I finally went back in. Still the same, how are you doing, ad you are here kinda place. Everything was clean and in place. The staff outnumbered the number of peoe working out because the work crowd just left. I used the app to te when the gym would be less occupied. I used the treadmill and the resistance machines. Everything operated well. The staff checked in with in ut did not hover over me. I used the massage chair. It was pleasant and quick. I will be back. I wish they sold earphones. read more

The tanning rooms are filthy. I understand it is up to members to clean the beds. That's fine. BUT! The floors are nasty. They are so dirty with all kinds of little debris all over. I mention it to the front desk staff (3 of there were standing there) and today they look even worse than before. That's just disgusting. I work out here very frequently. I have the blackcard membership which is $19 a month. This is smart because you can bring guest, use the hydro massage table, massage chairs, tan, or vibration plate also. I like that they keep this gym clean. I have never not seen this gym clean and they even try to keep it smelling good too. Lockers room shave showers, bathrooms, mirrors, and lockers. This helps in case you have to be somewhere directly after your workout but don't have time to go home first. I love my gym,! I started working out here last summer at 225 lbs and now I'm 164. I have never tried any classes, but with my schedule I frequent the after 9pm. There are no night classes available. If your looking for a gym to be comfortable with at levels of fitness goals. Who encourage normal healthy habits but also encourage balance (they have pizza parties on Fridays) then this is it! read more

A question that comes up for me pretty regularly is, "What do you do when you have an hour to kill?" Should I eat? Shop? Social network? Lately, the ominous voice in my head has answered , "Go to the gym, my son!" While waiting for the break between my sons' science fair presentations, I figured I would see what I could do for about an hour and a 1/2. Unlike 5 years ago when I initially joined, there seems to be a wealth of Planet Fitness's around for the partaking, which is why I decided to upgrade to the Black Card. So, I popped over and walked in. First off, I don't care which planet fitness I go to, the staff are always extremely kind and friendly, and this place was no exception. That's always a welcome sign to help eliminate the anxiety of walking into an establishment that you haven't visited before. Once inside, I noticed the immediate similarities to the Planet Fitness in Virginia Beach off of Holland Road. They have much more updated equipment than my usual spot in Newport News, but it was one of the first in the area. It feels a little smaller than some of the other PFs, but it still had what I needed. I have noticed that the new PFs have a 20 minute ab area, and i find that to be a good reminder to me that it's something that I should be doing in addition to my scheduled workout routine. I appreciate that it's sectioned off, but it's a shame that some ab equipment is ONLY in that area. So if you want to do multiple reps on one of these exclusive machines, you have to make sure no one is partaking of the circuit. The locker room is pretty standard. I appreciate that every planet fitness I have been in has lockers that are full-length so I can hang up my dress shirt and overcoat, if I happen to be wearing those items that day. I saw that there is a 2nd floor area, which some ellipticals and televisions, but I didn't roam around to find out more. When I go back, I hope to do a little more inquisitive snooping, but I was on a pretty short window of time. All in all, it was a great experience. If I am in the area, and have an hour to kill, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in and donate some sweat. read more

They have been pulling membership fees for almost 2 years now and I left the area due to the pandemic and when I call to cancel it, they say I have to come up there to cancel or write a letter. I should just be able to call and nothing else. Why the heck would I come to a gym in a pandemic or even at this moment when cases are still rising. They don't care about people and what they are going through they will take your money anyways even when they see for themselves you haven't checked into that gym in years. Steadily pulling monthly and yearly fees after I called repeatedly to cancel. Although small this place is great, it offers classes, massage chairs, water beds, the usual planet fitness stuff. I enjoy talking with the staff, they make the environment very friendly. The best time to go is later in the evening because for the afternoon til about 7pm it will be packed. Most people who attend this location use the machines more so if you are going just for cardio anytime will be sufficient. read more

