This post isn't about them not buying a lot of my clothes. That I completely understood when I looked at what the employees were wearing as opposed to what I was selling. They were in very faded t-shirts and dirty pants and I was selling new Abercrombie with tags, Chicos's, Madewell, etc. What threw me off was that they lacked any type of customer service. I felt like I was talking to a brick wall. I am a millennial, but I think I'm starting to understand when Boomers say that the kids these day have no customer service skills. Now, I am not saying to kiss ass, because I worked in customer service for years and that never flew with me either, but the fact that you 1. sound like a robot with the same line you give everyone when telling them what you want to keep or didn't and 2. having two people be on their phones at the dressing room when I am staring at you waiting for a room. I will say, the one buying the clothes yesterday (4/16/23) was very sweet. Don't waste your time going. I was going to donate all of this anyways and should have done that. read more

Selling: One Star, They had me wait around 2 hours for my nieces clothes, they were all in really good condition and stylish teenager/young adult clothes. I have a very love/hate relationship with this place. I think they are pretty fair with what they price their merchandise because it's a really good deal for what it retails for. And they have really nice workers! But with the buying aspect, I think they could do better. Hence the 3 star. I understand that they can't take everything and have to have a criteria so they don't just take crap. But as I looked around the store in the meantime, every section is super cramped with items that I feel I see every time I go in (which is like once a month). I feel they they're being super picky on purpose bc they have too much stuff. Also, they'll always take longer that they said they would, which doesn't necessarily bother me, but I feel like they should find a way to efficiently price items with the time they said. Made it the grand opening and did not expect such a huge crowd! I think management and employees did a good job of keeping the place neat and managing customers amidst the chaos. This in an ideal location for a selective, well-run resale shop and the owners certainly did their homework as the grand opening seemed to be a success. Last year, a lightbulb went off and I thought a resale shop would be a great addition to Parkway Plaza, targeted to a youthful demographic interested in quality products at a reasonable price. Plato's Closet was thinking the same thing--and across the street is even smarter with lower rent and larger space. *********** The goods: ************ Trendy used clothes, accessories, bags and shoes that are popular amongst teen to twentysomethings. Examples: oversize cardigans, flannel, fringe, lace, kimonos, high-waisted jeans, booties...all of my wardrobe staples! Men's and women's, but men's section is much smaller. ************* The quality: ************* Generally high quality items, although I noticed quite a few purses and shoes with obvious wear & tear; also a purse was labeled as "Guess" on the price tag but it was clearly a knockoff. ************************* The selling experience: ************************* Was told it would be a 40-45 minute wait, but that became a 1 hour+ wait amidst the high volume of sellers. Sold a good amount of items (10+), a few new Forever21 with tags, for about $35. Try to go during non-peak times to avoid the wait. I LOVED this place. Not anymore. They're clothes are faded and way overpriced. It's a second hand store people !??!! Why is a faded spaghetti strap $12 ? & it wasn't name brand either. I could go to Charlotte Russe and buy a brand new shirt for the same price or less. Same thing with a headband I picked up. $4. ? That's the same price at Claire's. The prices are way high. Even seen these knee high strappy sandals. $40.00 !!!! WOW ! Not to mention when you sell they literally give you scraps for clothes and are very picky. For 4 shirts and 1 pair of shorts (all name brand) they wanted to give me $4. I understand they have to resell them to make a profit but they're selling shirts out there for no less than $6 c'mon ! The store is okay, my experience with the cashier April was not okay though. I patiently waited while she talked to customer about selling clothes, she turned around completely ignored me standing in front of counter and cashed out another customer that just walked up. When my turn came up, I politely asked her were the line starts due to there being 4 registers and no one but her there. I also explained I had been waiting before the customer she helped her reply" oh, well it starts there"(while pointing at sign near men's section) no apology or anything. I was pleasantly surprised to find one here. Great clothes, great bargains. 