Today I watched a female place her dirty bare feet on a workout bench where others sit, lie down, and place their hands. Then I watched as she placed her dirty bare feet on dumbbells where other place their hands and inadvertently might touch their faces. This is disgusting and probably a health code violation but nothing will be done because rather than patrolling the gym floor, the staff just hangs out behind the front desk. Been hitting the Planet Fitness on Sunset in Clearwater for a while now, and it's been solid. Clean floors, plenty of equipment, and I've never had to stand around waiting for a machine like it's a theme park ride. Staff is friendly without being fake, which I appreciate, nobody's trying to upsell me on anything, just a quick hello and they let you do your thing. Bathrooms and locker rooms are always in good shape, which says a lot about how they run the place. For the price, you can't beat it. Good vibe, good people, good gym. read more

I've been a loyal member of this gym for over three years, attending five times a week and always appreciating the staff and facilities--until now. On August 1st, 2025, at around 11 a.m., I had a deeply disappointing encounter with a manager named Courtney at the Clearwater location (1885 N Highland Ave). Earlier that morning, Courtney himself checked me in. About an hour later, I let both him and another employee, Calvin, know I was stepping outside briefly to grab my phone charger from my car. Calvin acknowledged me, and I returned in under a minute. When I came back in, Courtney abruptly shouted "Hey you, you need to sign in" in a loud and condescending tone. I explained I'd already signed in earlier, and my phone had died--hence the quick trip outside. As I began to provide my last name for confirmation, Courtney suddenly told me to leave and said I was "done for today." Calvin tried to intervene and explain the situation, confirming I was signed in and had only stepped out briefly. Despite that, Courtney doubled down and told me he "didn't care," even threatening to call the police if I didn't leave immediately. I left feeling shocked, embarrassed, and deeply uncomfortable. This kind of aggressive behavior is absolutely unacceptable--especially from someone in a leadership position. Sadly, this isn't the first time Courtney has created an unwelcoming atmosphere at this gym. I hope the management team takes this seriously and ensures proper customer service training is provided, because no member should be made to feel like this. read more

Watch out! Women in men's bathroom! A woman came in the men's dressing room when I was undressing to shower. I had to yell at her to leave after asking her to leave. When I was in the shower, less than 5 minutes later, she came back in. Again I had to yell at her to leave after asking her to leave. I talked to the manager, Thomas before I left the club. He said there was a sign up stating indicating a woman was in there. I told him there wasn't when I went in. Also that did not explain her coming back in! He didn't even say I am sorry about that or anything to that effect. Ugh. What is wrong with people?!?!?! read more

The staff are friendly, the facility is "mostly" pretty clean. I have mentioned the heat in the back room. I think its laughable how they added a tiny portable ac unit that blows out warm air. But I suppose it was an attempt to make it better. I am a black card member and try to take advantage of its extra amenities but the red light machine is always... always dirty! I suppose we have to clean the floors ourselves but with an injury that's very difficult to do. I told staff several times, but each time I go back, it looks the same. Other than those two things, for the most part the gym is great, and second shout out to friendly staff, if not for that I might have rater lower. read more

Planet Fitness on Highland is our absolute favorite place to work out. The club is spacious and kept extremely clean with a large diversity of people in all types of ages and levels of ability. Manager Jordan and Kelvin are our favorite employees and do a fantastic job at the club. We are always greeted by a friendly staff and enjoy our experience even on the days you just don't feel like working out there are great areas for stretching or getting your steps in. I used to like this gym. Manager didn't give a call back after I left a message asking to cancel (no one was there during COVID to answer calls). They claim there was no message. Also, no one emailed to say it was closed or tell me when it opened- nice. I was then charged fees, an annual fee and this month's fee as well. No refund, no acknowledgement, no good review from me. Fix it and we'll see. read more

Put the membership on hold for a month after signing up the month prior because I had an unexpected eye surgery. I was not able to drive down to cancel and was not permitted to cancel over the phone. I was advised to place the membership on hold. I was not told there would be an annual membership charge. Now I am charged for 2 annual fees and the new GM- Katrina Miller hung up on me twice. And never responded to my email showing the double charge. Very disappointed by the lack of professionalism. Planet Fitness should adopt a pro-rated annual fee. The gym advertises so called fitness classes but there is no dedicated room, the instructor is the same person and there is never a more than one person participating. read more

Would love to recommend fully, as most of the staff is great. However, today, I encountered the one staff member that was not. Tried to resolve an issue with the location of an apparatus that is hardly ever able to be used due to the location, (and one that can be easily moved- battle ropes) and he was unwilling and to arrogant to resolve this matter with. I was quite shocked at his attitude. It was unfortunate I didn't approach the sweet staff member behind him that seemed to understand the issue. Too bad he represented PF this way today. read more

The trainers do not wipe down equipment after use. This only teaches new members to do the same, putting everyone at health risk. The front desk staff where masks sometimes, but only sometimes. read more

I always attend this gym and I have a black card with them and the massage beds are so relaxing and everything is always clean, as well as all of the workers always cleaning! My husband and I joint about 9 months ago when we moved to the area. We planned to join just a month or two while we finished putting together our garage gym (did not do the year commitment just the month to month membership that was offered at the beginning of the year). Hubby stopped going once our powerlifting gym was done so they let me cancel his membership with no issues. I continue to come because I really like the amenities (tanning, massage chair, hydro massage bed). Went in today wanting to learn more about the red light therapy and wanted to give a should out to a new employee Kelly. She had researched everything about it on her own and was excited to teach and tell me about it. Sounds like a very underused amenity and I look forward to continuing to use it. Places like this are much needed these days to help combat the effects of stress and I'm happy to be a member and support them. read more

