I appreciated that samples were available upon request, though the shop wasn't really set up to encourage sampling, and the staff seemed quite busy when I visited. Other cheese shops I have been to have a more welcoming sampling experience. There were also crackers, spreads, chocolate and teas available for sale. I was interested in one of the chocolate and mint teas, and was going to purchase, but it was $15, so a little steep in price for me. I did some crackers and two types of cheese. Haven't tried them yet, but looking forward to giving them a taste. read more

Came here on a Sunday in the early afternoon. They have a great selection of cheeses, meats, crackers, honey, jams, and olive oil. I came in only planning to buy 2 cheeses, but left with three cheeses, crackers, raw honey, meats and cheesecake I opted for the truffle Toma and truffle Gouda and then something picante. All cheese were amazingly delicious! The truffle toma was hands down my favorite. The prices for the cheese and crackers were pretty standard. Same price you would pay at Whole Foods. I thought the meats and honey were a little expensive, but I'm guessing they are higher quality than what you get from the grocery store. Also, the honey was in its purest state. I've only had honey that fresh one other time. You can really taste the differences so it's worth it. And It's a boutique shop, so I expected to pay a little more. Minus one star for the staff. Didn't greet me when I walked in and didn't ask if I needed any help. I would have loved some suggestions and guidance on buying cheeses to fit my taste. I asked if the cakes in the refrigerator were cheesecake and she responded "I think so" (not very helpful). I've seen in other reviews the staff was very helpful, but not when I went in. Stopped by on our way to wine tasting and I have to say this is a must visit if you like cheese. They have so many varieties of cheese, cured meats, crackers and chocolate for the perfect picnic. Staff were very helpful in recommending soft cheeses- which of course there are a ton of varieties to choose from. We ended up getting triple cream brie, cheddar, onion crackers, cheese crackers, chocolate and candied pecans. The crackers that are made from just cheese are a must try. I love that there's an option for people who want to eat cheese on their cheese like me. These crackers were tasty to just eat on their own. I also discovered vegan salami while here-essentially fig dried and seasoned with various things. Very interesting and unique addition to a charcuterie board. This little closet of a shop has some fantastic gourmet stuff. Salume, crackers, and cheese cheese galore! They have very knowledgeable staff, and they help you decide what cheeses complement what wine or meats. They even have some good looking sweets too. Everything you need for a classy cocktail hour is right here. They have a fabulous secret garden of a outside area too. I've been coming here for years. I remember when they were a tiny shop in the very back and now they're in a slightly bigger shop out in front. Their selection has always been incredible. Up to now their customer service has always been spectacular. But today was enough to turn me off from them forever. I'm from Cameron Park and can get all the cheeses we really enjoy from forklift but always go there to support them while I'm doing my main Street shopping. Today we were greeted by a older woman with gray hair. At first she was very friendly. We picked out our favorite goat cheese some crackers we liked and looked for petite Basque. We didn't see it so we asked her if she had some. She responded I have a whole block! We told her we just wanted a little bit. She said she could cut it anyway we liked. We asked for one quarter of the block. This is when things got very uncomfortable and awkward. She asked if we were sure we only wanted a quarter four times and kept commenting how small it was. We just wanted a small snack of two different cheeses and crackers. We've gone in there and spent over $100 multiple times. I still wanted to get my favorite ski Queen goat cheese. A Norwegian staple I love. But I wasn't about to ask this woman for anything else. I should have just left without her making it so horribly uncomfortable and not bought anything. I won't be back. I'll just get my cheese from the grocery store with a great selection nonetheless. I usually just like to support a smaller business like this but not at the expense of dealing with the used car sales woman of cheese. read more

And being that they have a large selection of cheeses most of which I never heard of, they also have an array of various olive oils, pickled things and emu eggs. I don't what it is about cheese shops. I love them, usually, most of the time. There are a few that I won't return too (ie; too touristy) and while there are tourist types on Main St in Placerville, Dedrick's is not one to avoid. Dedrick's recently moved from the tiny spot tucked in on the way to the courtyard area to Main St store front access. With that move came more space. More space means more stuff. I'm torn ... I really liked the quaint cramped Dedrick's but understand the move. More crackers, more spreads, more breads, more creams, more jars, more ... stuff. Most of the cheese(s) are in small packages .. just enough (in amount and money). Good cheese can get pricey. If you're headed through Placerville and want some picnic snacks, Dedrick's a good stop - park in the parking garage. read more

