Local Community Center and Gym: Settled in North Plano is the city's YMCA. This location offers fitness classes, Childcare, weights and machines, a basketball area and more. My go-to are the Les Mills classes - BodyPump, Body Combat. I enjoy that there is a community of folks who want to get and stay healthy and they are always willing to help and guide. Parking is easy, but with the location being in the neighborhood and baseball/soccer fields, you'll see locals walking to this location. All that is missing is a pool - in which all Collin County locations could use for exercise. The Y also offers personal training and community events. read more

I must express my disappointment with the facility and the way it's managed. The Welness Center Guidelines are not enforced, even after numerous complaints. They need to post this in front of the treadmills. The first item of not using cellphones on the wellness floor is not enforced. Last week on two different days there were members on the treadmill having conversations for most of the hour. One individual used FaceTime for around 30 minutes. I even stopped my machine, turned sideways and watched him for 10 minutes hacking away. Since the staff won't do anything I feel I have no choice but to escalate the situation myself with one one engagements with the offenders. read more

Worst place I've been to ever since I started working out. AVOID this place or at your own risk. 1. Limited choice of gears and equipments; 2. Weekend hours are relatively short which is kind of inconvenient 3. Attitude issue I have been with gymnasiums both in Asia and North America and for the first time in my life, someone had actually accused me of "dressing inappropriate for a family place" in my face while I'm lifting weights in my Nike tanktop! Not trying to victimize myself, but I did recall that a similar incident happened earlier to a girl who also was body-shamed and mistreated and now I know how that feels. Trust me, the ideology of a "family place" does not give the right to slut-judge a woman. Those tanks, which are common wardrobe and have been worn for years and I swear that they did nothing but being comfortable and sweat absorbing. Long story short, after being attacked and violated for their ridiculous reason, which was not mentioned upon subscription of membership, I decided to share my experience and moving on and I hope what happens to me may ring a bell for those who are considering about this place. Been a member for the last 3 months and I think I have a good feel for this place. The YMCA gym is a nice, family friendly facility. It's got a good selection of gym equipment: Machines, free weights, etc. There's also a great selection of classes ranging from cycling to Zumba to Bollywood! Thankfully there's not a lot of those screaming muscle heads on roids here! It feels like a gym that's perfect for the family. This review is on behalf Salman Taghizadeh. I, Sam Taghizadeh have been a member of PLANO FAMILY YMCA located on 3300 McDermott Rd, Plano Texas since 2015! I love the facility and the community. The variety of classes is fabulous, and the price is right. The YMCA was always right for me, kept me active and loving it! The gym is always clean and there is plenty of equipment so even if it is busy you typically do not have to wait for. I have always enjoyed going to my local YMCA, the Director, Associate Executive Kathy Taylor and her staff are super friendly and helpful who love to help and talk to you.. The YMCA has a large assortment of weight machines, elliptical and treadmills. This YMCA also has a large area of free weights including machines that use the free weights so there is enough for everyone to get their workout in without waiting. I definitely recommend this location for someone to get their workout in. I like how YMCA is a family friendly environment. The classes are fun and appropriate and the facility is clean. I get that YMCA is a family gym and have read through their policies. Nowhere does it say crop tops are not allowed. Apparently I was told they are not appropriate for a family facility. I think this is absolutely bogus and sexist. I'm sorry but if you are sexualizing the one inch of skin on my stomach showing then you need therapy. I canceled my membership same day. Might I also add YMCA has no problem using photos of women in sports bras for advertisement. Additionally, to really amp up my experience, I was hit on by a personal trainer who works at YMCA and things became extremely uncomfortable when I turned him down. 0/5 stars. read more

Family place and Good for value. New equipment's and Friendly staff. There are many classes like Yoga, Karate, Zumba etc for women, Kids. Day care is great facility. But i would say they've huge space available where they can add more things like Pool, Steam Room etc. Also, they still scan manually one person at a time while entry thats little time waster. One of the best YMCAs I've been to in terms of gym amenities, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere. The gym was well-stocked with free weights and more. The other members were very nice, and I was able to work in sets when needed. Everything was clean, and the area was spacious. Lockers and showers were pretty standard. Staff was friendly. We just moved here from NY and finding a gym that works for both of us was a huge priority. I need cardio machines and an array of gym classes, while my boyfriend needs a good weight room. After a search of the gyms in the area, we opted to do the free 7 day pass before joining the gym. Everyone I have interacted with at the front desk has been extremely friendly and helpful! We came in 6 out of the 7 days and decided this was the gym for us. So far I've gone to spin class (with Kelly) and will definitely be taking more classes as the days go on. The gym is clean. They have fresh out of the dryer towels at the front desk to use during your workout. I love that they have multiple rooms for classes, as well as a great list of different classes. They have an adult only locker room as well as a separate family locker room. Complimentary tea and coffee are in the front near the gym day care. So far so good! read more

