If you're looking for a no-frills spot that focuses on doing a couple things really well, Mo Fish is worth checking out. The menu is simple--catfish and walleye are the stars--and honestly, that's all they need. Both were cooked perfectly with great flavor, crispy on the outside and tender inside. Portions are large. Sides are about what you'd expect: classic coleslaw and wedge fries. Nothing fancy, but they get the job done and pair well with the fish. Service was friendly and efficient, which made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. The only real downside is that everything is served in styrofoam cups and plastic utensils. Came with 3 other people and e all ordered the same meal, so I can only describe the catfish dinner. I am on the fence about my rating, I would like to give it 3 1/2 stars, but the service was excellent so that pushed them to 4. The catfish was cooked perfectly and awesomely crispy, I do enjoy my crispy fish, but the flavor was good, not great, it could have had a little more seasoning IMHO. The fries were great, crispy, nicely browned and fresh as was the fish. The Cole slaw was a total meh. If you order a drink, either order no ice or light ice because after you finished your drink, you had more than half a cup of ice left. They had 2 hot sauces, one from a store and one they make themselves, I definitely suggest you opt for the house sauce, it was awesome. If you've ever had Crystal hot sauce, it was like that but better. It is no frills, drinks in styrofoam cups, packaged plastic ware and food served in a basket, I had no problem with that. It was eclecticly decorated with a fish theme which is way cute and the restaurant was clean and didn't smell like fish grease. I was going to order fried pickles, but $9.99 was a bit much, but the meal itself was on the high end of on par with other fish places I've been to my dinner was $15.99 I had 4 pieces of decent sized filets and fair helping of fries and a styrofoam 6 oz cup of cole slaw. Stopped here for the first time last Friday late afternoon. We love walleye and so of course had to have that. The fish was fine. Big disappointment though is that they don't make their own tartar sauce, it is from a jar. How do you have a seafood place and not make your own? To be fair they had what they called a "spicy" sauce which they make, but it wasn't very spice and was mostly mayo. We had different sides, the "french fries" are really potato wedges. The cole slaw is a creamy coleslaw, it tasted okay but i personally just prefer more vinegary like KFC. Also tried the baked beans, tastes just like Campbells from a can, I would recommend passing on those. The potato salad tasted like the run of the mill potato salad in every grocery store deli. Good food. Attentive and friendly service. I tried the fried catfish sandwich with fries and it was pretty good. It's mildly seasoned and there's not a ton of breading. I didn't eat much of the bun because I decided against the sandwich and the fish was good without it. We also tried the fried okra and that was good as well. The Cycling Frog "social" beverages were really good. We tried the black currant and wild cherry flavors. Both were good, but I liked black currant the best. We did feel a nice little buzz from these so something to keep in mind. This was my first visit. They have ample seating and the dining area is clean. Been hankering for some catfish and Mo's is always the referred when I bring up this craving. So figured why not try. Came right after opening just to see the sign on the door that they only accept cash. Went to my personal banks ATM because I'm cheap and don't wanna pay fees obviously relatable to the business lol. When we got back a few minutes later; one kid ordered his comfort chicken planks, the other tried frog legs, and I got the 1/2lb catfish. The cheese curds that my son got with the frog leg were delicious. The frog legs were a first for my kid and I tried a bite as well. Definitely not my forte; had watery after taste like fish tank in my opinion. The portion of the baked beans is a small cup just a tad larger than the cup the sauce comes out in. They were yum. The catfish that was the main point of the visit was thick and appropriate for the cost. I didn't taste much seasoning so it did end up doused in the red devil available at the table. I'm not sure how a restaurant in Council Bluffs - in the middle of the country - manages to have fantastic seafood, but Mo Fish does. Small seafood restaurant with all the trappings; e.g nets and fish traps hanging from the ceiling and signed one dollar bills tacked to the walls. Place sells a variety of fish to include catfish and perch. They also have shrimp and clams. Baskets come out with a decent portion of fish. Sides are tasty, but rather small. Service is good and the prices are reasonable. You just have to find the place which is slightly off the beaten trail. Kind of sits by itself in an area that you would not normally look. read more

