The Planet Fitness at 1819 S Pleasant Valley Rd. Austin, TX 78741, is filthy, bordering on disgusting, and has so many inoperable machines that I couldn't begin to count them all. This gym also smells awful and has abysmal lighting. Thank god I brought my trusty bottle of spray alcohol, or I would have left within minutes after I arrived. There's not much to say other than what I've already mentioned. Thank God I don't live near this Planet Fitness; I was visiting from Las Vegas for the day. The ownership and management of this facility seem indifferent, so I won't bother suggesting any improvements. I don't usually like to make reviews on corporate, big box businesses. But I do make exceptions. I recently joined PF and have chosen this as my home location. This is probably the cleanest PF location, heck any gym for that matter, that I've been to. That's really important to me. However, the main reason for the review is because the employees are so hard-working and dedicated to their clientele. They are just nice people. Taking time to assist even if they're busy. You're never made to feel like a number or uncomfortable. It's just really refreshing to have that experience during each and every visit. read more

I have been a member here for many years but it has gone downhill a lot lately. It seems like every other person is playing loud music on their cell phone or having loud extended conversations on speaker phone. There are also a lot of people that sit on machines staring at their phones for a really long time. Its a good location with nice staff but it has turned into something that many people would rather avoid. read more

I do not recommend this place because it is a place where people do not go to train but to have sex in the bathrooms, this morning a young man who works there called my attention because according to him I was singing. I asked him for the GYM regulations and he refused to give them to me because according to him I had to see them in the application. It seems to me that this guy should worry more about what really matters. Is this GYM a place to have sex or train? This has reached such a point that even this place is listed as a meeting place to go to have sex. And let's not forget the damaged machines that take days to repair. Everyone here is amazingly friendly. The staff is incredibly kind and I really enjoy being there. I've never had a question or issue that wasn't handled in a way that made me feel like a bother or uncomfortable. The massage chairs are a definite favorite of mine. I love the Total Body Enhancement machine and use it every time I go. Tanning - where else can you get a tanning membership for less than $35 a month?! Awesome. The 30 minute workout system is great for someone who is just starting out. The only issue I have here is it always seems someone is just sitting on their cell phone and not moving. (This has nothing to do with the staff or the gym itself, people can be selfish and it sucks.) There are SO many machines in the main gym area, that you can never say you can't find an empty machine. All in all, it's a great Planet Fitness, the membership prices are a bargain, and the staff here is above and beyond nice. read more

UPDATE: Still 5 stars. I've only been 6 times since I signed up. With work being so busy, the holidays, I've been sick, etc. Lots of excuses not to go you know how it is! But the nice thing is the app allows me to do workouts at home at times that are convenient for me, like at 9pm after my son goes to bed. Only thing is, some of the workout videos are locked, I'm sure only for those with the Black Card. I might consider upgrading soon. As far as the physical gym, I realized that the best time to go is in the afternoon. Sometimes instead of taking lunch I go to the gym around 2pm. Or if I leave work early I can go around 3 or 4. It's never too full and there is so much cardio equipment. I tried going a few times before work around 7am but it was very crowded. My favorite machines to use are the rower and sitting elliptical. I have bad knees so it's tough to use the regular elliptical. Everyone on staff that I have interacted with has been very helpful and friendly. I no longer come here. I believe the staff as a high turnover rate for a reason. The main manager and his wife run this place and I am not fond of his behavior- eye rolling at guests, mansplaining, and in general not taking clients requests in mind to keep the work out experience pleasant for all. It's a decent gym but what I don't really like is how overcrowded it can be at a certain time and there are some people who give off an odor that is unpleasant, and that repels me from coming there. But this is from my experience it could be different for anyone. read more

This all started when I tried switching to Planet Fitness from Gold's to save money. Membership here only costs $10 per month as of opposed to $40+ per month at competitors. Unfortunately, I can't find anything I like better about this gym other than the price. It's a substantial downgrade in every single aspect. First off, it's not located in the nicest area in town. There are no dangerous neighborhoods in Austin per se (compared to New York, LA and SF etc), but there's a lot of homeless people nearby and the buildings are pretty worn down and in rough shape. There are no free weight racks, only Smith-Machines, which is a massive dealbreaker for me. I want to be able to bench press, dead lift and squat free weight!!! And this has nothing to do with gym intimidation. I consider myself a beginner weightlifter but I still want to train basic movements with barbell free weights, and not be restricted to machines. The bathrooms are dirty, the equipment is worn down, and the space is way too crowded at peak times. The first 2 things are probably related to overcrowding. I don't want to wait for every exercise in my routine every time I workout. My experiment to save money is in shambles. I'm canceling my PF membership and going back to Golds because I don't wanna pay for a membership that I won't use. Learned the hard way that you get what you pay for. read more

