My dentist in Tahoe retired and i was in need of getting rid of my metal fillings and replacing them with crowns. I decided to find a dentist close to my parents house so i could spend the day with my folks whenever i needed to go to the dentist. Dr Brian took the time to sit down and find out a little of who i am before doing the work. That was several years ago. Now, i mostly see Nick for my cleanings. He is very thorough in what i need to do in preventative care. I dont have great teeth genes and im always dreading the next filling or crown that used to happen every time i would go to the dentist. Yes, its a little more work staying on top of what Nick tells me to do but it is so worth it when i go in for a cleaning and its just a cleaning! I leave there smiling ear to ear read more

They do not abide by their contract with my insurance company, Delta Dental. They quoted me $1625 for a root canal and crown in a lower canine tooth with an obvious cavity. I said I would think about it. I went home and called Delta Dental; they said it should have been an amount around $600. They also quoted me $10,000 to have all the teeth extracted and a denture. Insurance said that way, way high! I cannot find an honest dentist that abides by their contract with insurance. read more

Wow, the dentist here has the most terrible bedside manner I've ever encountered. Complete ego train! I had to have a tooth removed and my normal dentist does not do extractions. This office got me in the same day. I was literally Soo greatful until after an hour ( and exrays) when the hygienist started numbing the wrong side of my mouth... Then she said they just put the wrong number tooth in the system...I was asking her questions about what material my bone graft was made of to which I got a response of " I think it's from pig?" I had a few more questions which had very weak questionable responses. The dentist came in, I asked him his name and he said " You can just call me Arthur..." Even though that wasn't his name...he never once properly introduced himself and had alot of degrading jokes about me " being like the old people" that were not very funny. Also, I've had a tooth removed once by an oral surgeon...it was out in under 3 minutes! This guy drilled my crown off first and cut the tooth in pieces ( at least 2 hours! ) Not to mention, I'm already on the table with my tooth drilled into....When I asked why he was using the drill ( because I didn't understand). He asked me " Who did my last procedure?" When I told him -his response was defensive! "Want to make an appointment with him?" Omfg are you kidding me right now? Then after 2 hours of drilling and removing the tooth ...I have a hole in the side of my gum about the size of a large pea and that's besides the hole from my tooth!!...no sutures... During exrays after removal there was a bug on my protector vest!!! Seriously....the only thing pleasant about this place was the secretary staff. Im praying from no dry socket or infection!!! I haven't been to the dentist in years, so when I got a toothache and started having major sensitivity to cold I wasn't surprised. I made an appt with this office because they were able to see me quickly & the front office staff seemed friendly enough. When the assistant checked me in I was asked standard questions, she took some pictures of the problem area, one x-ray of the problem area, and one panoramic x-ray. When Dr. Steele came in the room he asked me to tell him a little about myself. One of the things I discussed is my lack of trust and confidence in doctors. He seemed empathetic & I was hopeful he wouldn't try to take advantage of my situation. After our chat he had me bite down on a Q-tip to test out where the pain was and did a cold test for the sensitivity. Once that was done he told me I have tooth decay & gum disease. I asked if it was in my entire mouth, his response was a condescending nod yes with his eyes closed (his friendly attitude wasn't so friendly anymore). He then told me I needed a root canal and a crown. I did NOT have a full set of x-rays. Dr. Steele did NOT perform an exam. Dr. Steele did NOT check my pocket numbers. Now we're discussing options & he asks me if I want an estimate for the work. Sure. At this point my attitude has changed and I make that known verbally. He asked me what I expected to happen. I said I expected I may need a filling replaced and possibly a root canal. I did not expect to be told I have tooth decay and gum disease in my entire mouth. I asked for a copy of my x-rays and advised I would be getting a second opinion. At this point Debra walks in who I believe is the office manager, hears my request and makes some sort of tsk sound, like I have some nerve asking for my x-rays. I was presented with an estimate of $4,608 for a crown, core build up, root canal, gingivectomy, resin composite X2, desensitizing X2, a deep cleaning for one quarter of my mouth, & antimicrobial support. I was also given an optional estimate for nitrous of $155 & intravenous sedation for $424. This was all very concerning considering I don't have dental insurance & would be paying out of pocket. Several days later I took a 3 hour drive to a dentist who I know and trust. I was very happy to be told that I do NOT have tooth decay and gum disease. I do NOT need a root canal and a crown. I was told that I have great teeth but I do need a deep cleaning & one filling replaced. Lucky for me I am not naive and have never been someone you can take advantage of. Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who are. This doctor should be ashamed of himself for trying to take advantage of his patients. Despicable. read more

