I've been wanting to go to this theatre for a while and tonight I got my chance. Walking in brought me back to the 80s! Yeah, the carpets are old and need to be replaced, decor is old too but who cares! PJ Cinemas opened in 1973 and has stayed open for a reason! Its charming, those walls carry so many memories and history! People are smiling and happy to share what brings them to this theatre! The staff are so friendly, the tickets are little pieces of paper like back in the day and the prices are unheard of. Tickets are $10 for adults $7.50 for seniors. There are combo deals like the one that cost me $10.50 tonight for a small popcorn I couldn't even finish, small drink and candy!! What???? The theatres have seats you can choose when you walk in, no assigning seats here. You can choose to sit somewhere else if say a person with a big head chooses their seat in front of you. This has happened too often and I love I have options now. There are old fashioned seats that rock. For me, I dont need to recline like I'm watching the movie in my bed! I found my new theatre! No more paying $30-40 for a night out at the movies for me anymore! I wish more businesses could turn back the clock and make us feel like what times used to be like. We happened to come here one night mistakenly because I thought I was going to the coram theater which is also on 112 but much further south. My boys and I were pleasantly surprised and pleased with this theater. Everyone was super nice, and professional. Whole place is very clean, prices are extremely reasonable. They even have an elevator which I was so grateful for because I had recently blown my knee out and walking two flights of stairs to our theater would have ruined my night. The surrounding outside complex is also very nice and clean. There are a couple of restaurants and ice cream stores and a lovely outside seating area, which are always welcome on movie night. Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall, this cinema is like a blast from the past (complete with early millenium prices!) PJ Cinemas is in a word: quaint. Inside has framed photos and posters from a bygone era. Each theater can house maybe 100+ theatergoers in one showing. But for the price, it cannot be beat. A matinee showing (before 6) and a small popcorn ran me about $12 total. TOTAL! The small popcorn was even the size of my hand and not an obnoxiously large portion regular theaters dole out. Inside the theater is clean and the sound level was perfect imo. I will say, the seats were a bit of an issue for me. Everything is ground level so fingers crossed a person of tall heritage does not sit in front of you. In addition, if you're under 5'1, prepare to have your feet swinging a bit, and no table to rest your popcorn. But they are still comfy! No squeaks and no numb cheeks after a 2.5 hour movie. Overall, considering the surprisingly wide selection of movies they show, I would be down to visit this place again for a cozy movie night! read more

I really love this movie theater all jokes aside it's something about the nostalgic feel and the friendliness that it brings the Neighbourhood. The location is amazing. It's next to a bunch of restaurants in an ice cream shop in the plaza till indulgent. I love the snacks the people who work here and the pricing. Definitely a Hallmark in the community. read more

Not too long ago, when you would call up the theatre for showtimes, instead of hearing a robot voice you would be greeted by [a recording of] the owner himself reading the showtimes aloud and giving a little bit of commentary for some of them. An actual independent, family owned movie theatre like in the old days. As a younger kid I used to prefer Lowes over PJ Cinemas because Lowes had/has much bigger screens and a bigger selection of movies; but I now greatly appreciate the charms of this smaller, family owned movie theatre. But yes, the screens and some of the showrooms are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than a franchise theatre. For a big blockbuster, action film you may find yourself wishing you were in a Lowes size monster theatre- but it's not all that hindering for most other films. PJ Cinemas also differs from Lowes in that it is cleaner. Floors at Lowes are covered in the sticky remnants of each viewers $30+ worth of popcorn, candy and chicken finger sauce where as PJ Cinema's floors are pretty damn clean for a movie theatre. Also, unlike Lowes, the ticket and concession prices are fair, especially with the coupon you can get from their website. Much cheaper than Lowes. And the popcorn is MUCH better. [Though no chicken fingers, fries or cookie stand (does Lowes still have a cookie stand?)] They have the best popcorn and butter topping I have ever had. I will sometimes stop at PJ Cinemas just to buy a popcorn to take back for a home movie viewing. An old school, locally owned, clean movie theatre with nostalgic charm, fair prices and great popcorn. The only good thing about this place is the cheap tickets. Otherwise it's still relatively dated and while the chairs are nicer they still lack tables and no incline for each row means if someone is bigger and in front of you good luck seeing well. I am insanely upset and disappointed. My friends and I just tired to go watch a movie, but were denied because of their new rule that if you are 16 years of age or younger without ID proving that you are above 16, you are not allowed inside the theater. Mind you we were going to watch DESPICABLE ME 4. DESPICABLE ME 4. A PG MOVIE. We are all 16 years old and it's not our fault that we don't have an ID proving that. I'm very confused on what kind of ID you get at 16 years old. Then, if we did want to watch the movie without ID's, we would have to have a parent come in and watch it with us which is INSANE. This new rule that has been implanted is insanely ridiculous, and I am very dissatisfied with this entire situation. If you are a teenager don't even bother coming to this cinema because if you don't have ID or a parent with you, you will get kicked out‍‍ read more

