I love Plan Bee Farm Brewery! We drove up to the brewery and were immediately struck by the beautiful surroundings. This definitely had more of a winery vibe but sold interesting beers. We tried all 8 beers they had on tap that day...they offer tastes of each beer for free, and then half pours are $5...all in all, super reasonable. The beers were all light and flavorful, there will certainly be something for everyone in your group. Upon receiving our beer, we went to sit outside and listen to the live entertainment. The man singing and playing the guitar and keyboard had a fun personality and clearly wrote many of his songs. This ever-talented man, after one of his songs, thanked us for coming out and shared that he is the owner of the farm and brewery and that we were experiencing the fruits of 13 years of work by him and his wife. How incredible! Not only is this a beautiful story of a family living the dream, it also made me want to return and spend more time there. There are plenty of chairs and picnic tables to sit at while enjoying your beverages and the music, but we saw an older couple bring their own chairs, which we thought was a good idea. In addition to the by-owner music, they have a variety of board games available to play, along with several bags sets. It's also a dog-friendly spot. Plan Bee is such a great spot. This summer I tried their pepper beer, and it's SO GOOD! It's like pepper jam without the sugar. It's perfect with a charcuterie board. They have beautiful land with chairs available, and they encourage picnicking and bringing your own food to enjoy with their beer. It's all locally sourced on their own land and the bar is in a 200 year old barn. It's beautiful. They even have their own bees! It's family owned and run, by a couple who are super laid back and fun and know what they're doing. Can't recommend it enough. read more

Wow, I cannot say enough good things about this brewery! The owners are friendly and passionate about their farm brewery. Everything in their beers is from New York State and many from the actual property, including items from their garden go into the various beers. Each Beer has a unique flavor and is seasonal based on local ingredients, which is awesome. You don't even feel like you are in Poughkeepsie because this serene and secluded location out in the woods is amazing and only about a mile from the downtown area. On the weekends, they have awesome live music and different food vendors that come-I was there when they had a pizza company making fresh pizza, which was delicious. A good friend of mine who doesn't like beer at all loved many of their fruit forward flavors. You can see the chickens on the farm as well as their goats if you go during the right time. It's absolutely worth the trip to this brewery and I plan to go back many times in the future! They sell most of their beers in bottles to go as well, so you can take it with you. This was one of my favorite breweries from my New York trip. I love breweries on a farm. The quality is just *different*. Plan Bee does a lot of barn beers and spontaneous ales. Of the two, I prefer the barn beers. They have inside seating or outside with a few picnic tables or under a roofed area with a pizza oven pop up. The AC was broken so we couldn't sit inside (it was wayyyy too hot of a day). We tried sitting under the roofed area but the oven was too hot so we sat at the picnic tables near the house. For barn beers, I tried Pickle and Beltane. These are my favorites of the visit. Pickle beer is one of my favorite crazy beer flavors and this was PERFECT. It was mellow, not in your face of a punch. It was so crushable. The owners told me runners will come through and gulp one to refresh before continuing their run. I can totally see why, it tastes and feels so refreshing on a warm day. Beltane is more fruity and a little funky. It's a complex flavor that keeps you guessing what it is. For the Spontaneous Ales, I tried the cherry and apricot versions. Apricot was my favorite of the two. Cherry was a little too tart for me. I prefer funky over tart. Apricot was slightly tart and sweet. Overall, would go back again. read more

What a great place! The taproom is rustic yet modern, and the property itself is lovely--there's even a chicken enclosure! Warm, laid-back vibe in a quiet, bucolic setting. I think there were around 14 picnic tables scattered about, so it might be good to think about bringing your own chairs if you're going on a potentially-popular weekend (although we had no trouble at all finding seating on a fall Sunday afternoon). There are some tables under a roofed area, and a few other tables have umbrellas. The trees can provide quite a bit of shade. You certainly know what you're getting into as far as beverages if you look at their menu ahead of time. The Apricot (apricot) and the Morello (cherry) were sour-forward with notes of their respective fruits; the Rossi tasted mostly how an artisan soap store would smell, which is probably explained by lavender and mint being two of the foraged ingredients. I wouldn't seek any of them out again, but Plan Bee is such a nice little Poughkeepsie gem that I look forward to returning to try some other offerings. read more