I've been going to Dr. Steele for over a year now for several fillings, root canals, crowns and TMJ. He has done a great job fixing old dental work and addressing new issues. He has an excellent bedside manner with a caring disposition. The technicians and office staff are also excellent. They are all very personable, professional and I've never had to wait for my appointment to begin. They run a tight ship and it's much appreciated. When I cancelled my Invisalign because I couldn't take it, Dr. Steele was very understanding and his staff worked to get me a huge credit that I'm happy to use on fillings and crowns. Been going here for a couple years. Checkup and cleanings every 6 months. Then one day they tell me I have a bunch of cavities and need fillings and a crown on a molar. I go to the desk and the 1 crown morphed into 2 crowns all of a sudden on 2 different molars. I'm thinking about it as I go home that I had been in 6 months prior and they said I had no cavities or anything now I have several of those and 2 other teeth so bad they require crowns? Why didn't they do anything 6 months ago before they got so bad? Didn't add up. Went to another dentist today and he says I need no crowns and I have no cavities. That's over 5k in uneeded work Placerville Dental was trying to get me for. Not only the wasted money but crowns are destructive and to tear up 2 of my healthy teeth for no reason is monstrous! This review concerns only Dr. Madeline Majer. In no way is this review directed at Placerville Dental Group, which appears to be highly recommended. When Dr. Majer was employed in 2012 by Roseville's A+ Personalized Dental Care, she performed a range of general dentistry services for me. She advised me to replace a crown on an upper molar due to decay in the underlying tooth. After discussions about options and risk of loss going forward, I agreed to her recommendation to perform the expensive procedure. Following the dental surgery, a temporary office-made crown was installed and the gingiva was sutured with several stitches. Then, over the next several days I had to return three times to be re-sutured (a record according to office personnel). Each re-suturing called for anesthesia. In one case, Dr. Majer wanted me to wait overnight but she reluctantly relented and saw me that afternoon. The third re-suturing (which was really the 4th counting the original surgery), worked. Up to this point, I had received more than a dozen (lido)caine injections and as many sutures, all in the space of a week. At no point before or during these appointments was I informed that Dr. Majer was preparing to quit A+ to go to work in Placerville. Had I known, I would most certainly have chosen a different dentist at the outset. Is it ethical for a dentist to fail to disclose, to begin treatment, knowing s/he won't be around to complete the treatment? Several days later, while waiting for my new crown to arrive, the temporary crown AND the tooth broke off at the gum line. I was eating a piece of bread at the time, nothing stressful to the teeth. Clearly, that tooth had been weakened or... was too compromised for crown replacement to begin with. Of course, unknown to me, Dr. Majer had moved on. I had to immediately undergo new, expensive periodontal surgery by another dentist to dig out the bone-submerged portion of the tooth. The perio then performed a bone graft in the hope that an implant and crown can be installed months from now. So, I'll be missing a molar for six months and may not be able to receive an implant if the graft fails. Evaluating Dr. Majer's treatment and failure to disclose, the dental practice refunded all costs for her effort. I did not have to ask. It seems clear that Dr. Majer should NOT have recommended crown replacement on this tooth. She had 3D imagery -- a cone beam computed tomogram or CBCT -- available for treatment planning. CBCT permits precise 360 degree views of the tooth in the jawbone, clearly revealing defects. My new dentist -- who is excellent -- used this imagery to remove the broken tooth with no need to flap open the gingiva over the jawbone. Dr. Majer should have used the 3D image. I have little doubt she would have referred me to an implantologist. Failing this, she should have disclosed her plan to quit in the middle of my treatment before the first surgery. Her departure relieved her of responsibility in my case. I think it clouded her judgement about the surgery in the first place. Perhaps the money was more important than the patient. Now you know. Let me repeat: This review concerns only Dr. Madeline Majer. In no way is this review directed at Placerville Dental Group, which appears to be highly recommended. read more

