Planet Fitness is a staple if you're looking for an inexpensive place to work out or just walk. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, clean showers and dressing rooms, (free soap in the shower just in case you forget!). I'm in outside sales so I take advantage of the "on the road" clubs when traveling. Updating: Updating because I'm upset (lol). I went to freeze my account because I couldn't use it for a month. I was told about a missed fee (not sure how that happen, you give them your account numbers and they pull payment from there) and then a late fee. The late fee was charged after I have been going for a while, I was even there the day before. Since being charged this fee I've been over 10 times. I was not told until until just now. Over 2 months later. I find this pretty bad, and am not happy. It was only $10 but the lack of heads up is annoying. Especially since there are between 2-6 people behind the desk and they HAVE to check you in. I get it if I did it myself. The lack of email is annoying as well. I get them for everything else. Old review: It's a normal Planet Fitness. If you're looking for a gym this one is pretty good for the price. The front desk is helpful enough. You generally will probably only interact with them once when you sign up and then maybe a small amount when they check you in. They give you some information when you sign up about when it's busy and perks, etc. There are a bunch of machines, olipticals, treadmills, dumbbells, etc. No free weights. Overall, I like it for the convenience and the location! I generally don't have much of an issue getting what I want done when I want to. read more

Tried to cancel my membership MONTHS AGO and was told i had no choice but to come in. I EXPLAINED I WAS NOT IN TEXAS! She would not cancel my membership! I have been getting charged for MONTHS. Suddenly when I call today i am allowed to email my cancellation? POOR MANAGEMENT; IT WAS A MANAGER THAT SCAMMED ME THE FIRST TIME. Shame on her, I will NEVER BE BACK. Update: I would also like to add that I chose to attend a different gym because as my workouts advanced the equipment at PF was not adequate for my workouts. Okay, so the thing about Planet Fitness, not a bad thing, is that I see it as a gym for someone who is trying to start working out and meet new goals that they've never had before. If you are someone like myself that has gone through workouts for sports and has been working out for a while, it's not the gym for you. There are NO BARBELLS for squat, bench press, deadlift, etc. Thus, Planet Fitness is a beginner gym or for someone who doesn't need the lifting types of workouts. POSITIVE: The facilities are super clean and offer a lot of different machines to workout on. The staff is always friendly and you are never judged, atleast I hope not. This place seems like a good place for college students to work out because of the clean facilities and the low cost but they hide so many fees. There is the joining fee and a "annual fee" that I never heard about until they charged it to my card and i called and asked about it.:/ read more

save your money and go to a real gym. I was actually told that I couldn't bring an Epipen into the gym because "someone could steal it and kill some one with it". This is no joke. Thats what was told to me. I complained that an epipen is a life saving prescription that is used during emergency anaphylaxis. This is a very basic gym! If all you're looking for is a place with the equipment you need to workout - then this is it. For only $10/month it is definitely worth it! I live in the south side of Lubbock. There aren't any gyms in this area that are are clean, open 24 hours, and as cheap! I've never been to Freedom Fitness, I believe it's also $10/month - but it's north of the Tech campus and I don't need the longer drive/distance to create a barrier from working out! Pros: - open 24 hours! - clean! (and members look like they do a good job cleaning equipment after use) - a lot of variety in equipment. also plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, etc. - no fee for locker use, just have to provide your own lock. - showers - tanning beds (free with the "black card" membership) Cons: - no classes (this isn't a problem for me, but could be for others) - no childcare (again, not a problem for me...) read more

This is the only one in Lubbock. This is a nice open format. Plenty of cardio and sections separated for the abs, 30 min, free weights, and other equipment. Locker room is spacious and easy to navigate. Now that the niceties are out of the way, let's get down to it. I travel 11 months out of the year. I go to many different pf and other gyms. The front desk staff is attentive and pleasant. They are however gym "nazis". You will need your id every time. Even if they have seen you a few hours before. You bring a plus one and they need their id also. Take your sweatshirt to the workout floor and hang it on a piece of equipment and they will make rounds hounding you about it. read more

The gym itself is decent enough, but I tried to cancel several months ago due to health issues. Stopped in and talked to the person at the desk and was assured my membership was cancelled. I rarely use the bank account that was linked to my membership, so imagine my surprise when I discovered I was still being billed several months later! I sent a message through the website only to get back a basic form letter with the cancellation policies, which said stop by your local club, etc. I DID THAT! No I didn't fill out a form because no one gave me one to fill out! I was assured by the desk person that my membership was cancelled and I thought that was the end of it. Ugh! This gym has so much potential. I mean it is a HUGE location. They have the potential to make it the best gym in town, but they have filled it up to maybe 65% capacity with machines. It's like there's one small machine for every 15 feet of space. I see complaints about machines in the other reviews, and before I went in I was thinking that Planet Fitness generally stays away from squat racks and bench presses to opt for Smith Machines, which is fine. But when I went in, it's the QUANTITY of machines that needs to be fixed. They need another 20 machines or so to get another star. read more

Just go to Bodyworks! This gym is minimal at best and makes NO attempt at accommodating members' special needs. Refused to allow a member who had two allergic reactions to cleaning products used on equipment to carry an epipen. Management refused to respond to series of 5 e-mails. read more

I've had my gym membership for only a year now, but each time I come the staff is always super friendly and I love coming! It's such a great place to work out. If you're the shy type of person I wouldn't recommend coming to PF because it's really just a lot of machines in ONE big room. Where as if you're shy, and prefer to be in an "all women's room" or an "all male" room, this is not the place for ya. It's a great environment with great people though. And the massage chairs are amaaaazing. Of course you have to have the black card membership to access them, but hey, what's 20 bucks for unlimited massage times? They even offer a free trainer, you just have to sign up and schedule a time you would want to meet with them. read more

Dear sirs: So i guess this is where I get to blow off steam. In 2011 I joined Planet Fitness and was a member until 2014 when I move to a small town in Wyoming where there wasn't a club to join. I moved to Arizona in 2016 and right away joined Planet Fitness again as a black card member. Once again I moved to Lubbock, TX in 2018 where I had to cancel my membership because I didn't have a job yet. So here's the issue, now I'm employed and there is a Planet Fitness on my way home. I stopped in to see if I could get a week pass so I could see if stopping there would be better than going to the gym that my apartment complex offers (for FREE) and they wanted to charge me $27 for that week. With the special they are running I could join for less than that. Of course the gentleman behind the desk did tell me I could go to their competitor Crunch Fitness they would give me a week pass. Imagine that recommending I go to their competitor. With the special they were running I could have joined for less. So I guess being a previous member for over 5 yrs meant nothing.
