We were attempting to go to the EMERGENCY animal hospital that's connected to this building while actively doing cpr on our cat we walked inside and this lady who looks like a female trump just stared at us until I said we called everywhere *because we had called multiple places before leaving and on the drive to see if anything was closer* Plains was 15 minutes from us and her response WHILE I WAS DOING CPR was well if you would have called US you'd have known it's that building over there and pointed to the next building over. Making an already traumatic incident 10x worse. ABSOLUTELY INSANE behavior by this lady. Her hair was bleached to the point it was going to fall out and her skin was orange. Best description i have for her. I didn't stay to catch her name before I told her next time you LEAD with vital information you don't SCOLD someone on going to the animal hospital instead of the emergency animal hospital CONNECTED TO YOU. ABSOLUTELY traumatizing. And our cat did pass. And we had to pay 400 for 30 seconds of cpr It was initiated and stopped moments later when they informed us there was no heartbeat. 100 for each medication given there were 3 and than we had to PAY TO RELEASE THE BODY and PAY for a body bag so 600 dollars just for them to tell us yupp he's dead and CHARGE us to give us the body back. FUCK THESE VETS. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS THEY ARE FOR PROFIT. Called today this morning after 8 asking about an appointment for my dog who's experiencing allergy symptoms. Receptionist didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I said I'm previously from out of town and am trying to call vets in the area for an appointment to take him in to get checked out. Kept asking for a vet referral. Like I said, my vet is out of town. She said that they don't do emergency care (even though it says right on the website they do as in screenshot attached) but what I wanted was an appointment made to get him seen. She wasn't listening to what I was saying and said they don't take animals for emergency care they only take established patients. It says right on website that new patients are welcome. Again, as in screenshot. Don't have that on your site if it's not true. Also don't say you do emergency care if you don't. She also hung up on me before the conversation was done. Well, no matter, Back Mountain Veterinary will now get my services. They took the same information and were happy to get records from my out of town vet, didn't seem to care about that at all. Also were very courteous and made a same day appointment for my dog. So, my baby went to see them today instead. read more

We were here and told to just call if we had any issues or questions after we left... we'll they wouldn't answer our questions on a call and wanted us to come back in for another $300 ! (Just to walk in for an antibiotic!!)) Never be back again to this hospital!!! Plus the wanted to put down my cat who turned out fine with some complications... Dr Damcot is a very caring vet. She really seems to care about her patients. Never received nothing but quality care from her.

We used this hospital on Friday night for an emergency visit for our dog. We knew prior to arriving we would need to euthanize our sweet Chloe. Everyone these was respectful, courteous and compassionate. We received prompt service and Chloe was treated as if she was everyone's beloved pet. Considering it was after hours and our regular vet was not open - and this was an emergency visit - I did not feel we were taken advantage of for the cost of our visit. read more

I had a great experience here! I'm surprised the reviews are low. My dog had an ear infection and was in pain. My old vet told me they couldn't see her for over a month. I called Plains, and they fit her in the next day. I still go here now for her routine stuff. The vets and staff are all great. read more

I would definitely say this place is a bit pricy, but I personally don't care about the price considering I care more about my pets. I was able to go to the emergency room and get my cat checked at 3am, the front desk lady there was nice and the people who helped were also relatively nice. It did take a bit to get some stuff done but it is good that there is a 24 hour animal hospital around these smaller towns. I usually go to the animal hospital in the front for checkups for my babies. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. Yes they are ridiculously expensive as has been referenced in other reviews but the most important thing is that they are grossly incompetent. That applies to their front desk staff to their techs and "veterinarians". Heidi their practice manager lied to my whole family over speaker phone leaving us all shaking our heads wondering if it's just incompetence or if it's a culture of CYA, neglect and mismanagement that's endemic through out the organization. They are not affiliated with the northeast vet referral hospital next door so this review does not apply to them. I know nothing about them but just don't want anyone confused about the facility this applies too. They hurt our pet without blinking an eye. I will leave it at that. I can not urge anyone reading this strongly enough to seek treatment for their pet elsewhere. read more

Stay away from Plains animal hospital. They were supposed to be a great place with great experienced people working there. The only experience person that I spoke to was Dr. Ambrose. This doctor should have her own practice because she is a wonderful doctor. Most of the people were nice to me but the short , stocky, woman with short black hair was nasty!!! They mutilate it my little cat so bad she was still bleeding on her belly when I picked her up. From a procedure involving sedation while shaving your cat. The cost of this procedure was a pricey $180. Stay away! read more

