First time at the Poughkeepsie location, we've been to the New Paltz location a few times and always great. Sorry to see it's gone (in New Paltz). I started with a couple Pilsners, then came the food. Everything was top notch and very creative! Choices on the menu you're not gonna see anywhere else. My Rueben sandwich was excellent, and the rest of my family loved what they had. I threw a few pictures on here of the food, but I forgot to snap some of the bier garden. Certainly this is a very casual bar atmosphere but with really tasty German offerings in addition to bar classics. It has a bit of cluttered in spots but the service was good. Great outdoor patio oasis makes you forget you're even in the city of Poughkeepsie. Great selection of brews our go to that day was mass riot by prison city, very tasty. Food was good. Our go to is the wings but decided to try new things. Cheeseburger egg roll was good if you need that greasy food (not in a bad way). Mac n cheese was a lil bland but nothing hot sauce can't fix and the fries are always great. Our waitress was very nice and provided service to us adequately. This place had a lot of things that we thought would be fun to try and share. We got the pretzel poutine which was decent (fun idea, not bad execution, but still think it would've been better with fries (their fries were really good)). The fried cheese curds were delicious and definitely our favorite appetizer. We got pulled pork pierogis that were pretty decent (although I think we'd try a different flavor next time. The cheeseburger egg rolls were just OK for me. Kinda greasy, I'd skip them next time. We tried a Fondito dog, which was pretty good. We tried the spaetzle Mac and cheese and it was OK. Also had the schnitzel with buttered spaetzle. My kids were a little disappointed with both. To be fair, I make a kick ass spaetzle and I cook it in very salty water and then pan fry it in butter, so they're used to spaetzle with more flavor and more texture, so for us it was a little disappointing. Bad service ruins your experience. Unfortunately, this was our experience tonight. In town for college tour and a show. Decided on a casual joint with great food, as per reviews. The food was good, but due to poor service it wasn't hot when it got to us. We sat outside in the bier garden which is nice. Music playing, lights, flowers and pretty greenery. Greeted warmly, seated immediately. Off to great start. Downhill from there. I'm thinking our waitress was having a bad night, or new and didn't know how to manage orders..or both. We started by ordering drinks. They took forever to come. She came back l20 minutes later to take our order before we got our drinks. We said we'd like our drinks first, she said they are ready at the bar. Disappeared for another 10 minutes and then our drinks came. It's a bier garden. We ordered draft beers. Other waitstaff were getting orders and bringing drinks back quickly. Not our experience unfortunately. So the next time we saw our waitress we ordered food. She seemed annoyed we stopped her. The Beer cheese soup tasted amazing, but not very hot. Same with max & cheese balls. The chili dry rub wings lacked good flavor for a dry rub. Food when we got it tasted great, but not very hot. Clearly was sitting for a while before we got it. From what I observed that wasn't other diners experience. Seemed to be our waitress. So the next time we could get her attention we asked for check and left. It's a shame. Food was good. But with so many other dining choices, next time we are in area, will go somewhere else. Unlike the one in New Paltz, there is not much seating available inside for dining. However if you are going for bar service there is a very nice, very stocked and very long bar available. My group and I were there for a quick dinner and drink. We shared the hot pretzels appetizer which was so good! The mustard was very seedy which is just how I like it. I followed up the appetizer by ordering some wings. It was a large portion and seasoned well. Very tasty. I did remove a star because some of the staff was getting a little rowdy behind the bar as we were eating. Usually I wouldn't mind too much but it was just a little too loud and distracting. read more

At long last my party of six continues our merriment in Hudson Valley, NY region for lunch at Schatzi's Pub. Outdoor dinning with digital menus via QR code in accordance with COVID-19 NYS compliance which the weather was glorious. Schatzis Pub's mascot is a grey and white skunk holding a craft beer. Large outdoor patio picnic style tables provide lots of table space and seating without overcrowding. Water is available and served in mini Mason jars. At the entrance glass door contains stickers of local craft beers and breweries. I decided on fish and chips $15.00 of beer-battered cod fried golden brown served with tartar sauce and nearly 2 lbs. hand-cut fries and a grilled half lemon. There were only two small pieces of fish and my entire plate was full of French fries. It was gargantuan amount of fries for my liking and larger than my stomach's intake. I wished I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich on brioche, hopefully there were not gargantuan French fries. Ketchup was not provided as neither were condiments of salt or pepper. My friend's grilled pork belly tacos with house kimchi, avocado, pickled red onions, cilantro, chipotle aioli appeared tasty. The kimchi was certainly spicy. Vegan free and gluten free food options are available. Service is attentive, efficient and accommodating to provide separate bills. Restroom facilities are available on the premises. No, Schatzi's skunk did not spray liquid with a strong, unpleasant stench at my party of six. read more

Went here for dinner during a girls trip and we really enjoyed it! The outdoor patio on a warm October evening with the string lights was a beautiful place to have our meals and a few drinks. Been coming to Schatzi's for years now and always have a great time. Although I have yet to find availability in their celebrated "mug club," I still have hope that someday it'll happen. I was happy to see that Schatzi's is still very active in selling to go food/drinks. Last week, I saw that they were offering "to-go" cans of the coveted Heady Topper from Alchemist Brewery in VT. I called and paid over the phone and picked up two four-packs within a few minutes. Schatzi's was awesome and the transaction was seamless. The Heady Topper was ice cold and ready to be consumed. The bar is long and the dining area is in the rear. We had 3 appetizers wings,fried pickles and pierogis. They where real good. We all had Schatzis burgers and they where out of this world!! I'm not sure how I have not given Schatzis a review after coming here many times! I really like this spot for their rotating beer taps, they have 16 beers on draft and several cans. They have a variety of local beers and German brews. They have weekly food specials, I typically enjoy the Thai chili wings, burgers, and their amazing frites! Today's experience wasn't the best, my fries came out room temperature and the burger was a bit overdone but I'm hoping that was a one time thing. I enjoy that they have 4 TVs at the bar if you are going to watch a game and their outdoor garden is wonderful in the summertime. They were out of the beer that we ordered so they just brought something else without the option of choosing a new drink. The Schatzi burger was cold and dense. Fries were good. We really love this local spot! Been here many a times for full meals, pierogi night and just a drink. They have plenty of craft beer options and always have a sour or two which I love most! The pierogis are veryyyy delicious and I believe it's wednesdays where they have a special (think it's $2-3 each). My husband just ordered the fish and chips recently and loveddddd it. Super fresh! I actually dislike the veggie burger for some reason, a little flavorless and more on the mushy side. The fried cheese curds are absolutely amazing and a perfect elevated greasy bar app! I was told there was an outdoor seating area that I did not checkout once I was looking to find a larger place for a group in the colder season. Schatzi's was a surprise find on our group visit to Poughkeepsie's famous Walkway on the Hudson. Selecting it from Yelps local recommendations, we were not disappointed. With real German bier of tap, how could we go wrong? Everybody enjoyed their food. Even I liked my poutine, although it did not live up the high standard set for this dish, as I remembered it from our trip to Ottawa a few years ago. The Schatzi's burger had to be one of the best burgers that I have ever tasted in my life! In fact during COVID Schatzi's saved my life! Since I live near them I would just order food and drinks and bring it home! With that being said, Please, try the Schatzi's burger, it is a burger with so many dimensions and taste infusions. I also enjoy the pork belly tacos, they are full of flavor and not over powering with the taco elements, meaning there is not too many onions, or too much cilantro, the flavors are all well balanced and the pork belly is cooked to perfection! I also enjoyed the poutine made with french fries, i pair it with whatever dark stout that they have on tap.
