The new layout is terrible. They only have 4 recumbent bikes (one is out of order), the weight machines are placed awkwardly and there's not enough of them. People will just sit and scroll their phones while sitting on them. They have an area designed for stretching, an area for CrossFit activity and another one with big weights. The rest of the space is more big weights, a few weight machines, treads, a few regular bikes, steppers and ellipticals. If you have an injury and are forced to use only the recumbent bike and weight machines, you're out of luck. This is not the gym they once advertised. read more

A very good workout early Sunday morning, the place was not at all busy. I had no problem finding a locker and changing into workout clothes then doing the Thirty Minute Circuit and not being disturbed. Plenty of room in that area so I could not have to work around people. After, the showers were good. I like the "double" stall where I could change and then get right into the shower. Hot water worked well enough but the pressure is low. The shower seemed clean enough to me though I think both curtains need to be replaced. Overall, a good spot and I was glad to stop here. i've been going to planet fitness for years and this is my home location. The problem with this location is a lot of people just sit on the machines and don't work out. Or they stand around and talk while their friend is sitting and not working out. if you say something to the front staff, they're like there's nothing we can do about it. I've complained more than once. I'm over it. The new machines are awkward and set up very weird. Where they used to have say for back twist machines now they only have one so you have to wait. A lot of the leg machines are broken already even though they're brand new and have temporary signs on them. I don't care for the new leg machines where you push in or pull out. It's one machine and it's obviously fit for somebody who's over 6 foot tall very awkward. i'm going to find a new home location. read more

Did a tour on a Friday afternoon. They were very busy and was told at 5pm it is intensly busy. Seemed like alot of folks rested on the equipment between seats on their phones. I am looking for more of a full service workout facility, which includes amenities like sauna and whirlpool and a roster of trainers. They had one trainer. If you know what you want to do they have a wide range of equipment and affordable rates. read more

Circuit area machines are used by everyone regardless they are doing the circuit or not. I was not able to finish the workout because people were just sitting in the machines not working out. When I asked in the front desk the employee told me that they really don't enforce or ask members to follow what is in signs and the website. This happened time at 5:30am 19may2025. read more

I joined this gym a few years ago. At first the staff was great and the club was super clean. Both on the exercise floor and in the locker rooms. Flash forward three years. Now the staff is rude, unhelpful and they really only seem to congregate at the front desk instead of working. The bathrooms are always dirty and the showers themselves smell like sludge and the shower floors are slimy. Not to mention the mold and mildew on the shower walls and the shower curtains. In the past six months I've emailed the manager twice, mentioned it to two of the desk I personnel, and waited 20 minutes one morning for the manager to speak to me. Not even that made a difference. It's a shame that there are no consistent standards for customer service. read more

Boondocker. We use the showers when we travel. Skip this place. The showers are filthy. The whole shower/ bathroom area reeks of mold. Walls/floors are covered in soap, grime and hair. There is clearly no cleaning to be had here. Do yourself a favor and go to the next town. read more

I love planet fitness! I have been a black card member for years. Just wanted to note a few things for the Garner NC location. Pro: gym is very clean! I have never been to this gym and it not be clean which is great. The staff is great. Cons: equipment sometimes is "out of order" and takes a while to get fixed. Also, this location has become crazy busy!!! Which is great for planet fitness but when you have to wait in lines for equipment it is discouraging and a hassle and inconvenient if your on a time limit. I think it's time for a second garret location or one between downtown raleigh and garner. Also 40-42 garner area is booming with housing and business so would be a good area too read more

Pros: great gym, staff, etc. Con: absolutely impossible to cancel. I was a loyal member for 3 years before moving to Oregon back in December. In January I sent my cancellation letter and now as I cancel my NC bank account realize these crooks have been taking money from my account every month and still going! Even worse, I'm jumping through tons of hoops now to try and cancel and the manager literally won't even talk to me... bc "he's too busy on a virtual conference". Very disappointing experience after being such a loyal member for so long, but can definitely say I will never visit another PF location again... although it seems I'll be a paying member for the foreseeable future until I can figure out how to fix their manual processes which won't allow my cancellation to be processed. read more

I stop by this PF several times a month while working in Raleigh. It's a large PF location, very clean and has a great selection of equipment. Like most gyms, it can be busy with the early morning workout crowd so you may want to consider this when choosing a workout time. I would recommend this location. read more

Planet Fitness is the WORST! DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. I called and requested that they remove my card/account information from an account that isn't even in my name(transferred membership)and customer service told me it was done and documented the account. They then continued to debit my account for 2 months. I called the garner location and spoke with asst manager Gabrielle who said they left me a vm refusing to refund my money which is a lie bc my vm has been full for 6months. Therefore refusing to refund me after being misled by an employee. They will avoid accountability at all cost. read more

I appreciate the ease of navigating the Planet Fitness Garner location. Large bright signs made it simple to find amenities such as water, restrooms, fitness rooms, & more. This location has a wide variety of equipment, organized in a way that makes training specific areas of the body efficient. Although I visited during peak hours with many members in attendance, it did not feel too crowded or overwhelming and I was able to utilize all the equipment with little to no wait times; the space makes for a great workout spot to practice quality social-fitnessing. I am grateful for friendly & accommodating staff members who were quick to answer any questions and attend to any needs. Highly recommended! read more

