Do NOT, I repeat, Do NOT join this gym. Broken machines, no employees monitoring the timed stations and no help by staff. To top it off, when you join and ask them when your annual payment will be deducted from your bank account, they shrug and say "don't worry, sometime next month", only to take it out on the 1st of the month days later. When I started a dispute with my bank, it was resolved with their bank and I was reimbursed the $59 fee plus a late fee. Instead, I keep getting billed for more and more. When I call their billing company, they tell me to contact my home gym. The manager there, MAYA, refuses to help me & now my bill is up to $104 for a gym membership that I cancelled on February 11th and have not attended since January. Buyers beware!!!! read more

I have been a member of PF for a decade so far so good until now. The gym looks like if it will be closing its doors soon. On the main floor alone there are 6 Elliptical machines "out of order", (OOO), a "bike" a machine similar to the Elliptical but sitting also OOO, out of 4 Massage Chairs only 2 working. There are no merchandise on the wall, no pens, no purple tootsie rolls, no protein bars. What is happening, It's a shame. read more

There really should be an option for "0 Stars". YELP, get in that ASAP! I cancelled my membership in 2022 due to the fact that due I became permanently blind after a surgery gone wrong. As much as I tried(with assistance) to work out, the Great Neck gym was not designed for those with disabilities such as mine. The front desk apologized. I reported this to the department who handles issues with the American With Disabilities Act. A federal law. I never received a receipt of cancellation in writing, on their app, or any other form. My problem with Planet Fitness escalated after I had realized they had continued to charge me monthly for 1.5 years. Speaking to Great Necks manager I was first offered $100. I did not accept. I explained I had medical setbacks and was hospitalized for a long time. My health proxy and POA became responsible for basic bills and utilities. They themselves didn't notice the charge. I called back to have a further discussion and brought up ADA which then the manager offered 4 months refund, which I accepted even though it was not justifiable. I decided to pursue calling corporate and filed a claim, which was later denied. Currently the remaining balance has been added to my lawsuit with the help of the Attorney General who addresses cases involving ADA violations and consumer theft. Planet Fitness began screening my calls and no longer answers to any form of contact. People with disabilities need to stand up and speak up fortheir rights. A ramp is not enough. Good for some but not enough for me. Not all disabled people are the same. There's a huge misconception and not enough railings and guiding installed in gyms and other companies. So I was a member at planet fitness for years when I lived in Astoria , because they were located on Steinway that was super convenient and not for nothing the $10 a month membership was pretty nice compared to other gyms that cost triple that amount . The gym was nice , they had plenty of machines , tanning beds , comfortable lounge chairs and every Tuesday that had pizza . The down side is the clientele was kinda young and the machines where never really cleaned well from the person using it before you . Don't come here if you have to come at night time. A worker yells extremely loud in a drill sargeant voice every 2 minutes about 15-20 minutes before closing that the place needs to be cleared. It is literally every two minutes and annoyingly loud. If the place closes at 10, we are paying for an enjoyable workout until then, not an anxiety ridden workout while getting yelled at. I have been to other planet fitness locations especially the one in Los Angeles near downtown was disgusting literally!! This location is clean and come on who can possibly beat $10 deal. I had a membership at LA fitness but it was too pricey for me and needed something more affordable. For most individuals it matters if theres a swimming pool, towel services, and sauna but for me all those things don't matter. There's an area for abs, complete body workout, weights, treadmill and many other machines. I never use their bathroom but they have locker area and showers. Personally even if this was some high end gym I'd still shower at home. Parking is an issue when it's busy because the gym is located in a shopping center complex. But evening time is not bad at all. I either workout in the morning or in the evening therefore never had an issue with parking. Weekends are my favorite since nobody wants to workout the gym is usually not so busy. A sink in the men's bathroom has not been working for several weeks now. There are papers and refuse on the floors that are not picked up. The staff is pleasant, but unconcerned. I dont know why there's so many bad reviews of this gym, clearly people are being picky about things that planet fitness never promised. 1 this is not a private home gym. it's going to be busy at times. maybe come at a different point in your day if that makes you so upset to leave a bad review. 2 great promotion to let high schoolers use the facilities and instead of discouraging them maybe help them with machines/work out routines since you are so old and experienced! I feel very comfortable coming to this gym. All the machines are easy to find and there's usually two of each which is very convenient considering people waiting while you're finishing your reps is a bit anxiety inducing. The AC is always blasting which i appreciate in this heat. I actually recommended this location to a bunch of my friends. 10/10 from me. If you're looking for more of a private gym take your $10 to equinox....but you'll be out of another $200 and i'm sure there is traffic there too...it's a public space! read more

