Authentic, it is not. I have frequented this place for nearly a decade. It has been 6-8 months since I have eaten there. The original owner, brought his crew from Houston to open this establishment. He trained his crew to cook with Greek seasoning. We ate the restaurant on November 14. The Dalmata were changed to using Mexican spices. The spanakopita, where is the feta cheese? I feel sorry for all the newcomers who are not familiar with Greek cuisine. It is a shame that they are going to think they are eating authentic Greek food. Beware; it is not. I will not be returning. Shame, shame, shame, I definitely will not be back nor will I recommend this place any longer. I gave them a one star. Sorry no photo- this place is solid on point Greek food. The place is clean and the service down the order line was quick. A good sign as far as I'm concerned the place was packed with state troopers. Road warriors know where to go! I got the gyro wrap it was huge. My wife got the gyro plate with plenty of food. Plaka Greek Cafe is a Jewel. Some of the freshest and most delicious food to be found in Georgetown. This place flies under the radar but it is my go-to choice for take-out food. Even if you aren't familiar with Greek cuisine, think you might not like it, believe me, you will. There is something for everybody here including Vegan options. After spending several weeks in Greece island hopping this summer it's nice to have a meal from Plaka that takes me right back there. read more

What a great find. Very nice, helpful staff. The food is ready to go ... just grab a tray and start ordering up front. I had the gyro plate ... good flavor. The pita was so soft and thick. The tzatziki sauce could have had a little more cucumbers and herbs. It came with a side salad or soup. I choose the Lemon Chicken soup. It was a flavor I had not had before ... lots of chicken, orzo, carrots and the lemon added a brightness. However, the baklava was the highlight - amazing!!!! read more

Awesome and authentic, my favorite choice for Greek food, I love this place. If there's one thing the Greek's know, it's the restaurant business. They know how to cook good food and turn that into a successful venture. This is authentic Greek cuisine made by the real Sparta, someone from Greece. And you can tell in the taste and quality of the food. It's a favorite lunch spot for us, I love the Plaka Chicken Salad - comes w/ shaved chicken from their skewers. Sometimes I'll ask to mix it w/ the gyro meat - - no problem! There is always so much meat, the portions are plentiful. The Combination Plate is around $8 gives you a sample of 3 different meats, salad, rice pilaf, and a spinach pie. That's practically lunch and dinner if you followed today's portion-sizing rules. I was floored by their dessert selection. The baklava is always good, that's everywhere, but they've got desserts I haven't seen since my college days spent hanging out w/ my Cypriot friends: Galaktoboureko! Just think of it as the Greek version of Flan, it's so good and tasty. Also Rizogalo is a Greek pudding w/ cinnamon, and Loukoumades are like mini doughnuts dipped in honey and syrup w/ powdered sugar, served only Friday and Saturday nights. So good! The owner and his wife are always so very nice and generous. They always say "hi" and greet everyone with a smile. They just want to feed you good food and makes sure you leave happy and full - - which is what happens to me on every visit. I have only ever tried the falafel wrap here, and it's the only thing I ever get now each time I have returned! They are judicious with the amount of food they fit into one wrap. Their falafel is extremely flavorful and just the right consistency - not too soft and not too crispy. Highly recommend! While the service was very friendly the food was average. I asked for the rice pilaf substitute with the chicken plate I ordered. Instead it was these yellowish mashed potatoes that they serve with it. I had the combo plate and I found the gyro to be thinner than I like. However, the portion were a nice size and the meatballs are really good. I will give it another try and maybe go elsewhere on the menu.