Terrible, I canceled my Planet Fitness membership on May 28th, apparently I had an outstanding balance of $41. Fast forward to June 16th, and now I'm told that the account hasn't been canceled and I owe $72! The person I spoke to, Larry told me that there was a "$10 late fee" and that he could "Handle the rest if I just pay the $41" terribly unprofessional, worst gym in the area. Not to mention the actual gym has terrible equipment and the staff are always on their phones instead of attending to customers. read more

I recently moved to Florida and go to Planet Fitness in Clearwater on Highland Ave. The service and professional ism of their staff is outstanding. The people working there are very friendly and the place is very clean. My brother came to visit as my guest and he had a very positive experience as they treated him as their own. Special shout out to Alexis, McKenna, Gene, Rae and Christina. I'd also like to mention how helpful the staff is in teaching you how to use the equipment, in particular, Jamar, who is an excellent trainer, always willing to show you what works best for your particular goals and disabilities. I called since I moved out of town and try to cancel they won't allow it. Owned by the same franchise but they won't allow me to cancel it here. I am in town just to cancel this membership. Today I witnessed an employee tell a customer to "stand on the hip abduction machine to make it harder". Wtf? Are you serious? NO. Sit up straight to make it harder or do an extra set. My husband and I joined Planet Fitness in Clearwater on Hwy 19 a couple years ago, "A JUDGEMENT FREE" gym. We specifically joined to use the 30 minute room, which is for that purpose to use the machines and done in 30 minutes. We had a very bad experience with a couple sitting on only certain machines for a long period of time and when pointed out the signs and what the room was for it became a very mean and ugly situation. I do not like confrontation so tried to get the management to understand situation and it just got worse with no help (who at this point is being judged, those who follow rules, you wonder?), so we let our membership go. Two years later we are trying it again and invited a friend to join also, we are retired age and that room is perfect for all of us. Again people sit on the machines in the 30 minute room on their phone on just one machine, and again when ask for help from management they said "there's NOTHING we can do". If the room is set up for that purpose why is it there is NOTHING you can do. In a couple mornings I also noticed that people that look homeless must be paying 10.00 month for bathroom and showers. One walked in this morning with flip flops and dirty and went straight to the bathroom not for workout. Maybe $10.00 is not such a great deal????? read more

There are much better gyms out there. This one is just OK. The temperature is a bit on the warm side. The TV station numbers are not in sync with the equipment. Also it is very irritating that the music and the video are completely not in sync. Come guys spend a little time and contact your tech guy. The AC is very loud andsounds like it is on its last leg. Perhaps that is why it is a bit on the warm side. One side of the gym has air flow from 2 huge fans. The other side lacks air movement. I guess it depends on what you go to the gym for but this one lacks in many respects. read more

Let me start by saying that this used to be my daily gym and my favorite gym for years and I'm sad that I even have to post this but this place is A SCAM! Last year I fell on hard times after the Covid affect and started to have a hard time paying my monthly bill. Not to mention I HAVE NOT USED THE SERVICE ITSELF IN OVER A YEAR - and they have still continuously debited my account for the monthly fee. I HAVE TRIED TO CANCEL MULTIPLE times but they are not allowing me to cancel because I have a past due balance. Not allowing me to cancel because I have a past due balance causes me to keep incurring monthly charges for a service I am not using and do not want to use. I have called the store multiple times and I have gone to the location multiple times and they have still continuously told me that they cannot cancel me because I have a past due balance. If I had the money to pay the past due balance wouldn't I have done that five months ago when I only owed ONE months payment ? In May they tried to charge me a yearly fee which I also did not pay, at that point I figured since I did not pay the yearly fee they would automatically cancel my account which they still have not and last month they successfully took a payment out of my account for a monthly fee. If I did not pay my yearly dues why are you taking money out monthly????? I am not a member. I do not want to be a member. You are literally holding me hostage. I went to the club again today to try to cancel and to try to get a straight answer on why I'm continuously being charged when I didn't pay my yearly dues and the "general manager" there, KATRINA was TERRIBLE. She said she had only been there for a month..... I CAN DEFINITELY TELL. If the owners are reading this I would definitely choose someone different to be the general manager of your location. She was rude and condescending she would not give me the information that I requested of her. I asked her for a higher up she kept saying "he's going to tell you the same thing I am". Unprofessional. I asked for his name and phone number, she refused to give it to me. Unprofessional. At first she offered to send an email, so I told her I would hold and then she refused to send the email stating she would "do it later, she's helping another member". Unprofessional. I have been in customer service for 14 years and just want to say this is the worst customer experience I've ever had to go through. IM LITERALLY BEING HELD HOSTAGE BY A GYM THAT I DONT USE AND THEY WONT STOP CHARGING MY ACCOUNT. As you can probably see Im not someone who usually leaves bad reviews but the this is just getting ridiculous. I've left hundreds of great reviews for places that I've loved I've even left a great review for this gym itself over a year ago when it was still good and I'm going to leave that post so that you can see how things have changed over the last year. My hopes are that the owner sees this and contact me as soon as possible to rectify this situation since apparently it's out of everyone else's hands and no one can do anything. Extremely disappointed at the unprofessional service I've received. Also after reading all of these other terrible reviews the next place I'm contacting is the better business bureau. My experience with Planet fitness on Highland has been amazing !!! The personal trainer Nessi does a fantastic job!! She has helped to improve my quality of life with her approach and training . She is detailed, kind , supportive and very encouraging!!!Love taking her classes and they are all FREE at this gym !!!!! The staff at the front desk is very nice and personable!!!
