This nice little restaurant is nested within the city of ten thousand Buddha. It only accepts cash. Tiny place with limited tables. But it is very clean and folks working here are like machines! They are super efficient! I sat down with menu, within a minute, my order was taken. There are free books at the counter for reading. Shortly after, food was served. On way to Mendocino Headlands state park, we yet again stopped at Jyun Kang Restaurant, today. Ordered for, Appetisers : Spring rolls, Dumplings and Satay Sticks; Soup: Hot & Sour Soup; Entrée: Stir Fry Broccoli, Tofu in Black Bean sauce, Chowmein & Singapore Noodles [had ordered Fried Rice, which had finished by then]. We were 3 people and this much food was lots for us, so we had to pack some of the food left. Service was prompt, despite the restaurant being absolutely full. Really appreciate our server who seemed to be a student volunteer. She was smiling and helpful, despite the rush. Nothing like eating vegetarian food at the Buddhist Temple on Lunar New Year! Every table seemed to have ordered the satay skewer. I expected it to taste like tofu, but to my surprise it tasted like meat LOL the texture when you bite into it is not sofu, but rather chewy As you would expect, the staff there are friendly and patient, and the inside is clean with basic renovations that are bare, functional, appropriate, and clean. My family & I are thoroughly impressed with this restaurant. The food is delicious, the service by the multilingual, all-volunteer wait staff was excellent. The chefs will prepare the dishes with less oil & salt if you ask as the sauces aren't pre-packaged. Located by the city of ten thousand buddhas. I had better vegetarian food but considered they don't use msg, I gave 4 stars. Minus 1 star as the wait for the food was very very slow. Maybe only one stove at the kitchen cooking. The fried rice had the soy sauce wok hey, to my surprise I think this was the first time ever a fried rice didn't use white rice but probably germ rice ( more nutritious!) . Seaweed roll topped with zucchini was crispy, tasted more like liquified gado gado peanut sauce with hints of Tom yum, ya, it was sweet, nothing spicy nor sour, pretty tasty as an appetizer. I agreed. I never saw grey "chow mein" before but I was hungry so tried to eat it. After a few bites, I threw it out. It was awful. CASH ONLY!! just a heads up =) Probably one of the decent Chinese vegetarian meal I had in a while, and quite surprise it is in Ukiah. But I guess it make sense since it is in the city of ten thousand Buddhas. The location is not hard to find, just follow google map, plenty of parking right outside as well. I think in general you can't make reservation unless you are a group of 10+. We were there around 12:30pm and we only had to wait a few minutes for the next table. This restaurant's efficiency is quite high. The food was served pretty quick after you ordered, even though all the tables were filled. My favorite is the fried bean curd seaweed thing. It was crunchy outside and soft inside. Some food items can order in small or large portion. Perfect for us since we wanted to try more dishes. In the end we ordered 6 things and came out to be around 50 bucks, not bad! read more

Stopped here on our way to humboldt, really love it. Beautiful campus off of a windy road in Ukiah, make sure to go slow and yield to all pedestrians, animal or otherwise. Excellent vegan food, large shareable portions, and make sure to bring your own containers if you have leftovers, waste is frowned upon here. While on a day trip to the temple nearby, my mom decided to give this place a try. My dad is a huge meat lover so getting him to try some vegetarian dishes were quite hard. We went in and was seated immediately. We had a party of 6 and was offered the menu right away. They had some imitation meat and some true vegetarian dishes. They don't eat eggs or leek. My mom asked the people working there and they are all volunteers. Overall the food was okay, it wasn't anything beyond extraordinary, however the service was great. Loved the people there, and they were helpful with refills etc. Prices were on the cheaper side however portions aren't huge. They offer different size portions that you can select. There is parking outside and it does get quite busy on the weekend during peak hours. read more

If you want to attend the temple's service which starts at 12:30pm everyday make sure you go there at least an hour before and it can get quite busy during lunch time. Where else can you feed two very hungry people a very late lunch at 2:45 in the afternoon for under $20? I'm talking two entrees and two appetizers, folks - this place is a BARGAIN. Sure, the food isn't the best vegan or the best Chinese food I have ever had - but it is definitely in the top 10 of Chinese restaurants in Northern California for me, and gets on my top 20 list of favorite "on the road" restaurants. The place is crawling with gorgeous and tame peacocks - just go straight in and take a left after the big temple on your left. If you're on a motorcycle - don't stop at the entry to ask directions because they'll tell you motorcycles are dangerous and you need to park in the first lot (which my friend and I did - but it was 105 degrees and I promise you, it would have been better for our health to drive up to the restaurant instead of walking 3/4 mile in full gear and no shade - twice since we had to go back to where we were parked). The servers were darling - the food came quickly and the options are endless. I was satisfied with everything I tried and can't wait to go back again to properly review the menu. Sadly, they are only open for lunch - what's up with that, right? Cash only and very chilly during the winter! We came on a Friday at opening and was fairly empty. Quickly filled up. We ordered the dumplings, sweet and sour, broccoli dish and the house noodles. The dumping were not as tasty as it looked. Somewhat of an odd taste and filling/ingredients. Only way to eat then was to dip them in the sweet and sour dish and use the chili paste at the table. Everything else was great. Very "healthy" as in not greasy/oily, and not overly salty. House noodles kind of reminded me of Singaporean noodles, texture and looks-wise. Too bad this place is closed right now. I went here in 2019 after exploring the sanctuary grounds. I didn't even knew this kind of restaurant was even here! My parents were sponsored by the monks to live at City of 10,000 Buddhas for a few months after after the Vietnam War. Beyond the amazing food I had here, it was really neat to spend some time to see and learn the history of this place. Also, peacocks were everywhere!
