We've been going to this vet for over 20 years. Before Dr. Evan retired Dr. Debbie took over almost all vet duties and she has been the one that has treated and known our dogs since puppies and they are 16 now. We didn't stay at this Vet because of the location or anything like that. We stayed there for Doctor Debbie. Since Dr. Evan passed away his wife has been the one to take over the business. Long story short, Dr. Debbie opened up her own veterinary clinic down the street on Yorba linda Boulevard and richfield It's called "paws we love." She wasn't able to tell her old patients before she left because she didn't want any bad blood. They are not informing their clients that Dr. Debbie moved so when you schedule an appointment just know it's not gonna be with Dr. Debbie. read more

We have been going to Placentia Veterinary for over 45 years - since I was a child!!! Even after I grew up, got married, and moved out to Yorba Linda, I chose to stay with PV/Dr. Evans because he was so WONDERFUL, dedicated, compassionate, and full of wisdom when it came to caring for our MANY pets over the years! He never made you feel like he was in this profession for the money! He truly cared about ALL animals and would often recommend/offer easy home remedies that cost pennies compared to expensive exams and medications - if he felt they would achieve the same results - and they often DID do the trick! Unfortunately, since his passing, this is no longer the "caring clinic" it once was; and sadly, his wife is running it into the ground - refusing to let go and follow the professional path and intentions Dr. Evans had not only "shared with us," but had agreed to with the veterinarian he was mentoring and preparing to take over for him at his practice (Dr. Debbie). There is so much we could say re: our 45+ years' worth of experiences, as well as all the changes this clinic has endured since Dr. Evans passed away suddenly (*and no one thought to email/inform his clientele with the devastating news), but the most recent activity/decision made to SUDDENLY CLOSE THE CLINIC COMPLETELY FOR MORE THAN A MONTH to remodel/renovate WITHOUT INFORMING ITS PATIENTS/CLIENTELE AGAIN....is beyond unprofessional, IT'S ABSOLUTELY NEGLIGENT!!! That said, we recently brought one of our sick beloved family pets into see Dr. Debbie, who requested bloodwork/X-rays, etc., and purchased medication to trial...with the hopes we could get her back on track and healthy again- Well, not only did we NOT get any definitive answers, but she has gotten worse and now we are left with expensive bills, and NO diagnosis, and now trying to find another veterinarian who can hopefully pick up where Dr. Debbie left off and help our sweet girl before it's too late! In the meantime, we are more than a little frustrated and upset with Placentia Veterinary, but also feeling hopeless and helpless! I've waited a full year to write this to avoid emotions. Dr. Evan's was top notch, and I know a lot of us were sad when he retired but also happy for him. He was always caring and thorough. Sent sympathy cards as our dogs passes through the years. They're family members, right?. The new owners barely examined my older Maltipoo. Took X-rays and sent us home with meds to clear her lungs and a $600 bill. She passed the next day. I forgot the follow-up appointment the following week. They called to let me know I missed an appointment and did I want to reschedule...not how's you pup? Is everything ok? No, they wanted the appointment revenue. I let them know she passes not 24 hours after our previous visit. Literally, a short, OK and that was it. No sorry, condolences, no card (Dr. Evan's ALWAYS sent a card) nothing. I've since moved to Yolinda on Rose and they've become our primary Vet. It's sad to see a new generation destroy what the previous worked so hard to build. Placentia was a small community when Dr. Evan's started. We're a large city now and it's full of pets...that will miss his care. read more

There was a complete lack of urgency. Our dog's symptoms were brushed off, and we were sent home with pain meds--only to be told a few days later to stop them. Since then, our otherwise very healthy shepherd has declined rapidly. I requested her records to take to another animal hospital so she could finally get the care she needs, but they've dragged their feet. It's been 6 hours, and we still don't have them. read more

I first went to this place because Banfield animal hospital, being the weird corporate animal hospital that it is, kept charging me for a vet inspection even though my dog has to get regular allergy shots through them once every 4 months. So Banfield would not only charge me for the shot, which was 70 bucks, but also for the inspection which was an additional 50. So I wanted to find another vet who would only inspect her once a year and just give me the dang shot. This place did that and already I've gotten her three shots and they only charge 60 bucks per shot. So way easier and nicer. So yes, this place is great. Haven't used them for anything other than that though. read more