I love this gym, a lot more than my home gym. This is what I love about the gym, I love the dim lights! It def has a working out in your basement kind of vibe. I hate super bright lights so the dim lights are a plus for me. Also, I love the old machines! Some of the newer machines at the other PF's, they're not designed as well! Something about them I Just dont feel like they workout the spots I want. Now to the cons, though the pros outweigh the cons. The Glute machine needs some WD-40. When I say the machines here are old, Im not kidding. They look like they havent been upgraded in years. The biggest con of this gym applies to all PF's which is the check-in process. Omg, I hate it so much. The app fails to load the membership card in a timely matter. What pisses me off 1000% more is when the workers tell me "You can take a screenshot of it".... which number 1, is still inconvieant and number 2, just a workaround to their crappy app! Place is clean. Equipment gets repaired in a reasonable amount of time. Price is right. One star deduction for the 30 minute workout area. I like it as it's a quick way to get an efficient full body workout. People use it as an overflow area and do not let someone doing the circuit work through. Staff never police the area so more often than not you can't get through without a hostile moment. But for $10 a month I'll deal with it. Can't beat $10 but you pay for what you get. I've been working out here for the past 4+ years and i still like it overall. Enough machines i can hit every muscle and weights like barbells and dumb bells up to 70 i think? Not that i am lifting that heavy although i wish they had squat racks or heavier barbells but that's the point not to have super heavy lifters/gymrats there. Mix of elderly, beginners and more athletic younger people there. Haven't had too many problems getting equipment but it does get crowded during rush hour obviously but i can always find another thing to do. No yoga balls, steps, box jumps, ropes either that you may find at other more expensive gyms. Pretty big area for cardio and floor work like abs and ballet bar. Only thing i don't like is that women leave their stuff in 1/2 changing rooms for the showers (3) making it difficult for other people to use the changing rooms. Bring your own towels and bath stuff. Generally clean and they switch out the paper towels/clenaing spray fairly often but sometimes the locker rooms can get a bit messy. Pizza on the first monday of the month these people are savages taking 2-4 pieces soem to eat there and then to take home so get it quick. Comes on the hour line up. Bagels on the second tuesday of the month i believe never been there for it though. read more

Let me start by saying this is a review of Planet Fitness in general and not this particular location. The staff at this location have always been nice and they keep the place pretty clean. When I went to cancel my membership it was painless and took less than 5 minutes. Planet Fitness is not a gym in the traditional sense. They pride themselves on their slogan "The judgement free zone." It is ironic they say this because while they are open to people who have never been to a gym before, they look down on the regular weight lifter, or as they like to call them "lunks." A "lunk" is someone who has any shred of visible muscle and knows how to workout. There is a "lunk alarm" that the staff members can press when they feel people are being too loud or dropping their weights. I don't know how they can legally get away with such a liability, because someone can get startled by this rude and obnoxious alarm and possibly injure themselves in the middle of a set. Planet Fitness is dirt cheap and you get what you pay for. For only $10 a month you basically get half of the equipment that you would get in a regular gym. There are no squat racks/barbells, rather Planet Fitness is equipped with smith machines. Smith machines are not effective for squatting, dead lifting, and bench pressing. If you are using the smith machines for these exercises you will lack critical stimulation of stabilizer muscles that help you lift more weight. The dumbbells only go up to 75 pounds, which for most people is fine, but for anyone who lifts regularly you will soon run out of dumbbells to use. A place with fitness in the name usually means that you would be entering a place that encourages a healthy lifestyle. The word "fitness" mean pizza and bagels to Planet Fitness, because that is what they serve the gym goers. I don't understand how any self respecting business can call themselves a gym when they serve food like this to the people that go there. I am convinced they do this to keep people fat and to keep them from going to a real gym because if they are eating pizza and bagels everyday they will not progress and they won't realize that they are not in a real gym. Honestly if you are looking to join a gym please do yourself a favor and avoid Planet Fitness like the plague. It is not a real gym and you can accomplish more in an actual gym in 3 months than you can in a lifetime at Planet Fitness. Spend the extra 15-20 dollars and get a real gym membership, and workout in a place that doesn't shun avid lifters. read more

Since this review, Planet Fitness has really improved their gym experience. They revamped the gym to have modern equipment (treadmills,ellipticals and rowers) and have an organized system for the hydro massage bed. (Its now a touch screen where you chose a time slot for an available bed.) The staff is very welcoming and attentive to concerns brought to their attention by members. Overall, happy with my $20 gym membership. -1 star because I have seen a roof leaks in sections of the gym a couple of times. read more

Now I've been a member here for awhile. Take into account I'm the type of person to just show up do my work out and leave, but what I saw today really disgusted me. I saw 5 people within 45mins not wipe down their equipment but that's not the worst part. I saw a guy lift his shirt up RUB and SCRATCH his stomach and continue to work out only to finish his work out and walk out not wiping anything down. If you're looking at this PF, chances are you are in and around the Queens area and the Astoria PF is another option. So I'll write this as a compare/contrast piece for you (I reviewed the Astoria one last year, as a reference): Facility: Great Neck This is newer, larger, and has less people. Only wait time is for the fly machine (same problem in Astoria - only one of these. A second would be helpful). Plus, as a new facility with new machines and more open space...it smells less like a gym. One thing though - bring a hoodie! There are spots where the air conditioning and fans will blow right on you and it will be COLD. Parking: Great Neck It has a shared parking lot and it is free, vs. metered street parking in (a very busy) Astoria. And during snow storms...definitely go to Great Neck. Much easier to find a spot when all the snow is just piled up in a couple of places in the lot. Food Options: Astoria Chipotle, Cheeburger Cheeburger, and a Japanese restaurant just can't compare to all the eats in Astoria...which may actually be a vote in Great Neck's favor if you're not a fatass like me. Eye Candy: Astoria Wait, you come to the gym to check people out? How dare you! I'm judging you right now. But if that's what you come for, go to Astoria. Sorry GN, but the truth is the truth. I love this place . The staff are awesome and try hard to keep it so clean. The problem here is the customers. 90% of the people here don't wipe the equipment when they are done. A lot of times they are dirty looking. There are signs everywhere asking for people to wipe machines. It should be common sense but they don't. They sweat all over the equipment then just move on. It's really disgusting. They provide sanitizer spray and paper towels. If you go here and you don't want someone's parasite or rash I highly recommend you wipe each machine before use. read more