I, like most people, want to listen to my own music when I work out. It's nearly impossible to do so at Planet Fitness. They play their music so ear shatteringly loud I had to buy noise cancelling headphones to hear my own music. And even then I can still hear their loud music that they say they can't turn down when I ask. I'm fed up and searching for another gym. When I do I will cancel my membership. read more

I rock with PF. Not even mad at it. I had zero expectations when I signed up. I just did it because it was cheap. But...it's clean, the staff doesn't suck for all intents and purposes, and even when it's busy I still have space to do what I need to do. As far as the equipment goes it seems to be worth $23 a month. I used a tanning bed a lot and it's never clean. Of course it's really courtesy for a customer to clean it after they're done but people are slobs over there and being that that is the case once in a while the staff should go in there and wipe down the scaly skin sweat and hair that's always on there. But the biggest problem is they water down to disinfect it. I know this for a fact and one of the employees actually told me this but I'm not gonna say his name. I just straight out asked him. When Covid first started their hand sanitizer and disinfectant for the machines had a very obvious smell. As time went on it got thinner and the smell went away. At this point it's just Blue water. So I have to bring me home which is not a problem except you have to carry it in and out of there and then bring it back to my car. I received a response. I have talking to the manager. Usually it's just the same person who's cleaning up and I always get the response, the customers responsible for that but I'll go take a look. This is pointless. read more

Joined this gym a few weeks ago and have nothing but positive things to say about this place. When asking about memberships, the staff at the front desk were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about helping us join and showed us all of the different areas throughout the gym. One of the major perks for me was that for $19.99 a month you get unlimited access to everything in the gym (including tanning, total body enhancement, hydromassage, and massage chairs). I was paying over $50 a month for tanning at another local salon so for $19.99 a month I can get gym membership and tanning? Sign me up! They also offer bagels to memebers on the first Tuesday morning of the month (I believe that's right) and pizza to members on the second Monday of the month (I could have these mixed up). Anyway they offer free perks! Included in your membership is also unlimited access to any of the programs they have throughout the week to focus on different areas of your body. For these, you must sign up for the classes/programs. They typically range from 30-60 mins. The facility is very clean and members are very respectful of each other. I actually enjoy going to the gym now and I highly recommend this place. read more

Good price... $10. The shopping center is being renovated, so there are a lot of vacancies. They could use more lights outside until traffic there picks up. Inside it is nice. Lots of televisions on the ceiling to look at while doing cardio. But, the Weight area has a lunk alarm, so I don't think the folk who go there care much for such. They seem to have lots of rules for a "gym". It is a lot cheaper than other nearby gyms... Good if you are on a budget ...and if you get lazy for a month, you just wasted less than $20 even with their pricier option. read more

I got the PF black card and this is my home club. The gym is overall very good and the community there is not that bad either. I've had conversations with other members there. I frequently bring my mother in as a guest. I have not tried any of their classes but, the classes seem like they would be pretty good. The equipment is usually clean and the one time someone was being rude and saying that "they did not need to clean their equipment" the staff did seem to talk to them. Bathrooms/showers could use some work now and again but, are satisfactory. I go there to work out, not eat off their floors. I really like the features of the black card and because I bring my mom in it's like two memberships but better. The annual fee blindsided us a bit but, wasn't too bad. The other features of the black card include massage chairs (which recently got upgraded), hydrobed massage, tanning booth (not for me), and the red room Beauty angel viberashake thing. Yeah, I dunno if it really does anything but, I use it pretty frequently because it does make me feel better even if it might be a placebo. This is like the 6th time this month, I thought they had rules in regards to dress codes. I tried to wear a sports bra, more like sport tank one time. They told me I had to have a shirt on. I've seen 6 women this week with sports bras only to workout!!!!!!!!!! So uncomfortable to see their breasts almost popping out while I was told I couldn't. read more