They where so understanding about my dogs anxiety and made us feel welcome, we have taking our dog to other vets in the past that have not believed us or made us feel guilty about our dogs uneasiness and crying in the vets. DO NOT GO HERE!!! It's DIRTY, smells, and the staff are more concerned with getting paid than the facilities cleanliness and care provided to the animals. Their 'soft cast' barely lasted a week. They recommended that my dog get a new cast every week for a month. I had to go back two days after they replaced the cast one week because it was falling apart - they tried to charge me for the newly replaced cast which I disputed since the old one didn't last three days. The next week when I visited this vet again for a new soft cast the vet was incredibly rude and was more concerned about informing me that I would be paying this visit than the progress / care provided for with my dog. They continue to use the same 'soft cast' which consists of cotton bandage wrap and costs $50 every week to replace - no wonder it falls apart easily. Additionally, this clinic is incredibly dirty and not well maintained - there was pee on the floor near the reception desk as well as the table top in the exam room. There are plenty of clinics in the area that are better choices and I wish I had gone somewhere else so my animal would have received better care from the start. read more

I am beyond happy with my experience at Placentia Veterinary Clinic! I just moved to the area and with my move I had to leave my previous vet behind. I was extremely hesitant when looking for a new vet because I have had negative experiences in the past. I have six fur babies so I am at the vet more than most! But yesterday when my litter of 2 week old French Bulldog puppies got sick I was forced to take them in to a new veterinary clinic. This clinic was able to get me an appointment next day and Dr. Debbie as well as the staff were amazing! Every employee I talked to on the phone was so kind and informative. Not only was Dr. Debbie very upfront and honest but she was extremely sympathetic as well. I could tell she really cared about my babies. My mom has been coming here since Dr. Evan was practicing and I was a kid, I'm decently old now. I live in Irvine and chose to do the drive and take my dog here, on the first visit back I was relieved that my dog was in good hands and they had his best intentions. After my first visit and I was making payment I asked how much it would be to get his teeth cleaned as well as if they took care credit which they replied YES! When I scheduled the appointment 2-3 months later I asked before I scheduled if they took care credit and they confirmed YES! When I took him in the morning of his appointment I confirmed for a third time if they took care credit and they replied YES! When I went to pick him up they gave me his meds and started bringing him out, as they were finishing running my care credit card and obviously it declined because they don't take it!! immediately they turned my dog around and put him in a cage and he began crying and barking because he saw me, they stopped giving me directions for his meds and only focused on they payment. I was in the lobby for over an hour being embarrassed in a lobby full of people as they talked to the owner on the phone saying he doesn't have money......again in a lobby full of people. I was absolutely humiliated and treated like I was trying to get one over on them as they proceed to try and get my moms information and my information even though they already had it......Again in a lobby full of people. They made a mistake and they should own it and not humiliate people, they should also continue to give direction about the meds they are giving you so you can continue to care for your dog at home. Things have sure changed from what I remember and I'm shocked at the way I was treated here over their mistake or maybe it was just the way I look?!?! I've taken my dogs to PVC for 15 yrs and I will never go back! The original owner was wonderful, completely in it for the animals. The new owner, while nice, seems more concerned about the money than the animals. I knew I shouldn't have gone back when my little Jaime was sick a week and a half ago but I didn't have a new vet. They took x-rays, sold me a bunch of meds (that he couldn't take cuz he wasn't eating) , told me about his x-ray results then sent me on my way. Did not seem the least bit concerned about the fluid in his body that showed up in the x-ray, just said to give him the diuretic and that would make him pee it out. I called the next day because Jaime still wouldn't eat so couldn't take meds (granted the vet knew he wasn't eating when