Great place to work out, has everything I need, and the staff are always helpful whenever I need them.

After trying Fairfield and Morris Plains, I made my way up to Pompton Lakes to try out their Planet Fitness. Machines that I really wanted to use were not available in Fairfield and the one fly machine was broken at Morris Plains. So I get here and this place is pretty congested. Aside from all the people, there was just a really tight space and all the machines were really close to one another. Don't come here if you are claustrophobic. It seemed clean enough but it was so crowded on just a Friday early afternoon. So many teenagers. I got all my workouts done but I'm not really in a hurry to come back. The Fairfield location has a lot more room to spread out in. But this would do in a pinch. Staff at the desk were friendly and attentive when I told him this was my first time there. read more

Many people are sitting on their ASSES, on their Damn Phones HOGGING the various machines. Also Many people DO NOT WIPE DOWN the MACHINES AFTER THEY USE THEM!!!! Phones SHOULD BE BANNED & people should be reminded to Wipe Down the Machines when they first check in. A Few of my friends left this Gym and went to the Planet Fitness in Wayne. They say it has A LOT more space & people wipe down their machines & don't sit and Talk on their phones. So if it Doesn't improve I will be going to the Wayne Gym on Hamburg Tpk. read more

I enjoy going to this gym regularly as its my home club. After trying other locations i still find my way back here. However, can get really crowded due to smaller size and tight corners. I feell like it needs more smith machines. read more

Since the COVID has gone down and they're at full capacity, it's dirty and more packed then ever. There doesn't seem to be a cleaning service. The floors are full of dirt and hair balls. The matts are frayed and falling apart, the yoga balls have holes in them and are deflated. Neither of have been replaced in 3 years. The machines are frequently broken due to lack of maintenance. When you talk to the management they tell you they're doing their best and ignore you. The only good thing about this location is the price. I would not recommend this place if you are willing to spend more money on a better gym. If none of this bothers you it's a bargain. UPDATE: I wrote a complaint to management. The person I spoke to told me there would be improvements. It's worse than ever. read more

The staff in pompton lakes are all very nice people. The upper management of Planet Fitness whom you do not see in the gym however, have no respect or consideration for its members. Prior to their closing for 4 weeks and their reopening today, they had no lockers or bathrooms for men as well as their closing of whole huge sections of the gym for many weeks. Then they invite their members back today to a partially completed job! Still no men's lockers or bathrooms, other sections still not available, not fully pained and a warning about dust. Planet Fitness owes all members 4 weeks of fees as a starting amount and then additional money for the many weeks of lack of locker room and bathrooms and equipment which is still not available. read more

The fact that a gym, nonetheless a junky $10/month gym, can be so disgustingly stingy during a pandemic blows my mind. The fact that my 12 month membership was supposed to end in December of 2020, they extended it to July and then made me do another yearly fee, which is a total scam, because I had no means of renewing my membership for the year, but now I'm sucked in. So not only did I have to pay the annual fee for a year I won't be at the gym, but I then had to pay the cancellation fee. They also refused to inform me the gym was reopened, and their only response was "we sent you an email". I've checked spam. I've checked trash. I've received absolutely no communication from planet fitness since I became a member, except when I got a welcome email after first signing up, requested a password change, or submitted an online inquiry. I also found comments, like the one posted, from other PF members that they too received absolutely no communication about the opening of their gym. Brian, manager of the Pompton Lakes Planet Fitness, was a complete and utter jerk who made it seem like this was my own entire fault. Great value and always clean. I stayed away from the gym for about a year due to the pandemic and mostly jogged outside and got some free weights for the house. I'm glad to be back at the gym, and Planet Fitness has been a great experience. The crowd is always friendly and courteous. There are quite a few high school kids after school hours, but their gym etiquette has been fine. I've never had problems working in. I ended up getting a black card because I like the freedom to go to other locations and I've also used the massage chairs a few times. Now that I'm in my 50's, my back is a lot more achey than it used to be LOL. Both of my 13 year old twins come with me a few times a week with their own memberships. 13 and up are allowed with a parent. For $10 a month plus annual fee (which you will pay at other gyms too) you can't beat it! read more

Have been a member since I moved into the area in 2017ish. Back then it was alright. Now it has become purely high school kids who do nothing but take selfies and hog the machines. Planet fitness caters to the high schoolers rather than serious gym-goers. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere, currently on my way out myself. read more

Too many high school kids who are uneducated on gym etiquette. They let them in for free during summer months so that paying members are inconvenienced. They are loud and hog the equipment. They are on the phone and actually sit on the equipment while texting or playing with the phone. It's very annoying and disrespectful to paying members. read more

