The machines are extremely old and battered. The front desk people are cold and do not greet you unless you're a one of their 'regulars'. There are a group of people who think they run this gym and will give you ugly looks as if you don't belong here. The only upside is that this is a small gym and not a corp gym like Crunch or Planet Fitness. Spend you money elsewhere, these people are not good people. read more

Love this gym! I am in town on business for a few months. So glad I found this club. I've been working out for 20+ years and have been to different gyms all over the country. If you're looking for a place to train in Lubbock, look no further than Zach's Club. I'm not saying that because I'm a Dolphins fan and I love Zach Thomas either. I didn't even realize it was Zach Thomas's gym until I saw the giant photo of him in his Miami Dolphins linebacking heyda. Oh yeah, Zach Thomas, one of the greatest Miami Dolphins linebackers played college ball at Texas Tech! Oh, so the Zach in Zach's Club is Zach Thomas! Awesome! Actually, I was just looking for a place to work out on a Saturday morning while I was in town. The gym itself was on the other side town from where I was staying...meaning it was about a 10 minute drive. The $10 day pass fee is very reasonable. The gym wasn't crowded at all, and I didn't have to wait for anything. They had plenty of free weights, benches, squat racks, and well-designed machines. Excellent choice by going with Nautilus Nitro Plus and Nautilus Xpload. Zach's Club has everything you can ask for in a gym. 24 Hour Fitness could learn a lot from this gym's choice in equipment. Now when I come back to Lubbock, I have something to look forward to. read more

I was in Lubbock for the summer, and decided to check this gym out because it is close to my hotel. I arrived at about seven am, and was trying to talk to a manager about doing a few days trial membership to see how I liked the gym. I waited at the front desk for ten minutes, and there was not a person in sight to greet me, so I walked in and started lifting figuring I would talk to someone at the front when they decided to show up for work. I was about ten minutes into my workout on the cable crossovers, when what appeared to be another gym member rudely come and tell me to quit slamming my weights. I was surprised as I'm normally very conscious of that, and haven't been told that in a very loNg time. Granted, I did have my headphones in and may have been louder than I thought, and maybe this equipment is louder and newer? I continued working out when that same guy made the same comment to me In the same rude and abrasive manner. This time I asked him "you must be a Manger here or something " and told him I wasnt slamming my weights on purpose and that I'd try to be more careful At this point I must have lost his respect, because he then asked me if I was on a day pass. I told himin a joking manner that Im 'on a free pass' because there was no one at the front desk. He didnt get the joke or that I walked in because there was no one at the front desk, and he then bluntly told me to leave. I've worked out at gyms all over America. I travel a lot, and as a result I get exposed to many different gym environments. The overall atmosphere was great, but I've never met someone in charge who is such an ass. Proof that a gym can almost run itself without maintenance! I guess everyone except the members slept in again today! I left at 5:30 a.m. and it still wasn't open for business! My wife and I are from out of town and visited Lubbock over Christmas. We bought a one-week pass for an amazing price and worked out at Zach's that week. We were both very impressed with the facility. It is very clean and well kept. The locker rooms were spotless. We will absolutely return to Zach's when we are back in Lubbock. Friendliness really depends on who's working, in the morning it's usually James and he's definitely the best I've met. Space and layout is pretty nice, although the newer Crossfit "monkey bars" seem like a waste, as I've rarely seen anyone use them. Most machines are fine, but could use some adjustments and TLC. Like any other gym an additional power rack or 2 would be nice. read more

Great place to work out! I am especially happy with the new Zumba class with Nathaniel. He is the best Zumba instructor I have seen.

The gym on Kewanee is fine, the front desk men are usually nice. Had a negative experience with Gabe Paul. There is only one sitting quadriceps machine and I was waiting to use it and I used the machines around it while waiting for the last person to finish. I watched as Gabe Paul was talking to a woman and placed his bag next to the machine. (I didn't think anything of it at the time) The woman who was on it got off and I walked over to the machine and put my water and towel in the holder and was about to sit down when Gabe Paul came up to me and said "excuse me ma'am, but I was next" and pointed to his bag as if that held his place when he was no where near the machine. I said "oh is that how this works?" and he did not answer. So I went to do some squats and abdominals and waited for 10 minutes and he was still on the machine. I had to leave to go to work and I went to the front desk and asked the guy working the front if it was gym policy that if you place your bag next to a machine, does that hold your place in the line? He said no and I said well that man over there kicked me off the machine and said he was next because his bag was there and he wasn't. He wanted me to go to the machine and ask them to let me work out and I said sure, I have to go to work, so I will be quick and told him that Gabe Paul had already been on it for 10 minutes. We walked over to the machine and the front desk guy asked Gabe P if I could work in and I said "No, I was asking if was gym policy to hold your place with a bag without you being around." Gabe P raised his voice and said he had been waiting and I told him that I had been waiting before him and I was already on the machine and he kicked me off because he said he was next because he placed his bag there. I told him, I watched him place his bag there because I had been waiting before him. GP started to raise his voice further and asked me "how long have you been here! That is what we do around here!" So I looked back at the front desk guy and said "So is it company policy?" GP interrupted and started pounding his chest and saying, "no you can talk to me! We can talk about this outside!" as if he wanted to deal with the situation violently. I asked for the manager at that point because I feared for my safety and GP said "I have a key to the front door!" I said "oh so you work here?" I was astounded that someone who worked there could act so unprofessionally. He motioned for me to follow him and at this point I just wanted to talk to the manager, I asked him for his name, which he refused to give me, he also refused to give me the name of his supervisor and kept insisting that "thats what they did around there" in reference to holding his place with the bag. I got Bart Thomas name from the front desk man and the GP name. It is completely unprofessional and poorly done if this man continues to work there. I am speaking to Bart Thomas in the morning and if he supports this behavior, I am ending my membership. read more