This place is fantastic! Lots of hidden gems here I doubt you could find anywhere else save for online. Good prices for really unique cheeses, jams, teas, and more. The shop is small but jam packed with lots of cool stuff! I loved every second in there and wish I bought out everything! Never went to the shop itself...but the incredibly wonderful Boeger winery in Placerville had a case full of cheese from them with incredible Ines Rosales crackers from Spain. Had a Welsh cheese infused with herbs and Manchego crackers. Heaven is not someplace you go when you leave this earth, it is here right now. Am going to head up to Dedricks as soon as I can to experience the finer things in life. Also bought some cheese to take home, would love to share the name of it, but sadly did not save the wrapper. We love this shop. It is the best cheese shop this side of the Atlantic. I used to travel to London often and went to Neal's Yard Dairy when I was there. This is the closest to that I have found in the US. I recently tried a Boschetto al Tartufo recommended by the cheese monger and described as the "crack" of cheese. It is fantastic. I dream about it... I want to stop on my way home every day and buy more... If you like truffles, this is mixed throughout with shavings of rare white truffles which builds character in the cheese by providing rustic and earthy undertones in the flavor. Boschetto al Tartufo is a fresh, semi-soft cheese made from a combination of a cow's and sheep's milk. It is infused with shavings of highly-prized rare white truffles that lend an earthy, luxurious and robust aroma and flavour to the cheese. The cheese is a perfect marriage of the pungent taste of the kingly fungus and delicate, sweet taste of the paste. Walked in on a whim coming home from Tahoe, I was immediately coerced, HAHA Just kidding, but easily persuaded to purchase almost everything I came in contact with. Though I didn't really know what I was looking for, the cashier ended up helping me select cheeses that she thought would go well with the wine at the specific vineyard I went to. Dedrick's caught my attention while window shopping through historic Placerville and immediately went in to sample their wares, as I am a slave to cheesy comestibles. The girl behind the counter was a total sweetheart, busted out several containers of cheese for us to taste (and offered even more, and also volunteered to carve us sample slices of salami) and was knowledgeable about everything we tried. After all the yummy samples we browsed around. Their shop may be small but it is packed with all kinds of gourmet goodies: meat, jerky, pasta, sauces, condiments, snacks, cookies, chocolates, just tons of good finds. I discovered a sweet and spicy jerky that apparently comes from a company in Midtown Sacramento... I LIVE in Midtown and hadn't heard of it! I usually get hard to find cheese from the cheese-monger at Nugget. This is spot would be my go-to if I lived close by. I was offered a sample of one of their salame. I asked to try their best seller - the Mole salami. Now, I haven't met a salami I didn't like. But, I prefer my salami to be un-molested, although I do like a spicy one on occasion. Upon first taste, I was taken a back by the chocolate-y note, just like a good mole sauce. Let's just say, I hope they keep on playing with their salame! YUM! read more

I just moved to Placerville, and I found out about this store from -- where else -- Yelp. I called them up on a Sunday (of a holiday weekend) to see if they were open. The girl who answered told me that they were closing in 5 minutes, but would stay open a few extra minutes for me. Now *that* is small town, old-fashioned service! I rushed over, and although I didn't have time to browse as fully as I would have liked (they didn't rush me, but I felt bad for keeping them there after closing), I was impressed with what I did find. I purchased some bucheron at $15.50/lb, some Iberico at $16.50/lb, and a lovely chevrot at $11.99 for 200 grams. The prices were comparable with any specialty cheese shop I've been to. It looked like they had a pretty decent selection of cheeses, as well as some breads, desserts (e.g. flourless chocolate torte, basque cake, truffles, etc.), olives, and other various goodies. If you love cheese, this is the place to go!! My family shops both at the Placerville store and the South Lake Tahoe Farmer's Market on Tuesdays. They have an incredible amount of cheeses and cheese related items that I'm not sure I could ever try all of them! I love the unique crackers and salames they sell. After eating at Z Pie, we headed over to Dedrick's Main Street Cheese and started out with some delicious samples. They had alot of different cheeses that all varied! The Big Cow in the front was pretty cute, and the decor was very euro cheese shop. We ended up walking out with Humboldt Fog and then a cheese rubbed in espresso (my husband loved this even though he doesn't enjoy coffee). This small store carries more than cheese. Great breads from local bakeries, pastries, decent selection of olive oils and condiments are all available. We bought Pecerino, fresh sheep's milk made in Italy - a smooth semi-solid cheese with some texture, and Tevoliere, a cow and sheep's milk cheese also from Italy - a sharp, smooth and solid cheese. Both cheese were very good. The best find: Sweet Onion and Creme Fraiche Sourdough Flatbread from Rustic Bakery, made using only organic grains and seeds. Rustic Bakery makes its breads by hand in Larkspur. Recommended cheese pairing: triple cream brie, washed rind brie, aged Swiss Gruyere. We also bought loaves of bread from Andrae's Bakery (Amador City) - my favorite is the cranberry walnut sourdough. Another good choice is blue cheese walnut. The store is nestled in a courtyard - not immediately visible from Main Street, but an employee was handing out free samples in front making it easier to locate.