I am not sure if the gym is the same management /ownership from 6-7 years ago but I cannot help but be critical with this gym for how they handled my membership then. I previously gave this gym a 3 star review because the management failed to address numerous issues. The staff at the front desk somehow pinpoints and identified me upon check in as the member who gave critical review on google. They underhandedly and childishly changed my log in picture to something they felt was humorous and laughable as I was waiting to be logged in. Lo and behold I go to a Planet Fitness in Clifton and was informed how hideous and ugly my picture was by the staff there and got it promptly changed. I just hope you are not doing that to your current members because not only is it shameful but embarassing your member while FAILING MISERABLY to address your poor management is pitiful. Not only that but your staff complained and requested PF members to take their shoes off at the front so the salt won't stain the floors. What is wrong with you?! Place proper entrance mats at the front rather than inconvenience / badger your members about the salt on their shoes or maybe you shouldn't be doing business at all? The people working there were MISERABLE, never smiled or courteous to members. I hope that over the years that has changed or better yet this is a different owner/management then I will be more than happy to change this critical review. Otherwise, look elsewhere for a gym. I went to the gym on Saturday, Oct 29. Then I went back today, Monday, only to find out the gym closed temporarily for construction reasons from Sunday, Oct 30 through Nov 20. Why didn't they inform members of this closing on Saturday - one day before the closing? Additionally, I will be curious to see if they charge the membership fee for the period they shut down. The place is a real shit show. Brian the manager is rude and you never get a solid answer from the desk people. Joined for a year and because of pandemic they froze the monthly fee but then moved it into the next year adding a $42 yearly fee. They won't let you cancel except when you pay a $60 cancel fee. Place needs a little TLC as far as equipment goes, most of it makes noise and isn't all that smooth. The staff is nice and helpful and there's enough room for everyone. Multiples of each machine really helps and the cleaning stations are always stocked! A couple barbells would be nice though. read more

Staff is very nice and always helpful, but I've been to many gyms in my life and this is definitely the most packed and frustrating gym ever because it's so hard to get on most equipment. Finally, many members are very ignorant and rude by hogging machines and also sitting on their phones and not leaving many machines for 20 min at a time which is ridiculous and sometimes causes altercations which myself and my wife have had at this club. read more

FILTHY! I decided to drive up here for a change of scenery and it cost me my health. I've NEVER been to a PF this dirty. I spent 20 minutes too long in here before leaving. I was having trouble breathing - wouldn't be surprised if there is a mold problem. I'm trying to finishing my workout at the immaculate location in Wayne, but am still very nauseous. Shame on this club for not adhering to the usual strict cleaning standards of the franchise. The two stars is only for the sweet girl at the front desk on the night shift, and the lockeroom is a nice layout. So this small location is running a free promotion for teenagers for the summer and now the gym is packed with kids who are not serious about lifting but more about sitting on the bench or machine and texting or talking with their buddies. What about the paying customers? The trash cans are overflowing, the locker rooms and machines are dirty and there are always workers sitting around behind the counter doing nothing. I specifically told the rep on the phone that I wanted to join for a short period of time and he told me that was perfectly fine and the most I would have to pay for is 2 months. If I could leave no stars I would. Please do not join this club and please listen to the reviews on the manager Brian. Everyone is correct on calling him out. He is rude and doesn't know what he's doing. He will only talk to you over the phone and when you try to talk to him in person he has his staff say he is busy. I got charged a late fee because they couldn't locate my account. Keep in mind I have been with them since January and was not made aware of this issue until March 3rd when I received an email. I went in to give them the information again and they proceeded to charge me a late fee. It's not even about the late fee at this point- just the fact that the manager is a complete jackass that can't realize he's wrong- if I was made aware of this issue when I first joined or even in February and I didn't come in to update it then it would be on me. But again I wasn't made aware that there was an issue locating my account until March 3rd. For all the times I came in when I first started my membership no one ever said anything to me read more

