Leaving a 1 star review for service. Had 3 things I wanted to buy and was standing at the front waiting to be acknowledged, there were 2 employees up there (I think one was buying merchandise) and the other was I think helping her? Not sure. As i waited (and was the only one waiting in line to check out) Nobody said anything to me, so I left. I want to like this place but this is probably my 3rd time here and every time the employees have been unhelpful other than saying hello when you walk in. read more

I really enjoy shopping and selling at Plato's Closet. I think the selection is good and the pricing is right. My daughters and I get stuff there all the time and sell there regularly. Yes, there have been times when they didn't take anything I brought in or offered a small amount but other times I have gotten $20-$30. Coming from someone who used to sell at Buffalo Exchange years ago, Plato's pays pretty well in comparison and is more likely to buy at least some items. I typically don't do the walk of fashion shame when I leave Plato's after selling like I used to when leaving Buffalo. After reading some of the other bad reviews I am realizing that some people don't seem to understand how businesses run. They expect top dollar for items that are going to need to be marked up to sell at a resale shop. That doesn't leave much wiggle room for the store to profit. Also, Plato's can't always buy items, even if they are perfect for their store and in good condition, if they already have too many similar styles, or it's off season. Having too much inventory isn't a good business move. If selling, my suggestion is to have realistic expectations and check out their website or IG regularly to see what items they are looking for. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that the wait to pay for items can be a bit long if the store is busy. There is often only one person working the register. Otherwise, it's a great place to shop and sell. read more

I agree with the other reviews that say the buyers are not good at all. They rejected all of my clothes, I had about 2-3 bags including a nice winter coat, Nike pro leggings, jeans from various brands, never worn crop tops & dresses, etc. Just like the other reviews say, they said my clothes were "too faded" and said the clothes were out of the "time frame" of the trends. Mind you as I'm standing in line a lot of the clothes look dingy, shoes have dirty stains on them, etc. All I could do was smile as I walked out because it was honestly funny to me read more

I came from north county to sell my clothes here today. I'm not upset that they wouldn't take my buy because the employees looks busy and flustered. But I am upset they accepted an older white ladies buy that was larger than mine as I was sitting in my car to leave. I hope the color of my skin didn't affect my buy. Let me start by saying that the staff there are very nice. My complaint isn't with them, it's the way the decision making goes. I saw some clothing items that looked a little more on the dingy side. I saw some clothing items I don't think a female would wear unless she was going to a club and the look she was going for was skimpy. I saw earrings that looked old and the design wasn't very flattering. Yet I had some nice, clean, decent items and none of it sold. Barely worn sweaters that go with leggings, a few nice dresses from Macy's, and none of it sold. It wasn't out of style and are items I still see women wear. The worst experience I've ever had at a Plato's Closet. Completely understandable that it's a 2 hour wait due to high volume and it being a Sunday. What was disrespectful is that there were 6 girls behind the counter talking poorly about customers clothing as well as there other fellow coworkers. Due to the high volume of people you would think these girls would at least attempt to be more efficient. The only two girls that were pleasant, acknowledged customers as they walked in as well as actually sorted though clothes were the two blonde girls at the front. I tried to get the names of the others however, they were not wearing name tags #convenient. I've never written a bad review before but I believe this deserves one as not only waiting 2 1/2 hours but waiting in line listening to this negative talk was a waste of time. read more

I went in and got the clothes checked took them an hour and half but I said that's fine that's what they have to do. I go back and the lady goes we could not find anything the style is outdated, and the girl noted that the clothes are old style and we won't be taking anything out the 2 bags full of clothes From various brands. Mind you I'm not an old lady. I ended up donating them to people in need because obviously my style doesn't fit that store. Also the policy doesn't really indicate the age or the style. Never going back it was pretty bad experience maybe hire people that are a little bit more polite and know how to speak to customers without offending anyone. We had the best time shopping at Plato's Closet. We had to purchase quite a bit as we had not been clothes shopping in quite sometime so both my daughters needed a number of clothing items. We had found some on our own but once we started working with Maggie she found so much more. She assisted each of my daughters and I could tell she took the time to find out each of their styles and really worked with each of them. She definitely enjoys her job and helping people. For selling they take longer then they say it will be. I called after an hour because they said it would take that long and then said it would be another hour. When I asked if there was anyway to make it faster the girl hung up on me. I wouldn't wast your time like I did. For shopping the clothes are over priced. Again, not worth your time. read more

