I'd like to share a disappointing experience from my visit on 4/15 at around 5:45 PM. After placing my order, the customer behind me received their drinks almost immediately. The barista then came into the lobby, closed the door, and smiled directly at me, which made me think she was returning to prepare my drinks. Instead, she picked up both tickets, looked at them, and threw them away without starting my order. She then began cleaning the machines and eventually went to the back, leaving me waiting for about 20 minutes with no update. When she returned, I asked for a refund since I needed to leave. Rather than processing it, she repeatedly insisted on making the drink, even after I clearly said I preferred a refund. She told me she would process my refund. Two days later the charge went through. The interaction felt confusing and poorly handled. I completed their survey, submitted a comment via their website, and sent them a Yelp message. None which were responded to. read more

My usual policy is that I don't order fish at a steak house and I don't order toast at the House of Pancakes. So why did I order a bagel at a place that clearly specializes in beignets? Well, the website said they were New York bagels(from my ancestral home, The Bronx), so I thought they might be exceptionally good. Nope. First the good--the decaf Cappuccino was exceptional. Good espresso base, nice foam. It couldn't have been better. Now, about the bagel. Not much variety; only plain or everything. They asked if I wanted it "warmed." I suspected that meant "in a microwave" so I said if it was fresh, I didn't need it warmed. When the bagel arrived, it was ice cold. Must have been kept in a fridge, which doesn't help the taste or texture of baked goods. Because of that, it did not seem particularly fresh. It was certainly not like the New York bagels of my childhood, unless you compare it to prepackaged commercial bagels (like Lenders). The staff was professional and helpful, and was glad to explain what was or wasn't available. Service was prompt. I'm sure I'll go back another time and try the beignets. read more

Stop by here after have lunch around the area. Walking in the shop looked very cute. They had plenty of sitting to sit down and enjoy a coffee. They also have a display of merchandise and coffee bags. We order our chai tea and the person in the front was nice. After serving us our tea and tasting it he made sure to ask if everything was good. I do admit it can use a bit more chai spice but it was overall good. Next time I will try their coffees. Looking at the display I couldn't resist getting some beignets. I was definitely come back just for those. It was soft, fluffy, warm and delicious. Just be aware that they make them to order so there will be a 5-10 min wait. read more

Finally made my way over to Pjs coffee ! They opened up a new spot right on the Berlin turnpike in newington ! Walking In nice clean area with few tables inside and a few tables outside with umbrellas which is perfect for nice coffee date ! I was surprised to see There was a line for at 4pm on a Sunday ( but that must be a good sign !) The staff was very nice and friendly at the register which was very refreshing to see ! I ordered the salted caramel latte with purple cold foam which was a barista special ( however it only came in large or XL size ) Which at first I was like that's going to be a lot ... but I ended up drinking the whole think !! It was amazing !! They also make beignets fresh to order so obviously I had to try them ! And yes they were fresh , fluffy and DELICIOUS ! ( PLEASE note there is no chocolate inside the beignet.. so you order a sauce on the side, you can choose from; chocolate, white Chocolate , caramel or strawberry sauce)! My husband got the mango iced tea .. which was equally very good ! Also to note our food/drinks came out pretty quickly which we loved ! And everything is to go , so don't expect to have any glasses for your coffee or plates for your pastries ! I discovered PJ's Coffee in Baton Rouge a few years ago, and it blows Starbucks out of the water! The coffee is always hot and fresh, and the salted caramel flavor is bold and delicious. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and makes you feel right at home. They never rush you-my friends and I spent over an hour here after we finished our coffees, and we were never rushed or asked to leave. In fact, we practically shut the coffeehouse down - right after we walked out, they started locking up and cleaning. I was thrilled to see that the Newington location was finally opened. When I'm back, this will definitely be one of my first stops. I would love it if they opened a location in downtown St. Petersburg. I'll become one of their regulars. read more