I didn't think individual owned movie theaters exist anymore! So happy to have found this great place for new releases. As others have said before 6pm showtime are only $5.50 even on weekends. The seats were better than I had expected despite not being stadium seating, although the seats are all pretty much same level though so you might have move around a bit if there are tall people in front. Movie didn't come with trailer previews which I thought was great as it would show right on time but might be a minus for those like watching trailers :) The staff were friendly and worked quickly to clean up the place after movie finishes, I didn't see a single piece of trash littered around when I was here. Even the concession food prices are a fraction of what you would see at AMC/Regal. Lines do get a bit long though but they work rather efficiently. Also one minor complaint would be the cash registers are right by the entrance so often than not you would have to wait in line outside the door, certainly could be an issue on cold winter days... Restroom is quite small and while I was there one of the urinal stalls was out of order so could be a bit of wait right after movie ends. But given this is a small theater this is certainly not unexpected. Great location and plenty of parking. Honestly I'm surprised they can stay in business charging those prices while the big chains sometimes can go up to double or triple the price. Definitely 5 stars for their capability to show current movies at a very affordable price. read more

Ya know, I just don't go often enough, PJ Cinema ain't really in my hood so to speak but they've got a nice cheap price, great popcorn, and a good attitude. There isn't stadium seating, just a slight tilt like the older days, but the theater is nicer than you'd expect these days. Way cheaper than typical movie theaters, actually plays at the time it says it starts, and way less crowded

The best place to watch a movie in the area. This is a privately owned theater, a very different experience than going to the big box multiplex -- lots of charm and a few odd quirks (you'll probably wait in a long line to see anything on a Saturday night, for example). But I've never had a bad experience, and I appreciate the incredibly reasonable prices and the availability of good independent titles. Most movie distributors assume this part of LI doesn't want to see an art house film, but I know I can find most of the indies and Oscar-bait films I want here at PJ, right alongside the blockbusters and whatever Transformers sequel is currently playing. I don't live in the area anymore, but I still love coming here whenever I come back to town! read more

I recently attended a late showing at this theater with my mother. We were the last to leave the theater and I forgot my purse which included some valuables. When I asked for asisstance the next morning the manager accused me of attempting to steal a poster well out of reach and provided no substantial help while only mustering up the energy to say "we'll let you know if something turns up". He gave the number of the cleaning company which did not work and then quickly and curtly told me to leave as I was "making the staff stressed". I requested the owner's contact information and was provided no courtesy whatsoever. I have since filed a police report but the awful service I received from the staff will ensure nobody I know will ever go to their theater again. Value of the items aside, all my cards and my passport were there as well as keys to my home. This now puts me at a huge risk of identity theft or worse and at a time where we should be helping people this team was barely human. Zero compassion to the situation and even less willingness to help. I can only hope if they ever find themselves in a similar situation they dont encounter people like themselves to help. read more

It's Winter. So, we've been a little stir crazy. We normally spend a lot of time outdoors so our options are limited at the moment. We make it a priority to support local small businesses so we prefer PJ Cinemas to the larger chains. For the price, this place can't be beat. We pay $12 for 2 people during the week or $15 on the weekend, just look for the coupon in your local mailer and then hold on to it because they let you use it again and again. The staff is really nice and the theater is well maintained. The seats are a little tight, but nothing unforgivable. If you're up for snacks they are reasonably priced, no need to sneak anything in. lol I grew up coming here with the Girl Scouts so this place holds nostalgia for me. It still has the same feel so many years later, in a good way:) read more

*****5.50 MATINEES ON LONG ISLAND??? HALLELUJAH***** I asked about student pricing, just because, and the cashier said they can't go really lower than 5.50 (matinee pricing before 6pm, its $9 after). Tru dat. Felt kind of bad for asking. Not as fancy as AMC, no giant IMAX screens (not even really big screens), no 3D goggles, no O Sole Mio next door (but Uncle Giuseppe's is, so that's basically moot). And frankly, it's probably cleaner than AMC. And 4 bucks for the biggest size of popcorn (or 2.50 for a small) is way under market price. They don't have all the blockbusters, BUT they do typically run a couple indie movies, so there's a nice mix. Also not as many runtimes since there's not as many theatres as the big box chains, BUT at more "off times" the place is basically empty and you get the theatre to yourself. HEADS UP though: They start the movie promptly on the dot, so don't be late and expect 15 minutes of previews at the start time, since they come beforehand here. FINAL VERDICT: Cheap movies/concessions, clean and simple theatre, makes for great spot for catching a flick in PJ. Two thumbs up for PJ Cinemas! read more