prescribed pills). Two hours later the vet finally called back and said to bring Jaime in the next day for a shot! What? Why no shot the first time they saw him? My husband took him in. Dr couldn't be bothered to see him and had assistant give shot, so no more info on what may be wrong. Jaime died 24 hrs later. Maybe he would have regardless. I just think that if the vet had shown more concern, instead of telling me his heart, spine and trachea were all healthy, we could have proceeded differently. I new I should have trusted my thoughts on going back when the visit a yr ago resulted in one of my dogs screaming in pain when her assistant was cleaning his glands and shoving her inch long point nails up my little guys bottom. I will never recommend this place again and I will never forgive them for their lack of concern. Lastly, two days after I sent them an email about Jaime, they texted a reminder that Jaime had an appointment. I called to tell them he wouldn't make it since he died after his last visits. I brought my 18-year-old cat here recently. The inside feels very run down, with chipped paint on doors and fur stuck in corners, and the vet didn't seem to understand cat behavior at all. I explained when I called that my cat is very vocal but not aggressive. He does not like strangers touching him and she repeatedly tried to pet him despite his growls and then said a number of times that he was "so dramatic." Um, he's a cat; they are not exactly known for being super easygoing. He was not aggressive at all and his other vet totally understands him and gives him space. I didn't find the front desk staff to be very welcoming, either, so I won't be returning. Don't take your pets here. Our family has been using this vet since the early 80's when Dr. Evans was the vet. It has gone down hill ever since. My elderly dog who just turned 18 in May has been a patient here since I got him at the age of 8. Last night I didn't think he was going to make it through the night, he was suffering. So I called them first thing this morning to have him put down. They told me they couldn't get him in until tomorrow. I explained he was suffering and he wouldn't make it. They told me, sorry. So I called another vet (paws 'n' claws in Y.L.) They said they could get him in at 3:30, when I explained the situation that my dog was suffering they told me to come right in. I just got a puppy and wanted to get her shots so I came here because its the closest location and the staff seemed friendly over the phone. I just want to put it out there, I'm usually not one to post negative reviews because every place has their pros and cons but this is the worse experience that I have experienced with a business in my life. The building and room looks beat down, was extremely dirty, and when you walk in - theres a huge rack of food in front of your face. To me, that just shows that they care more about making money than our pets. First of all, when my puppy was in the examination room. The doctor proceeds to start touching my puppy without introducing herself, has a mask on but no gloves on while examining her. Walks away, grabs needles, doesn't say anything to us, comes back and then proceeds to start injecting my puppy until my boyfriend had to stop her and ask "what is that?" After asking, the doctor says "she forgot" finally introduced herself ( DR. DEBBIE ) and starts explaining to us what the shots were. Also they didn't inform us of the pricing at all and I guess they weren't going to tell us until you're about to pay unless you ask. We paid $70 for three shots. They did not give my puppy worm shots which is a common problem for puppies, if you were a veterinarian... shouldn't you know this? The second my puppy got home, she was not herself and this past couple weeks shes been getting more sick as the week goes on. This is my first and last time here. Her old vet ran a bunch of tests which cost me over 1000 dollars and I was getting absolutely no results. I decided to get a second opinion and found this place. Lots of great reviews, as I always check on yelp first. Our first visit was only about 20 mins. I was treated with such respect and so was my dog. Turns out, it was just an allergy to something I was giving her (food/supplements). The stomach issues have stopped and I was only out of pocket for the vet visit, which was pennies compared to her last vet. After months of stressing about this, we finally figured it out! I have been going to Placentia Veterinary Clinic since my dog Mieka was 10 weeks old. I originally went because the old reviews I read mentioned a particular vet that no longer was was the clinic. Instead, Dr Debbie Cassebeer was the new vet. I initially was pleased with their services, but an incident yesterday at the clinic was so out of line, so unprofessional, that it prompted me to stop going to the Placentia Veterinary Clinic and instead, seek