We went to this dentist because we just purchased dental insurance in an attempt to save money on dental care. We are retired and on a fixed income. We previously paid for dental care (every 6 months) out of pocket. My spouse and I went to the Placerville Dental Group dentist in late 2011. This dentist, Ashkan Alizadeh took x-rays, did a periodontal exam and presented a treatment plan for each of us. My recommended treatment plan consisted of Deep Cleaning and two crowns and one filling replacement. My total out of pocket cost would be $2700+. My spouse's recommended treatment plan consisted of a regular cleaning, two fillings and three crowns. My wife's total out of pocket cost would be $3,200+. We found this to be outrageous given the following.... We each explained to them that we had been going to a dentist every six months for the past 40 years, so we were not someone coming into the dentist who had neglected their dental health. We also told them we had been going to a local dentist , who is not associated with our new insurance, every six months for the past seven years and that none of these procedures were recommended by our previous dentist. In my case, I told them I wanted to schedule just a regular cleaning. They REFUSED to do a regular cleaning because they claimed I had periodontal disease and they would only do a deep cleaning. So here I am, trying to save money by purchasing insurance, and now the dentist tells me just the cleaning is going to cost (just my share) over $750. It's kind of ironic, now that I have insurance, I can't afford to get my teeth cleaned. SECOND OPINION: After the surprising diagnosis of periodontal disease, I decided to return to my prior dentist for a checkup. On December 7, 2011, the hygienist did a periodontal exam and cleaned my teeth. The dentist personally did a physical exam of my teeth and gums. He reported to me that all was well and there were no issues with my teeth and NO periodontal disease. Given my experience, I WOULD NOT recommend the Placerville Dental Group to anyone. read more

Well, I won't return to this office. I had scheduled a payment plan with them. The initial plan was in place, and they failed to follow the automatic withdrawal. I followed up, but nothing came of it. We sent a second plan in place where I would drop off payments every other week. Before I could drop off the second payment, I noticed a large withdrawal from my account. Since it was around the time I was getting ready to drop off the check, I let it slide. However, a week later, they did it again. I never authorized these withdrawals, only the initial payment plan which was never followed. I placed a call and asked them to stop. I said I'd drop off the final payment in person. However, a week later, another unauthorized withdrawal came out from our account. They get 2 stars because the dentistry is good. New patient this year to repair some crowns and get back to a regular dental routine. Everything and everyone there has been responsive, friendly, and caring. They take the time to explain any procedure and review cost and insurance coverage before the work is done. I decided to have Invisaline retainers and they explained the process with pictures and progression video. It's costly compared to similar do-it-yourself mail order systems, but here it is monitored and teeth are adjusted to get the proper spacing as needed included in the cost every six weeks. I have some disability issues and get assistance when needed too. read more

the worst dental group i ever experience! will lets start from the beginning ,my former dentist retired so i look for a new dentist that would be close to were i live. so i made appointment with Placerville dental group and came in the next week to check out some caps i needed. the dentist said i needed 2 caps and i said ok . the dentist said she would in a little while . so i went to the counter and they gave me a estimate of 2,200 ok lets go with it, then i was going to pay for today the counter lady said so much and i said what! why so much and she said because we took x-rays . i said no you didnt i sent my xrays to you last week from my former dentist. well let me check, o yes you did ok then it will be $$$ i said wait a minute how about me insurance.. O yea it will be $10.00 ok that sound a lot better, so i made my horrible mistake and made a appointment. i came in the for my appointment and had to wait 40min to see the dentist to do my caps once i got in the dentist that look at my teeth was not there anymore so a new dentist look at my teeth and wanted to get started, i said ok let get started , a women came to my side a said my estimate was going to be over 3000.00 i said wait a minute you gave me a estimate last time a it was 2,200 . and the the women said O ya the dentist today said i need a root canal. then i said i only cane afford 2200 . she said will we can do another tooth. ok do it. after that session i had to make another appointment to get the caps, after 3 weeks i went back to get me cap installed. now the real nightmare started. the dental assistant put the cap in my mouth and told me to bit down when i did it hurt, i said this cap is not right the dental assistant do worry once i glue it in place the dentist can adjust the cap, i said no something is wrong . do worry the dentist will adjust she was not listening to me and glued it in place , i got up furious and said its not right something is wrong.. dont worry she said again. i went to the counter in pain because the sharp edge of the cap was hitting my tong the counter woman said what is wrong i said i am in pain because something is wrong she said do you want to see the dentist i said YES. they said as soon as the dentist get time he would look at me 30 min go by, the dentist looks at my cap and SAID THE CAP IS NOT RIGHT IT IS MADE WRONG.so i had to make another appointment 3 weeks later the dentist had to grind the wrong cap out of my mouth, horrible. there were more horrible accounts that happen.. i asked the counter women to have the dentist or office manager to call me or email me.. they NEVER CALLED OR EMAILED ME, I CALLED THE OFFICE WOMEN A WEEK OR 2 AND SHE SAID SHE TOLD THE DENTIST AND OFFICE MANAGER TO CALL. We recently had our first visit here and it felt like we were in a car dealership. They tried to sell us on things we did not need. We also got billed for services that were not rendered as billed. When we tried to switch dentists, we could not get copies of our x-rays. When we finally did, and paid for them, they were only pictures of the x-rays and not the actual x-rays, so we had to get complete new x-rays at a different dentist and pay out of pocket. We will never go back nor do we recommend them. read more

