From the lot, this looks like a tiny facility and I can see parking being tough during peak times, but I lucked out with rockstar parking. The Black Card area and front desk are on the first floor, and you have to walk down a full flight of steps to get to the locker room and gym. There was a QR code for Wi‑Fi, but I didn't scan it and ended up with terrible, spotty reception in the basement gym. The locker room was clean and smelled amazing. The gym itself had everything I needed and all the usual PF equipment. I really appreciated how much open floor space there was for stretching and floor work. Overall, a compact location that still delivers what you need for a solid workout. read more

This used to be one of the nicest Planet Fitness locations, but the tanning equipment has gone downhill. Bed #2 doesn't work, bed #1 shuts off halfway through, and for weeks the only working option has been bed #8. I even stopped going for a month to give them time to fix things, but nothing has changed. I pay for a service that isn't being provided, and it's clear there's no intention of repairing the equipment. As a business owner, maintaining equipment is a basic responsibility. Me and my mom went to this particular planet fitness just this past Saturday. My mom is not able to walk up and down steps due to her having osteo arthritis and then she have lymphedema on top of that and when we get there we ask about the elevator then the man at the desk said someone would have to walk us to the elevator because it was all the way in the back and we have to get through double doors to get there but wait it gets worse they had so much stuff in the way it wasn't wide enough for her walker. I don't recommend this gym to anyone who is handicapped. read more

I've been a black card member for several years now and there's a ton of benefits with the membership. The lunk alarm is not really used anymore and you hear people drop weights all the time but it's not intimidating. In fact, I believe the lunk alarm is a bit distracting and unnecessary. I would say this is a standard, basic gym. The weights cap off at a certain amount and it isn't as large as some other gyms but you can still get a good workout in. read more

Soooo this was a pretty bad experience. I went in to sign up as a new member for myself and my HS teen. I was inquiring how to try the gym out to see if I liked it. The information given was not totally correct so thank goodness two of them were there, one knowing more than the other. For me, being properly greeted and informed is a norm, and here I had to piece together information to understand. Again, I'm was more helpful than the other. Behind the desk were two young adults. They explained I needed to sign up on line. As I was trying to do that, they were chatting causally and loudly among themselves. The phrase "F____ that shit" was used twice pretty loudly. While to me it's offensive language and inappropriate, it wasn't directed at me so I tried to ignore it. Next they started talking about how they "couldn't wait for school to start". The other commented "all these high school students will be back in school". Meanwhile, I'm standing right there with my high school student trying to sign up. This was a very poor reception and I was cringing inside thinking maybe I should drive the extra 15-20 to Columbia or Rockville where this type of service would never be tolerated. At this point, I spoke up asking why are they talking like that and I'm about to sign up a high school student? Instead of apologizing, one employee tried to gaslight me to make me think it was a totally normal comment like "isn't it a good thing kids are going to school" . Like there was nothing wrong with what they were saying. The conversation turned very antagonistic and I really did not want to be at that gym but- it's the closest. I really just tried to focus on my work out. For me the cleanliness of the gym matters and the overall environment. I have been to over 60 PF. They are all cookie cutter, some a bit more crumbly than others, but all more or less the same. What makes one different from another are usually two things: Staff Cleanliness The Silver Spring team took some getting used to, but I have found the team to be friendly, kind, professional and helpful. What really sets the staff apart is Jessica M. the trainer. She is not the most experienced trainer I have worked with, but she is the best and it's not even close. She listens, creates programs that work for everyone in her classes, takes the time to understand client needs / health concerns, she educates and leads by example. She stays engaged, keeps things interesting and ensures an impactful training experience for all attendees. She isn't going to make or force anyone to do what they can't, and respects limitations while striving to insure individual goals are met. Without a doubt, if you are looking for a staff that seems interested and want to work with a trainer that is invested in you, this is the gym for you. Now, let's talk cleanliness. I have never seen a staff work so diligently on keeping equipment clean. Seems someone is on the floor at all times with a mop or broom or cloth keeping the place as clean as an underground gym can be. The bathrooms, well, they are almost always in need of cleaning but a lot of that is the fault of the customers that don't think trash cans need to be used for trash, that toilets shouldn't be flushed, that showers can be left in a shambles and must think that their momma is going to come in a tiddy up for them; sorry SS PF customers, too many slobs. PF is doing their part to keep the place clean (although they need to better stay on top of the soap dispensers and hand sanitizer as they are often empty). I used to go to la fitness but ever since I moved away I decided to go somewhere closer and cheaper. The price is great I'll give them that also the front staff are always nice and helpful. The gym itself is uh ok, it has all the basic machines that you need, lots of treadmills, climbing stairs machines, free weights, weight machines, pull- machines and resistance machines. One good thing is the lockers are outside so breaking into your stuff is unlikely, The bathrooms are fairly clean, and the staff always making sure it's that way. It's good that they have different sections for different types of workouts. They also have this yellow area (the 30 minutes workout) with a timer you could do almost a total body workout within 30 minutes. Only one downside ofnthis place is that the gym kind underground and there are no windows when it gets crowded you feel like you can't breath. Upstairs they have tables and chairs, also some rooms for therapeutic massage ( only for member with golden membership extra $10) I believe they also have tanning rooms and other therapeutic rooms like hydrotherapy but not quite sure. The gym could get filled up pretty fast and finding machines can be a hassle especially if the members dont clean after use. The parking is fairly big. Especially in the rear. In general this is a good gym for starters and semi professional. But if you have big dream as a bodybuilder this is not the place. read more

