We are regular and frequent diners a Plaka Greek Cafe. The generous helpings of food are always fresh and full of flavor. The quality of the food is outstanding and is true to it's cultural origin. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful. They have offered us samples of various dishes and helped us select from the diverse menu. I love the gyro plate, the meatballs and rice, the felafel, and the lemon soup is awesome! This is one of very few restaurants I enjoy such a wide selection of their menu! Due to Covid we stopped going to restaurants. We still wanted to support our locally owned businesses, so we are happy to have drive up food pickup. We really like the Gyros sandwiches and their lemon soup. These choices travel well, so they are just as good at home. They put cucumbers on their gyros, so I prefer them on the side, because it cools the sandwich down too much for me. Food is concisely good and we order from them any time we hunger for Greek. Check out their desserts, too. The outside of the restaurant is not impressive looking, and inside is cafeteria type ordering, but it is conveniently located near the interstate 35. I've been dining here for years and it used to have the best gyros around. When I suggested going again my wife said last time she went it was not good. Decided to try and see for myself and sure enough it has gone down the drain. Ownership seems to have changed. The gyros were flavorless and seemed old. The lentil soup tasted like it was canned. I've been wanting to try this place for a while since it gets such great reviews here. I finally did, and I definitely wasn't disappointed! I tried the combo plate, which had a meatball, chicken shawarma, and gyro meat. All of it was delicious, but I especially liked the delicious tomato sauce that came on the meatball and rice. The small Greek salad that came with the plate was just the right size, and it had plenty of olives. It's a shame I waited so long to try this place because it's really good! So I went back again on Saturday night because I had to try the special: braised lamb shank with orzo pasta. WOW. The knife was really a formality as the meat just fell off the bone! My boyfriend and I stopped here one afternoon while exploring Georgetown. We originally stopped here because of it's great reviews on Yelp and we were both pleasantly surprised! The feta salad with chicken on top tasted like I was back at a cafe in Mykonos. They gave me a big pita that I put a bunch of the salad and chicken into, as well as the tzaziki sauce. We visited here pre-COVID after seeing the reviews and were intrigued. I have to say I'm a little disappointed! Besides being pricey, the food was generic greek and didn't stand out above the rest. It was just ok. I went for the Greek staple and ordered the Gyro plate. It was supposed to have a Gyro with pilaf, feta salad and a meatball. The Gyro itself was nothing special, just Gyro and a warmed up (couldn't tell if it was homemade or not) pita. I did not get a meatball because they didn't have any more. The pilaf was really nothing more than rice, less vegetables and made up the majority of my dish. The Tzatiki on the other hand was amazing. Fresh and tasty. I did also get some Baklava for a dessert. It also was just ok. Again, not special enough for me to want to come back. The place itself was a little aged and obvious it was a converted fast food joint. However, it was a little on the dingy side with semi-sticky tables and everything was served on paper plates with plastic utensils which wasn't a huge deal. As for the owners, they were extremely nice and talkative. But still not enough to make me want to revisit. Authentic, sort of. Value, not so much. At the end of the day it's bang for buck. Oh my gosh, was this place delicious! My husband, Kris, and I stopped by here this past Saturday, after walking around the street fair in Georgetown. After a couple hours in the oppressive heat, we were properly hungry, to say the least. Kris wanted a gyro, and Plaka was the first and closest place to come up that filled that desire. After having some really lackluster and frankly terrible falafel at the last Greek restaurant we visited (Zorba), I was a little gun shy about trying yet another Greek place for falafel, but boy was I not let down! Kris had a chicken gyro with a salad, which he thoroughly enjoyed and finished eating in what seemed like the blink of an eye. I ordered a combo plate with falafel instead of meat, a veggie dolma, lima beans, and was overjoyed to see they had imam biyaldi, so I had that, too. I was offered soup or salad and chose their lentil soup, which was phenomenal, as all Greek lentil soup seems to be. Everything on my plate was incredibly tasty and I truly scarfed it all up faster than I should have because it was so good. I genuinely considered ordering more food to go, and I likely would have (despite us being on a stricter dine out budget lately) had we not had multiple errands to run before heading home. Seriously, it was THAT good I was willing to break my budget for it. My only minor complaint is that I was only given 1 falafel. This doesn't seem commensurate with the amount of meat I'd've been given if I ate meat, and it made the nearly $12 price tag of my plate sting a little more, but still the food was so good that I quickly forgot this irritation. I desperately wish we lived closer to Plaka, because I've genuinely been thinking about the fantastic imam biyaldi since we left...it's some of the best I've had ever! My wallet, on the other hand, is probably happy that it's a 25min drive from the house, lol. Don't miss this place if you're in Georgetown. It doesn't look like much, and the cafeteria style service might make it seem a little low brow, but don't let the appearance fool you--the food is legitimate and legitimately delicious! read more

This place is an absolute gem. My husband and I used to have Greek food all the time when we lived in California; we had a few favorite spots. We were sad to leave those places when we moved, but now that we've found Plaka, we don't miss the paces we used to go at all! The dining area is very comfortable and clean. The restaurant has such a welcoming feeling to it. You feel like you belong when you walk in. The service we received was just wonderful. You could tell the guy working the counter very much enjoyed his job. The food was absolutely delicious. I had a gyro salad, and my husband had a gyro wrap. Ok first of all the Gyros are delicious and the service is fast and it's employees, especially at the drive through are super personable and cool. Everything I've had here has been perfect...EXCEPT the Falafels!!!!! They are the worst I've had anywhere! I've had Greek,Israeli Arab, African/Egyptian, mine, and more but this place falls so short. They are consistently mushy, almost the consistency of thick mashed potatoes. No crisp to them whatsoever and they are never hot, if any they are luke warm. But the very worst thing about these falafels are there is NO flavor to them!. Zero, zilch, Nada!!! Go for the Gyros, Stay away for the Falafels! The food is pretty good but I've had an issue with them twice. The first time, they handed me the receipt to sign and my credit card wasn't in it. When I told the cashier at the window, he told me that it was and didn't believe me! I insisted that my credit card was NOT in it when he handed it to me and so he finally started looking inside the restaurant and found it on the floor. The 2nd issue I had was when I ordered 3 entrees and 3 orders of baklava. The cashier handed me our food all tied up. When we made it home with the food, there was no baklava! We paid $2.99 for each of them for a total of $8.97and received nothing for it! read more

It was all mush and I'm willing to bet they used canned beans instead of dry. There was no tahini sauce and a lot of yougart. My better half had the #12 vegetarian dish that was just ok. Plaka looks sketchy - ok now that we have that out of the way : Wow-way to go on the Greek food! The food is good as you can get for fast Greek around the Georgetown area. It is not a hipster hang out or a trendy new millenial spot so that is a plus also. You can go in, get food, eat, and not be bombarded with snobbery. Didn't want to drive down to Austin so we tried this place. Would rather have made the trip into Austin. The salad was ok, but would have been great if they chopped the veggies. Large cuts of lettuce, 2 SLICES of tomato, and large chunks of cucumber doesn't cut it for me esp coming from a restaurant and not a fast food place. The dressing was very runny as well. The gyro was a decent size and I was excited...but then the meat looked and tasted like it came from sams club or something. No flavor, not hot, and once again large cuts of veggies that tore through the pita. I'm glad I didn't pay almost $4 for a piece of baklava...I definitely would have made the trip to complain had it fell short like the food did. Also, it would be better to have a menu available at the drive through. Not everyone is familiar with the place to know the menu and portion sizes. read more