He stated he could only give me 5 cartridges by law which is actually not true. Deborah the office manager decided to cash my check for the extraction that was NOT done as I ran to the pharmacist !!! If I could, I would rate this dentist with zero stars. If you like going to the dentist pain free and coming out the same, this might not be the dentist for you. Went in, no pain, no problems. Dentist advised me that I had cracks in my old fillings and he advised I replace them because they could crack further. Mind you, I had no problems with these three teeth and no pain whatsoever. After replacing all three fillings with new ones, I went home. Once the novacaine wore off, I knew I had a problem. In one of my new fillings, I have sensitivity (pain, essentially) whenever I chew anything besides yogurt. I returned to this office twice more hoping that the dentist could somehow figure out what he had done wrong and fix it, but after going back the second time the dentist advised me that if the pain didn't subside on its own, he would have to re-do the work. I went to another dentist who told me he doesn't advise his patients to have work done on teeth that do not need it and/or are not in pain, thanks doc, wish I would've came to you in the 1st place. I can only suspect that the dentist at Placerville Dental group just wanted to charge me for something extra, since I did not have any cavities and was not in need of anything further than X-rays & an exam. At any rate, now I must have a root canal on this tooth, or continue to eat on one side of my mouth. On another note, the office manager & front desk receptionist are clearly unaware that the entire office can HEAR everything you say about your patients & others. I have never heard such trash talking in a public place that is suppose to be there for the service of their patients...not to denigrate them! And btw ladies, you're not all that, so take it outside or just shut up, no one respects this type of behavior and I can only assume the dental "professionals" in the office are not only aware of this disgusting behavior, but most likely partake and encourage it. If you go here and have had none of these issues, well aren't you the lucky ones?! I have been with this dentist since March 2018 when I needed a crown. My insurance had changed requiring me to travel to Placerville from South Lake Tahoe for DeltaCare. After checking reviews I decided to go Placerville Dental. Crown was taken care of, then follow up visit I was shown a video explaining how my crooked teeth needed to be straightened to prevent extra dental care. Was told impressions would be free and then ended up paying $100. I should have questioned that, but I didn't. Received a quote for $5000 for invisilign treatment which I declined. Asked for a cleaning appointment but the next availability was not until June, in 3 months. Had cleaning in June with pockets of 2-3s but with a lot of bleeding. Hygienist recommended another appointment in 4 months. Fast forward to October, at the next cleaning I was told by a different hygienist that things had progressed to the point of early periodontitis and I needed $1100 periodontal trays to nip it in the bud. OK, I don't want to loose my teeth, so I said yes. But then I was left alone for 20 minutes. Sitting in the chair I had time to think about this outlay and whether it was necessary. Maybe I should get a second opinion for the cost of a $10 office visit. I just finished being evaluated by Missouri Flat Dental. My pockets are still 2-3s. No bone loss. Just regular cleanings are required. No periodontal referral needed. What a relief. Needless to say I will be sticking with Missouri Flat. read more

