I travel to Omaha frequently on business and always try to catch a dinner at Plank. How a restaurant in Omaha, NE manages to serve such fresh and tasty seafood I have no idea, put they certainly pull it off. The menu is diverse and creative. Both the lobster bisque and the clam chowder are excellent takes on Northeastern classics. I've had the chowder several times and appreciate how much lighter it is than your typical chowder. The salmon cobb is also very good, well dressed and the greens and vegetables seem very fresh. I haven't gotten a chance to try most of the larger entrees, but I did enjoy the naked salmon. Not much fuss about it, vegetables are fresh and salmon cooked more on the rare side, as it should be. The atmosphere of the restaurant/bar/patio is great. I could easily take my girlfriend out for a late dinner date or grab drinks and apps with friends. read more

I came with a friend of mine, our host seated us right away with positive energy even though the place was PACKED! Not only that but our waiter recommended us to look at the happy hour menu before it ended, (not many places do that which highly impressed me) our drinks were brought to us fairly quickly. Took a friend who was visiting from out of state to lunch at Plank on 11/8. We both got the fried shrimp platter. While the accompaniments were delicious, the shrimp had a certain strange and lingering aftertaste. We both tasted the same thing and couldn't quite put our fingers on what it reminded us of. I decided to split one open and smell the meat itself and it smelled like AMMONIA! Think Windex, dirty cat box etc etc. Not slightly, but so strongly that it burned my nostrils. I did a little google searching and was appalled with the results. A chlorinated or ammonia-like scent indicates spoilage and bacterial growth in shrimp. My friend's brother is a classically trained chef and also warned that what we were smelling is a tell tale sign of spoilage. We alerted the waitress who admitted to being stuffy and congested and couldn't smell what we were smelling, so I flagged down another waitress who's face said it ALL when she took a whiff. She could smell it and said it was strong. She looked absolutely disgusted. We then spoke to the manager, whom, even more than the shrimp, is the reason for my one star review. While we calmly explained the situation, he was antisocial, argumentative and literally incapable of a sincere apology or rational explanation. We went back and forth with him for a good 30 minutes while he admitted to smelling the foul smell but tried to come up with every excuse in the book and even discredited his own coworker at one point. While I am still unsure WHY our shrimp smelled and tasted this way, I do know that shrimp should never smell like ammonia in any capacity. They are somehow mishandling the shrimp or purposely selling expired food. The manager can swear up and down that this isn't true all he wants but that doesn't change reality or the fact that the waitress admitted to us that she has heard several similar complaints. Heed my warning and take caution while eating at Plank. Food poisoning is no joke and customer safety is clearly not at the top of their priority list. read more

My husband and I were passing through the area and wanted to try something new! Plank was just what I needed to satisfy my seafood craving! I ordered to gulf shrimp (it is bacon wrapped) and mmmm! Probably the best tasting shrimp plate I've ever had! Our server Blake, was excellent, water glasses were kept full, and hot towels were provided with our artichoke appetizer which was very good with the garlic aioli. Brought my family here for a birthday celebration. Overall, we were quite pleased. Arrived early enough to take advantage of their generous happy hour menu. Sampled the clams, hush puppies, cheese curds and the blue point oysters. The clams were excellent, but the hush puppies a little dry without a strong, memorable flavor. We had the shrimp brochettes, southern platter, fish and chips and chicken tenders. The fish (chips) was somewhat soggy and my daughter did not finished, but all others were well above average. Hands down the rudest service we've ever had at a restaurant in Omaha. We went out for a family dinner, thought things were going fine and when we went to pay the bill, we handed the server two gift cards and our credit card to cover the tab (a large one at that). When the bill came back, the balance reflected only a portion of the gift cards had been used. When we brought it up to our waitress Summer, she became defense immediately and told us she didn't want to "argue with us". We were so shocked we gladly agreed to speak with the manager instead of her. We attempted to resolve the issue, which after much difficulty with their online e-card service, we resolved it. Only to look over at Summer who was laughing at our table and mocking the situation. We liked the food but won't be back because of the rude service. read more