I really didn't go to planet fitness because I have a Golds membership. I had been meaning to cancel. Been telling myself I was gonna cancel it for the last few months. However today I get an email that my membership was canceled. It said due to No Time. Someone even went as far as to sign my name (not my signature.) says my last check in date was feb 21 but I haven't step foot in there for about a few months. I'm glad my membership is canceled but I find it disturbing that they just let anyone go up in there and impersonate me. What information of mine did they send them home with? Did they give them a copy of my contract that had my personal information and social? My drivers license # perhaps? I need answers. Stay away from this place. They are wteckless with your personal information. Like did no one even think to check the persons identification? They take your picture so they can see it's you and they didn't even bother to use that identification set??? Again like I said, very disturbing. read more

Note: This is a multistage review for anyone considering joining a gym. A few considerations made to determine Planet a fitness over others. 1. Cost - it's great that ATX has so many choices but I'm not shelling out $1/2/300's of dollars to join a CrossFit club - yet! 2. Location - it's very close to my condo in EA in a shopping plaza. 3. Hours - pretty much whenever I want 24/7. I like a routine but I train usually at 5am and most in the area don't cater to it. On to the review... Visit 1: Research - I noted reasons as to why this peaked my interest but there is still a matter of facility and staff. Well let's start with staff and more importantly George. He has a great spirit about him and is quite friendly. This made the visit less of a car sale and more of a chill let's walk about and talk. The wife and I weren't rushed and it was very insightful. He knows his stuff and explains it clearly. I learned a thing or two for sure. The facility is well equipped. There isn't a pool however for the last 6 yrs at a previous membership I personally never used it there. If it's your thing then it will be a dealbreaker perhaps. Treadmills for miles! Wowza! I should also note the place seemed clean - minus a midday locker room full of activity (weekend). The locker room seemed consistent with other facilities so no knock on it as not all people have manners. It's apparent these guys seem to be on top of that though. One item I liked the most where additional features I'd not seen before - tanning, massage beds/chairs, and a red light thing. Pretty cool. They also have a layout that seems to cater to the CrossFit / HIT training for those interested. George gave us some other details and suggested we free trial - sorry George I already made up my mind! :) Visit 2: Joining - Another weekend visit and this time I had done my research of many gyms. This is the day, now is the time! We walk in and guess who's there to welcome us? George! He is a positive soul for sure. I could have a beer with this dude. So we start our paperwork at the small tables at the entrance. We see many coming and going. I witnessed two different members come in to cancel and it was quite painless for them - that's great considering I'm doing the PF Black myself. We chose PF Black for each of us as my schedule puts me about the US so I can find local PFs when I travel. PF Black has a lot of perks - most are not for me but it's good to have. George helped us through the process and even on little details like getting us different cards so we don't mix them up - genius my man! All in all this sign up was quick and easy. My next edit will include first day workout notes. Update: it's perfect! I don't have any complaints. Staff is great, equipment is working, parking seems easy (5am) and space to do my thing. I'm pleased and suggest giving it a test run. read more

She made the experience horrible. 0/10 would go to any other gym than to endure her passive aggressive attitude towards my family and I. I went in and canceled my policy and the employee kept removing their masks and exposing their noses and people in the gym we're drinking water and working out with the mask below their nose. When I pointed that out they said well we're healthy so will be fine if we get the virus. They also charged me a yearly fee on August 1 and I canceled my membership and they wouldn't do anything about that. Basic PF, got to love the sit on their phone crowd on a machine. Definitely not one of the better gyms. Only plus was it was clean.

Best membership I've ever spent my money on. I'm down 40lbs in 5 months and have been consistently seeing the PF personal trainer Jose for 20 weeks. My body is completely transforming and his knowledge and professionalism is more than I could've asked for. Even better he's included in my membership along with the massage chairs and bed (the black card). You cannot get a better deal anywhere, I guarantee it, I've done my research!!! Jose's shown me how to use all the equipment/free weights and guides every workout making sure each one is more challenging than the previous. The staff is amazing, all the equipment seems upgraded and new. The staff is always cleaning, vacuuming or sanitizing. The restrooms and showers are clean. I'm always greeted and welcomed when I arrive and I've even stayed after to use the office space and Wi-Fi. I'd give 10 stars if possible, and yes I highly recommend!!!! read more

Please, please turn on the AC. This is the closest PF to my house and I avoid it just because the heat here is unbearable. Also, I have a black card and brought my fiancé to get a massage in the HydroMassage room and the front desk staff told me I'm not allowed to bring a guest for a massage. Wtf? We've done it at several Planet Fitness locations across the country. Front desk told me "different locations have different rules". The massage beds were open and these people straight up told me they can't accommodate 2 people with a Black Card. Yikes! read more

This is the location, Pleasant Valley, I started at when I signed up and it was always easy to get a machine. I went after 2 pm so it was never crowded and no issues in starting my workout. I like the layout especially when doing strength training since the machines go by body part and this makes it easy to plan for. read more

Literally no racks for free weights. Everything is a smith machine. Also, the dumbbell area is very small. They do not have many dumbbells so chances are the one you want to use is taken.