I have been coming to this gym for years. It has changed and grown over the years to accommodate the growth of the Garner area. The equipment is plentiful and depending on the time of day you can usually get the machine you need fairly quickly. So grateful to be able to work out again! The staff were helpful and friendly! The new guidelines were explained to me and they answered all of my questions! They have marked machines for use to keep people socially distanced, they have cleaning stations marked well and in several locations throughout the gym. I feel safe working out again. This gym needs a upgrade. Either the equipment is torn up/ and or out dated. However for it to be running 24/7 it is pretty clean. Also they need another location because it looks like it gets busy, and me waiting for someone to get finished while I am on pre-workout isn't good. I have been a member at this Planet Fitness location for about two years now and overall I am very happy with my time here. I have not gone to other Planet Fitness locations to compare. My trips and goals throughout my time at this location have changed so I will try to cover most of the areas in this review. At the time I started going, I was a guest of a friend who was looking for some additional support in going. I was primarily interested in cardio and conditioning at the time. We would typically arrive during the weekends around 6:00pm. This is obviously a peak time but even still, there were always treadmills and elliptical available. The numerous TVs are a nice feature though I rarely watch or listen to them. As time went on I wanted to do more strength training and weights as I eased into this area of the gym. I first used many of the machines. Again, while going at such a peak time, I did find that it was a little more of a challenge to catch specific machines open. Most of the machines are in pairs so popular ones can become tough to use during peak times. Recently, my times of visits vary. Typically three times a week I go at 6:00am which is very convenient as most of the gym is wide open. There is no difficulty getting to a treadmill or even having my pick in front of a TV if I do want to zone out to some ESPN highlights or something. The machines are generally all open as well. I have found great use of the 12-minute-abs section. Though I have never seen anybody follow the 12-minute-ab routine as is described in the initial registration walk through but the machines there have been very useful and are almost always available regardless of time of day. I prefer the inclined benches for difficult sit ups as well as the 'machine' for strengthening your lower back. Additionally, I also frequently use the benches, of which there are six in this location. During non-peak hours it is usually easy to find an open one. The additional free weights and combo machines for various arm and leg strengthening exercises which are all right next to each other make it very easy to alternate between routines across various machines/benches. Very rarely have I been unable to use the machine or bench I'd like even during peak times. Other areas worth mentioning would be the clientele. You see the different groups of people at the different times. During peak hours is when you will find more of the 'serious' gym goers. Outside of peak hours is when you tend to see more casual gym users. I haven't found the serious users to be intimidating but have found myself taking notes of some of their exercises and routines and incorporate new motions and practices into my routine. So they serve as a good resource to push yourself and try some new routines. I am, however, unsure of the unspoken etiquette of the gym in terms of cleanliness. Is a person suppose to wipe down before they start a new machine or after? I tend to err on the side of caution and do both. However, I have found numerous people who do not wipe down benches or machines which doesn't sit all too well with me. Although, I just then ensure I wipe whatever it is down thoroughly before I use it. Overall, though, people seem to keep things clean and orderly while following the 'No Gymtimidation' mantra of Planet Fitness. I really can't think of any bad experiences I have had with Planet Fitness and for it's cost, the convenience it serves is great. The weekend hours would be my biggest complaint as those are the days I find it hardest to get to the gym between their 7:00a-7:00p hours. Weekdays are 24 hours though which fits my schedule much better. Overall, I'm happy with my choice to become a member here. First, let me say that I have no idea what a fellow reviewer is talking about when he says Planet Fitness has a dress code. I mean, of course, don't show the world your goodies, but people dress like they would at any other gym I've been too. Second, I love Garner PF. I joined about two years ago after going to another gym in the area. I was hesitate to join b/c my previous gym had group classes and PF does not. While I miss having group classes (step, kickboxing, spinning, etc), PF is very friendly, convenient (at least for me), cheaper (I pay $10 per month), and I pretty much always find open equipment rather it's free weights or a machine. Monday nights are the worst, but I think that's normal for most places. It's much cleaner than my previous gym as well. You typically see staff wiping down equipment and mopping/sweeping while you're working out. I would give Garner PF five stars, but I do miss my group classes.... although not enough to pay $45/month like I was at my old gym. read more

I have really been pleased with this Planet Fitness. The workout room is spacious with plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, and arc trainers available at even the busiest times. The weight machines are organized in areas of focus so that you can move right down the line of abs, arms, chest, and legs. We tried the 30-minuter workout which was surprisingly challenging and slightly exhausting! If you upgrade to a "black" membership for $20 per year instead of $10, you get access to the massage chairs, tanning beds and hydro-massager. Plus, you can bring a guest every time. This worked out great for our daughter who likes to bring any number of friends. (Note: kids 13 years and older can join with their parents or 18+ adult.) They have 1/2 hour group classes that are free to members and focus on various areas such as abs, arms, legs, etc. They also provided us with a graph that showed the number of people in the gym during each hour of the week so that we can plan to go at times that are less busy. The staff are super friendly. The machines are clean and it seems common knowledge that everyone wipe down the machines with the provided Planet Fitness cleaner when they're done using them. I haven't seen evidence of one person leaving a machine without wiping it down. There are two long banks of televisions that allow you to enjoy the shows while working out... nearly every station you can think of it featured! Simply plug your headphones into any of the machines. You'll find young and old, large and small, beefy and flabby at PF, but there is no judgement from any of the gym enthusiasts. Everyone is courteous and welcoming. We love it! read more

