Poor workmanship and terrible work done by subs this company uses. Had a full pool remodel 2016; pebble tec, tile install, and pool slide repair and remodel. The subs used quickcrete instead of proper tile grout, we found tubes in the trash, and the pool slide paint and epoxy, came off within a year as they used substandard materials. They were not monitored by Dennis and Denny. Pool tile started to crack within a year and water leaks around the pool deck. Beware! You may find problems a year or two after they complete the work. read more

I spent most of 2021 working with Dennis and Platinum Pools to bring my vision to life. I must say I'm more than pleased. It turned out even better than I previously thought. I decided to go with a black bottom pool. Dennis advised only around 10% of his clients go that dark. So happy I went with it. Add abalone shells to the mix so at night it literally looks like the Milky Way when the lights are on. Went with Porcelein tile with a wood look. Not the cheapest but exactly how I wanted it to happen. Denny the project manager was great to work with and their crews were dedicated and did great work. Russel, Dennis' partner is seriously the best. He takes his passion of working with customers and was at my house doing the finishing work. Such a great guy and he really took care of me. We signed a contract with Dennis, the owner of Platinum Pool Company, on 9/7/22. The specs of our job were refinishing the plaster to be pebbletec, new coping and tile, installing a baja shelf, auto-fill, and replacing the skimmer. PROS: The work was completed* in the agreed upon timeframe. We're happy with the quality of most of the work. CONS: Be aware that after you sign with Dennis you'll be handed over to his father (Denny) who is the project manager. We complained multiple times about the communication with Denny. He would often show up without proper notice, whether to do work or collect payment. A challenge when you're working from home and expected to drop everything to accommodate Platinum. Denny is often condescending and doesn't listen. We even reached a point of requesting to only speak with Dennis moving forward. As for the work itself, we ran into two problems. First, the tile/grout on the wall between our spa and pool is less than ideal and inconsistent with the workmanship on the rest of the pool. We were told (by the owner) to choose tile of a certain size and with a mesh backing. What we weren't told was that we'd have a runway of 1/2" thick grout on both sides of the ledge. It looks like a landing strip. Had we been advised to be aware of this spot, we would have chosen a taller tile which could have filled the space better. The other problem we ran into was the pool and spa lights. We specifically requested color LED lights and even had it put in the written contract. Both my husband and I asked the workers if the lights we were seeing in the boxes were color. They assured us they were. However, we were told we couldn't turn on the lights until the pool was filled. When the guy came to do the water treatment once it was filled, we learned that the lights are white and not color. When we took this up with Denny, he told us the color lights were on backorder and that they decided to install the white lights instead. Of course this was without asking us first or getting our approval. It's at this point that we requested to only speak with Dennis (the owner). We requested to speak with him on the phone first before any fix be attempted. We wanted to insure brand new color lights would be used as the replacements, the work would be done by an electrician, and that the quality of the seal of the lights would be the same as if they'd used the correct lights to begin with/before the pool was filled. We requested a call with Dennis multiple times and have still yet to hear from him. For reference, we became aware of the light problem on 10/24/22 which is the same day we requested a call with Dennis. We emailed again and left voicemails. It's now 12/19/22 and we still have yet to talk to the owner. We've paid every portion of the contract, except the lights. Given no response from Dennis, we've had to move forward with engaging another company to replace the lights. Overall both my husband and I do not feel confident in recommending Platinum Pool Company. Problems arise on any job, but the breakdown of communication we've experienced is unacceptable. read more

People who put in a 150% are very rare. I called and left a voicemail message with Platinum Pool Company on Saturday morning about a leak in my spa that required a new skimmer. I received a text back from Dennis a couple of hours later. He was at a wedding. Even so, he answered my questions about when can he could perform the repairs and about how long it would take to complete? Could he get the brick on the coping to match? Since, according to the leak detection company, they would be demolished, and difficult to match. Finally, I asked what's the Warranty? I told him that he could get back to me on Monday if necessary and that he was really awesome for working and corresponding with me when when he was at a wedding. Dennis immediately responded: "There is a possibility we could do it this Monday and it would take 2 days :) we are really good, we could save and reuse the bricks so you won't be