1* however for the customer service. If your not a " twenty-something" be prepared to be over looked, and by passed for any type of service. As I stood in line for 15 mins. Waiting to pay... 2 other ladies were serviced before me. When I moved up closer to the register, because they perhaps didn't see me... I was told to go to the end of the line for service!!! I was so furious I left! 1. I was waiting 15+ mins in the assigned area to pay.. 2. 2 customers were serviced before me.. 3. The slue of people was non existent when I first stood in line. 4. My friend was right. Good quality clothing for great prices. Today was my first time in this store and i absolutely loved it. Everyone was very friendly and the store is very well organized unlike other thrift stores. Today's deal was awesome! Clearance items were a dollar each. How much better can it get? I bought some brand new cow girl boots for 13$! And walked out of the store saving 153$ thanks to the sale! My experience here is always nice and can find atleast one thing. I've been coming here for years. This time around Mary did an amazing job at helping me find the perfect outfit for a pool party. Dont waste your time, i took 3 bags of new clothes, shoes, new rainbow sandals, MK bags, and they didn't want to take anything ... their stuff in their shelfs are old and very faded and used, my stuff was very very good and brands Im Mexican and I felt I felt discriminated. Oh my gosh I love this store! I was looking to sell some clothes so I was googling stores around here and came across this location. I went in and the first girl who greeted me was SUPER friendly and walked me through their buying process. She let me know there were sellers ahead of me so it might take some time which was fine with me. I was able to browse the store and came across multiple items that I wanted to try on. An employee came by and very kindly asked me if I wanted her to start a fitting room for me. After I told her my name she let me know her name was Daniela. When I was ready to try everything on she was really friendly and helpful my entire time there. She was greattt! When my clothes had been looked through they called me up and let me know what they wanted to buy, why they wanted to buy these items, styles they were looking for, and they even let me know they would buy another item if I could get a little stain out. This place has a really great selection of fashionable clothes and at great prices. The employees are also really friendly which makes every customer comfortable to come here. This review is directed only to their "grab bag" sale only. When I arrived at the store, about 20 minutes before opening, the line went around the corner and down the block. I had expected a line, so that was all fine. This was my first 90% sale and had heard that now you could use your own bag, any size and were not limited to a bag they gave out. Despite all the people it was not too bad moving around the store and getting a fitting room. BUT, here comes the bad part of my review. Once you were ready to check out, there was absolutely no order. I stood in line with many other people for a VERY long time waiting. The line moved absolutely no where. There were grandmas in line with trash bags full of clothes taking a life time to check out. If you pay $300 after max 90% off, imagine how many clothes that is! Groups of friends had one person in line, then the rest just cut the line in front of us. All of a sudden a clerk is telling all of us that the line is going the wrong direction! She points and tells us to move. She does not instruct the line to stay in the same order, or have anyone assist. What happens is that all of a sudden a ton of people is in line before those of us that have waited a long time already. After being in line for over one hour and with no progress closer to the register I gave up. I only had 7 items. They should have had a quick check out for those with less than 10 items. Honestly the employees here have the WORST attitude ever! No one ever acknowledges you when you walk in YOU have to be the one to say to the girls. Today I walked in and all 3 employees just looked me up and down didn't even say hello but instead "have you sold to us before" was the only thing they said to me I've been selling here for years but I'm done they make you feel so unwanted!!!!! The place is large, fresh and clean. They have an awesome selection of boots and shoes. They were a bit busy when I came to drop of clothes. About 11 people in front of me but my wait was only an hr. You can leave your stuff and come back to the store at anytime as long as it is before closing. Over all great place. read more