A dental emergency brought me to Placerville Dental Group but the people will keep me coming back. I was thoroughly pleased with the treatment I received from Dr. Alizadeh. He made it very clear that my comfort was his first priority. And that translated to my experience. The office staff is efficient, friendly and professional. They are my dental team. BTW, I had yet another dental emergency over the weekend and called Dr. Alizadeh on his cell phone. He returned my call within minutes, phoned in a prescription and I'm on the mend as I write this. Dr. Mucci is a capable local dentist in small-town California. He is a Delta Dental preferred provider, which makes his services cost effective. He went to a first-tier dental school. He also offers low-cost dental services to those in need. We had him handle our oldest son's major dental issues and he did so quickly and competently and at a reasonable price, considering we were paying out of pocket. As a result, we sent two of our younger kids to him and they were also handled efficiently. When it came time for me to need an extraction and implant, his prices being in the Delta circle were the best, so I gave him a try. It was then that I found out that his business model involves using preferred provider status as a loss leader so he can get you in the door and make the hard sale for unnecessary, costly products like cosmetic dentistry and Invisalign (TM). His hard sale approach was unbecoming a medical professional. It appears his expertise is more in extracting money from patients' pockets than their teeth. And he is creepy when he does it, invoking time-worn sales techniques from the car salesman's playbook. He did not tell the truth about his income incentives for selling Invisalign. (Invisalign's own marketing materials explain that they sell the system for around $1800 and that the system is then sold to patients for $5-7K.) I left feeling awkward and not handled professionally. I am 58 years old and have had consistent first-class dental care my entire life. I worked as a model to pay my way through college and law school. No dental or fashion professional has ever suggested I needed orthodontia until this moment. And he tried to make me feel bad for refusing his advice, invoking my obligations to my own children. To top it off, the staff cannot for some reason figure out that I use my middle name as my first name, and in five visits has screwed up my name each time. read more

First I have to say that I do not like going to the dentist. I have really bad anxiety when I have to go. I also hate it when I have to wait in doctors or dentist offices when I have an appointment, which I only had to wait a couple minutes before they took me back. I also don't live here in town but I use to and I have been coming here since 2011. This last visit was awesome! I was so pleased with all the staff. Dr. Mucci is a miracle worker. I was in so much pain. When visiting I called and was hoping to get in while in town, Thanks to Debra and staff they were able to fit me in right away. I'm only in town for a few weeks and they got me in, worked on my tooth which I needed a root canal and crown which was very expensive. I ended saving $1000 from buying dental insurance through the office and it helped with the bill, it's also really cool because now with future visits I'll have about 40% off. When I was having the work done Dr. Mucci and the rest of the staff made me feel very comfortable and I didn't feel anxiety at all. They numbed me enough so I didn't feel no pain while they were working on my tooth. I would have to say this dental office is first class all around. I'm very pleased with the work that was done and with the expedited service on getting my crown before I go back home. That was excellent costumer service!! I will continue to keep Placerville dental group as my dentist even though I live 6.5 hours away. read more

