I have been going here for a while with my wife, the place is pretty clean and the atmosphere is cool. There really isn't anything negative I can say about this place other than the toilets needing to be cleaned, but that's something that people need to clean after using it out of respect. The parking is on the back side of it, there are signs next to the Sam's Club saying your car will be towed and it's only for Sam's Club. This location is clean and plenty of machines to work out. They do not have group classes like other gyms. They have plenty of free weights, and weight machines to get your workout in. They have an alarm if weights are dropped too hard or grunting noises are made (I think) that's what sets it off--hehehe. I used the weight area as a woman and got no judgement from the guys there. Very no fuss, down to business. Unfortunately, I didn't go enough. But if you need a good place uptown that is budget friendly, try them out. If you have the black membership, you get to use the hydro massage beds/tanning/and some other thing. I only used the massage bed (nice). read more

Terrible. Always dirty. Locker room area always trashed. Only 3 showers, always smelly with trash left around. Sinks take 50 hand waves to function. Counters are always wet like someone's bathing on top. Stalls out of toilet paper. No paper towels, just air dryer that people hog to dry off their body... Always see workers but none of them can clean? Maybe hire full time custodians like other gyms? Edit: I don't see the need to contact the manager, I just listed the issues I've noticed with this location, it's the manager's job to do something about it. It's a nice facility , fairly clean but busy . I am going to keep going and see how it goes. Also, the machines seem kind of fragile. I saw some guy on a curve stretching machine and it broke on him. A lot of the machines there seem to be for shorter people for some reason which is some thing I've never experienced. All around a good visit but like I said, we'll see how it goes. read more

Why do you need an app if you have the black card? I don't have space on my phone. I was harassed to download the app to be able to allow people to come in with me when I already have the black card and pay for that service. also planet says it judgement free zone but I always feel uncomfortable when I'm doing hard workouts because I can't express myself with noises. Everytime I come to this location, equipment is always not working... Some of them have been like that for months (like that abs crunch machine). I joined the Planet Fitness online this past Thursday July 15, 2021 because I wanted to join a mask-less gym, i can't wear masls & work out, i have sinus issues. Then LA county mandated that everybody wear masks. OK, no problem, ill call to cancel & get my $$ back right?? Wrong, 1st of all, i never went to any PLANET FITNESS GYM!!!! I still have not. I called to cancel my membership & get my $$ back. Ricardo(Manager) SOUTH GATE told me that i won't be getting my money back ($59) plus i have to wear mask, which i can't. I totally understand wearing masks, that's kool with me. I like to run outdoors & do pushups in my backyard. I saved my little money i had & decided to join PLANET FITNESS & Unfortunately they aren't going to refund me even though i just signed up 3 days ago & haven't gone to any gyms!! People avoid this GYM like, well a Pandemic, no pun intended. I wanted to be a part of the gym, but PLANET FITNESS only cares about $$ & not its members!! PLEASE AVOID!!!. Hard to find any weights. People take 3 sets of dumbbells to their bench or cable area and don't re-rack. A lot of high school kids just hanging out at machines and benches. Don't recommend this planet fitness. The gym etiquette is terrible. Workers are nice. read more

Note: Really want to give it a 3 1/2 but Yelp doesn't have that option. First time at this location; taking a small hiatus from my home gym, so I decided to come here today. PROS: It's okay for what it is; It's pretty lowkey. This location wasn't packed; so that makes for a lot of empty machines w/ no wait times to use equipment/ machines (HUGE PLUS). The gym is small but it has all the equipment/ machines (treadmill, elliptical, strength training, massage bed, etc.) that I use so that's also a plus. CON #1: I didn't like that when I went over to use the massage bed I only was given 5 mins. Meanwhile there was a lady that was on another bed who had wayyyy more time than I had. When my 5 mins was up I asked the girl (w/ dyed blonde hair) if this was the max time given on the massage beds because at other locations they give you 10 mins. and she told me yes. I explained to her that there's a elderly woman who was on the massage bed before I came in and she's still enjoying her massage meanwhile mine is over. /: The girl tells me, "oh, would you like more time?" I told her no that I had to leave at that point ...BUT what I wanted to say was more time would've been nice while I was back there on the massage bed like the other person had. HOWEVER, I kept it cute! CON #2: They didn't have paper towel and disinfectant to spray the beds before and after use. That's very unsanitary. I had to go get spray and paper towels from by some equipment, bring it to the massage bed, spray the bed and wipe it down, and hurry to bring the spray back so another person wouldn't be looking to use it, and run back to the massage bed before the time started on my session. /: I would recommend this location to anyone who likes a low key location to workout at. I will try this location again tomorrow. Since they like to be stingy with the massage time, I'll be EVER SO MINDFUL to tell them to kick in 5 more mins. before I even proceed to the massage bed... This is not a final review but just a little rough draft of what is yet to come. First things first, they should seriously have their employees walk around and keep an eye out for those who don't re-rack their weights. Also, what's the point of having a "lunk alarm" if people are still yelling and dropping weights? I literally had to stare at a guy tonight just to give him a hint that I am annoyed by his behavior and stop slamming the weights down. If you can't gently place them down then use lighter weights and let the big boys handle the heavy ones. But the biggest annoyance of all is one of the employees who also works out there and likes to walk around and holler at people as if he's the owner of a night club. It's the same guy every time; this tall lanky character. Dude, you work at Planet Fitness; it's not that impressive. It's like working at Chuck E' Cheese. If he spent more time working out instead of talking to girls, he might see some results. I've worked at a gym myself for a few years and I've given more customer service than these people have. Opening was today so I decided to transfer my membership to this location since its way closer than the other location I was going to (Huntington Park). I wasn't aware on how to transfer, so I decided to call this location so I can be guided or informed on how to do this process. Keep in mind when a gym opens you expect their employees to be trained and informed and answering questions us customers have. So I called and the guy that answered the phone sounded like in his teens. I simply asked "How do I transfers my membership to this location"... he said I have to do it online. I was having a hard time finding the section to be able to transfer, so I told him I don't see it.. I probably hear the most stupidest reply after I told him I don't see it... he said "Look it up on YouTube"... WTF, ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?.. LOL! So he just said come in person and we'll be able to help you So I show up and told the front desk on how I was able to find South Gate online, so I was told it was only open in person, but online it still wasn't open. Oh, I had to pay $5 since I wasn't a member to that location. Now why wouldn't this little idiot tell me this before going to this location not aware of this situation. Usually come late night/early morning. Between 1am-5am it's empty. Upon arrival the staff acknowledges you and gets you checked in right away. So far they have all been laid back. There are many cardio machines such as treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, and the glider machine. All the equipment is new and always clean. There is a section of free weights with a couple of benches. And another section with machines that have pictures on how to do the workout and what muscles it targets. Usually at a "regular" gym such as la fitness or 24 hour fitness I would be too intimidated to even try any weights or any machines that aren't cardio but here I had no problem getting to learn the different machines and their uses. You don't see "lunks" walking around so that is a plus also. I'm still not sure how I feel about pizza night. Good gym great price. read more