Plank was a stand-out of the crowd happy hour bar, in a sea of fun places! They have a raw bar with fresh seafood flown in daily!! Fantastic! $1.25 per oyster! The cocktails on the happy hour menu were unique, and well priced, but even more importantly, well made and delicious! The best part of Plank was the bartenders and bar crew. Personable, and helpful, Taylor helped us with suggestions about other interesting places in Omaha. Riley, was quick to fill up the water glass as I was slowing down on the cocktails. We live downtown in the old market. We have our choices. We've been to Plank at least a half dozen times and I would say that 5 of those 6 times they've screwed up. Whether it's the order, or waiting outrageously for our take out, it's been frustrating. Especially frustrating because we order our peel and eat shrimp and clam chowder and I know it's all right there. Just bag it and send it over to me. Each time they've got it wrong I talk to a (different) manager. (A sign?). Each time they offer a gift card. Sorry. Not sorry. Today was my birthday, went out with my Mom and brother. The food was moderately good (mahi mahi tacos not so much, lobster roll fabulous) but the service was not what we had expected. The food here is amazing. My husband and I came for our anniversary (it was the first place in Omaha we went on a date). We ordered the calamari for an appetizer which was perfectly cooked and came with some really tasty dipping sauces. I had the diver scallops and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I've had. The combination of flavors was so good. We love coming here, the food and servers are always amazing!! The 3 people working the host/hostess stand left something to be desired. We requested to sit in a booth and we were sat near a window at a tall table on the most uncomfortable stools. So we again requested a booth(there were 3 open) and it seemed like a huge inconvenience that we asked. Enroute to DSM. Stayed a night in Omaha and stumbled upon Planks. It was still happy hour and we definitely wanted to take part in that. We waited maybe ten minutes and were seated but got drinks at the bar before hand. Ordered oysters --- yup, oysters in Omaha. Almost an oxymoron right?! Got some gumbo for the kiddo, cheese curds, catfish, and oysters. Everything was pretty dang good -- my wife doesn't even like oysters and she enjoyed her oyster shooter!!! Oysters came out way late...like, the server forgot way late but they did come out and there very good. Our comped the oysters and my beer -- extremely nice of him to do that. We weren't even mad about it but much appreciated. Our daughter loved the food, the coloring page, and the temp tattoos! Will be back when we're coming through Omaha again. read more

It's a perfect spot to take friends or coworkers of mixed pallets as there is something for everyone. I also enjoyed their bar to table service. Well just just back from The Plank where I had their 10w30 grease fried, oyster flavored puff balls, which the menu called fried oysters & my SO had the Naked Salmon. My oysters, if in fact there was a trace of oyster anywhere to be found in these lovely golden fried grease balls remains a mystery. When the friendly server asked what I thought of them after eating, all I could say was, Back to the Drawing Board!! Before I ordered, he sort of hinted at the fact that the greasy puff balls were actually made from bits & pieces, or scraps of oysters, perhaps in a second process of an oyster shucking factory??? & that they had just changed how they prepared them. I guess I missed his cue which was probably, I wouldn't do that if I were you!! Oh well! Now my SO, the Doctor, MD's, salmon from my POV, didn't look bad at all. However after we left & I asked her how it was, she said it was totally greasy and that she had ordered it because she wanted something dry & healthy like salmon usually is, if it's not tampered with & that her side were the same. She even mentioned the TRANSFAT word!! Now the plus sides; The house salads were just OK but they looked like they were prepared early in the day & from the chill on the plates, probably were. It was like 9p when we arrived. The decor is quite pleasant but the BG music was blaring when we came in & when I mentioned it to the server, he said he could turn it down if I wished & he did. The moral of this story can be summed up with this aside; when I moved to the Big o from Chicago & went shopping the first time at a big grocery store, I asked the clerk in the fish dept. what fish was fresh & not frozen, he looked at me like I was mad and said, " Nothing Fresh it's all frozen... where do you think you are, this is NEBRASKA!" I will say that although I am very much a fan of the other restaurants owned by this company, this one is not worth my time. I tasted several things here: the oysters, Manhattan clam chowder, alligator, and the artichokes. Let's start with the beginning of the experience. The service was fine, however, the explanation of the oyster specials was rather unnerving. Their 12.50/21 ratios up on the chalk board were for 6 oysters or 12 oysters. It appeared their happy hour was better than their competition, but really, their happy hour is still higher priced than others. I will give them the benefit that the oysters did seem very fresh. Oysters: While fresh, they weren't very clean. While the meat was tasty, they were still dirty. Alligator: The price for the alligator was apparently more for the fried onions they had on the plate. There were only a few pieces of alligator. And there was no salt or pepper on the plate, everything was bland and the alligator was dry. Clam chowder: This is not Manhattan clam chowder. While it was alright, it was nothing more extravagant than taking a can of vegetable soup and adding diced bits of clam. Artichokes: They could have used more cooking before putting the flame to them. The leaves were under cooked enough that I could not get the meat off of the choke. The heart was the only part thoroughly cooked, but anyone who eats whole artichokes knows there is meat on the choke leaves that should be cooked. I will pass on this place. The price is NOT worth the mediocre food. read more

I don't normally...well EVER! write reviews, but I must share my experience at Plank. sorry for it being so lengthy, but I must not leave anything out. My husband turned 50 yesterday, 8-2-20, & although we take social distancing very seriously, I wanted to make this milestone special. We are seafood junkies and a co-worker was pretty convincing that Plank was by far, the best in town. 1st contact with one of the Managers, to make the actual reservation, was outstanding!! She was very understanding and offered the Party room, which holds 20+ people, to us, for a party room for 2. I was able to decorate as I pleased. The staff offered to help. I was just floored by the customer service! 2nd Manager, that was actually at the restaurant on the day of the reservation, was even more accommodating. The service that he and the staff provided was one for the books. AND THE FOOD. OMG!! Not only was the presentation amazing, but the taste. YUM!! The Manager and staff offered complimentary wine, checked in frequently with us, (but not in an annoying way), and just made it the perfect 1st experience at Plank. My husband was quite pleased!! Thanks to Everyone at Plank. The entire staff was Awesome! read more