I dedicate this, my 100th review, to the fine folks who own PJ Cinemas. They were responsible for most of my movie going experiences growing up. The guy who owns it also records his own movie times message. One such memorable message, recorded around the time that "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" was out went something like this "Ok, I don't have much time, the dinosaurs are chasing me! But here's the movie times..." In fact, the owner, whose name I do not know, but is a dark haired bespectacled man, is mostly the reason for my love for this theater. Here is my all time favorite PJ Cinemas "scene": After my mother has purchased our tickets to the Billy Crystal/Robin Williams comedy "Father's Day", she fumbles through her gigantic purse to put her change away and get out her coupon for the concession stand. There is an out-the-door line behind us. PJ Cinemas Guy: Madam, you're dilly-dallying. You just got OWNED, mom! Don't dilly-dally on his watch! He will embarrass the shit outta you! So, thank you PJ Cinemas, for being you, and staying you all these years. read more

I don't need recliners to watch a movie, I don't need 3D glasses and I definitely don't need a food vender in the actual theater room. All I need is cheap tickets and friendly service, which you definitely get here. Why pay up to $15 a ticket at Lowes or Island 16, where you can get coupons on PJ's website for $7.50. This is a bargain. Increased ticket prices made me rarely go to the theaters, but since I found PJ's I can finally see movies on the big screen. Only minus is the waiting line is outside, but you cant have everything you want. Frozen yogurt place and a great Greek restaurant next store makes this a great spot for a night read more

After a lovely dinner in Port Jeff, we went to PJ Cinemas to see the new Star Wars movie. While I'd much rather go to one of the fancy theatres with reclining seats, stadium seating, and reserved seats, we didn't plan far enough ahead. Those theatres were all sold out at least a day in advance. So we found this intimate theatre not far from where we dined. We bought our tickets in advance to make sure we wouldn't be shut out. Matinees cost $5.50, and showings after 6 pm are $9. We paid $10 each, $9 plus a $1 service charge for buying online. Totally worth it to guarantee admission. This is one of those independent theatres and it shows. The theatre is old and dated, but given the cheap prices, I'm perfectly fine with that. The concessions absolutely blew me away. Popcorn prices range from $2.25 for a small to $4 for a jumbo. Drinks range from $2.25 - $3. I bought Combo #3, a Small Popcorn, Small Drink, and a box of Candy. It was only $5.25 ($5.70 with tax)! That was one hell of a deal. The seats in the theatre are rather mediocre, and you need to be tall to see if there's a person seated in front of you. I had to move my head back and forth because the person in front of me kept squirming impacting my view. The bathrooms were clean as well. Overall, a solid experience at prices that are hard to find anywhere else! read more

Walking into PJ Cinemas is like walking into an episode of Stranger Things. It's a bit of a time warp but really awesome. If you're craving some cinematic nostalgia in an old school movie theater (but with excellent sound and picture) this is it! Expect flashbacks to a simpler time before local movie theaters were all gobbled up by corporate interests. Everything here is homespun. Even when you call the theater's main number, you get an 80s style pre-moviephone, pre-fandango voice-recording of the movie schedule for that week. How awesome is that? This hometown theater has no gimmicky stadium seating or over-engineered loungers; just old school slightly inclined movie theater seating. The seats are comfy and the fanciest thing about them is that they have cupholders. It's about watching movies here, not about selling an overpriced "experience." Prices at the concession stand seem to be stuck in the 80s/90s too! Combo #1 gets you plenty - a large popcorn, large soda AND a big candy box for only $8. I went these cinemas as a kid and even though I live in LA now, with the most technologically advanced and luxurious movie theaters in the country, PJ Cinemas remains my favorite because it has steered clear of corporate BS and remains the neighborhood theater where the good people go. Yes, PJ Cinemas is a little bit run down. No, it doesn't have stadium seating. And fine, it can be a little annoying that you have to get there ten or fifteen minutes early, because there'll be a long line on weekends. But the staff and owner are super nice. Here's an anecdote: walking in for a matinee one day, the credit card machine wasn't working. Rather than turn away people who didn't have cash, the owner just asked us to pay on our way out. When we got out of the movie, there was a long line of people exiting the theater waiting to pay. That's loyalty to a community institution, and it's well deserved. Oh, and the ticket prices are unbelievable--$5 for a matinee, $6.50 for any showing with a coupon you print out off the website--and the concessions are super cheap. See the same movie that you would at AMC Loews, and save $20? Hell. Yes. read more

Saw "The Theory of Everything" last night with family and friends.. not very many fellow patrons on a Wednesday evening, there was only one other person in the theater besides our group of 4.. so it was like a private showing! The theater's most popular day/nights are of course Fridays and Saturdays. I usually see a movie here once every couple of months with my family or friends. I will definitely be back! Great for kids, groups, families, date nights, or even solo! I delight in the fact that it is a smaller privately owned theater with good pricing, they show first run movies and other flicks on special occasions. They have coupons on their website, so you can almost always save a few dollars! The phone recording is hilarious!! I love that guy- I think he's the owner!!