This Planet Fitness is centrally located in Hampton. It is clean and has friendly staff. Even at its busiest times, there are always machines open for use. My only complaint is that personal trainer businesses seem to have taken over many of the night peak times. Tonight, a female trainer had someone with her shooting videos and taking pictures in the ab section, which is where I was working out. I left the circuit area because I did not want to be photographed. She was even approaching PF patrons trying to recruit customers. Planet Fitness personnel were overwhelmed at the desk and did not seem to be aware this was going on. This isn't the first time I have seen something like this happen. It would make the gym experience more enjoyable if the staff was able to walk around and prevent things like this from happening. read more

I have been coming to this gym for 4 years. I know the faces of all the staff. I have watched the staff members change throughout the years. I have even seen some of the employees from Newport News transfer to the Hampton location. None of them have bothered me until this year! One of your NEW employees named SAMANTHA has irked me FOUR times in ONE YEAR. She is of mixed Spanish decent, around 5'0", a tad bit of fluff on her, has long black hair and occasionally wears glasses. 1st time - I walked in the gym with my head phones on per usual. Samantha and 2 other new girls are sitting there gossiping. I sit there for about a min and 2 other people come in after me and we now have a line of three people. Samantha and her friends took about a min to realize that gym members were waiting to have their tags scanned so we could begin our workout. They looked really into their conversation and I would have felt rude if I interrupted them to remind them to do their job for about 15seconds. I guess the two other people behind me felt the same way as they didn't interrupt Samantha and her friends. NO BIG DEAL, RIGHT? Lets continue onward! 2nd - this happened recently. And actually led to me writing my reviews of SAMANTHA! Its 8am and I just finished a set on the machine. The gym is empty. No more than 15 people here because its so early. I'm working my legs out and I just finished a set. SAMANTHA comes and taps me on the shoulder and says "You can't sit on the machines in between sets". And of course I look at her like "what the fuck are you saying"? Thats how working out works. You do a set and rest for like a min and then you do another set. I hadn't been on the machine long. NO more than 3mins top! There wasn't a line of people waiting to use the seated leg curl machine at 8am on Saturday morning. And if there was, THERE IS AN IDENTICAL MACHINE 3 FEET AWAY THAT WAS WIDE OPEN! However, that didn't stop SAMANTHA from coming up to me and telling me that I need to get up & stand by the machine for about a minute in between EVERY SET! I began to question if Samantha had ever worked out or lifted a weight in her life. I had never heard something so ridiculous before. No employee had ever said anything to me about this while I was working out at this gym for the past 4 years EXCEPT SAMANTHA. 3rd - SAMANTHA taps me on the shoulder and says "gym bags aren't allowed outside of the locker rooms"? I have simple draw string bag that I carry my phone, keys, wallet, gloves, and water in. It's no bigger than a purse. You might fit ONE textbook in it, at most! It was under the bench that I was working on. It wasn't in the walk way or in anybody's way, but yet it bothered SAMANTHA enough to come talk to me. I have had this same bag for 4 years & have been using it at THIS LOCATION for 4 years. And this new hire, SAMANTHA, who hasn't even been here half a year, decides to tell me I have to place it in the locker room? I don't trust locker rooms! So I have always carried my bag with me. It was never a problem throughout my 4 years of being a customer here, until SAMANTHA! This is Hampton, Virginia. This isn't exactly the safest area. This isn't the place where you would ask your neighbors for a cup of sugar. 4th- When I walk into the gym, I have a key-chain card that they scan. It gets scanned and I continue to go on about my business. The employees see me walking in and they grab the scanner and hold it out and then I hold my card out and it gets scanned. That is the USUAL process of how things have been going for the past 4 years. Unfortunately, I run into SAMANTHA AGAIN. So I walk in and Im at the desk. I have my key-tag in my hand by my side waiting to be scanned. Samantha, unlike all the employees for the past 4 years just stairs at me. She just awkwardly stairs at me like shes waiting for something? And I'm thinking to myself "what the fuck is going on?" Members will use machines extra long if they see you want to use such equipment.
