This place was incredibly beautiful. Do not get me wrong, but my sister and I did not have a good experience with the coffee we had. We both got an iced coffee with oat milk. It was actually disgusting. Upon tasting it, it did not taste like oat milk we asked and we got a little pushback and was told that it was oat milk. Fist time coming here, our #1 stop on the Hartford Coffee Crawl We tried the Chorizo, egg and cheese on a roll with a chocolate chip muffin paired with a chocolate covered strawberry iced latte. Everything came out quick and tasted great! The sandwich (chorizo) has just a little kick to it and paired nice with my strawberry chocolate iced latte There is seating, but it's fairly small. A quiet and quaint little spot with a chess board and some cool art work. Spanish latte and black coffee were delicious. I don't think I've had a Spanish latte that creamy! My mom is also picky with black coffee and really loved theirs. I just wish they had some seating indoors, and that parking was easier outside, and that their loyalty program was digital versus an old-school punch card. I've been going here for a while and recently went in for one of the best specials I've seen to date. I got Gma's chocolate chip pancakes drink and it is such a good cup of coffee!! Pretty much everything I love all rolled into one cup: mocha, maple syrup, milk, espresso, cinnamon and cocoa powder. I hope it can stay as a regular drink, but all the drinks I've had there have been really good so you can't go wrong with what you get. The place inside is a little small but they recently made renovations so they have more seating and a bathroom downstairs, and as pictured on good days you can sit outside too. The baristas are very nice, and make sure to pick up a punch card because every 10 cups gets you a free coffee! read more

Stopped by here this morning for some coffee and breakfast before exploring Hartford CT. I got an iced maple miso latte and my partner got a drip coffee. For food we got the BEC and the salmon bagel. Food and coffee were both wonderful. Service was ok, they could have been more helpful. Orders are set out at the end of the counter and no one called out my name. After it had set there for a few minutes I went up to ask if it was my food and they replied yes. Seems there could me a more efficient way to announce orders when ready. Nevertheless, wonderful place and wonderful coffee/food. Would recommend to anyone looking for some yummy coffee with breakfast! read more

I went fairly recently and meant to write a review. It has great reviews so made me want to try it. The menu was really yummy sounding with specialty lattes and all, I opted for the Dubai chocolate latte, and while it sounded great the flavor just didn't deliver. There was nothing to it. Like diluted chocolate milk. Maybe it would have been better warm. My boyfriend got an iced matcha latte and it was just okay. The main level is tiny and cramped, nowhere I'd want to hang and there is a rather large downstairs area but def gives boring basement vibes. Story and Soil is a tiny coffee shop on Capitol Avenue in Hartford. It's tiny, but it has a lot of character. It's green exterior will catch your eye. The inside is tight, with one long table, and three bar stools by the window. They managed to decorate this space so tastefully without it feeling costropbobic. They have plants by the window, and some merchandise on sale. They also sell Giv coffee beans, that's what they use to make the coffee. I got a latte and sat with it by the window. This was delicious, you could taste the richness of the Giv beans. It was creamy, and delightful. I've been to this location of Story and Soil before, they have always made a solid coffee. I had to come here on my short visit to Hartford and I am so happy I did. The inside is VERY small, but cozy in a way. They have fresh pastries, hot sandwiches, burritos and of course coffee/tea. I had the s'mores latte and a mushroom sandwich. I really enjoyed this pleasant meal because I don't typically have breakfast so this portion was perfect for me. The sandwich was hot which was nice because it was so cold outside and it also tasted really good. The s'mores latte has a slight kick to it because of the cayenne drizzled into the drink. When Yelp CT Community Manager Alex PT asked me to help highlight businesses for Latinx Heritage Month, I didn't need to do any research. There are so many great businesses that are already part of my life, or on my bucket list. Two of them are on the 300 Block of Capitol Ave in Hartford. So I hopped in my car this morning. If you look at my review below, you'll see I became a big fan of Latinx-owned Story and Soil earlier this year. I love their black iced coffee. And if you think it's going to be a hassle to park downtown, think again. Every single time I've tried to park, there are numerous open parking spots on the block and there is a nearby pay by card kiosk. For example, today, I left my house in Newington at 11:57. At 12:12, I was walking on Capitol Avenue with iced coffee in hand. No joke! Check out Story and Soil for great coffee. They also have food, but I can't speak to that side of the business. Story and Soil is a whole vibe. In addition to the standard coffee shop menu, they have what seems like seasonal specials and boy oh boy they are good! I recently tried their s'mores latte with oat milk-- truly one of a kind and it hit the spot. It comes topped with graham cracker crumbs and a vegan marshmallow that the barista used a chef's flame torch on (very cool). Seating is very limited but if you come in the middle of the day on a weekday, you'll easily find a spot. Surprisingly parking is fine, there were plenty of spots on the street and around the corner. On recommendation by Jason P, I decided to make the dangerous trek from my location into hartford to give this place a fair shake. I don't usually go into the city, since the roads are all topsy-turvy and traffic is kind of a pain. But for a good cup of joe, was willing to make the risk. Place is this little small shop flanked by other restaurants and venues. The place is quaint, with a limited menu which was mostly blocked out by the time I got there for lunch. Was able to find parking at the closed dunkin and made my walk there. Didn't have much left in terms of food, so decided to get their #2 breakfast burrito and a black iced coffee. Noted their coffee beans, they actually use the same beans as a dessert place that I go to on the occasion. Took some pics, dodged the traffic back to my place, took some more pics, then dug into my lunch. Overall, pretty good! The burrito was fairly girthy for a breakfast burrito. The potato and chorizo were highlights. properly crisped potato and savory spicy bites of the chorizo gave the burrito most of its flavor. The cheese and egg were there, but bit players in this particular meal. Pretty tasty, and not bad price for what you get The coffee was fruity and slightly acidic, similar to the coffee I had at the dessert place. They didn't offer a pour-over, but did have an espresso machine where they ground and prepared on demand. Price was okay for the location, and the meal was substantial and filling. Since I do have places closer to me that offer the same beans and offer pour-over, I have other options available that are more appealing. But if you're in Hartford and you want a good coffee, this is a good spot to get some! read more

Story and soil has plenty of street parking available and is easy to spot with the green accents against the brick building. Locally sourced chorizo: well balanced in spice and flavor, melty cheddar, fried eggs fresh cracked on the grill top, and a red aioli all packed between a soft and toasted english muffin. Such a savory and filling way to start my morning! For my drink, I ordered an iced latte using locally roasted beans from Giv Coffee. Full-bodied with nuttiness and a hint of floral notes. I LOVED my latte. It hit the spot. I'm a baby when it comes to hot temps and this was hot enough to but not so hot you couldn't enjoy the flavors because your tongue got burnt. I also got an egg sandwich. The one with chorizo. Blanking on the name. It was one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had. The space is a little small. Next time I would probably just get my stuff to go. But I liked the atmosphere.