out another veterinary clinic for my dogs needs. This wasn't some small transgression. Something a "I'm sorry" would cover. I didn't sleep at all, and Mieka, my dog, was skittish and anxious all afternoon and night after we got back. This morning she still is acting very unlike her usual happy self. I had an appointment yesterday, Thursday, January 13th at 2:00. Mieka ws done her yearly vaccinations and her three year vaccinations. I arrived and one of the staff told me they would set up a room for Mieka and to please stay in the waiting room until we were called. Mieka was skittish because a few months before she had major surgery at the clinic. Dr. Cassebeer admitted to me that they attempted to place the catheter, before the medication had kicked in, resulting in Mieka screaming and delaying the operation. So obviously she remembered the experience and was not happy being there. However, I was holding her so, even though she was trembling, she was keeping it together. Dr. Cassebeer walked in, said hello, told the staff to get the injections ready and picked up Mieka. She stated, not verbatim. Exactly. "We'll be right back. We want Mieka with us because she is so warm and cuddley." I am waiting in the room waiting or them to come back to administer the injections, when all of a sudden I hear Mieka screaming. At an octave, I have never heard. A few seconds later Dr. Cassebeer rushes back in with her assistant and said, "We thought it would be better if she was with her daddy so she would be more confortable. I looked at her; not believing she was actually lying to my face. She attempted to give Mieka her shots in another room. So I couldn't witness anything. That was so utterly weird and outrageious that I just stood there with my mouth agape. By the time, Mieka was in full scream mode. What on earth was Jennifer thinking taking my dog to administer her shots in another room, knowing she was already nervous from the botched catheter incident a few months earlier and knowing she would handle the shots better if she was with me and I was holding her? What possible excuse could be made for such a massive blunder? We finally got all three injections done with me primarily holding Mieka, but the psychological damage was done. Mieka hasn't been the same since and I am royally pissed off. I should have stopped going to the clinic when the vet of that clinic admitted during Mieka's operation earlier, that they messed up by not waiting for the medication to kick in before putting in the catheter, resulting in Mieka forever remembering that going to the Placentia Veterinary Clinic equals a negative experience. For that I am absolutely repentant. But this latest gaffe. Sorry, but you lost my business forever. With these kind of rookie mistakes you should have to go back to Vet school Jennifer, and your staff should learn to assert themselves and question when a procedure is being mishandled. I brought my cat in for a mass on her back. I thought she was going to have an I&D (incision and drain) but instead the Dr performed a needle aspiration which did nothing. I was charged $440 which included pre anesthesia blood work for a needle aspiration!!! (Seriously as a nurse, I could have done that!). I was also charged $35 for 2 pills of amoxicillin which cost $3! So now she needs to have another procedure which will cost another $1000! The Dr relied on the tech to explain the procedure and had no offer of discount for the actual incision to remove the mass! Unbelievably!! I have brought our other animals for routine checks that went so this was very shocking! My cat is worse off now than before!! Shame on you Dr Debbie for not taking some accountability for not fully explaining the procedure yourself and price gauging of $200 for unnecessary pre anesthesia blood work and antibiotics. I am about as angry as I can be. I took in my kitty who I stated had an upper respiratory issue going on. He was sneezing, watering eyes and mouth breathing. Dr Debbie said nothing was the matter and he probably just had allergies. I questioned it and asked if my kitty would be ok with my other kitties. They said nothing was the matter. Made to feel like I was over reacting, I paid my $82 (yes 82!) And went on my way. 3 days later I have all 3 kitties with Upper Respiratory Infections and one of my sweet babes may not make it!! Our cat came in for being dehydrated and reeking of kidney disease and so we take him in and the give him fluids and take his blood and she says nothing of it. Then after several visits and her saying "it might be kidney disease" he develops 2 ulcsers in his mouth and she prescribes subq fluids at home every other day so $700 later and all i get is a "it might be this" or "i could be that" no real answer. so i get fed up and went to a good vet and they told me he has stage 2 kidney disease and there's no reversing it. He would either have