The waitress was friendly. We went in about 12:30 on a week day. It took a long time for our order to arrive. About 20 minutes. I had the catfish which was nicely breaded it just didn't have much taste. The coleslaw was in a small container. The cabbage was wilted and limp, the dressing was not looking appetizing. It had been sitting in a refrigerator for awhile. The waitress was friendly. They only accept cash even though there is an ATM 5 feet from the counter. That makes sense to someone, I guess. A short trip across the river from Omaha in an unsuspecting strip mall is Mo Fish. Being raised in Missouri and having lived in Arkansas one of the things I missed in Nebraska was Cornmeal Battered Fried Catfish. I had tried every fish restaurant suggested, but all left me sad. Then along comes Mo Fish, a quaint little place tucked off the highway in a strip mall. Somehow these "hole in the wall" places always produce the best food. Love the catfish, haven't tried anything else on the menu, so can't rate anything else, but the catfish, service and price are a solid 10. Based on recommendations from two fellow Yelpers, 'Alyssa' Lyss and 'Tutti' Frutti, tonight I decided to give Mo Fish a try. As said by Florida Evans on Good Times, Damn Damn Damn!!!!!! It was absolutely delicious and hands down the best I've had in my short time here in Omaha. For appetizers we ordered fried okra and fried pickle spears and our entrees consisted of catfish and beans for me and walleye and cole slaw for the Mrs. The appetizers arrived piping hot and I was glad to see that they use a thin batter instead of flour or corn meal.....at least that's how it appeared to me. I would be remiss if I didn't warn you that you get A LOT of food and I'm just talking about the appetizers! By the time the entrees arrived, I had already downed 15 okra pieces and two pickle spears. I was just warming up! The entrees arrived and I dug in with a vengeance! The fish was plentiful, hot, and fresh! My wife, although far less glutinous, abandoned the diva persona and went straight sista girl.......hot sauce and all! Everything was great but she gave special props to the cole slaw; she's picky about slaw. I tried it and couldn't agree more! The beans and steak fries were also a standout. To top it all off Trent, the owners son, epitomizes the definition of EXCELLENT customer service. This is really, really good fish. I've been three times in as many weeks. I've tried catfish and carp- both are great. I have some tips though... Don't get the half & half (catfish/carp) mix... You get less fish than when you just stick to one kind, and they charge you an extra $2 for doing it. Also skip "1/2" portions. I tried this for lunch and while I got half as much food, the price only dropped from $10 to $8. $2 can of pop also took me by surprise. This is in our area and I always say " I'm gonna stop in there soon" but until the other day I never did. Its a cool place, reminds of the fish houses that you see out on the coasts or the Bay. The decor is awesome for me, taxidermy fish everywhere you look, nets and proud fisherman posing with their catch adorn the ceiling and walls. The hammerhead above the cash register sets it all off. We were greeted by a super friendly server, we explained that it was our first time in. She was very helpful. We ordered the spicy fried pickles to start along with an order of fried shrimp. The pickles were spears coated in a light batter that were pleasantly spicy. The shrimp were butterflied and very big. Served with a decent cocktail sauce, they hit the spot. We ordered a 1/2 lb catfish basket with fries and baked beans and a Basket of fried clams with fries and slaw. I am a Catfish aficionado but had to try anyway. The portions were good, the Beans and slaw portions were of the lunch size. Both had a great taste. The Clams were the superstar for us. Big Clams with a flavorful batter and they stole the show. I could see were the catfish would be good for most folks but it was lacking in taste for my liking. The batter was good and crispy, maybe I just prefer wild fish? This place is solid and there is no mistake this is a seafood restaurant. For those that don't eat fish they do have chicken fingers. However, they have begun closing even earlier than they used to (7pm instead of 8) and are so frantic to shut down that they are cleaning up around you. The waitress even tried to pickup a basket one of us wasn't finished with. The check came very soon after the food. No, we weren't lingering. This was the last time for us. One of the waitresses said they close so early because she has to be there at 7 am. Sounds like they need a solution that doesn't alienate their trade. Glad Luftis opened on 30th now. Been looking for a replacement for the long long gone Florence Fish Market in North Omaha. And Joe Tess's on 13th Street just hasn't been a big deal for at least 20 years now.