Updates regarding COVID 19, they opened a few weeks ago... 24/7 with capacity requirements. I have never been there were they were at capacity, when i typically go it's maybe about 20-40 other people. Masks are required in the facility, when entering, leaving and WHILE WORKING OUT (which honestly is very difficult to work out or do cardio in a mask), I think it's only at certain facilities were they require you to workout with a mask as my other friends in other parts of MD aren't required to wear masks. They have now clearly labeled cleaning stations and they are fully stocked with 2 cleaning sprays and 2 paper towels and hand sanitizer per each cleaning station. Most of the equipment are closed off to encourage social distancing. All the weight lifting equipment is open! Just remember to wipe down before AND after using each equipment to prevent the spread of COVID. read more

Filthy locker room and always crowded floor. It's impossible to find the dumbbells and the ez-curl bars. They're all over the gym. Most weight machines are filled all the time. Groups of guys grab machines/racks and stay there for 30 minutes at a time. They don't have enough "Temporarily out of order" signs to put on all of the broken cardio equipment. Almost every treadmill is missing at least one cup holder. The empty space where the cup holders should be is usually filled with Tootsie Roll wrappers or other garbage. The locker rooms have trash everywhere - occasionally for days at a time. You get what you pay for, but in this case you get an over-crowded dump. read more

This planet fitness is one of the more dated locations in the surrounding area and it's starting to show it's age. Older smith machines and dumbells that are aging. The 30 minute trainer area is NEVER monitored. It's always some person just siting on a machine doing whatever they want. The ab exercise area is dated. Lots of old equipment. Many old exercise machines compared to newer locations that have various new equipment for arm and leg workouts. Only one trx area. Locker room is older, so no self locking lockers. read more

This planet fitness conforms to the planet fitness model but it's filthy. It's so dirty I cleaned my machine twice before I used it and nice after. People expelled way too many body fluids for this place not to be pristine. It's only $20 a month for the black card but everyone deserves a clean facility. read more