to be $1k worth of meds and be in the hospital twice a week, or we have to put him down and it's not looking too good. DO. NOT. GO. HERE. DR DEBBIE DIDNT HELP MY CAT AT ALL!! My corgi was throwing up on and off for two weeks and losing weight. I brought him in to see doctor Debbie and she took X-ray images and found an obstruction in his stomach. She immediately recommended surgery to remove the obstruction. Her charge for the procedure was very reasonable and all the subsequent follow ups were free. It's been two weeks now and my dog is recovering nicely. We have been coming to this clinic since my dog was 8 weeks old and the doctors have always shown great compassion. Find another Vet!! We have been going to this clinic for over 15 years, when Dr. Evans was still practicing. He was a spectacular vet who's care for animals and empathy for their owners was unmatched. Unfortunately, yesterday we called the clinic and explained that our dog was in need of end of life care and asked to be seen. They explained that we would be considered a walk in as they had many standing appointments. They explained that standing appointments, regardless of severity take priority. We understood that we may have to wait however, waiting over 3.5 hours in a parking lot with your dying dog is unacceptable and inhumane. The lack of empathy by the office staff and the doctor was cruel to say the least. I hope nobody else has to go through a day like our family had yesterday! read more

My husband and I took our dog here for the first time since his friend recommended this place. We made our dog's dental cleaning appointment with Aubrey. When I called for the first time, I was asking a lot of questions since we were new to the dental cleaning process, and not once did I feel like the person on the phone was bothered by my questions, which was really nice! Doctor Debbie made me feel rushed, overcharged and disrespected. I came to get a second opinion about my dog's skin issues. She did not answer my questions. She left the room before I felt at ease with her excessive recommended treatments. She left her tech to deal with all my questions and didn't answer the ones the tech went to ask her about. I was being pressured into adding extra treatments without any explanation of why she thought my pet needed it. The next vet reluctantly admitted it should have been obvious what the problem was (he didn't want to disparage another Vet) especially during the un-necessary surgery. The worst was, the day before the un-necessary surgery, my dog started bleeding some. It was 9:00am on a Tuesday they told me to go to an emergency vet because they couldn't carve out ten minutes to check my dog. read more

I know a lot of people are very fond of this office- and I used to be as well. To be honest, I've never had a bad experience with Dr. Evans - he's a friendly guy and has always been helpful. My problem is with the terrible experience I had with Dr. Debbie. Without detailing the entire process, what my situation boiled down to was I was told that our cat had two options: 1) Get a rather expensive surgery that HAD to be done the very next day or 2) Put him down. It wasn't the best news. Since he's older, we felt we may have to put him down. Debbie sent our cat home since they were closing and said to make a decision and come back the following day. I decided to make some calls and took him for a second opinion at another local vet. And man, am I lucky that I did that. The other vet gave a drastically different diagnosis and felt our cat would be fine after they worked on him and gave him some medicine. And they were absolutely correct. Instead of having an operation or putting him down, a week later our cat is healthy and as good as new. We heard back from Debbie to make sure we were going to come back and settle up our bill. Because with her, I feel that's the driving factor. I don't know what else it could be. My opinion is she's either a surgery pusher($$$) or just inept at her job, but either way I wouldn't trust her with my ex-girlfriend's pet. If she ever left, I would return here. However, as long as she's here I won't go anywhere near this place. When you put people in hard situation where they have to spend a lot of money on a needless and expensive surgery or instruct them they should put down their animal AND you're totally wrong, what good are you? If you have any questions, please contact me and I'll share more details. I also have the original surgery estimate she provided along with the bill of services rendered from the other vet to show the extreme difference. I'm so disappointed with this clinic after Dr Evans passed away. Dr Evans was the best of the best. Always willing to help if you did not have the means to treat your animals. About 12 years ago, my daughter found Dr Evans after making so many phone calls to other veterinarian clinics asking for a