1st time here and I must say it's a great boutique if you are on a budget, they have all the latest styles, shoes, accessories for teens and young adult. Prices are crazy reasonable. OK. I didn't find anything great. Despite being set up like a regular retail store and nicely organized, it is not incredibly curated-- for instance they were selling a faux leather bag with the faux leather peeling like an old bonded leather couch. They seemed to have a lot of Doc Martens for $50 if you are searching for those. They had a Michael Kors small tote for $70 which seemed a bit high for the condition and the production year. I think I'll stick with the regular thrift stores. read more

I don't really ever find decent clothing here. Most of it seems worn & not worth buying. I tried to sell clothes here, all brand name, good condition, and not a SINGLE item was taken because it wasnt "on the shelves within the past 12-18 months". Half the clothing in the store seemed faded and several items had rips or holes.. so not sure why they wouldn't want to take decent clothes. I went here, brought a suitcase full of stuff from my clothing store I'm closing, stuff still had tags on them, named brand and A LOT of different items that's in right now. I don't even think they looked in my suitcase because the first thing you'll see is 5 pair of True Religion Jeans, Burberry belts and shirts that was barely worn that got turned away. I'm not sure if it's a change in staff or what but in the past I've always got at least 30 dollars minimum when selling. I took 3 pairs of boots 2 of the 3 were brand new in boxes never worn and the other pair I only wore once. The brand new boots alone were worth over 40 dollars each. The cashier offered me 15 dollars for 3 pairs of boots. I couldn't believe it and passed of course. I can easily sell them for more myself but thought they would give me a fair amount. I have sold and bought clothes here a few times. You don't really get much from selling (you get 1/4 of retail price, I believe), and they're very picky about what they'll buy, which, I understand. They gotta have standards. They have a better selection than Goodwill, they're definitely up to date in style, and the employees are friendly. I've gotten a dress and pair of shoes from here for a reasonable price. Shopping here is like a treasure hunt. If you're lucky, you'll find something awesome like a pair of Doc Martens for $50! Despite the fact that their Men's section is a fraction of the store, I thoroughly enjoy coming here. I won't comment on any of the Women's stuff because...well...I haven't made any purchases from those areas. Everything here is so organized! Obviously as things get busy, customers get lazy and clothes can get out of order BUT these workers do their best to keep things neat and I appreciate it. When you go to the fitting room, they seriously cater to you. If you have more than the maximum number of items allowed inside the fitting room they hang them outside and will stop by and ask if you want to swap anything out (that way you don't have to leave the fitting room). They're so nice. Too nice. Nordstrom/Chick-fil-A nice. I don't mind, haha. So men's clothes: they got it all. Okay...they don't have socks or underwear (probably for obvious reasons), but their pants/jeans selection is plentiful. Side note: the way they hang their jeans is dope. Genius...no wait...JEANius. Every item I've bought from here has been dope - clean, no rips/tears, and already broken in! I find myself coming back here every now and then. IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW, they will buy/take your clothes for you. I say "take" because I think they'll accept donations (although I haven't seen anyone do that, they mostly come in and "sell" their clothes). read more

Love this store. The prices are amazing. Every Other store that I have gone to for second hand clothing charges twice as much. They have a wide variety including gym clothes and Mens. I sold some items of my own and the best part is you can either get that amount in cash or store credit where as other competitors give you a lesser percentage in cash. Just moved to CA and I was surprised and excited to see a Plato's Closet here. Once we arrived we were greeted by the staff and security. Destiny was the first to say hi and she worked with us thru out our whole shopping experience. She wend above and beyond in helping us find the perfect cocktail dress, jewelry and shoes to match! The other staff we interacted with were so nice they would stop what they were doing to help get down shoes and give advice on outfits. This was our first time at this location and we loved it! I am a huge fan of Brandy Melville,Nike,Forever 21,etc. There is a lot of variety and great customer service. My only dislike was that the clothes were very close together-it was difficult to actually look at the clothing without pulling it completely off the rack. I had two storage tubs of brand new clothes that I didnt wear and were too big on me and went here to see if they would buy them it took forever even though it wasn't busy at all 3 hours to be exact then the girl who was helping me gave such a bitchy attitude and said only a few were okay .... they were brand new and in trend . After reading the reviews (of how poorly run the store is) I was hopeful they were wrong and decided to venture out and sell some clothes. Upon arriving I was greeted and told the process was about 15 to 20 mins, since there was one person ahead of me. I had read several reviews warning of how off these estimates were. So, I decided to go around the neighboring stores for an hour. I came back only to be told they needed another 30 mins because there was one person in front of me! Are you kidding me? Ugh. The whole process really isn't worth it. If you're lucky you'll get enough money to buy a candy bar... 2 hours of your time!? Is it worth it? Well, the last time I checked minimum wage was more than 50 cents an hour. You're better off giving your stuff to Goodwill or just throwing it away, 1 star!!! read more

I always come here to sell when cleaning out my closet. sometimes I get more lucky than others, but I always walk out with at least some cash. I've never had a bad experience per say, though the only downsides I can think of are the long wait when selling (I usually leave and come back), the location, and now the rising prices. when this place started out the prices were decent. the other day I went in and a pair of worn shoes were $35. I went there with a box full of fashionable items and they only accepted 3 things which I got paid $11 for ... and they actually accepted the more scruffier items than the ones I expected them to take . Spent $55 yesterday at Platos Closet El Cajon and got 5 great items! 2 were NWT's, 1 of the NWT items were teal Lauren Conrad pants, they're work appropriate legging type pants that look and feel amazing, they fit like a dream. I came here with the sole purpose of selling, so that's mainly what I'm basing my review on. Getting straight to it, I would not waste my time bringing clothes here to sell. It's not worth your time or gas. As for everything else: Clerk was very friendly. Store is clean and well organized. Definitely a spot for teenagers who are too lazy to go to goodwill and find the exact items cheaper. I made myself browse for 5 minutes but clothes were boring IMO and not worth rummaging through.