I love this place. Last year, one of the feral cats who my good friend feeds had his leg caught in a fox trap. My friend was taking him to a vet near her in Sugarloaf, but they were just rewrapping all of the dead tissue on his leg that would never heal and were doing more harm than good, prolonging his suffering for almost six weeks with only more dead tissue taking over his leg. I took him to Plains and the staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and supportive. The poor guy ended up needing an amputation, but he has since healed beautifully and is happy, healthy, and full of love. I can't thank Plains enough for saving his life! They did everything they could to get his surgery scheduled as soon as possible to stop his suffering. I am eternally grateful! My Stubbs means the world to me and I would 100% recommend this practice to anyone who loves their fur baby. They were clean, affordable (they worked with me and charged much less than any of the other vets that I called in the area), and answered all one million of my questions. I couldn't have asked for anything better. read more

Expect to be charged exorbitant prices for any and all procedures for your pet, admittedly 30%+ more than other local clinics. Put away that checkbook, too, because in the interest of being as anti-consumer and frustrating as possible, they no longer accept personal checks. Once you get past that barrage of stupidity, you will be placed in a room where you will wait for updates on your pet. They will be few and far between. You may want to bring a voice recorder because the vet tends to explain what's wrong with your pet and how to treat it at a rate of 1000 words per minute. The place is clearly understaffed if the vets have to run around like lunatics and don't have time to properly explain procedures to patients. The gist is this place only cares about your wallet, not your pet. Look elsewhere or be faced with exorbitant prices and mediocre care. read more

I have found that they over-charge for services, and over-prescribe medication. I took my new rescue puppy there for mites. He didn't have a single open sore or scratch on him, just small bald patches, and they prescribed antibiotics which made him sick. Turns out antibiotics DO NOTHING for mites which are common in stressed puppies and resolve on their own as the dog matures. I took my other dog to have 3 stitches removed. The cut was completely healed, no redness or swelling (I'm not even sure he needed stitches to be honest) and they tried to send me home with a 10 day supply of antibiotics! For what?? Beware that they make you feel like a horrible pet owner if you don't want to unnecessarily medicate your pet. Oh and that sign in the waiting room about if you've waited 30 minutes let them know - I've always waited for more than that. read more

The staff found an immediate opening to see my dog when he was injured. When his injury required specialized attention they immediately worked with the orthopedic specialist in the adjoining building. They saw him the same day and he was in for surgery the following day. I can't thank the doctors and nurses enough. The fees were well worth the advice and service. For those who say they perform unnecessary tasks, all I can say is they gave me a refund when it was determined the treatment required would not be as severe. read more

When I was , my told she needed to be seen by Allentown cardiologist my dog Keela was packed in an oxygen filled crate for trip. I will never take another animal to this facility again. As soon as you go in they charge your credit card $250. They then evaluated my pet and stated needed an $1800 surgery immediately. Played on my children being there! It was sickening!!!! Can't believe they can do that to children. Brought animal home and regular vet charged $350. Still had to pay them the $250. They should be closed by the Better Business Bureau. I wish another place would open up at the NORMAL prices and put this place out of business. They deserve it! read more

I am new in the area and had been looking for a vet. Two friends of mine went to Plains Animal Hospital in an emergency situation with a beautiful sweet dog they had rescued from a parking lot, and had the most awful experience. They were both literally in tears after her visit because they felt so hopeless and unfairly treated. After almost $1000 the dog was no better, very sick, weak, lethargic, her eyes glazed, her joints weak, struggling to stand, unable to eat. The staff were rude, did not give a diagnosis only offered residential care for another $3000 again without actually giving a clear diagnosis. I always like to find a vet by word of mouth and I have to agree with the other 1 star reviews below. A vet may be a business but it should love and have compassion for animals first and foremost - isn't there some kind of oath a vet takes? This beautiful dog came back from the vet, as sick as when she went in, with no clear diagnosis or treatment plan and with ticks embedded in her face. I saw these myself and they were not new ticks from the day after the vet visit, they were clearly embedded and remnants of the body. This poor puppy may not even make it and they could not even remove the ticks from her face. So heartbreaking. I truly hope there are better vets than this in this area. read more

We appreciated the fact that they could squeeze us in before they closed but we went over some things they wanted to do and gave us an estimate of all of these things. $180, we agreed. Our pup came back in the room ready for discharge went to go pay and it was $380?!? Really? Why not just tell us this so we aren't surprised? They said they don't add discharge medication to the estimate. One of the women in the front was bothered that we were asking why it changed so much while the other woman totally understood why we were bothered and suggested we ask for a printed estimate. Needless to say we will be searching for another place to bring our dog. read more