price to treat Oreo my cat that now he is about 15 years old. Oreo got into Abad, bad fight and he got really injured. While all the other clinics wanted to charge on the thousands, Dr Evans was willing to help us and only charged us less than $300. For the surgery and ON TOP of that , Dr Evans neutered him since he wasn't and that was one of the reasons he got into this fight. And also for those $300. he did all the check ups Oreo needed. HE WAS A VERY CARING AND LOVING GUY. I'm just a person that cares for stray cats. For the passed 5 years. (I did not care for animals before! ) that's why my youngest daughter made so many phone calls 15 years ago regarding Oreo and that's how she found Dr Evans. I learned to have compassion for them and I have been feeding a lot stray cats. In between then and now, I have been finding kittens from these feral cats. Several of these kittens have had heath issues . I have taken them to pet's smart and pro-fix in Fullerton because because it's cheaper. Since feeding about 9 cats morning and night it adds up. About 4-5 months ago I found 4 nursing kittens , one of the kittens had a respiratory issue so I called Dr Evans clinic. (I bring my own cats and dogs here) Last July , I trapped a pregnant cat. After 2 weeks she gave birth to 3 kittens. They had the respiratory issue and one had bad diarrhea. I asked for free consultation, I had to beg and all I got , was half off consultation fee, so I brought them to them . Now is time to spay the mom, I asked for some help again, this time they refused to help at all. When I brought this cat (I call her mommy) in the morning for surgery, they gave me a price sheet to sign, I declined the pain medication because mommy does not trust me completely yet so I would not be able to give her the pain medication if I would gotten it. So they offered a shot which is doble the price , it cost about $50. Here I was asking for a discount price and they keep trying to sell. I declined the shot also, not because I wanted to but I do not have a lot of money. After I dropped her off, they called me to let me know that they saw parasites ( "they were really concerned about mommy's parasites") and asked me if I wanted to treat it, ( here they are again, trying to sell when originally asked them for a discount). It would been another $70.-75 dollars, I say yes, since she is inside my house until she recovers from surgery. At the end of the day, I ended paying $270.00 because apparently she was in heat and they HAD to charge $75.00 more (as if I haven't asked for help since she is a stray cat) I honestly was hopping that the Dr there would have some sympathy and be willing to help, at this point , not to charge extra because she was in heat. Believe me, if I would of know that she was in heat , I would of not brought her inn. I asked what those $75 covered, they said that the female's inside are inflamed so the Dr has to be more careful and make the incision bigger. Really ? The Dr couldn't skip the extra charge ? The inside is inflamed and she has to make a bigger cut!!! The Dr did not sympathize and did not care to help a feral cat. I really thought Vets go to school because they CARE for the animals not solely for the money, (I'm sure there's exceptions. LIKE MY BELOVED DR EVANS) . This Dr did not care a bit for this feral cat so that she would be willing to give her the pain medication shot for free. They said that the first 3 days is painful. Did they care? NO!!!NO WAY!!! I have been spending so much money on formula and food (formula and kitten food is super expensive ) What a disappointment. I thought they went to school for the love of animals. Do not misunderstand what I'm saying please. I know that they have the cost of running a business and for a fact, I was not asking for a free service. I was asking for some help. They kept saying every time I asked, "we are not a low cost clinic" excuse me, do you want to help to stop the multiplication of cats that have no one that cares for them? I know now not to ask anymore for help since they are not willing. Dr Evans, I miss you so much, you were the kindest person, always willing to help , you always remembered people's names and their pets and had a big smile!!!! read more

I want to thank everyone at Placentia Veterinary Clinic for the years of excellent service. We have been coming here for several years. Dr. Cassebeer, or Dr. Debbie, as some call her, is fabulous. She has a no nonsense approach and is very honest about what needs to be done. I appreciate that. Smuck, our pug, is not a fan of Placentia Veterinary Clinic because it usually means a shot or some sort of exam. However, we are always treated with respect and everyone knows us! Dr. Cassebeer is so good with Smuck and every time there has been an issue, it was taken care of. She is like the dog whisperer!! How she knew Smuck had a backache... I will never know!
