I am a huge fan of Greek food and, as a result, am extremely nit-picky. This place has everything going for it...on the menu today for our table were gyro wraps, saganaki, lentils, meatballs, spinokopita, and mousaka. It was all absolutely divine. I was a little disappointed with the saganaki, as I'm used to the flaming hunk of cheese coming to the table, and the resulting lemon flavor when they extinguish the flames-this was just strips of cheese on a plate, but still tasted really good. So pleasantly surprised! Had low expectations since Georgetown food can be hit or miss but ended up really enjoying my meal. Gyro was delicious -- meat had a great texture and a nice flavor. Felt thoughtfully constructed -- fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes and cucumbers, tasty pita wrap with a good texture. Tried a few sides too: beef dolmas were big and delicious and falafel was moist (came as a flat pancake). Their version of baklava wasn't my favorite but I was so pleased with my food, it didn't matter. Reasonable prices. Convenient drive-through. Friendly and fast service. I really wanted to love the food since the lady in the parking lot hyped up the place. The employees were very kind and friendly. It smelled good inside, but it's kind of like a cafeteria. I got the combo plate and my chicken was really dry. I also was expecting the Greek meatball to be more like a keftede with a lamb beef mix, but it tasted more like an Italian meatball to me. It was also in a sweet tomato sauce. It was good, but it didn't taste Greek to me. The lamb/beef gyro meat was fine and the pita tasted fresh and hot. The spanakopita tasted like it was sitting for a while. The Greek salad dressing didn't taste like a Greek dressing either. It's just not what I'm used to when I think of Greek food. Love the gyro wrap and taziki. We've ordered pick up and done the drive-thru several different times. They're quick, the order is right, and the food quality is good. Bean soup and rice was also good. I'm not a fan of their baclava, very little filo in it, mostly dense nuts not many layers. But that might be exactly how some people prefer it. read more

Let me preface this review with, my family and I have been regulars for many years with Plaka until a couple of days ago. We have recommended this restaurant to friends and family. My husband is a cancer survivor and was disfigured from the surgery to remove the cancer which makes it difficult for him to speak clearly. My experience, is most people are kind and patient with him. However, one of the employees publicly humiliated my husband for his speech challenges. My husband ordered the lamb shank. He stated it twice. The man fixed him a completely different dish he didn't ask for. When my husband and I informed it was not what he ordered, he became biligerent and stated my husband said number 6, which he didn't. He refused to provide the correct dish of lamb shank my husband requested and told us the food was already plated and we were stuck with it. We had not even paid for our meals, yet. My husband was the better person and said fine. He would eat what he was given verses what he ordered. I wanted to walk out and find somewhere else to eat. Never have I experienced someone degrading my husband for his physical challenges ever. No one could ever pay me enough to ever go back! read more

Over a decade ago, the best Greek restaurant in Austin left Colorado Street and moved to Georgetown. It's odd to think that the best Greek food in the region isn't in a major city but in it's 'burbs. The properly prepared ethnic dishes are served cafeteria style and are all as good as you'll find anywhere in America. They have daily specials like Lamb Shanks. Living in Dallas I've been to some great Mediterranean and Greek restaurants and this one was just okay. It is a buffet style restaurant and servers serve you your meal on a plate so you can come in quickly grab a plate and be out in 15-30 mins. I ordered the combination plate which came with pita and we dined in. I just didn't like the food it didn't taste flavorful or fresh. The meatballs tasted like they were frozen and the chicken was extremely extremely dry. We had to cover the chicken with tzaziki sauce in order to eat it without choking. The spinach pie wasn't bad and the pita was delicious. It was so fresh and it redeemed the whole meal. As soon as you walk in everything looks so outdated like the restaurant is stuck in the 90s. It's not bad but it just seems odd for a busy buffet style restaurant. I feel like the owners need to invest in the restaurant and update the place especially the bathrooms. I hope this place can get a little TLC, revise its menu and upgrade the place and it would be a great place to dine at. read more

This is a small and simple restaurant by i35. The food is very authentic and the portions are simple huge! The staff was very helpful to explain all the options and help us understand what each dish consists of. My chicken was moist, the hummus was fresh and had good texture. This place has some delicious Greek food. I first discovered Plaka when looking up restaurants midway between Austin & Temple! Since then I have been here at least 3 times with each visit being better than the last. I have consistently ordered (and loved) their gyro plate, which is lamb & beef served with feta salad, rice pilaf, Greek-style meatballs, and tzatziki. The meat is so tender and flavorful, and all of the included side dishes make it such a filling meal. Their prices are also very fair! After reporting to jury duty then told to call back on Tuesday, decide to have lunch in Georgetown. Searching Yelp, I came to the conclusion there isn't too many options. Then I spotted greek food, yum. Hit Yelp button for directions and I was on my way. It was right off 35 and easy to find. It was early but there was a short line already. I joined at the end of it and read the menu. When it was my turn, I got the make your own plate with chicken, spanakopita, dolma. It comes with a salad and naan. Waited while they cut the chicken off the spit and my plate was given to me. Found a table near the door. Dug into the salad first, very good. Vegetables were fresh and dressing wasn't overpowering. Next I tried the chicken and lucked out. I got some "Burnt Ends" love those pieces as the favor intensifies. Extremely tasty. The spanakopita was loaded with spinach. And the dolma, let me tell you, huge. You know they usually come with the diameter of your finger, this one was 3 fingers round, huge. I had to go up to the counter to get a to go box. I used to like this place quite a bit. It was never GREAT, but totally decent Greek food that felt like an awesome option for healthy fast food. Recently things have changed. I get that prices are higher...they are everywhere, but the food quality has TANKED along with the price hike. Customer service has also gone downhill. I'm sad, but I won't be back. There are better fresh options in Georgetown. Today I ordered my usual chicken salad. I had one cucumber, 2 tomato slices and zero red onion. The entire salad was bagged American blend (iceberg with carrot shreds). I had 5 (FIVE!!!!) iceberg stems thrown in the mix as well. The chicken included large pieces of nothing but fat. I was grossed out. This is the second time in a couple of weeks I have had this salad served like this (iceberg stems, no veggies and fat). I thought the first time was a fluke but I guess not. For $14 I expect more than $1 worth of crap lettuce with weird fatty meat on top. read more
