When the General Baking Company announced they were plunking down a colossal, noisy industrial factory right on our beautiful Flatbush Avenue, I called it a criminal intrusion! It brings the delivery trucks, the clamor, and quite frankly, that over-designed clock tower is simply too much for our fine residential neighborhood. I swore to my wife, Martha, that not a single nickel of my hard-earned salary would ever cross the threshold of the Bond Bread Bakery. But then... they fired up the ovens. Heaven help me, the aroma. It drifted right down the avenue, sneaking through our parlor windows and completely undermining my righteous indignation. It smells like a warm hug from an angel. Yesterday, my willpower finally snapped. I marched my hypocritical self over to that oversized factory and bought a loaf of their "Better By Far" Bond Bread. I absolutely loathe admitting this, but it is spectacular. The crust has a perfect golden snap, the inside is soft and airy, and it tastes like everything good and wholesome in this changing world. I ate half the loaf with just a smear of butter before Martha even got home. My pride is in absolute tatters, but my stomach is thrilled. read more

I've been going to this gym for quite some time now and I enjoy the experience overall. You can check in immediately upon arrival at the front desk. The staff usually greets you once you arrive. It's not the best experience having to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the locker room and gym machines. The women's locker is located right around the corner of the entrance stairs. The locker room is clean and a decent size. There are plenty of cardio machines to choose from, however, there's only a few stairs master machines. Often times I have to wait until someone is done using it before I hop on. I would love it if there was a separate floor for calisthenics or mat exercises. You pretty much have to place your mat between the machines in order to workout on the mat. Other than that, the gym is a convenient location and has all of the essential equipment you need to have a productive workout. read more

Higher cost may not justify quality of this gym: 1.Wish there were more open spaces to stretch, etc. There are machines EVERYWHERE so you end up having to stand by machines to do other exercises. 2. BEWARE: had my women's locker broken clipped (10/20) during late morning. Desperate person stole my lock, cash and a lipgloss (gross!). Luckily, I didn't have too much in there . ***Filed a report even after they claimed it doesn't happen often (umm, read reviews PF). I was a member at this PF location since 2015, and recently canceled my membership. Unfortunately canceling my membership was a painful process, and I feel that PF are purposely deceptive about their cancellation policies. I put my membership on hold multiple times during the pandemic, but recently decided to cancel for multiple reasons. The membership freeze document lists a date when your membership will be reactivated. What it fails to state is that you need to contact them at least 7 days before that date to renew the freeze or cancel the membership. If you contact them, say, 6 days before the date when your membership will be reactivated, that is too late and you will be billed for the next month. I feel that this is done on purpose, a predatory tactics designed to get $ from people who may contact PF less than 7 days before the reactivation date. Moreover, to cancel you membership they require to either mail a letter, or show up in person. They will not accept an email cancellation, nor will they cancel your membership over the phone. This is in direct violation of NY Senate Bill S1475A[1] that "requires that businesses with automatic renewal services provide an easy way to cancel gym memberships, such as online rather than in-person or other inconvenient ways."[2]. I spoke to an employee at the front desk, and then twice over the phone to the supervisor at this location, who said she will have to contact the PF regional manager in order to request a refund for the extra month I was billed, even though I canceled my membership. The supervisor said that they would call me back "in a couple of days" after talking to the regional manager. Unfortunately that is the last time I heard from them. So, 1 star for PF. The second star is for the people who work at this location, as they at least tried to help. This is the closest one to where I'm temporarily staying at. I go often although my house gym is on 55th street in Manhattan. I love that their bathrooms are always clean and I don't have to worry about the showers being dirty. It's rare when the showers are dirty and I love showering after a good workout. The 30min workout are is great, the equipment keep tracks of your repetitions.. some of the other gyms equipment doesn't have that. read more

Why are you filling the Ab/Stretch area with more machines? You all just put one right in the middle, taking away what little floor space there is. Instead of spending money on useless machines, why not replace missing kettleballs and dumbells? Please watch what gets used before putting in new equipment. Otherwise, great gym. read more