After showing up to the brewery/farm though, this place will stay in the positive category for me. Super nice employee, clean and welcoming spot, the music was pretty good too. Among the slate of breweries that have popped up the last several years in NYS, Plan Bee stands out as special. I've been to a crapton of breweries, locally as well as across the country, and I've yet to find beer quite like here. Like sours? You better. While some blend the borders, everything they make here could be classified under that style thanks to the yeast they harvest off the honeybees on the property to make their beer. That's on top of all their ingredients being grown on property or on an adjacent farm. Translation: this is next level commitment. The property itself is beautiful. I had come years ago and they've built it up nicely with a ton of seating and a beautiful taproom space without losing the remote character. You would not guess this is 5min from downtown Poughkeepsie from the pics and the feeling in person is the same. Literally saw a bald eagle in the distance this past visit. It's tranquil as fuck. The beer is priced well for this type of place. Not everyone will appreciate it, however some who don't like beer normally may love this; my best friend hated beer his whole life, and this place broke him of that. Service is about as friendly and knowledgeable as it gets, given that the husband/wife team that runs the place are typically the ones serving you. My friends and I do a yearly brewery tour upstate, and this has been a consistent staple of that. This past visit the Cellar Beer, Breakfast and Morello were the winners for me. Far from average! Great spot to get a taste of the Hudson Valley. The taproom is intimate, cozy and inviting. While the menu doesn't have recognizable beer names, the beer tender provided a thorough description of the beers offered; nice variety. I tried both the cellar beer and barn beer. Nice cozy brewery hidden away at a farm. I went during the winter and I can imagine how this place is in the summer. The bar is nice and cozy. Very woodsy. For appetizers, there is a small offering of cheeses, cold cuts, crouton bread, and pop corn. You can bring or order your own food. Beer: Star of the show. My favorite beers were the pickle and hot pepper beer. Both were unique and very good. A-lot of the other beers did not have enough pow to make it memorable like these. A charming and unique craft brewery! We were so happy to find this hidden gem! Plan Bee is on the outskirts of Poughkeepsie. It's off the beaten track, but our map app took us right to it. Drive up a dirt road about 300 yards to get to the tap room. On a recent warm Sunday afternoon, the place was practically deserted, just the way we like it! Derrick was manning the taps. He's both knowledgeable and helpful. We had two wild sours which were perfect for the hot Sunday afternoon. I visited Plan Bee Brewery on Saturday afternoon. I was visiting the Poughkeepsie area for the day so I could cycle the Rail Trail. I thought it would be fun to stop and visit some area breweries on my return trip. Sixth stop of the day: Plan Bee Farm Brewery. It's located on beautiful farmland on the outskirts of Poughkeepsie. They don't do taster fights, but they do have half pours. This was helpful for me, because I was brewery hopping and only wanted to drink smaller samples. I had half pours of "Raised Bed" (a saison brewed with lemongrass) and "Rose Hill #3" (a wild ale brewed with plums). They were both very good. They also had Valia's Wood Fire Pizza Truck on the premises that day. I was already pretty full from polishing off two pizzas at two other breweries that day, but the pizza looked too good to pass up, so I ordered a Margherita Pie to go. The grounds of Plan Bee are beautiful. It's very family oriented. I would totally feel comfortable coming back with my family, blanket/chairs, and having a picnic lunch with some tasty brews. I ordered bottles of the two beers that I sampled. I packed the bottles into my saddlebag, bungee-tied the pizza box on top, hopped back on the bike trail and headed back to the car. When I finally made it home, I put the Valia's pizza in the fridge. I heated it up in the next day and my wife and I shared it for lunch. Despite being transported by both bicycle and car, and then spending a day in the fridge, it still tasted really good. Plan Bee was easily my favorite brewery stop of the day. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I would visit again if I'm in the area again. read more

Plan Bee is a fantastic brewery! With so many micro breweries in the Northeast, it's nice to see one that has its own 'personality'. We are in the area a few times a year and we always make a plan to visit or least have our local family purchase our selection in advance. They are truly focused on local - only local ingredients used in their product and in some cases it's ingredients they have grown themselves. It's fantastic. Most recently I purchased Barn Beer, Fuggle, Tippette, Hay and was able to snag the highly coveted - BeeKeeper (1500mL) - monster bottle. Everything is so delicious - if you like a wild ale/sour type of beer, this is definitely place for you to visit. Its on a nice piece of property, with great owners and hosts. my friend and i stumbled here during covid to pick up local beer, and we were greeted by 1 of the owners. we grabbed beer to go, a tshirt, and a great tote bag. The beer itself is steep in price, but there are layers of flavor in every sip. The flavor profiles and usage of honey and other natural, farm grown ingredients, is what makes the beer stand out. i love the barn that is now turned into a bar and hang out area, theres plenty of parking, and even a stage for local entertainment. Great spot to visit on the weekends, especially on a nice weather day, so you can sit outside and enjoy the property. The tap house is so cute, the folks there are friendly and welcoming. Also especially helpful in trying to fit a beer that fits your taste - they gave me several to taste so I could decide. I chose the current beer, which was light and refreshing. They were making Bloody Mary's the day we visited- so my husband had one which was fantastic! I personally prefer to come when they have food trucks (check the schedule on their website) but they also hosts bands, so if you love live music - this is your jam. Property itself is vast and secluded they have picnic tables in both the sun and shade as well as fire pits so you could definitely stay and hang out here for hours. read more

