Seemed to be trying to upsell me. Definitely beware of this dental office and maybe even avoid it. I have GERD and am prone to dental problems. I went in for emergency care for a toothache in a molar when my regular dental office was often booked out and told me my insurance maxed out which I thought couldn't be correct as I didn't know dental insurance often had limits on what it will cover each year. Had to make multiple appointments and they were all close together. At Placerville Dental, the receptionist lady who handles billing told me that my insurance would fully cover it. A few months later, I received a surprise bill statement in the mail of nearly $1,000, apparently, I was lied to. I called asking why this happened. I was told it just took a while to verify with my insurance. Seems like a lame excuse. They said I had five cavities in my lower teeth. They numbed my entire lower jaw and did five fillings at once. Later, one of my premolars had a toothache. My regular dentist from Mather Field Dental recommended I get a root canal in that tooth and consult with an endodontist. The endodontist looked at my X-rays and said that the filling Placerville Dental placed in that tooth is right up against the nerve, irritating it. I got a root canal in the tooth that probably could have been avoided if the dentist at Placerville Dental did a better job. Placerville Dental did a cleaning and a non-surgical laser treatment in addition to a cleaning I got. As someone with health-related anxiety/OCD, this gave me the illusion that I was being given exceptional care. One of the times at Placerville Dental, when I expressed dental discomfort, the dentist dismissed me saying it was food on my teeth, which I did have as I didn't have time to brush my teeth properly beforehand. Yes, it's a good idea to clean your teeth right before dental appointments, but the dentist remarked that in such a way that it made me feel scolded. How rude. At one point, the dentist at Placerville Dental took X-rays and this time said the tooth with the toothache had irreversible pulpitis, but when I went to an emergency visit with my regular dentist, Dr. Tapang at Mather Field Dental, he took an X-ray and he also agreed that there was an infection in the tooth. He prescribed me a course of antibiotics and it made the toothache go away while Placerville Dental didn't do sh*t. read more

My husband and I both went in as new patients for our yearly cleanings. My husband was then given a treatment and estimate for additional work that needed to be done on his teeth, for a cost of $17,928!!!! Outrageous prices and rude customer service. When we found a new dentist and asked that our records be transferred we were given the cold shoulder and told it would cost $60 for them to transfer the records. To push a "send" button? Really? Zero stars! They can't estimate anything. Horrible service for 10's of thousands of dollars. My surgery was 2 hours longer than they said. My dad waited in the car for the entire two hours and neither of us received an explanation why it took so long. My permanent prosthetic was supposed to take 6 weeks, it has been 13 and I still don't have it. I had to call repeatedly to get an estimate each time they said someone would call back and they never did. Recently went in as a new patient. The doctor and staff were all very nice and helpful. The lady doctor explained everything I needed to have done and also told me there were some other areas that we will just keep an eye on for now which I appreciated her honesty. The dental tech I had was very knolagable and very friendly. I am very embarrassed about my teeth ,but the tech made me feel very comfortable during the whole appointment. After retiring and moving to Placerville in 2023 and not having dental insurance for 2 years, I turned 65 and got on Medicare part C with dental insurance. My paper from Medicare told me that I can pick a dentist, but they named Placerville Dental Group as my dental office. I made an appointment and went in. I have very good dental hygiene. I have had no pain or any problems since my last dental visit 2 years ago. On the examination, I was told that I needed a lot of work done, it would take 3 visits and cost me $2400.00 out of pocket. Then a hygienist cleaned my teeth. It was the quickest cleaning by far that I've ever had. He suggested that I get braces ( I'm 65 years old! ) and wrote me up for a night guard mouth piece, with an out of pocket price of $500.00. I had to tell them to take the night guard off of my bill. I really felt like they were looking at me as a cash source much more than a patient. I will be finding a different dental office. read more

This place has changed owners or something they are terrible now. The staff is mostly new except the receptionists. They have canceled 2 appointments on me. When they cancel them they do not re-schedule them, its up to you to put forth the effort to reach out to them and reschedule. Today was the final straw. Today they sent me a confirmation at 1:35 pm for my 3:30 pm appointment, I showed up and the office is dark. I call and the answering service says they had to "close early". The dentist do a good job My issue is their charging. They inflate their charges at least $100 per service. We felt the hygienists pushed for special treatment such as a toothpaste they charged $50 for I replaced on Amazon for $18. The owner, Dr. Barinderpal Cheema, has responded by trying to deflect criticism from the dentist to the patient. No matter how well disclosed, he's saying that it's okay for them to pressure patients into unnecessary services, overcharge for services rendered, and lie to insurance companies. He is suggesting that he tells his dentists and staff to defraud patients, as long as the fraudulent charges are disclosed prior to service. You decide for yourself whether you want a dentist who will publicly admit that they'll try to scam you whenever you visit. read more

Beware of extra hidden charges. Understand this dentist is not concerned about your immediate dental needs and didn't even suggest a cleaning. I needed a new dentist for teeth cleanings and general check up and decided to come here. After a check up, they told me I needed 7 fillings and a crown. I was shocked by the need of a crown as I am relatively young and take decent care of my teeth. So I decided to go ahead with a cleaning and the fillings and forego the crown for a second opinion. One month later and I have just left a different dentist (trusted by a close friend) who said that not only that I don't need a crown, BUT ALSO THAT THERE IS NO CAVITY THERE. He then proceeded to ask how recently my teeth had been cleaned, because there was a build up of plaque. He was shocked to learn it was only a month prior, commenting that they were not very thorough. (I also feel compelled to add that this dentist ordered a new set of xrays without me paying out of pocket, because he was concerned with the care of my teeth not the finances.) In summary, Placerville dental was merely trying to take advantage of me by scaring me into nearly paying over $800 for a crown I did not need. Dr. Steele was able to get me in rather quickly as opposed to other offices. He understood the uncomfortable condition my mouth was in. I had only seen this dentist but to get my teeth cleaned. Upon my first visit I was shown the office and was given a tour. Not so impressed by the hospitality but nonetheless I stuck with them. The hygenist (whom was amazing had moved on so I decided to also, seeing she was the only reason I stayed). I was given another name for a dentist in town that I understand is just awesome (who really likes dentist anyways right?) My wife and I both went here soon after moving up to the foothills. They wanted to charge us both several thousand dollars for various procedures. In my case they said I needed an implant and tried to scare me as to what would happen if I didn't get the implant. Well, after that we decided to go to another dentist who could not understand why they would want to remove a good tooth and replace it with an implant. I got uncomfortable vibes while waiting in the office, and when I finally talked with Brian Steele, I could not believe what an arrogant a**hole he was. Tina who manages their billing is extremely unprofessional and dishonest. Even though their website clearly discloses the insurance providers they contract with she doesn't acknowledge or support it. Horrible customer communication. Way over billed, refused to bill our insurance company until I convinced her we had insurance and then doubled the bill to avoid a refund. So many other wonderful dental groups that have better staff. For a small town this kind of customer service does not provide a good reputation for the dentist and certainly loses clients. Worst dentist office EVER!! From the front office staff, especially Debra (or Debby) this place was a nightmare. They had me in the office a few times and both times were horrible. Debra was the most rude person, she acted like more of a salesperson with an attitude than an office manager. And Dr. Chimi (however you spell his name) was no better! He was arrogant and acted like he was doing me a favor by working on my teeth. I honestly don't know how they keep patients! Plus they are waaay overpriced!