Honestly, everyone is different . There's the good the bad and the ugly. Back in 2021 , the people who used to work there where beyond friendly to me . Keep in mind I was 16 at the time but nevertheless they treated me like a younger brother ; Which I highly appreciated! Fast forward to late 2022 here was this one person working the desk she always had a problem with controlling her emotions . Believe me I understand how hard it can be controlling your emotions because , I work customer service so I understand how it is .But I never disrespected her in any way shape or form. So it was weird. Why her attitude towards me and my friends was super negative. Therefore I chose to go to other locations such as Rockville & downtown silver spring. Lately I have been coming back to this location on the daily , I once again can say the workers are super nice and friendly. They treat me like family , I love to talk and the people working currently (Aug 2023 ) love todo the same . Up to now I haven't seen that one bad apple . I have no clue what happened to her , I hope her career was terminated . Because she didn't fit the planet fitness expectations ! Only thing I don't like about this gym is the bathroom's there always unclean and dirty. beside the bathroom . I reported Planet Fitness Silver Spring, MD, to Health & Human Services today, for allowing members to run on treadmills, and be on steppers with NO nose covering, which is in violation of Montgomery County, MD, reopening phase 2. I guess that's what a member meant last month, when she said in her review that "people were FAKE-WEARING MASKS. This is a four star facility and staff that unfortunately is getting a three star review due to corporate culture. Plus: - Ample machines and equipment that allow the beginner and fitness enthusiast to get their sweat on. - The staff is a little over worked, but go about assisting all that need help with a positive attitude. - Training sessions (which I have walked past, but not participated in) are conducted by people that actually look like they work out. The trainers don't look like they need training. - CLEAN!!! The facility is clean. The staff has clean clothes. The staff's breath is clean. The bathroom & locker room is clean. The lockers are clean. The people working out wipe down and clean the machines. Yes! - The music they play is not obnoxious. And, there are multiple TVs for those jogging/walking/stepping the minutes away. Minus: - No judging WHILE THEY ARE COMPLETELY JUDGING YOU. Don't drink from a large bottle of water, it makes you look like a "Lunk". Don't grunt, or you are a "Lunk". Are you wearing a weightlifting tank top? Lunk! If you are against judging people based on their appearance or their workout routines, don't judge people based on their appearance or their workout routine. - Pizza night. Fitness and corporate sponsored pizza night don't go together. It appears to be a way to ensure your clients are never able to completely get rid of that unwanted weight. - Tootsie roll bowls. All around the entrance and front counter, you will find bowls of tootsie rolls. Do I need to say more about that? - Minor pet peeve: 60lb Dumbbells. I am not expecting 200lb sets, but having a limit set at 60lbs is just horrible. Why create an artificial stopping point for your clientele? How come this gym doesn't have more 5 star reviews? There's a ton of machines to work out on, the bathrooms are large and clean, and there's plenty of cleaner to wipe the machines down with. The staff is friendly, accommodating, and if you go enough they'll remember you. Makes me feel special :) Oh yeah, and the hydro massage is an excellent incentive. Have you ever used one of those? It's like floating in a waterbed that massages you from head to toe. I love everything about this gym, except the bagels and pizza on certain days. ...but you know, it's not like you have to eat them. There's far more positive than negative about Planet Fitness. Most people have been into a Planet Fitness at least once in their life. They are no Lifetime Fitness or LA Fitness, but they get the job done and are easy to find in almost any area. This particular location has plenty of parking. Just last month they bought all new cardio equipment which was much needed! They are still lacking a few pieces of equipment that the Frederick PF has, but the floor space is so limited here that I don't know where they would even put it if they did have it. The staff is typically nice, although the group classes they run basically overrun the gym. The space is limited as it is and with a group of 15-20 overtaking large portions of the equipment, working out can be next to impossible. That is the biggest downfall of this specific location in my opinion. Its cheap and it gets the job done! read more

I've been a member for a few years now and I'm consistently unimpressed, but keep hope alive. Some positives: the gym is 24 hours, a lot of parking, generally (very general) nice staff, personal trainers to consult with you and provide you with a work-out plan, work-out classes, and free wifi. On the flipside, the classes are only offered during the day M-F making it impossible to ever hop in one for those with 9-5's. There are many machines that are out of service, especially the stair master, they only have 4 and of that at minimum 2 have been out when I visit. They've also recently rearranged the place, eliminating space to stretch, now people stretch under the staircases. They've gotten rid of some ab machines as well. I think this location needs renovating, it seems crammed and lacking variety in equipment. I suppose this is what you get for $10 a month. read more

I joined this gym about 5 years ago out of convenience. It's the closest one to where I live, but lately I've been using the one closer to my office in Owings Mills or the Rockville location because they are way nicer, far cleaner and have much better equipment than the New Hampshire Ave. location. Staff is nice enough, but the men's locker room bathroom is disgusting almost every time I am there. On any given day, either 1 or all 4 of the toilets/urinals are broken (and marked as such) or out of toilet paper. Not to mention at least one of the showers is typically broken. At least one of them went more than a month before it was fixed. The old manager, from when I first joined, seemed to run a much tighter ship and it was much nicer in the past. Additionally, the new cardio equipment is not even remotely an upgrade from what was there a few months ago. Seems like PF was just looking to replace the few broken machines by replacing all of them with lower grade equipment. The older treadmills were much easier to change settings mid workout. Not sure why PF would switch to inferior equipment. Hard to complain for such a low monthly price, but this particular branch of PF is light years below the others in the area. read more

Only downsides are people sometimes disregard the rules for the 30 minute express workout and the machines are a little worn. I recently switched from the Frederick, MD Planet Fitness to this one and it has been a weird adjustment, but at the end of the day they both get the job done. This location has 2 floors (you are on the top floor when you first check in) and the machines are on the bottom floor. The tanning/relaxation rooms are on the top floor as well. There are plenty of cardio machines including treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals. I have noticed there always seems to be a trainer on the floor instructing a class of some sort. The only complaint I have is the fact that many of the machines are close together and it can get pretty crowded, especially on weeknights. read more

I'm paying $10 a month for Planet Fitness in Silver Spring which I think is a great price and enough that I don't feel obligated to go to justify the cost. There are lots of machines for both cardio and most resistance machines are duplicated, I find I only have to wait for the machines where there is only one of them, which granted is annoying (hence one star off). I also feel some of the staff don't really care because there are rules against people grunting, banging weights etc and they never seem to be enforced (there is rarely anyone actually IN the gym). Overall very good but the staff could do a bit better and there needs to be 2 of EVERY resistance machine for it to be perfect. read more