able to tell." He also wrote that he would send me a contract on Sunday which he did, and I promptly signed it. As promised, his team showed up on Monday and finished in 2 days; Even though there was a broken pipe that also required repair. The brick coping had been skillfully cut out, salvaged, and replacd. There is virtully no sign of coping repairs. Once again, The leak detection / repair company had told me they could not do the leak repair because they did not feel that they could repair the brick coping, or match it successfully. Platinum's Workers are super skilled and beyond hard-working. The cost of Platinum's repair was more than fair and hIghly competitive it was, in fact, less expensive than others. Although we have a smaller pool, Dennis still gave the same care as he would to a much bigger job by answering all the calls and texts sent about the best color to use and all the after care. The pool, jacuzzi, paver deck, stone, and tile all look beautiful -- see photos for proof! 2. The process. Overall, it went pretty well although we had delays due to Covid which was beyond anyone's control. The City took 4 months to permit. 3. Dennis was very helpful from the start. Russell was very helpful in setting up the pool equipment in the final stages. i appreciated that he met with my new pool cleaner to ensure a smooth transition / "hand off". 7. Finally, the overall project stayed on budget which was huge. I appreciated that Dennis and Denny were clear about the project scope and handled scope changes (at our request) without any undue surprises at the end. And to be fair, a couple of "cons": 8. The construction took longer than the 90 days as provided in the contract-- probably closer to 120 days. Having said that, we know that Covid caused many delays and/or factors beyond their control (e.g., rain). Still, we were disappointed that we did not have our pool by the end of summer. 9. We did not include the BBQ Island as part of the initial project scope (our decision) but when we asked it to be added later, the cost nearly doubled. We hired Platinum Pools after weeks of meeting with and getting bids from lots of (both big and small) pool building companies.  This being our first pool, we wanted to make sure we made the right decision on a contractor.   From the first phone call we felt very comfortable with Dennis (also the owner).  He was very knowledgeable and came out (himself vs sending a sales person like many of the other companies did) the very next day to visit the site and meet.  From that initial meeting we knew he was our guy and the hunt was over.  He was knowledgeable, realistic, and we felt we could trust him and his work.  He even offered to take us to jobs he completed nearby to see the workmanship and speak to other past clients.     Once we signed the contract with Dennis, we hit the ground running.  We met with his designer/plan preparer the very next day.  The designer (and Dennis) was able to take my (crazy and all over the place) ideas and vision and turn it into something better than I imagined.  We even added a built-in fire pit and BBQ counter to the design which I am SOOO happy we did.    Within days after permits in hand, demo began and everything moved quickly.  His crews are polite and respectful and know what they are doing.  Their mason (I think his name is Sergio) is a true artist and my kids loved watching how patient and particular he completed each task from installing the pool tiles and coping to building the BBQ area.   Unfortunately, it rained for about a week after the steel was installed in the pool so we had to put things on hold for a few extra days until it passed.  Once the rain was gone, Dennis and the project manager Deny were here bright and early with water pumps and had the project back on track in no time.     Before hiring Platinum Pools I had already picked out the tile that I wanted to use to go around the pool area that I saw in a showroom at MSI.  I didn't even think about how slippery this could get once water gets involved (later I realized the tile I wanted was for indoor use only, I had no idea there was a difference).  We are so grateful Dennis and his awesome designer brought this to our attention at our initial meeting and recommended a porcelain tile by Pera Tile that is made specifically for pool decking... it has a special magic grip already added to it so its WAY less slippery when wet.  It looks almost exactly the same (I actually like it better) and it was less expensive!   It would have been a nightmare going with the tile I was set on having kids running around the pool area.   Needless to say, our experience with Platinum Pools has beyond exceeded our expectations.  Our finished backyard looks amazing!  Dennis and/or Deny were in constant communication with us, kept us in the loop of the scheduling, what to expect, answered our questions in a way we could understand, and even got the project completed two weeks faster then promised.  From the initial meeting, to the designer, their crews, to the final walkthrough we have been impressed.  We are so glad we choose Dennis and recommend Platinumm Pools to anyone looking to upgrade their space read more