The reason that I love this gym is because one you finish working out, Prospect Park is right there to go on a run, there are laundromats to was your clothes, coffee shops and possibly places to get protein shakes for post workout recovery, and lastly...its in a decent neighborhood, to my knowledge. I think this gym has the perfect mix of in gym productivity and the location around it that offers other things to help extend those workouts. The gym itself has a lot of options as far as workout equipment. Fellow gym goers were respectful and I was able to workout in an effective and efficient manner. It's very clean, on the gym floor and in the bathrooms. I looked at other reviews, but a little situational awareness will help to have a better experience. This location has a serious problem with theft and no one is doing anything about it. Locks are being cut in the locker rooms. Items are being stolen on the gym floor. The employees mostly all stand behind the counter and do not patrol the floor or locker rooms. I see why people work around with their winter coats and bags. This has to be the worst Planet Fitness. If it's not the equipment being out of order it's the most inconsiderate members. There is a member who comes in daily and hangs her coat on the weight machine. It's not just her coat, she leaves her beverage, phone, Paper towel on the bench and walks around the gym socializing. This is an Inconvenience to other members. Friday morning the gym was crowded she stayed on the machine for over an hour,if she wasn't talking to her buddy as ppl waited for the machine she was literally socializing with other members, preventing other members access to the equipment. Management needs to resolve this issue as it's been going on for weeks and it's UNFAIR. I was so excited to finally sign up.. I came in with my bf this evening around 6 with intentions to sign up so that I can start tomorrow. The young lady at the front desk was so cold Me: hi I'd like to sign up for a membership Her: which 1? Me: what are the options? Her: points towards the door in silence My bf: oh it's right here (All of this was while staring at the computer screen) After that everything I asked her she replied in a way like I was already supposed to know Basic questions like operating hours and the cancellation policy. Things I should ask. After deciding on a membership she gave me the iPad and said you can have a seat. So I repeated "have a seat?" Just for clarification cause I wasn't sure if I heard correct or if it meant someone was coming to get me for a tour or anything. She replies: yes over there, you don't need to stand here while looking at the computer. My bf and I made eye contact cause it was clear as day she didn't want to be bothered. He then asked her: will we get a tour? Her: yea you can walk around Lol that was it for me I went to fill out the info on the iPad then realized it's not the environment I'd like to be in so I gave her back the iPad and left. I've used this particular location for several years without issue. The associates are very accommodating and friendly. I came across a gym that better serves my needs and attempted to cancel my PF membership. I was told I can only cancel at my home gym. I went in to the gym to cancel and was told because it is close to my billing cycle I will be charge. According to my agreement with PF I can cancel at any point without penalty. I find this misleading and a conflict to the agreement I signed. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to this gym and I just started going back, I have to say the equipment and gym itself is in much better condition than it used to be. However, I have to say what hasn't changed is members not knowing how to mind their damn business. In the past, I had issues with members giving me unsolicited advice on how to use certain weights, which is uncalled for. Mind YOUR BUSINESS needs to be a slogan in this gym. Keep in mind that in that gym you can cancel your membership only in person and they hold your account number not just the credit card. They have been charging me for a year cause I moved . And they just charged me extra 40d for nothing. In general like a gym is fine. They were so many times that they were missing important equipment but for someone that wants to save money it's ok. Only been to this location once but I actually really liked it. Came during the after-work rush, but there were still plenty of lockers available and space to work out. And folks were putting in some serious work too. The staff was nice, actually more welcoming than at Boerum Hill or Bed-Stuy, and the place is kept as clean as possible, which was a welcome surprise. It's great for the price. I love that it's never too crowded (at least when I go) and the music is not too loud, but some things could use improvement. -There's almost nowhere to stretch. -The circuit workout area is useless. People hang out playing with their phones instead of moving on to the next machine. I used to think they were being obnoxious, but when I would inquire, they generally seemed clueless about the rules. Although the entire section is colored yellow, is separated from the rest of the gym by a freaking fence, has a sign that says "30-minute workout" has, special printed instructions on the wall, and even has a mock traffic light to indicate when to move on to the next machine, they don't seem to realize that they are in a different section with different rules. Poor literacy habits, I guess. Bottom line, though - no enforcement. -There will occasionally be people who bring their own speakers (because what's better than hearing your music AND the gym's music at the same time?). This happens in the locker room and on the floor. I've never seen anyone asked to stop it. There are no signs reminding people not to do it. -Showers aren't always working that well. My summer complaint is that I can't get a cold shower. Soap smells awful, so bring your own. And don't forget your towel, this is a bargain gym. [But if you're under 40, you won't shower, so this item doesn't apply to you.] -Equipment could be a bit better. There are a few machines I'd like to see more of (and one that I wish they had) and the curl bars only go up to 60 pounds. -They got rid of the plastic membership cards and you now have to use an app to sign in, which is annoying for those of us who don't like carrying our phones when we don't need them (like short trips to the gym) or don't like having to scroll through them unnecessarily. And please don't BS us about "contactless" whatever. This is not safer than a plastic card. -I've noticed lately a lot of broken lockers -- I mean ones that were broken into. I wonder if this was something that happened recently when hardly anyone was coming to the gym or if I just never noticed it before. Kinda ironic that they now require you to bring your expensive phone but they don't provide secure lockers. -The decor has all the appeal of a fast-food restaurant. Logos everywhere. We get it, it's Planet Fitness. -You can watch Fox News or MSNBC, but you can't watch the Mets. Even if I were interested in cable news and willing to read subtitles, I'm not going to do it while going hard on the treadmill. Glancing at a ballgame is a much more gym-friendly activity. - A couple of things I left out of my first draft: First, there is no bike rack outside, which is very unusual for a gym. Second, I've noticed the free weights do get a bit crowded and there is a need for more benches. I'm very hurt that Yelp made me remove this review for calling it a disingenuous account of my experience at Planet Fitness Flatbush. What I write and my recollection couldn't be more objective. I'll try again, in good faith. I work things out here. I get through things at Planet Fitness. It's the second best solution for me, because I only know how to paint my pain away, really. Lifting weights while listening to metal and being the aggro man, taming the tormented animal inside, can be somewhat cathartic, and I'm hurt and have bad thoughts that I don't mean to take out on the world. I joke that Planet Fitness is free. One can sneeze in New York and be magically charged the years cost of this gym membership. This has happened to me buying burgers and beers. 78 dollars because I did it in the East Village or at Blue Bird across the street. The gym is a block away from my studio. I get a kick out of the slogans on the wall that it's a judge-free zone. Pardon my cynicism, but can such a zone exist ? Of course not. There are men here much more aggressive in their peacocking than me, grunting and pacing. Intimidating me, I stay clear of their benches. Their corners. Some cat call, some curse. I try to listen to my records and tune out cold Brooklyn, that unromantic view of Western Beef, being Phat Albert adjacent. I'm a complainer on a treadmill not being my best self. Trying to improve. Running away from my pain on a treadmill. Moving moving, like a clock but staying put in it. One let's go of resentment with success. The gym is fine, I tell people. Totally fine, it's close to my studio, my bar cart, my 3am inspirations, my muse, safety net, little orange porcelain doll who has a Twitter presence, who gives me street-cred. She joined the gym, too. I complain to her about Western Beef. About the showers at Planet Fitness. But I don't generally shower in gyms unless they are permeated with eucalyptus and Kiehl's products. But my Prospect Park reality is chosen and loved. It's what I can afford. I've taken it upon myself...to subject myself to this artist life and the girl and I are doing good for now, sharing a futon. I fell off of it once during you know what, and sustained no injuries because I lift weights at Planet Fitness, make sure my tendons and joints are well-spoken for. I workout as much as I can here. Sometimes machines are broken, and it gets fixed as soon as possible. The place is clean. When it rains or snow, there are leaks coming from the ceiling. They should get it fixed. The ceiling has been leaking for over 2 years now (when it rains or snows). There are some lockers in the woman's bathroom that's used for cleaning supplies which can be unfair. Some of the lockers are broken. It's just really annoying ! The gym still has that new sheen about it, which helps mask at least a little bit the not so shiny and great things about this place. Like most PF locations, the floor is majority cardio, split between elipticals and treadmills. The machines themselves do not have tv's built in, though they do all have iPhone plugs and headphone jacks. There are about 10 large TVs to serve the entire cardio section, but only 7ish unique channels. I include this info because I like to cruise for some Law and Order reruns or other full hour shows to take my brain off running, and with minimal TVs all focused on prime time channels, it can be hard to run to anything worthy of distraction. Weights and strength machines flank the cardio, including a 30 minute only Biggest Loser zone for those of you who like to work out according to what a gameshow tells you. There is a "stretching area" too, but its really just a small stretch of empty space in the corner and its often taken up by the personal trainers running client drills. The location is still under construction, at least the elevator bay is, and there are already a leak or two in the ceiling creating some danger zones. The locker rooms are nicely sized, but the bathrooms and shower areas get dirty quickly-not a very clean clientele and not a very on it staff. Every time I've been here there's been some chaos at the front desk, and even if you are already a member just trying to sign in it seems to take 5 minutes of standing around for a staff person to help you. I've seen one or two friendly and helpful managers, but overall the staff look and act like a bunch of bored teenagers who hate nothing more than helping clients. There are no towels and no keypad locks so you have to bring your own of both, they do have water fountains but every time they used them they only dribbled, so bring your own water too (or you can buy downstairs). For the price and location I'm satisfied with this gym, but if I was paying more than $10/month I think I'd be pretty irate. You get what you pay for. read more