Even with COVID this Plato's closet is still the best! Everyone wears masks and the employees are always seen organizing and sanitizing, or helping if you need it. Cons: Came in with into the store with some new and clean shoes and clothes to sell. I was shopping around waiting for my stuff to be ready, so with in 15 mins my stuff was ready. They took 6 items and pay me out for 14 bucks like really cheap stake. On top of that I looked into one of my bags and the brand new pair of vans, they didn't even take that. But they have all these other dirty nasty beat up sneakers in there. And as I was looking around I noticed a skirt from Charlotte Russ with the tag still said 5 bucks and Plato closet tag was 15 like, wow what another great way to rip people off. After coming here for some time now to sell my unused clothes or unwanted clothes, they have poor selection. And they're cheap for paying people out and ripping people off by buying it cheap and then reselling it for more. Pro: Customer service is good and they do try their beat to get you in and out. read more

My only issue is, I've never been helped. I've been to this location maybe 4-5 times since moving to San Diego. I've never been able to purchase anything due to the size catering of the staff. Not only are all the workers probably size 8's or less but the "staff picks" are always xs,s, m or MAYBE 1 or 2 larges. I'm a size 14/16. I never see cute stuff for my size, and if it's my size it's clothes that are clearly not very "trendy". I recently had a baby too and I have my husband command party next week, I went last Friday and found sooo many cute items. But unfortunately all we're sizes xs-m. I was walking around maybe 45 minutes and not once did anyone ask if I needed help or anything. Definitely felt to big to shop at this location. And which sucks I love Plato's. read more

I brought in literally 300 pounds of clothes and shoes and purses to sell. They told me the Versace purse was too high end and that they couldn't afford it. And they only paid me $20 for a coach handbag and some shoes. I was simply purging to make extra closet space, so I didn't mind that so much. The prices on clothes was very reasonable when purchasing, and they have a large inventory. So like everything, it's perspective. I enjoyed myself and will be back! read more

I am an avid Plato's Closet shopper and this Plato's is by far my favorite in the San Diego region! Their buyers take a wide variety of clothing that includes not only some of the top, modern brands of today but additionally incredible 90's and vintage pieces. Each time I go to this Plato's, I'm confident I'll be walking out with a number of gems in my bag. Plus, their staff is always incredibly welcoming and friendly. I went in a couple of weeks ago looking for a pair of heels to go with a wedding guest dress. A manager (Sierra I think it was ?) helped me find the perfect pair that looked so cute with the dress I had chosen! She was so nice and patient when looking through different heels with me. This place is a mess. I'm from Seattle and all the Plato's up there are neat and super organized. This one is very overwhelming. It looks like a forever 21 at the end of a busy Saturday. But I came on a Thursday morning. Almost nothing was in the right spot. I'm an XL-2xl and all I found were small and mediums in my section of clothing. Even months after, they still havent done anything about it. I called them because the emails weren't very helpful so that time the floor lead or manager answered and was telling that she was sorry and all that but I dont know if she was fired because that behavior is unacceptable!! I added another picture of someone else's review but i took a screenshot of the owners response because its a very lengthy response.. why? because they include every detail about the interaction and what not but i still find it interesting how they failed to do anything about the employee that was racist.. This place is really good for finding cheap, in style clothing. I was able to find 2 pairs of shorts, a top and a shirt for $38, which is really good in my opinion. You can also sell clothes here but be mindful that they will most likely not pay you much for your clothes even if it's in good condition...I got paid $40 for 14 pieces of clothing....their policy with purchasing clothes is that it must be within the last two years of style trends which also helps the store keep up with selling cheap trendy clothing which I appreciate. read more