The color looks great against the rocks and you can't beat the warranty! Fast forward 3 weeks later, the project was completed. Keep in mind, other companies quote 1-2 months before they can start; 1-2 months to complete the project because it is summer and they are busy. Dennis provided a realistic time frame and got it done on time! Side note... If you have any rock work that needs to be completed, ask Dennis to send his "rock guy" Gustavo. We recently purchased a home with an in-ground pool and spa. Both the heater and pump were ancient. Heater would smoke when in use and pump sounded like a lawnmower. We needed both replaced, so we requested quotes from several companies via Yelp. Platinum Pool was one of the few vendors that responded extremely fast and also set up a time within a matter of days to come out and inspect in order to provide an accurate quote. They're competitively priced and care more about customer satisfaction than getting top dollar. Dennis came out for the quote and Russell installed a Pentair heater and variable speed pump. Both guys were super nice and extremely knowledgeable and weren't bothered by all my questions, since I know nothing about pools (first timer here). Communication was timely throughout the whole process on their part - both phone and email. Russell removed the old equipment, installed the new energy-efficient equipment (including above-ground pipes and valves), painted it all to match, showed me how to use the new heater and pump, and even showed me how to clean the filter at no additional fee. This was all completed in one day, too! Lastly, be sure to get a final invoice after installation with equipment details (model number and serial number) in order to apply for rebates. This is a long over due review. Our pool and backyard remodel was done in early March and we are so happy with the results. I contacted Platinum Pool Company for a bid to redo our pool, after Alan Smith Pool Plastering abandoned our project. I've had to take Alan Smith to court and file a complaint with the CSLB. We have a pebble finish that is abrasive and causes constant injuries, and Alan Smith PP didn't install the Sheer Descent waterfall per the Manufacturers Technical Sheet, so the waterfall doesn't look anything like a waterfall any longer. The waterfall manufacturer said it's likely debris has plugged up the waterfall, which means all our new stone will also have to be torn off to replace the waterfall. Dennis contacted me right away and came out and gave me a bid to remove and replace everything that Alan Smith did 1 1/2 years ago. I was very impressed with his responsiveness. If we are able to collect from the courts, the bonding company, and CSLB, we will be contacting Dennis to return our pool to the backyard beauty it was before Alan Smith worked on it. read more

These guys are amazing. My wife and I really didn't want to remodel our backyard because of all the headaches we knew we'd incur with contractors. People being late, leaving a mess, getting over charged, people disappearing for days or weeks with no end in sight. I heard all the horror stories from coworkers and was extremely leery of doing this. My wife and I took our time researching who to hire. True to form, the first company I reached out to never called me back. You'd think for a huge job and lots of money to earn you'd get more interest, but no. The second company I called said to talk to them in a few weeks but never followed up. The third came out and gave a reasonable quote, but then I heard about and read about their work quality and folks not showing up so I didn't go with them. Turns out the answer was in right next to us the whole time, literally. Platinum Pools had done my next door neighbor's pool and it was outstanding. My neighbor got me Dennis' number and I called right away. And Dennis called me right back. I've never dealt with a more professional company for handling such a big job. I'm extremely picky, but Dennis and his dad Denny always made time to answer my calls and texts and never complained about my constant questions. Their crews all worked for them, so there was never any issues about accountability. The guys were always on time, showed up every day and kept things clean. I began taking to Dennis about the job in late August and asked him if we could get the job done by Thanksgiving. This included demolishing the existing concrete all over my backyard and essentially redoing the entire pool. New pebble, tile, and coping. Then putting in new pavers. He said they could do it. Not only did they, but they got it done three weeks ahead of schedule! One of my other neighbors waited over 6 months for some other company to get his pool and yard redone but ours took a fraction of that --all because they worked every day and worked efficiently and knew what they were doing. One of my other neighbors still tells me he can't believe how fast my job got done. Dennis and his team were thorough and explained the process every step of the way. They met with us to go over materials and introduced us to their guys. Shane at NPT was fantastic. Jose, the head of the paving crew, was amazing. When there was some extra cement that had to be cut after the job was done, he had his guys come back a few days later to fix it. Lastly, they have a genius stone worker named Julio who works for them and that guy is a true artist. We chose a marble stackstone that was brand new on the market and Julio made it look perfect. He worked late