I absolutely love this place! We came because Trip Advisor told us that it's a good spot to stay if we wanted to go clamming or crabbing. Since our group was only stopping in for a night, we figured clamming was much faster. I checked into the place and asked about clamming. Jessie, the resident clam guy, came out and informed me that low tide about 7:30 AM the next day. He said he could take us out and even would lend us boots, buckets, and shovels. They also let you borrow the crabbing equipment as well. We went into town and grabbed us some shellfish permits. The next day we were up and ready to go clamming. The spot to clam is literally across the street from the motel. It was SO MUCH FUN!!! I would do that again in a heartbeat. Jessie showed us how to catch them and Roland (I think that's his name), came out to show us how to clean them. They were so helpful and nice! We came in to shower and and got a bunch of sand in the room but they seem to be use to that. I left the maid a tip for being so messy. The rooms are comfy and clean and even have a kitchenette. It's nothing fancy but it's was perfect for a short weekend getaway. Love it! Already have plans to come back. :) read more

The room was ok for my needs. However I was charged an extra $250 without my knowledge or a receipt. I only discovered it a month later when I received my credit card bill. Admittedly, it was because of a dog rule violation, but a head's up of the hefty fine and a receipt would have been the professional thing to do, especially after I spoke to the manager the next morning to explain the situation. I will not stay there again and I don't recommend it. The RV part of the facility stinks like sewer too. read more

We went there for 4th of July 2018 and stayed in room 2, The check-in was handled by an extremely welcoming and nice lady. She gave plenty of tips on where to go and places to eat. The room was nice neat and very clean, bedding smelled fresh when I lay down on a super comfy bed. It was so hard to leave because of the great bed and Honest to GOD nice people. We were invited to eat at a potluck 4th of July dinner, so we brought some sweets in return. They then invited us to walk across the street to further enjoy the fireworks show. What a great place, I plan on returning there again and again. They also arrange little day outings to dig clams and such without extra cost. This trip made me and my son fall in love with Oregon! If you want nice,friendly,caring down home people to stay with this is the place. read more

Hotel was as expected for what we saw on Expedia but we did not expect the blood (?) and other stains on the sheets. We ended up both sleeping in the other bed. I think it was just a matter of the previous tenant had an accident in bed, was too embarrassed to say anything to the front desk and remade the bed. The maid needs to check all of the bedding, even if the bed looks undisturbed. I am sorry to give this one star review as I thinks it wasn't anything intentional, just a bit of negligence. read more

Do you like clamming? If yes, then this is a really good place for you, as it is clean, inexpensive, and you can use the motel's clam traps for free and clean your catch at the outdoor sinks in the adjacent RV park. Also, very short walk to the bay. If you want to be in downtown Coos Bay, on the other side of the peninsula, that's about a five or six mile drive. Very nice Bastendorff Beach near Charleston is a short drive the other direction. Rooms were very clean with soft towels, and include set of china, glassware, utensils, a knife, decent sized mini-fridge, stove and standard kitchen sink. Motel is older, but well-kept and nice, caring people running it. Be sure to check the bed, to ensure the mattress is to your liking, as they have about 9 rooms, with different beds. Only problem was the WiFi, which worked only sporadically when I was there. read more

The lady at the office was very nice. The 'remodel' of my room was okay, BUT, the mattresses were so old and decrepit that I ended my trip early because I could not sleep well on the sagging mattress, and They were so bad I could not sit on them either. They were horrible. There was no chair to sit in to watch TV, and the lighting was not good at the bed if you wanted to read a book. Definitely not worth what I paid for the room. There is a reason that they tell you when you sign in, "NO REFUNDS!" Don't stay here! It was very depressing. Never again! Stay in Coos Bay! It is only 6 miles farther and has MUCH better hotels. read more

A wonderful family Motel. Also romantic getaway. Beautiful murals throughout the park. The beach house overlooks the bay. The rooms have been beautiful remodeled, The new managers are charming, they will take you to go clamming on the secret beach across from the Motel. Good value for your money. read more

Great place to stay if you're on a budget and don't need much. We stayed in the one room cabin which had a kitchenette in it. Some items in the cupboards were service for 3 others for 4. We chose to cook several meals and had to have all the windows and the door open to try not to disturb the smoke detector, however we often had to fan it anyway. We had the rollaway bed which was easy to use and store as needed. The beds were clean and comfortable (soft) and the water pressure was nice. We didn't take advantage of all the crabbing/clamming gear but it was available and accessible. Staff were friendly and helpful. If we travel that way again we may consider staying there but it's not worth going out of your way. read more

Sure it's a simple motel, however the rooms are nice and they all have a kitchenette also the whole outside is a beautiful mural of the coast surrounding. It is truethat it is only a one minute walk to a beach through a beautiful forest. They let you borrow their crab pots for free and they're also very knowledgeable of neat places to see in the immediate area. Next time we come to Coosbay we will definitely stay here again. read more

Good price - reserved and stayed multiple nights - close to beaches and pet friendly .... BUT my room looked nothing like the pics. I was a single traveler with a smallish dog and may have gotten the 1 room that had not been refurbished. It was bare basic room with an okay bed, small bathroom with shower and a small clean but bare bones kitchen. Staff was courteous, info on where to go was a nice touch. Walls are (as stated below) paper thin, but I'm a good sleeper. For a one night stay I'd do this again but not If I was staying longer. read more

When I first arrived I thought 'hell no, I'm not staying here' but knew I didn't have a choice. It turned out not to be quite so bad but I wouldn't stay there again. The good....office people were nice and it did appear to be clean. The bad...overall appearance. Beds very uncomfortable, no air conditioning or fan so you have to open windows and the trash dumpster is close to the rooms and smells very bad so if you want to be cool you have to smell it. The highway outside is very noisy. Skip this place. read more

We loved this little hidden gem on the 540. We stayed in the cabin for 3 nights and it was super cozy. The staff and residents at the RV park are super friendly and helpful if asked otherwise they leave you alone. The manager took us out clamming in the bay across the street one day , and set us up with crabbing gear and directions to a great little spot the next day. Everything was very clean and the kitchenette had everything we needed to cook meals. Definitely will stay here again! read more

This motel was horrible! The price was too steep for such a gross place. The doorway to the room smelled horribly like cat urine. People stood outside their rooms and smoked and the smoke/smell drifted into our room, there is no AC/fans and the rooms were hot/stuffy and smelly! We didn't feel safe opening the old metal windows. They claim they have free wi-fi but we could never connect...there is no DVD player and the RV park and neighborhood was downright scary! Motel is very close to a busy/noisy highway. DO NOT waste your money!! read more

If you are a beginner and want to learn how to go crabbing and clamming this is the place to stay. The employees were very friendly and helpful. They had all the equipment for us to borrow for free. On top of that the manager found knowledgeable people to take us out to the beach and teach us how to dig for clams. They told us what we needed and the perfect time to go crabbing and clamming. They even helped us prepare and cook our catch that we caught earlier in the day. The house we stayed at was everything we needed. Comfortable beds, a kitchen with all the cooking utensils and a shower. I would definitely comeback when I am in the area. read more

My family and I arrived this evening. I called ahead of time. The gentleman who answered the phone was nice and answered all of my questions. Even when I had to call back..two times! When we arrived the woman that works the front desk was so kind and super friendly. She is very knowledgeable about the area and what is offered. Her kindness was a nice change! The room is super clean and smelled like vanilla. The sheets were crisp and very clean. I was thrilled to see that I could cook for my children in a motel! Lovely! I highly recommend Plainview Motel to anyone looking for a peaceful stay that is a stone's throw from the docks and ocean! read more