Be very careful with signing up because signing off is close to impossible. If you have autopay the billing will continue. You cannot fill forms and expect them to be processed so scan your form that you sign, email it yourself and save a copy. Check your credit card the next month to be sure that it has stopped. They will ask you to come in person if you are leaving or out of town. You will of course experience this serial mess while having a serial pleasant experience with their very pleasant staff. read more

Do not send your kids to this camp! My son was excited for his first year at camp with swimming and field trips included every week, but after 2 days of disappointment and frustration, my husband and I decided to pull him out. The first day when I went to pick my son up, there was a line to pick up the kids and the camp counselor was screaming at the top of her lungs at two young girls telling them to sit down, while also shaming one of them for pretending to be sick. The lady in front of me was asked for the name of her child and the counselor yelled for another counselor to find her kid (instead of having walkie talkies, or getting up and walking). Then it was my turn. The young lady took my ID to check and see if I was on the list to pick up my child and then got distracted and had to scream at the two girls once more. She then forgot she was helping me, and asked the dad behind me who he was there to pick up and screamed for another counselor to find his kids. I'm standing there waiting for her to "scream" for my son and instead she picks up her phone and starts scrolling...I said "hi, I still need my son"...she said "oh yaaaa, you can just go in and find him". I was in shock, you want me to go in and just grab any child, not even checking to see if I am on the pick up list for that specific child!?!?? So, I walk in and there are tons of kids everywhere. I finally find my son and asked a counselor where his bag might be (as they were scattered all among the walls of the basketball gym). She said that there wasn't any organization to it and asked me what color it was! What happened to organizing by last name, group, color, number...anything!!! Anyway...I told her our bag was black and after a 15 minute hunt...we found his bag dumped out everywhere and his lunch box was no where to be found. I think the worst part of the camp was the second day....when I went to the pool to make sure my 6 year old, that just completed swim lessons, was okay swimming in the deeper parts. It was again a disorganized disaster. To sum this story up: life jacket put on wrong, too crowded to where the kids were getting jumped on and couldn't even swim around, counselors couldn't keep an eye on all their kids at the same time, two different school groups were put into the same area making it too crowded, kids taking other kids things and at the end I heard a counselor say that all the drinking water was gone bc the other group drank all of it. My sons group got NO water in 106 degree heat index weather!!!! They were not allowed to bring their bags to the pool, so all the kids had to carry their towel, sunscreen, shoes, swim toys/goggles, etc. After all of that, I went to pick him up and the camp director was sitting at the pick up table. I told her I was there to pick up my son and she started to look for his paperwork to make sure I was on the list for pick up....then...she couldn't find any of his paperwork!!!! So, your telling me that if anything happened to my son that you would have no idea who to contact in the case of an emergency!?!?!! Nonetheless, how do you have my son in camp for two days without paperwork? The director told me that she would get the paperwork tomorrow. I asked if she needed to check my ID to take my son and she said "NO that's okay". How is that in anyway okay???! Two days in a row some random person that you and your camp counselor have never seen or met before just picked up a child from your camp? Unacceptable! I should report you to the state. Actually, I probably will! I'm warning all parents that if you want your kids to be safe and feel comfortable leaving them with counselors that are responsible, then DO NOT go to this camp! PS: when we got home, I realized my sons face was bright red from getting sun burned. I asked him about his sunscreen that I packed for him and he said the counselors told them to put it on themselves. He is 6! If your going to do that , then you have to make sure each of them put it all over, including their faces!!!! read more

Great Workout Experience. The group classes held here are by well trained professionals and they really make sure you get a good workout. Variety of options to choose from right from free weights to zumba, pilates, step, cyclying and best of all yoga. I am really benefiting from going to these classes since they keep me motivated and charged up. The staff is very friendly and so are other attendees. The premises is clean and they towels they provide are well sanitized. Prices are decent and students have special benefits, The gym area and free weights section are well maintained and are in plenty. Id defenitely recommend YMCA anyday specially if you are in Plano/Frisco/Allen areas, this one is a good option for a workout regime. read more