nearly every day and almost every Saturday until the job was done. I truly can't thank these guys enough. Our pool and yard came out spectacular. These people re-plastered/tiled my pool with Pebble Tech almost 2 years ago but I am just now getting on Yelp to sign up and write reviews. Might of saved someone else expense and problems. Not happy with the job as the final acid wash left long streaks running down to the drain. The owners never followed up on the workers or the final job, making no attempt to contact or inspect the work. The pool was filled with water by the time I inspected it and by then I had already spent $300 on water, so I had hoped the streaking might not show after a short time. It has become more pronounced in the meantime. The workers also dumped a bunch of colored plaster on my (nice) lawn killing a huge spot that had to be dug out. They started measuring and ordered the coping. The demo was quick and effortless. The new coping was installed but it was not the same size. The new coping pieces were 21 inches in length. My old coping was 36 inches in length so now I have more grout joints than before. I asked Dennis why he didn't order the same lengths and he told me that they no longer make those lengths. After investigating and calling up numerous places, I found out that the 36 inch lengths can be ordered. It just requires a special mold to be made which costs an extra $500 to $1,000. This frustrated me cause I wish he was upfront with me; either he messed up with the ordering or he genuinely didn't know. Regardless, the smaller coping was already installed so I wasn't going to have them tear it out. The installer they hired, Julio, was careless. He banged up my iron gate carrying the heavy coping pieces. He even chipped my stone mailbox, which my gardener witnessed. Of course Julio denied all of this. I didn't make a fuss cause I just wanted him to continue with the installation. The coping came out looking good but I noticed the grout joints immediately cracked! I told Denny (the father) and he had Julio redo them. The rest of the job was finished quickly and without delays. The pebble tech installer was the best! His crew did a beautiful job. At the end I noticed that some of the grout joints cracked again. Denny said he would send Julio out again to redo them, but I asked if we could wait till cooler weather. It is now 6 months later and the grout looks worse than ever! The expansion joint has also cracked and looks sunken in places. I contacted both Denny and Dennis and left them messages, but no response from either of them. I hired a handyman to chip out the cracked grout, and he said that Julio did not put anything behind the thin grout for support. There were deep crevices underneath so my handyman said the grout Julio mixed was probably too dry so he couldn't push it in deep enough. My handyman did it the right way by making the grout a little thinner so he was able to pack it in deeper. Overall, I liked Denny the father. He was easy to communicate with, and he always addressed my concerns throughout the project. February 7, 2018 Denny just phoned this morning to apologize for not getting back to me. He was in the hospital with pneumonia. He said he would speak to Russell and arrange a time to come and address the cracked expansion joints. February 13, 2018 Thank you Russell and Dennis for coming out earlier today! Russell and Dennis removed the sections of cracked deck-o-seal (expansion joints) and redid them. Dennis came out to my house in Huntington Beach a couple months ago. He educated me on why he prefers pebble over plaster and we talked about many other things related to my pool. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I am new to the pool world as I recently bought this home. The last person that owned it painted the pool and he was so helpful by explaining to me and the last owner on why pools should not be painted. Dennis and his father Denny are as good as it gets when it comes to pool remodels. Dennis was extremely professional, so easy to talk to, and gave so much advice on what to go with for our pebble, tile, and stone work. Denny called every night to let me know what was going to be worked on the next day and at what time. There was no time wasted sitting around waiting for work to be done. Even with some weather issues (rain and strong winds), they completed the job on time. The guys were always on time, cleaned up after themselves and any questions I had were always addressed. Had Platinum Pool Company upgrade our pool equipment with a new variable speed pump and new pool heater as the old equipment was at least 30 years old. We also wanted them to rearrange the equipment into a better layout. Russell came out and in the space of a day had all the old equipment cut out and cleaned up. The next day he installed the new equipment and connected the hardware to the C/B panel. The connections were very neat and well laid out. Our gas line to the heater was not the best so he not only replaced it but also rerouted it to make it more compact and less obtrusive. He noted the pool light was not GFCI protected so he fixed that. And then, he helped me remove the rotted diving board. Overall a great, professional looking job, that was done quickly and with minimal disruption to our lives. And the price was very reasonable.