The equipment is in good condition, repairs are done quickly. Planet Fitness is a great place to get into shape and is adequate for most fitness enthusiasts. If you're looking for a hard core free weight facility, this place isn't for you. Planet Fitness isn't perfect, but based on the dues of $10 per month, I feel it warrants 5 stars. read more

So, I canceled a membership at Fitness Connection that I had had for years in order to join a Planet Fitness that is literally one mile from my home and couldn't help but think that I had stumbled on to such a great deal. When I first walked into the gym I noticed that it was pretty heavy on treadmills and useless "weight" machines, but there were a couple of benches in the back and I found some new and creative ways to adapt my workout to the available smith machines and Olympic bars. As I used the gym I found that it was merely adequate as the few available benches were always busy and the waits to get to the actual weights were typically pretty long, but I made do. Sadly, I walked into the gym tonight after taking a weekend off to rest to find that near all of the free weight equipment at the gym was gone! If there was a warning or any sort of notice of the upcoming change I must have missed it as I was shocked to learn from the kid behind the counter that Planet Fitness' upper management had made the decision to phase out all of their free weights in their newer "gyms". Note there are a few racks of light dumb bells and some smith machines still available, but I for one have never enjoyed the range of motion made available by a smith machine. I cannot believe that they removed all of their free weights and that now I have to go back to Fitness Connection and pay God only knows what for their initiation fees to be able to access a gym with some honest to God weights in it. I am very disappointed with this decision by Planet Fitness and have to say that I will never again pay for a membership at one of these "gyms". Whats more, while I am happy that they are going to seemingly "let me out" of the contract I signed with them, I believe that this amounts to a kind of "bait and switch" and would like them to cover the cost of buying me back into a real "gym". read more

Nice gym, but billing/customer service sucks! I was double billed for 8 months over $200.00. Spent hours on phone and email trying to resolve... went into gym and talked with manager, who told me it would take another 2 weeks. When I told him I wanted to quit from all the frustration, they wouldn't even waive the cancellation fee... wanted to charge me more, even after all I had been through. I have tried numerous times to get assistance by dialing the 877 # and consistently placed in a queue for assistance. NO HELP! Why are you doing ACH withdrawn from my checking account. I have not been a member for over 2 years. All of a sudden there has been one ACH at $4.00 in September, and then two ACH (Oct and Nov) withdraws at $10.00 each. I know we were in a pandemic but that is no reason to unlawfully withdrawn monies from consumers. I've been a member at several different gyms, as I've moved a lot in the past several years, and I think Planet Fitness is the best one so far! It is the most cost efficient and I love that I can bring a guest, no questions asked, any and every time I want! This means my husband and I can both work out for the price of one. I can see how it wouldn't be worth it for couples/friends who have differing schedules, but in my case its perfect! Also, its HUGE..I don't anticipate ever having trouble finding an empty elliptical or treadmill, even at peak hours. I appreciate that PF has a flyer stating their peak hours, so if you'd rather not work out with the masses, you can plan around those times. Furthermore, this is the cleanest gym I've ever been in to. For the amount of people and machines in here, I am amazed. I have been to much smaller, spa-like gyms with high membership fees, that were not as well kept! Every time I've been, staff are wiping machines and cleaning surfaces. There are tons of "clean stations" where you can clean off the equipment you've used and most people use them. Cons: If you are a body builder, this is not the place for you. The staff even told me that when I signed up. Also, I have yet to see any body weight scales, something I've never seen a gym without. Maybe they're there? In a hidden location?? And last, no yoga, zumba, spin, etc. classes. Although a personal trainer will tailor work outs for you and guides some full body workout class in the "30 minute work out" set up they have. read more

I have been going here about 5 months and I would say it is probably my favorite gym yet. It really is a relaxed atmosphere and unlike other gyms, you don't notice personal trainers stalking you trying to get you to buy personal training sessions with them, or micromanaging the way you are using the weight machine (when you didn't ask!). It is a very good value, and the staff is always exceptionally friendly. They are very impressive. They always say hello and goodbye and never try to sell, sell, sell. Only reason it is not 5 stars is that it is too crowded and everyone I talk to who goes there is a little grumpy with how long the construction is taking to expand the place. read more

Okay first time to planet fitness and lo and behold two of my friends go here! It is obviously the most budget friendly gym and so it attracts a lot of people in their twenties and thirties. I personally enjoy it more knowing that all these people are struggling to get fit just like me. The facilities overall were very clean and spacious. They had enough machines so that even during the busiest point of the day you never had to choose a different machine due to one being full.