This review is based on early morning M-F work outs at this gym. A guy with the short, bleached blonde hair is always there when I arrive at 5:30am. He always greets with a smile and a good morning. I was looking for ab machines, and he walked with me and pointed out each machine. He's a friendly and courteous person. I guess I should ask him his name. This location just replaced all of its treadmills and ellipticals, plus added two rowing machines. Yeah, dumbbells are not in their proper place, but just about every person that works out at this gym is an adult. Adults that should be responsible enough to replace what they've taken from. Many don't. Just like many don't wipe down after they've used a machine. The women's locker room has always been clean. Toilets areas have been clean. Showers, for the most part - clean. I have seen used bandages, and clumps of hair in the shower stalls, but I blame the individual persons' laziness to pick up after themselves. My only gripe - the vanity in the women's locker room does not have vanity lighting. It needs it!!! When I leave the gym, one or both of the PF attendants will say good-bye or have a nice day. I've noticed the facilities are much cleaner and keep their social distancing guidelines. The machines are cleaned on a regular basis and the staff is welcoming and appropriate signs are posted throughout the facility. Thank you for maintaining a welcoming atmosphere. I feel comfortable working out in this environment. Coming from a long history of gym membership sign ups this had to be the easiest and least complicated out of them all. I was not pressured into purchasing my membership, I didn't have to haggle for a lower price or go through a list of 10+ types of memberships. The reason I did sign up was the constant cleanliness of the facility and the contribution of the actual members cleaning after themselves after every workout. I usually go to the PF in Huntington Beach after work during the week. This last Friday I didn't get to workout so I went to this location on Saturday since I live nearby. What a mess! I blame both the gym and its members. Most of the dumbbells were scattered all over the floor, and the ones that were on the racks, weren't even in their correct spot. I needed some light dumbbells, but there was a group of girls that had taken them all. I asked if they were done but one said no. Okay, no problem. Except that 10-15 mins had passed and they still hadn't even touched them! I ended up doing something else with the cable machines, and lo and behold, I found some small abandoned dumbbells in the corner. Overall, this place is just too beat up. Unfortunately people suck and don't know how to put things back in their place, but then I think it's the gym's responsibility to go around and check to make sure things are placed back where they're supposed to be. And for it being a Saturday morning, that bathroom was disgusting! You would think they would clean it overnight or in the morning. read more

Worse Gym Ever! Dirtiest Planet Fitness Ever! The Staff is Lazy and Don't walk around and keep shit clean. The Ladies showers haven't been scrubbed in months. Water and soap scum everywhere. I am scared to shower here. The Machine's are broken a lot of the times. The staff is young and not as welcoming. The Long Beach planet is the best, hands down. Great staff. Clean af. I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone they lack customer service. Managers/owner you guys should train your staff on customer service. The staff at this location just stand around by the register and don't attempt to help customers. I asked if I could get some assistance setting an appointment to use the body enhancement. The girl that at the POS looked at the day pass and said rudely, "you can't go in there that's only for VIP members". I explained I had previously obtained a day pass at a different location and I was able to use the massage chair. At this location the female said, "well not here you must be a VIP member to use that service". Staff here don't realize that with no customers their is no jobs for them.