PJ's Coffee has become my mother's new favorite chain coffee shop since opening in Newington. We are part of their loyalty club--which is free to sign up. This is the first location in the area, an area that we frequent a lot whether we start their or end our day with a cup of coffee (they stay open late and close around 6pm/7pm). They are similar to Starbucks in terms of specialty drinks, daily fresh-brewed coffee options, baked goods, and breakfast and lunch sandwiches, but what makes them stand out are their beignets! They also sell bags of their coffee to bring home, with many varieties to find your perfect blend. The vibe of the cafe is open, bright, and the decor is a mix of modern and French Quarter style. There isn't too much seating in the cafe, and it fills up fast at peak times of the morning. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They are very welcoming, talkative, and we never feel rushed while ordering even if there is a long line. I personally love getting a black hot coffee. They have a few brews that rotate daily. I enjoyed their seasonal King Cake (flavors of cinnamon and vanilla) blend that they had for Mardi Gras. If I am in the mood for a little treat (latte), their signature Honey Oat Milk Latte is so good. During the holiday season, they had a Butter Rum Latte that my mother absolutely loved and looks forward to it returning this year. The beignets are great as well, but I haven't had a true beignet to compare. I can only compare to the beignets I had a Disneyland! Just remember to shake the bag so the beignets are evenly coated with powdered sugar. read more

Had to try this new coffee spot. Upon waking in, the parking lot of filled with classical and acoustic music, setting the scene for the cafe experience. There is a nice couched seating area with a few tables and booths. We tried the King Cake Velvet Ice which was an espresso-milk based frozen drink, blended with hints of vanilla and cinnamon. It reminded me of a chai, but with no tea flavoring. We also go the Caramel cold brew coffee with cold foam. The coffee was good, but next time I know to mix as all the flavoring was at the bottom and very sugary at the last sip. Couldn't pass up the beignets! They taste like fried dough sprinkled with confectioners sugar and were made fresh! They were hot and fluffy with the choice of caramel, chocolate or white chocolate. I opted in for chocolate. Wish the chocolate sauce was warm or heated a bit and not served cold. It would have made it that much better, but overall good. They offer various pastries, cakes, breakfast sandwiches and a few various club sandwiches, as well as bottled beverages, coffee beans and various merch. Went for the first time to PJs coffee a week back and figured it be a quick visit since it was early and during the week . But it wasnt too of a quick visit. I was there for than 10 min waiting for my coffee and beignets. I got to my appointment late. They are still working out kinks for their first week and moving slowly . But I know they'll speed things up as they become familiar with the process. The Peppermint Bark latte was very tasty and delicious! The Beignets come out freshly made with white powder sugar! It wasn't for me so I can't tell you how it tasted. But they do have a few other goodies there to choose from and sandwiches to Pick up in the refrigerated section. No GF options besides a couple nut bars . It's very nice inside. Bright with a few tables to sit in. Everyone was very friendly. They just need to move a little quicker! It'll get busier, people need to get to places. But waiting 15 min for coffee and beignets was a bit long. I understand it was the first week so moving forward hopefully it'll just be smooth sailing! PJ's is a New Orleans-inspired national coffee franchise and the Newington location, I'm told, is the first location in the Northeast. This one is owned by a team of local folks. Seemed like nice people. This was always either going to feel like (1) a place with cool New Orleans vibes, or (2) a coffee franchise with a bit of New Orleans thrown in. And it's number 2. There was some music playing to set the tone. They serve beignets. I maybe saw a reference to chicory. That was about it for New Orleans connections. Otherwise, it felt a bit like a Starbucks with different branding. I tried a small black cold brew made with Vienna Roast. Pretty good. I also tried a cafe au lait with dark roast. Decent. They also offered slushy coffee beverages and Red Bull infused juicy drinks. I felt like I had to get a small order of beignets. I'm from the Midwest and Northeast. So it's not like I'm a beignet Pro. But they seemed well executed. They arrived piping hot and covered in powdered sugar. Good luck cleaning that stuff up all day long. LOL. Somebody was recently asking for a beignet place. This may be it. I don't know another place currently open. There is some seating, but not a ton, and the tables that were there looked a bit cramped. Maybe better to remove one of the tables for the comfort of a smaller amount of people. Service-wise, PJ's needs some time to develop muscle memory, but they were nice. I do have some advice though. If you're the first PJ's in the Northeast, every one of your employees needs to be prepared to say what your two or three signature drinks are. I asked and they did not have an answer. Hopefully they see this and develop a game plan because they'll be asked again and again. And not having an answer makes your drinks seem less valuable. Four Stars, which partially takes into account that PJ's may be the only place in the general area to offer beignets. read more