The staff and dentist said all 4 of my 15 year old daughter's wisdom teeth "need to be removed" When we asked the doctor's staff why they became very defensive and reluctantly gave a shaky reply so I asked to speak with the Dr about it. He was visibly angry that we dared question him, but knowing he was caught in a scam, quickly changed their diagnosis to, "not needed", but just a "recommended elective surgery, we did not say needed", "we recommend them to be removed, that's all". When questioned further, he said his explanation for the recommendation was based on the fact that only one of the four molars had not emerged. And that even though that one molar was positioned fairly normally, he said it "might" trap food and they "serve no purpose anyway, so we like to go ahead and pull all four while we're there" (I bet they do - at a co-pay cost of over $2,600.00). When I said I had researched the practice of removing wisdom teeth the statistics show 80% of wisdom molar removals are unnecessary, he attacked me pettily stating, "where did you research, on the internet!?" I also asked about them serving no purpose. I had read they do provide additional chewing surface and a potential bridge location for the second molar. He agreed but was again hostile saying, "yeah in 60 years from now if she needed the bridge!" I respectfully said we do hope our daughter lives at least another 60 years. He also said she had one very minor cavity that later proved to be just a spec of chocolate on her #15 OL that was left from her Starbucks she had drank just prior to her visit. Because I am use to doctor's expecting their patients to be sheeple and not respecting their customers intelligence or to them asking questions, I was mentally prepared for his attacks and stayed calm and respectful during our discussion. I made sure not to lower myself to his level of anger and hostility. We thanked him for his advice and left saying we would think about it and get back to him. Later we requested copies of her x-rays and records and switched dental providers for the entire family. I have described accurately what I feel are very shameful and all too common tactics of dentists and doctors - they border on malpractice and are certainly a violation of their Hippocratic Oath to do no harm to their patients just to make money. You should be patient with all doctor recommendations and do your own research and most importantly trust your intuition and don't be afraid to ask questions - take a day or three to think it over. Based on our experience with Placerville Dental Group, I would highly recommend that you avoid this place as they have proven to be unethical and the doctor is a young immature dentist that becomes very hostile if you dare question his recommendations. They tried to pressure us into unneeded surgery just to make a buck - shame on them! 12/15/12 Update: We took my daughter to a different dentist and confirmed what we suspected about Placerville Dental Group. She had no cavities and her molars do not need to be removed - as we suspected. It would have cost us almost $3000 for Placerville Dentist Groups aggressively recommended elective (unneeded) procedures had we blindly went along with them. Avoid them like the plague. If you have SafeGuard Insurance, I highly recommend Green Valley Dental Group in El Dorado Hills - you won't believe the difference in service- they have integrity and honesty and appreciate your business. Dr.Steele is my dentist he does the best work I have ever seen.i used to cover my mouth when I would laugh because of the rot at the gum line they were so ugly.I spent a lot of time at that office in Placerville.He fixed me all up.Now I show everyone my beautiful teeth I am so thankful for Dr.Steele.He is the man.My husband also has work done by Dr.Steele we both love him & all the girls in the office.thanks Shell read more

Wonderful dentist and very nice office. All the staff is amazing so worth going. Very personable staff. The equipment is top notch and. The X-ray is super easy not like the typical machine. Unlike other dds this is a pleasant experience and my kids actually get excited to go to dentist. read more

I am astonished at the level of professionalism among the staff at this dental office. I called and booked an appointment for a cleaning. At first they were unsure if they took my insurance or not and notified me that they would call me back and let me know. I already thought it was a little strange because they had booked my husband an appointment he following day with no issue and we have the same insurance. They called me back later that day and left a message saying that they do take my insurance. Fast forward to the day of my appointment. I get a call saying that there was an issue with my insurance and that they were unable to see if I was eligible? To be honest I have no idea what they were talking about. I called my insurance and Was on the phone all morning and sure enough I am covered and there shouldn't have been an issue. I called Heather several times before my appointment today to verify if I was covered. She said she needed my providers phone number to verify the coverage so I gave it to her and asked her to please call me back before my appointment. Radio silence. So I go 30 minutes early to my appointment to try and see if there is somehow I could straighten out this problem in person. I get to the office and all doors are locked at 12:30 pm. There was one door open with no one at the front desk. So I popped my head around the corner and asked for help and if I was in the wrong place. There were two ladies sitting down at a table eating lunch and they rudely said, "this is a private office, you can wait outside." I've never been to a medical professional where the entire staff takes their lunch at the same time. How they responded did not make me feel welcomed at all. I've never been to a medical office where they make you wait outside of the building for your appointment. Fast forward 30 minutes. I walk into the office and sure enough the lady who rudely told me to wait outside was working behind the receptionist! When I walked up the counter Heather notified me that they could not take my insurance. I had a feeling... the funny part is that they still have not called my husband about HIS coverage and he has an appointment tomorrow for a filling. Waiting until the day of someone's appointment to notify them that they don't take your insurance is not only unprofessional, but extremely inconsiderate and shady. I took time off from work to come to this appointment but they have really shown their true colors. I am baffled how this place has such a high rating. They clearly have no respect for others time and sound like they like to rip people off. Also, the first impression I got from this place, aside from the rude staff was that it was dirty! No thanks! This place won't stay in business long, I am sure of that! read more
