It is rare for me to give a 5-star review to a restaurant, but if I was freer with my 5-star reviews, this one would have gotten it. The reason I took away a star is for essentially 2 reasons; first, the bathrooms felt creepily like a dungeon and second, the waitress never brought us our check. We waited for a very long time and then just went up to the bar to ask for it. In a fine dining establishment, you shouldn't have to get up to pay your check. Now let's talk about the good stuff. The food was immaculate. I got a pork belly and my husband got the burger. We also tried the lasagna, which was pretty good. The light fixtures were on point and their art was beautiful, possibly a local artist. The view of the ocean was also beautiful. There are indoor and outdoor seating options. It was a little bit too sunny and windy for us to eat outside so we sat inside and still had an amazing view. It was a great way to celebrate living in Mexico 2 years. read more

This place is exquisite. Situated directly on the Ocean in Ensenada Mexico. We were going to grab a drink after leaving a brewery just a few blocks down the street. We were the only people in the establishment. Please take note that this is over July 4th weekend & Mexico shut the border of Ensenada and surrounding cities to ensure it was not overcrowded with people who don't reside there. I think that was a good idea. It was interesting. The law states that if we wanted to have something to drinks we had to order food. We had just finished a delicious meal & weren't hungry, so fries it was. Lol. It was worth it. Keep in mind that if you want another drink you are required to order more food. I believe our servers names was Jorge. I apologize if I'm wrong. He was so kind, so nice, & so friendly & informative. We had some questions regarding the closures & he asked his Manager about it (it was where he had originally learned about them from the beginning. The menu I will say looked spectacular. Unfortunately as someone who does not eat meat or fish, there were only a few options on the menu. The entire menu looked tasty delicious & the few vegan/vegetarian options would be worth coming back for. It was currently closed due to COVID-19 however they have a Sky Bar on the rooftop which I can only imagine how gorgeous that view must be. ***Lastly, please be mindful that these are weird times in this world we live in. As we are all trying hard to get back to what is the new normal, remember that if don't want to follow the rules of any establishment (whether a restaurant grocery store, gas station, etcetera) you deffo do not have too; just remember they also don't have to serve you in any capacity that they don't want. Planta Baja is one of the standout restaurants in El Sauzal, which has an up-and-coming restaurant row just north of el centro Ensenada, MX. The food here is delicious and fresh, with large portions, and is plated quite nicely (yes, IG friendly!!). The views of the ocean are great and the service is impeccable. They also have a nice selection of wines and local craft beers. I dined here last weekend with a few friends and we were all impressed. Normally, epic ocean views translate to weak food showings but consider Planta Baja the rare exception. Can't wait to come back here upon my next visit to Ensenada, MX to try even more of their excellent fare. **Pro-tip:** Pay in pesos using your CC (your CC will give you the best exchange rate MXN to USD). We started with the shrimp cocktail it was delicious they brought little biscuits and the butter and sauce were are very tasty! I ordered the fish of the day which was White Sea bass it was delicious and my husband ordered the cheese burger. Our waiter was Daniel. He was not pleasant at all, rushed our orders and even said we had to order everything at once. Looked annoyed with everything we asked for. Food was not good except for the calabasa soup. The tortilla soup was salty. The aguachile was oily. The ribeye steak was not cooked as requested and tasted rubbery and old. Even the bread was bad. This is a fabulous little restaurant on the beach side of the highway on the northern end of town. It's a little hard to find with your GPS but its just across the street and south of the Oxxo by Taqueria el Trailero. The food is fantastic and the view is even better. We started with commentary freshly made bread followed by a fish ceviche rich in flavor and color. The charcuterie and meat board had a nice selection with a satisfying range of favors. The salad did disappoint but only because it was served with a dressing that tasted like bolognese sauce. I thought it was a mistake but by the time the waiter told us it was actually salad dressing we'd given up and moved on. The garlic shrimp were fresh, juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Rissoto was awesome but extremely rich and more fit for sharing than trying to eat the whole thing. Hands down best dish of the night was the pork belly. Epic. Wow! This is THE place for sunset happy hour. Amazing ocean front patio along with the sound of the waves. The food was great, as was the wonderful selection of beers and spirits. Try the Heradura Blanco Blanco. The fish tacos and calamari were excellent. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We had a bit of a mishap before our visit to the restaurant (sadly our car was broken into when we were in zona centro earlier in the day) and they went out of their way to help us out. They even taped up our shattered window while we were eating...imagine our surprise. This is our new favorite place for sunset happy hour in Ensenada. read more

Very pleased, will be back. We arrived at opening on a Sunday and learned that the kitchen opens a half hour after the venue/bar, so we grabbed a spot on the cliff and enjoyed the sun with some killer drinks. Two appetizers, three entrees, and a 2nd round of drinks later, no complaints whatsoever. I was surprised that the chicken torta was basically a ground chicken burger, and I wasn't even mad at it because it was so damn good. We drove about 10 minutes from where we were staying to reach this restaurant. It's at the entrance to Ensenada off the highway. Unfortunately the sky bar was closed which is what I was looking forward to, probably because it was December 30th and not many people in town. The menu has a few vegan options labeled "V" and a handful of vegetarian options labeled "VEG". I ordered the coconut risotto and the green salad. The salad was delicious with the orange dressing and the risotto... I can't say enough. I took the rest home and heated it up the next day and it was just as good. Honestly one of the best dishes I've ever had in my life. My boyfriend got the ceviche. While smaller, he said it was good. We got complimentary bread and asked the waiter if it had eggs or butter in it. At first he said yes, went to the kitchen, came back, apologized and let us know it was vegan bread. It was so good. A little pricier (still affordable for those who aren't accustomed to Mexican prices) but I would definitely come back for the risotto and to see the sky bar. read more

I ordered a drink that I didn't finish because it was way too strong. I even had my boyfriend taste it and he also agreed. If you are planning a family dinner the menu is not very kid friendly. Amazing view of the ocean. We went on a Friday night and it was nearly empty so it was perfect for date night. I'm vegan and the menu is limited but still glad they had an option. I got the hamburguesa de champiñones (mushroom burger) it was good but not my favorite I prefer black bean burgers. The salad that came along with it was delicious. My husband and I found this place accidentally and we were so glad we did. I had the garlic shrimp and my husband had the risotto, both dishes were so good. It was surprisingly reasonably priced for the quality they provide. We paid about $40 for a glass of wine and two delicious dishes. They give you warm bread and traditional mexican spread.
