. "on website they have it" The menu in the counter were old outdated with tape marking the change in prices. Should have walked out with the look of the place and menu, however, we decided to give them a chance . We ordered a soup and it was ok, the alcappuria we order were ok too but then we order baccaluitos that were to thin and over cooked because they were so thin. The worst part after a bowl of soup, two alcappuria, one Malta and a baccallitos with tip came to $40. So for food that was subpar it was overpriced . In my opinion not worth it. I came for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. I drove quite a while to get here. When I got here at 12 they weren't open , I waited another 15 min and still nothing. I got a bit annoyed and left to the gas station and to a store . I decided to go to another Puertorican spot ( which there's plenty in the area) before I tried to check on them again. Arrived at 12:45 ish and they were open. I asked and they said they opened later because of the rain. Is a small restaurant with a bright color and good music. I order a alcapurria, a conch empanadilla, a octopus cup and a mofongo with fried pork. To drink we took a piña colada (virgin). I must say the food was the saving grace of my rating. This was absolutely one of the BEST Puertorican food I've had in the area. The alcapurria was big and full of meat. The conch empanadilla was fresh and flavorful . The octopus salad was the best I've had in YEARS! Big chunks of octopus, super tender and barely no onions and peppers. The mofongo was soft and not dry, did not need any caldo or sauce. The food flavor. The can't not be call a Puerto Rican restaurant. They lack the flavor. And they definite can not be call Piñones. They don't even come close. As far as service they brought my food and the end the service. Not for me. My asopao de camarones tasted more like Lipton soup with shrimp. The Pinones en Orlando food truck is a special treat for me. The name is derived from the scenic Pinones Beach in Puerto Rico and just like the local restaurants and dives surrounding Pinones Beach, this food truck's claim to fame is their seafood selections and stuffed Mofongo (Mofongo Relleno). Everythings is FRESH and made to order. Basically, you can stuff Mofongo (mashed, fried plantains flecked with onion) with your choice of protein. Selections include: Shrimp (Camarones), Lobster (Langosta), King Crab, Pulpo (Octopus), Carrucho (Conch), Chicken (Pollo), Pork or Steak (Carne Frita). Once you choose your meat, you can select 1 of 3 sauces to drench the stuffed Mofongo in. Green Garlic sauce, Butter and savory Creole Sauce. For me, the Green Garlic and Butter sauces don't pull the whole meal together. I would definitely recommend the red Creole Sauce if you want to tantalize your taste buds and get your eyeballs rolling in their sockets. I usually get the Green Garlic on the side just in case I want to switch it up. The absolute best for me is the Shrimp stuffed Mofongo with Creole Sauce poured all over the top! Usually there's 5-6 PLUMP Shrimp and the salsa is fully flavored with perrrrfect seasoning. The dish looks like a volcano gushing with a sea of hot magma. No emergency evacuation needed because you're gonna want to dive right in! The aroma alone will make your head spin with delight. In addition to the stuffed Mofongo, I usually get a Vasito or side of Carne Frita. Ttheir Vasitos are basically plastic cups with your choice of seafood in butter sauce. I usually go with the crab since it's a perfect compliment to the Shrimp Mofongo. They also serve a seafood gumbo, but I find it lacks thickness and is too watery. One item I've been meaning to try is their Fried Snapper which comes with your choice of mofongo or tostones. I saw another customer order up one of these and it looked and smelled outstanding. In my opinion, Pinones en Orlando is serving up the most delectable mofongo dishes in town. I would come here more often if it weren't as pricey. But if you're a first timer, it's truly worth the flavors and freshness. Go ahead, reward yourself. If you live closer to the city, there's a 2nd Pinones en Orlando location on the corner of Curry Ford Rd and Conway Gardens Rd in the Marathon gas station parking lot: 3577 Curry Ford Rd, 32806. I pity the mofo that don't know about mofongo. As a native New Yorker whitey, I myself lived many decades in the dark without this glorious meal. But that veil has been lifted with my special trip to Piñones en Orlando- a long standing mofongo truck just outside of a gas station in the middle of Orlando proper. For those who do not know, mofongo is a glorious tower of mashed plantains that are either surrounded by or filled with various meats- from seafood to pork- and served along with as at this cart, a side of chimichurri. And boy howdy does this food truck do a great job- the food is fresh as hell, the portions are generous and the memories made will last you a lifetime of pining. It really doesn't get better out of a styrofoam box, people. PLUS, you can also order a bomb virgin piña colada or passion fruit juice to wash down all that superb food. This place is delicious and has excellent prices. I had the mofongo and red snapper. The mofongo was moist ... not dry not soggy not salty or under salted and had pieces of crunchy chicharrón which not all places use inside their mofongo and the red snapper was flavorful and crispy. My husband also enjoyed his mofongo and fried pork which was just the right amount of crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. My daughter enjoyed sharing the red snapper with me and a side of tostones with a piña colada. Passion fruit and lemonade juice was also delicious. I used to live in Conway where they were located previously, and I'm so glad they moved to their new location so close by on Colonial near the 417. We ordered two mofongo dishes, one with shrimp and one with fried pork. They were both delicious! The garlic sauce is very special. The passion fruit juice is definitely a nice complement. Going by the name and reviews I thought it was going to be good, but I was wrong. I had the garlic chicken and plantains (Pollo al ajillo y tostones) and it was nothing out of this world. They get a lot of customers but I'm sure none are repetitive customers. Since they had a lot of seafood I tried a cup of octopus salad which for $8 was very small and it was very tough not well made in lots of oil. Definitely not coming back. Also there needs to be a much clearer version of the menu. The pictures are hard to see in the photos posted on yelp and the menu is not clear on the website. They fell off, I've been going here when they had a red truck up on curry ford and Conway. Just went to the new location a d the Mofongo de camarones con al ajillo was garbage. The pollo Frito was good though and forget talking about the tostones (disgusting blandito), guess that's why it good to have family that can cook it right. This place is the only place I've given a review to on Yelp. They deserve all the good praise they can get. I only tried the mofongo which is what I imagine you should get coming here. The bad reviews didn't order this. The wait is a little long and price a little higher than most food trucks but that won't keep me from coming here again.