I joined the Y after an epic LifeTime Fitness fail. The Y in Plano is a great gym for a great price. The facilities are clean, the childcare place is very friendly and right next to the workout floor, the staff is always friendly, helpful and nice. I used to work out with a personal trainer (A.G.). He is by far one of the best trainers I've met. I would still work out there if I hadn't moved to another state. read more

stay very far away. Its cheaper at 24hour and you get machines that actually work. Yea they have nice cardio machines at the Y, but not everyone does only cardio. Also if you cancel your membership you have to cancel 30 days ahead in order to not pay another time. I've never heard of that, anytime I canceled, my membership canceled immediately and ended that current paid period. The place is very unclean and disgusting too. I almost seriously hurt myself because a lot of the machines and benches are so old and broken. The only good thing is the front desk people are generally nice, but I will say they aren't very knowledgeable about the processes going on and the information that people need for memberships. Also one of the top persons working told me they cannot do refunds at all, so apparently if they accidentally charge you they cannot refund you. That is obviously a lie because no place of business that accepts money as payment cannot run a business without being able to do refunds. stay away like the plague. read more

This YMCA location has it all! You will find a fantastic variety of workout options, complete child care facility and a friendly & caring staff. My first visit was for a Toastmasters meeting in March 2014 and was impressed with all they offer. Highly recommend them for a total wellness experience! read more

I can't really comment much on the workout facility - there is plenty of cardio equipment and everything I have used works fine. The summer preschool has been great, though (my 5yo has had so much fun and they've definitely kept him busy and active all day) and the staff/teachers are all very friendly. read more

You will never find a speck of rust on any piece of equipment. 5) Silver Sneakers is a program that will allow certain Medicare patients to receive a free (100% free) membership. This is a great program and works for numerous benefits for elderly individuals. There is no catch except that you will have to renew annually which isn't usually a problem. Do Not mistake this for "Senior Individual/Family Membership". 6) 7 Day Guest Pass. You can receive a guest pass good for a week just by walking in and asking. They will not harass you about joining, call your home, etc. 7) Front Desk is generally full of nice fun people who will talk to you when you're tired of working out. Fitness Floor attendants are the same. They can help from spotting you on the bench to helping mix up your workout. In particular, Paul Brown for the fitness floor staff is one of the greatest people alive. He might be the only reason you stay put at the Y. He will go above and beyond to help you and your workout. Cons: 1. Pricey (Individual $50/initiation, $49/month; Family $95 initiation, $71 monthly; All prices: russellcreekymca.org/Index.cfm?FuseAction=Page&PageID=1002089) The interesting thing about the YMCA is that they have an Income-Based membership where you're membership rate can be discounted based on your household income (from your W2 Form); however the discounted rate doesn't place that great of a dent to the overall price except for in lower income households. 2. No Pool. For that price you would expect a pool. (They mention a "Splash Park". It the size of a small room and for Child-Watch Children only) 3. Basketball court is only 1/4 court with old basketball balls. For that price you would expect more. 4. Children cannot be left unattended. You would assume a family-friendly YMCA would allow children freedom to sit in the waiting area unattended but Management frowns on that and will request you put them into the Child-Watch area (additional ~$10/month depending on number of children) 5. Child-Watch not free. For the membership prices being so high, you would expect Child-Watch to be included. It is an additional charge to the membership. They do, however, offer the service to children as little as months old. 6. Managers leave to go home very early. If you do have a problem, ask to go straight to a Jayson Killough or a Tiffanie Huffmaster. They will get the job done quickly. (Carly Markell may forget your question entirely by the end of your conversation with her) Key Points: If you're going for classes, this is the place to join. You will not beat this place when it comes to classes (which are included in membership prices). If you're just looking for a place with some weights and cardio equipment, this place is too expensive if those are you're only concerns. For the price, you would expect a lot more. For it being a YMCA, you would think the rates would be modest. If you're going to pay this much, pay a little more a go to LifeTime Fitness, or pay less and drive a little farther to JustFitness, the Plano Recreation Center, or 24Hour Fitness etc. read more

Horrible Child care! Went there to try it out and couldn't believe how poor the staff was. Awful communication. I dropped my kids into the child care and said it was my first time. Not only did I not get an explanation of how it works, I didn't even get a smile. No reassurance. My son is 10months old and I set a diaper down and said it was for him. They just stared at me and so I left. Now, I have left my kids at playcsre and with babysitters and all I ever hear is how easy they are. Less than an hour into my workout, the cold faced woman comes up to me and says, your son is crying. No explanation, but stared at me like I needed to pick him up. I went in and he was fine. No tears. No noise. But they handed him back with again absolutely no explanation, his pants were damp from his wet diaper and the one I left was still sitting on the sign in counter. I do t know if they have a no diaper changing policy but that should have been communicated when I brought it up. If you can't take care of a baby for an hour then you shouldn't accept them! This facility is literally around the corner from my house and I still won't be going there again. I would rather drive and find a gym with competent staff.
