Excellent coffee and a wondrous selection of pastries! (4/5 green stars) It was definitely worth stopping in Cloverdale to see the town (and its quirky artwork) and visit Plank coffee. In terms of design, it's one of the nicest coffee shops I've ever come across. Great light and a good mix of seating from the large communal table to the big armchairs. I had a Guatemala Huehuetenango pour-over (you heard me!) - reasonably priced at $3.25 and very nicely roasted & brewed. They now roast their own beans, with 10 oz bags for sale at $13-14. I also had a piece of their Hungarian shortbread ($2) and having made my own at home (and thinking it was good) I can say that theirs was exceptionally good! I was shocked to hear that it's also gluten-free - a local baker makes it using their special rice flour mix. They have a great selection of pies and pastries with several vegan and gluten-free options. I'm wavering between 4 and 5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * I believe that their coffee and teas are organic. * Having said that, I'd like to know more about their coffee - I forgot to ask and now can't find any info online. I think that some bags are labeled as organic and some not. Not sure about trade practice. Hope to learn more! * They stock organic almond and soy milk. * Some vegan-friendly pastries. * They now roast their own coffee in restored roaster and package it in compostable (I think) bags. * I like that as an alternative to soda they sell a "Shrub of the Week", made from local produce. Such a cute little coffee spot, right across from our hotel- Best Western. Everyone there is super friendly, and they have some really great lattes. I'm driving through town and I am SO happy I stopped. Where do I begin?! The decor is bombbbbb. Haha. So welcoming and aesthetically pleasing. The everything bagel was outta this world. It sounds basic but it was farrrrr from it. I'm not speaking from a hangry place either. Haha. Thennnnn I took a chance and got the apricot blackberry shrub. YO!!! It was so delicious. I'm not sure I ever wanna forget it. Like no lie. The people working were very welcoming and nice. Plank coffee was a nice break from a long drive! I was surprised but very happy about the vegan options. We had the veggie hand pie, avocado toast, and Mississippi mud cake. All were delicious. The coffee shop its self is also very cute and well decorated, I liked the lighting, and the location is good as well. The baristas were also very nice and helpful. Plank has a very rustic and quaint appearance with its wooden floors and decor. It is a small space so it does get packed quickly. I ordered the Honey Latté when I visited. The drink was very interesting to say the least. With each sip, I could taste burnt honey (not sure if that's intentional or not) which left a weird taste in my mouth. I would definitely come back to Plank, however, I would try a different drink and hope that it was better than the honey latté I had ordered. All in all, the service was great and the atmosphere was relaxing. read more

Stopped in here on our way to Booneville for some cheese tasting at Pennyroyal. Delicious cake and tea, and nice counter service! The gluten-free cardamom cake was a great choice--I'm a fan of cardamom and although I don't need the gluten-free option I gave it a try. So glad I did! I also enjoyed their Big Red iced tea--so much better than the usual herbal iced tea option that is just straight hibiscus. Will need to make the trip again soon just to have some more. read more

My friend and I stopped here after an all night sewing session, on our way to a condom fashion show in San Fransisco. Yes that's right. Condoms. Team no sleep needed some coffee while making the trek. Luckily my handy dandy Google machine told me there was a place near by.... Direct me you crazy automatic directional narrative...I need coffee!! Seriously the best coffee shop I've been to in a while. Its a perfect blend of modern and rustic. Good music, great staff, perfect atmosphere. I love coffee... I've tried a lot of it.. I know what I'm talking about. When we showed up they told us that they had a quiche fresh out of the oven but it wasn't out for display yet... We had to get it.. Obviously......Oh my holy mother of pearl....this quiche will blow all other quiches put of the water. It is so perfectly balanced and tasty. Even the crust was good! Coffee, tea and shrubes.. OH My! First thing I hear when I walk in the door is Radiohead's, 'everything in its right place' - - this must be a sign. Plank coffee is a wonderful little shop just off the 101 in cloverdale. The coffee here is deliciously strong and the pastries are delicious. The minimalist, modern hardwood decor is nothing short of comforting and inviting. And the whole establishment is immaculately clean. It feels, exactly as the song says, as though everything is in it's right place. Nice friendly staff and situated on a quiet main street where you'll be tempted to sit outside and watch the day go leisurely by.