Don't even waste your gas. Brought in 3 full trash bags full of clothes, several of which were either never worn or even still had the tags on. They bought two pairs of shoes including Steve Madden and gave me $6 saying that they didn't buy many more items because of signs of wear meanwhile they have dirty vans all over their racks...lol... Over all a huge waste of time and gas, not worth it. I honestly thought they'd buy most of my stuff because the clothing I saw around the store didn't seem very nice/ quality. Usually places like this that sell very young clothing tend to not have the best customer service. To my surprise, this place was the opposite. The girls were very young and beautiful yet they provided me with the up most kindness. I came to buy some clothes and brought my one year old along. If anyone else is a mother, you know how challenging it is to bring a toddler along with you to shop, especially when trying on clothing . She kept throwing tantrums and taking off. Yet the employees never got annoyed with us. When going in and out of the fitting room the employees were always attentive and courteous. Even when checking out. The clothes and accessories are all very cute and affordable. The only problem with their clothing is that it's meant for very tiny people. Everything is second hand but when it comes to sizes large and up, it's very limited. Overall I would definitely shop here again. read more

They didn't take majority of my stuff so so can see how people might get frustrated but I still walked out with $80 so that's more than I came with. I went in here a few weeks ago, and let me tell you about the really horrible experience that I had. So first of all, the store asks for what type of clothes and items they are looking for, one of the items being denim. So I brought in a BUNCH of denim items such as jeans and jean jackets. They told me to come back in three hours so they can check out all the clothing, they were super slow in there. Only 20 mins pass and I get a message to come back in. They told me they can't buy any of the clothes that I brought because they don't buy hollister jeans? which was weird because everything was pretty brand new, kind you the guy working was being really rude about it and had a attitude. Then I continued to shop around the store and while looking around, I see that they sell hollister jeans, and it wasn't like they had too many of them, they only had about 10. When I went to go to the dressing room, i noticed there was a sign about stealing and how they are watching on cameras. I thought well that's a weird sign especially since I am in a dressing room, I was about half way undressed when I noticed there's a camera outside of the dressing room that pretty much gets a whole view of me and possibly other people in the dressing room. I never want to go back here because i feel exploited having a camera being able to see me and others changing. read more

Trendy teen clothes. Prices are decent but some of the work out wear and accessories are overpriced. This is not a thrift or vintage store where you will find unique pieces. It is what it is. I've sold at Plato's before and understand they take what's trendy or in the malls right now so they won't take a lot of things even if they are brand name or good quality. I've never had a problem before until now. I took in a Michael Kors bag that was in almost perfect condition. The button inside had gone brassy and there was a pen smudge at the bottom. When I got it back after my clothes had been sorted there was a very straight and uniform rip along the inside of the bag!!! That's fine if you don't buy it but did you have to destroy it?!?! Needless to say, I will never go to Plato's again and will use ThredUP or Buffalo. read more

Oh gosh, I am SUCH a fan of this place. My boyfriend can vouch for me. Ever since they've opened, I've come in at least every two weeks (yannoe, when that paycheck comes in). Seriously, everything is so organized and stylish! Every time I've been here, I have NEVER walked out empty handed. For most tops, bottoms, and accessories prices vary from $3-$8. Swim and bikinis range from $4-5 for just a top/bottom and average about $12 for a set. Bags, shoes, and maxi dresses range from $10-15+, and anything I've seen on the floor I've never seen a price tag of $20 or more unless it's locked in the glass cabinet. The frequent buyer's card gets you hooked to spend more and it's so hard not to, everything is such a sweet deal! And how awesome is it that you can bring in your old clothes that you no longer want to get credit for some new ones. Sorry not sorry for the people who are sleepin on the deals- more cute 'fits for me! LOL read more