Worst gym ever! The most used machines are broken for weeks at a time. There is no management of machines. People bringing dumbbells and weights to weight machines and bench presses that take over the machine for an hour not using the machine 1/2 of the time. The gym just waists your time. The last time I went, someone from the staff asked me why I was standing in one place? I said I was waiting for a machine. I was told I couldn't stand there. I was up against a railing. UPDATE (5/15/17): During rush hour, the gym needs to designate an employee to do a circuit of the paper towel dispensers/cleaning solution bottles, refilling them as necessary. If people need to walk across the entire length of the facility to (hopefully!) find paper towels/spray, they're much less likely to wipe down equipment after use. UPDATE: To Planet Fitness' credit, the two permanent issues mentioned below (bubbled floor near dumbbells and broken hand sanitizer dispenser) have been addressed. Ive started a gym routine with a friend of mine, she refused to come to this location due to terrible customer service that she received a few months ago. Which is a shame because I would like to jog at Prospect Park right across the street as part of our routine. Also, this area has the coffee shops (Tugboat, 1x Cafe, Parkside, etc), bomb Roti at De Hot Pot down the street (try the "double") ...in general is a great studying/eating area. My experience has been great- this is the friendliest gym of all of the Planet Fitness locations ive been to (I go to diff locations in the city and BK). Apparently they have new staff members, Tamera, Katina, Donald, and Josie. They deserve acknowledgement for being very welcoming, attentive, and keep this gym clean! Thanks guys! I ultimately joined this gym because it's very close to my apartment. For me, I consider a good gym one that I will actually wake up and go to before work (so I regularly come here), but this gym is far from perfect. Pros: -Good variety of cardio + weight machines -Never SUPER crowded (I've been to other PF's where it's hard to find a treadmill after work) -All the staff members I've met are really friendly -Only $10 a month Cons: -Some wobbly treadmills (I usually do a "stand and shake test" to make sure they're stable) -Paper towel dispensers are often empty or broken -Not the cleanest bathrooms With that being said, it's a basic gym that costs $10 a month. Finally a gym opened up near my house! Pros: -Really big location. The massage, tanning, and sauna stations are downstairs, and the workout equipment and changing rooms are upstairs -All the staff members are pretty friendly people -the girls changing room has some of the cleanest public bathroom stalls I've ever seen -it's never crowded. At most I've seen it half full Cons: -There are about 3 small ceiling leaks that happen from time to time (watch out, I've been dripped on) -The stretching area is just a small rectangle which gets tight with 4 or more people. (I had to find a little nook on the other side of the gym to warm up) -Even with a black membership like mine, only I can use the massage equipment. Not my guest. ??? You get what you pay for and for $10/month you don't get very much. There's a surplus of so-so aerobic gear which mostly sits unused. While the few smith machines are never free. There are no real free weights. This isn't a serious gym but a place for people who haven't been to a gym in years and want something aggressively non threatening. The etiquette is poor. Nobody clears their weights when they're done. The dumbbells are left everywhere and the staff doesn't really seem to care at all. The change rooms aren't filthy but nor are they very clean. Lockers brake and stay broken for weeks if not months. The bathrooms get new TP only when something thinks to ask for it. There's just a general sense that without any competition nearby (like a Blink) nobody has to try very hard to keep the business going. They're probably right but it doesn't make for a great place to workout. read more