I was doing some shopping and decided to head to the gym, came here and the gym was full of 'lunk heads' wearing tank tops, and hogging certain machines for more than 3 sets. I tried to sign up for the hydro massage and the fronk desk guy laughed at me cause I didn't know where it was located, said " must not be from around here" and made me fill out another form. With covid, I lost interest in exercising in a mask so I put my membership on hold. All was good until September 2020 when PF claims they sent me an email (I searched through ALL email and NEVER received) stating I'd have to come into the club in person to maintain a hold on my membership. Fast forward to today, when I call to dispute & Im rudely told that if I didn't respond to THAT email, I should come in and cancel my membership ("we can't have you do by phone only in person or certified mail"). Easy to find in a pretty decent area. Size wise, it's not the biggest gym. It doesn't really offer classes like at L.A Fitness in Wayne. It does however suffice my needs. I typically stick to cardio...the treadmills, ellipticals and stationary bikes are all located on the second floor which works great for me on account I just hop from one to the next etc. I like that there are plenty of machines, so even in the most busy hours there are always ones still open. I've never had to wait to use any and I've always stayed on them for as long as I like not having to worry about getting off for someone else to use. I enjoy the layout of the womens locker room & I enjoy the set up of the showers. At L.A. fitness in Wayne, you typically stripped down to nothing in the locker room in order to use the showers, where as here at Planet Fitness you have your own little changing area infront of your shower. I personally like that better because I keep all my stuff right with me, more convient I suppose. I enjoy that its really never overly crowded, the staff doesn't bother you yet they are always willing and ready to answer any questions. The sign up process was so much easier and less expensive by a long shot then when I was at L.A. Fitness in Wayne. Over all I enjoy Planet Fitness, its clean, it has what I need/use and it's cheap. read more

I have been a member of Planet Fitness for three years now. I recently upgraded to their Black Card membership so I could use their massage chairs and HydroMassage bed. Upgrading to the Black Card membership was a great decision. The HydroMassage bed is a wonderful addition and I try to use it at least once a day before I go to work. I also enjoyed the massage chairs and half price on cooler drinks. Sometimes the gym is quite busy in the evenings so I try to go in the early afternoon or late evening. During the warmer months, it's less busy throughout the day. I typically workout between 11am and 2pm during the week and evenings on the weekend. They do a great job and always keep the place clean and looking nice. I do wish they were opened 24 hours, though. Well worth the $20 a month and worth the investment if you're looking for a judgmental free place to workout. read more

This gym is tucked away in the corner of the Pompton Lakes strip mall. It doesn't look big from the outside, but it's got two nice-sized levels. The cardio area is upstairs with rows of treadmills, elypticals (sp?) and bikes. There are plenty of TVs lined up to watch whatever you want, you can plug your headphones in to the machine to listen to the audio. Downstairs, there is a nook for Planet Fitness' signature 30 minute workout station. Different machines are lined up in order, with a signal that tells you when to start each machine, and another that tells you when to stop and switch. There are steppers in the middle of the room if that's your thing. There's a good amount of machines on the bottom floor. I've never had a problem with having to wait a long time for any particular machine. There's lots of free weights as well. The locker rooms are big, and the bathrooms are always clean. Everywhere you look there are garbage cans and paper towels with disinfectant spray to clean off your machines before and after you use them. I haven't tried the aqua massager or tanning beds yet. I tried to use the aqua massager today, but you're only allowed to use them before your workout or after you've showered (I guess for good reason). The staff is competent and friendly. No long waits checking in so far. The lobby area is also nice with lots of little tables and chairs littered about. I would definitely reccommend Planet Fitness, they have nice facilities and lots of amenities for a low price and no commitment. read more

The pipes above the machines have an inch of dust buildup and it flies through the air as your working out which is really gross. The ladies bathrooms are dirty. The previous trainers were better. Hunter, Ryan, and Chris were very pleasant and caring trainers. The guy that is there now isn't very pleasant. I signed up for a Saturday class that began at 11:30. The trainer didn't think anyone had signed up for a class and was already planning on leaving early. When I showed up for the class it was a big problem. The trainer told me he was going to leave early, but asked me what cardio I wanted to do. I could sense I was ruining his plans and me taking the class wasn't a priority for him. It was very awkward and uncomfortable. I haven't taken any classes since and I hope they get a new trainer soon. read more

I was never a huge gym person so it was hard for me to find a gym that I was confident to go to, until I started to go to the planet fitness in Pompton Lakes. I've been to multiple planet fitness locations, but this location has always made me feel the most comfortable and judgement free. The gym itself is very nice and the equipment/machines are cleaned frequently to ensure safety especially during the pandemic. The locker rooms are spacious and clean as well. The staff at this location is kind and welcoming, and they are quick to give you any extra gym equipment to add to your workouts if needed. The overall community of members are very polite and I haven't had any bad experiences. read more

I toured this facility today and found it would meet my needs at a reasonable price. However, they will only accept payment via direct access to my checking account. No way! I told the manager that I'm not willing allow direct withdrawals from my checking. I offered to pay for the entire year, up-front, in cash, but was told they won't do that. As I left, I told the manager I liked the club but probably wouldn't join because of the payment policy. I don't like the policy, but Planet Fitness has the right to run their business however they want. However, who refuses to accept a year's pre-payment in full? I don't understand their thinking. read more