Have had PJs on my list of local places to try and finally made it over for a mid morning treat. Love that it is a little farther back off the Berlin turnpike so not much traffic noice. Plenty of free parking as well. It was pretty busy on the day I went. There was plenty of indoor seating but the day I went there was one table open. There was also outdoor seating that would be great on warmer days. Despite it being busy my order was made quickly which I appreciated. Everyone at the counter was super friendly and helpful. Nice new business going through some obvious speed bumps, as all new businesses can expect. I went at an 'off' time and it was fairly busy, though service ran pretty smoothly in spite of a constant stream of customers. I originally gave four stars as the service was a bit slow - almost 10 minutes waiting for ONE coffee while customers behind me were being served - but again, they're brand new. So I'm cutting them some slack. If service is still slow in six months, I'll revise my review. PJ's is a comfy cafe featuring relaxing music and huge windows. Drinks are customizable with your choice of milk, etc. and the case was full of yummy looking treats like beignets and bagels. I tried the butter rum latte and would definitely recommend. It was just over five weeks ago when I was at PJ's in Louisiana. It was a few months ago when PJ's opened a location in Newington, just under a half hour away from my home. This PJ's is located on the Berlin Turnpike, with several new businesses in full swing and a few others on the way. I appreciate the clean and inviting space of this PJ's, the large windows and the comfy seating options, make you want to stay awhile. They have all types of coffee options. I went with the Butter Rum Latte. I also got a serving of beignets. For a small additional fee you can get a dipping sauce for your beignets. The coffee was ready first. At this PJ's they only offer paper cups, these aren't my favorite, but it's what's inside the cup that matters. This was so delicious, the Butter Rum Latte was caramely, creamy, strong and tasty. The beignets arrived in a bag of three. It would have been nice if a plate was provided. These are super messy. They were very good, warm and flaky on the outside, soft and melty on the inside. But the sugggaarrr, let's just say if you think you're going to leave discretely, that's not happening, the sugar will be your evidence. The chocolate dipping sauce was an additional layer of sweet (mess) I couldn't resist. It was a very pleasant experience at PJ's Coffee. I'm looking forward to returning soon. read more

Let me say that, I am a native Noo Yawkuh, Queens, to be precise. When the coupons arrived in the mail to this establishment, there was "New York Style Bagels" appearing in the advertising. Realizing, that there are bad bagels, even in NYC, I realized that there was a lot of bagel wiggle room. These bagels had none of the shiny crust, or dense chew of a NY bagel. I asked for mine to be toasted, I believe the microwave was used instead. So why 3 stars, instead of one? Their coffee was awesome, my latte was smooth and flavorful. They had other pastries available, beignets, and others that looked good. Look, I know they are out of New Orleans, but having a "New" in your name doesn't make you part of the bagel club with NYC, San Francisco, or even Montreal. Stick to what you're good at: Beignets and coffee. Try not to stick your nose, etcetera, into bagels. read more

I ordered beignets and coffee. The beignets came out before the coffee because a new container of coffee had to be made. My coffee (12oz black) was fantastic. The outside of the beignets were very well cooked, but the inside was not. It tasted a little doughy and this made the beignets a little heavy. My guess is that the oil in which they were cooked was too hot. The woman at the cash register was very nice. Boy I was very wrong, especially since I first had beignets in New Orleans. What I received was very overdone and extremely greasy. I couldn't eat 1.