So what have they been doing for the pass seven months While in the front desk for less than five minutes I saw three people use the same pen and no one cleaned their hands or the pen One man said he didn't care because he wasn't going to catch the virus because he had lived to be 35 years old without getting it! Here's the thing. It's $10 a month. So Planet Fitness should be reviewed as a place that costs $10 a month. Basically, Planet Fitness is the Spirit Airlines of gyms. It's there to get the job done without the frills that you think you want or need but never really use. If you are a gym rat looking for a lot of cardio and weight machines to compliment whatever other workouts you do, then this is perfect. I joined because I was tired of paying excessive annual memberships to spend three hours a week on a cardio machine and the rest of my week doing the workouts I really love (Aerial Yoga, Bike Riding, Trampoline, Rock Climbing) elsewhere. If you are like me and hate paying for the extra gym frills you never use, and don't mind bringing your own towel and toiletries and mat then you might be satisfied with Planet Fitness. Some things to beware of: like I said, Planet Fitness=Spirit Airlines; they are there to get the job done, not deliver Grade A top shelf service. You are paying 10 bucks. 1. Don't expect to be treated like you are at The Ritz's private gym and spa. Get over that in advance. 2. The gym and locker room floors, and machines are not thoroughly cleaned on a regular schedule. Avoid corners and the edges of the wall as they tend to be very dusty and dirty. The machines are passable but often dusty in crevices and places you might place a phone or water bottle. This is a legitimate problem. Hygiene is important no matter where you are. If you can bring a small bag or your own wipes do so. Or, hang whatever you need on a railing....after you wipe that too. Overall, for an in and out workout, this totally works. read more

Still, I have so many questions. * Why are there homeless people in here? * Why aren't the weights ever in their spots? * Why do the men here think it's okay to stare and make comments to women? * Why don't the sinks work? * Why are the bikes all broken? * Why are the doors always open when the AC is on in the summer? On the plus side, there are many runners and HIIT enthusiasts here. That makes for a more motivating environment than the handful of other PFs I've been to, where people tend to use the machines.