One of my favorite breweries to hang out at upstate! I first had their beer at Ugly Baby in Brooklyn, and since then have always been looking for a chance to come out here to visit. The main tasting area is in a barn that shares space with their brewery tanks - service is super friendly, and absolutely love their beers. Some of my favorites are the Barn Beer and the Pickle. For those who don't drink beer, they have local wines as well. What really sets this place apart as good as the beer here is the vibe here. A perfect escape from the city, nestled in a wooded area, with lots of room for kids, pets, everyone to run around. So cool hanging out in barns with farm animals roaming around too. Finally popped in here on the first chilly weekend of the year and traveling the backroads to get to this location will make you believe you are lost... you aren't! It's just deep in the woodlands! The main reason why we came here in the first place is I was familiar with Plan Bee's beers from a craft brew store in park slope (Brooklyn.) When I found out they are based in Poughkeepsie I new we had to check them out. When we first drove up here me and my brother kept second guessing ourselves if we took the wrong turn because the dirt road up to the barn was super woodsy. As the name suggests this is indeed a true farm. All the ingredients they use are local and you can see their crops and animals everywhere. I believe we saw chickens while we were walking up to the taproom. This really added to the rustic atmosphere of the brewery and we have never been to a microbrewery like this one before. The beers here were also fantastic. Though expensive the flights we had were flavorful. I really enjoyed trying their "cucumber" beer though I don't think I would have that frequently. We also had one of their white wines which I really enjoyed. If your a fan of visiting microbreweries I highly recommend this hidden gem of Poughkeepsie. You might also be able to bring your family here considering the farm animals and the fact they have board games inside. read more

I have to say: I love the products and the concept at this spot! Focusing exclusively on locally grown and sourced ingredients (including bees from right on the property!) this spot is the freshest of the fresh. I've had the opportunity to visit a handful of times in nicer weather, and you can take your glass outside to sit at a picnic table or bring our own chairs. Perfect for families, too, as they have little chickens, goats, ducks, and other things to look at. They have very minimal food (and none really child *super* friendly), so I'd recommend packing snacks for the little ones. This place is great! Coming up on a small road you can tell it's a small barn house, which is converted into a brewery. There are some free roam chickens, a closed gated garden and a separated barn house with some goats. The place has a nice, easy going vibe to it. Enjoyed a few beers at Plan Bee Farm Brewery on Saturday afternoon. A very focused brewery, so those looking for a variety or who are picky may not love the beer, but everyone will love the space. Quality: Plan Bee Farm Brewery is all about wild ales. This is not a brewery you should expect to find an assortment of different styles, they focus on one type of funky beer, and do it in a few different ways. During our visit I tried Kimet, a barn beer with cherry, Pompatus, a barn beer with peaches, Tippette, a summer wild ale, and Royal Jelly, a wild ale in whiskey barrels with honey. I tended to like the wild ales a little more than the barn beers, with Royal Jelly being the highlight. With the additional zest from the whiskey barrels, it has a level of complexity the other beers missed out on. During our visit we also enjoyed Olives, Cheese, and Meat, little packages of snacks, which work great between sips of beer. Quantity: Full pours or bottles. They require a food purchase, so definitely check out the fridge, as sizable packages of Olives, Cheese, and Meats are much better options than a bags of chips. Value: $7 for a Draft Pour. $6 for food snacks including Olives, Cheese, and Meats. Ambiance: Plan Bee Farm Brewery is located in Poughkeepsie, but a little outside the city area. When driving out you quickly go from city streets to dirt roads. The farm is a wonderful environment for a sunny afternoon. The actual barn is used as the taproom, which was mostly for just grabbing beers, but I assume can convert to indoor seating when the weather shifts. Outside is a large grassy hill, with some picnic tables and chairs. A stage sits towards the middle, and we had a blues band playing tunes. Some animals were wandering around, but most stayed away from the guest areas, likely because of the number of dogs. A idyllic spot to spend an afternoon. Crowd: The brewery was very busy on a gorgeous afternoon. Many folks, who I assume were repeat visitors, knew to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks. Service: They were having some issues with the taps, so getting beers was a little slow. Appreciated the way they set up the line to encourage social distancing as you wait. We made a short stop here on our drive to Albany. Very cool and rustic little place that is well worth a visit if you are interested in trying craft beers. We sipped on four different half-pours and were happy to sit and enjoy the atmosphere on a Friday afternoon. We are not IPA fans and were able to find a number of options that we enjoyed. Knowing I was an avid beer enthusiast, a wonderful client of mine gifted me with a few bottles of highly rated craft beers from local breweries. One of those bottles was Plan Bee Barn Beer. I immediately fell in love with it. I have since ordered a case from their distributor online which was incredibly convenient, albeit a bit pricey (but I believe you get what you pay for, so...quality bottles, well-packed, quickly delivered, so...not pricey!) . I just ordered their "Garden Beer" to try, can't wait! I am looking forward to making a trip up to the brewery this summer. We visited this place a few years ago when it was just a beer tent and some goats in the field. This beer is distinguished and delicious. We LOVE NEIPAs, but this place has stolen our hearts. This place is huge. Nestled on a farm, obviously, this brewery is huge! It also offers a pretty good selection of beer as well as some wines. You are able to buy a variety of merchandise as well and you can buy their pre-established bottles. The beer is okay, a lot of it is kind of tart so make sure you know what you like before visiting. One of the cooler things is that everything is sourced in New York State, and a lot of it from the local area in general. The Pepper beer is pretty good, different from most because it has the spice after the taste. Would definitely recommend. read more
