Do not take your clothes here. I brought two boxes of clothes and shoes to the store to see if I could sell some of them. I've taken clothes here before and they usually take at least a few things, so I was at least expecting something to be bought. One of my boxes was quite large so I was expecting it to take a little while for them to go through my things. I received a text in less than ten minutes saying my items were ready to be picked up. When I arrived back at the store, they told me they did not want to take one single item. I would like to note that at this time it's end of September and fall is coming up. Most of my clothing items were dark colors and would be considered fall fashion. There were several items from H&M with the tags still on them, a brand new sweater from Zara, Steve Madden booties that have only been worn once, and much more. There's no way they went through all my items. Even if they didn't, don't lie to me and tell me that they are out of style and in poor condition because they definitely were not. I also would like to talk about the sales associates. I would like to note that I worked in retail for several years, I know how frustrating and tedious it can be and I try to be as friendly and low maintenance as possible. One of the reasons I had so much stuff is because any other time I've been there before the sales associates have been so unwelcoming. I've been treated like a nuisance every time I have been there. I'm sorry, is this not a place where I can sell my clothes? If I've come to the wrong establishment, please let me know. When the sales associate told me I could get my things, they were way behind the counter and she just stared at me. When I tried to pick up the boxes, another sales associate asked me if I wanted help and I gladly accepted and thanked her. She responded, "I'm only helping you because I'm trying to kill time before I can go on break." Why would you think that's something good to say? I will NOT be coming back here. Rude employees! It's not the customers fault their working minimum wage jobs smh so my boyfriend went in there, he's never been there before to sell clothes & didn't know the process. He wasn't greeted & when he asked what he needed to do one of the employees snapped at him in a rude manner & told him to fill out the clip board. The number of items usually means the number of things you have so he put 15 which was 15 jeans in 1 bin. Her response was "you clearly don't have 15 items you only have 1" ummm I guess they changed the meaning of "number of items"??? 15 pairs of jeans is 15 items but hey I guess that's what's holding them back from getting a "grown up job" comprehension & common sense is key! read more

I popped into this Platos closet while waiting for my mom while she was at the dentist around the corner. I found a couple LuluLemon pieces I liked. The associate Jack was so nice to help me with all my questions. I asked if there were any other Lululemon items and she said yes, just wait a minute. She returned with over 20 pieces that they had just gotten in. I was so excited, I left with an large bag full of Lululemon! She was also very kind to offer me a discount on one piece that had a stain. I will be returning again thanks to Jack's great customer service!! read more

Service was good but they won't buy hardly anything. I brought in clothes that were less than a year old and they said they were too old. Ugh!!! My daughter loves this place. Honestly if I could rate the Fort Worth location zero stars, I would. I am a huge fan of Plato's closet, but this particular location has failed me every single time. I always find great deals and have a ton of clothes I would love to try on, but once I am ready to try on my selected items, I am told every single time that "the dressing room is closed" I ask if there was announcement stating the dressing room is closed, and they always state, "Yes x amount of minutes ago" and they roll their eyes and make a scene to their coworkers.. I am in the store for at least an hour and there has never been an announcement stating that the dressing rooms close. If the dressing rooms are going to close 15-30 minutes prior to the actual store closing, please announce this kindly multiple times so customers are aware and also post signs for those who are hearing impaired. Also, please do not make me feel discriminated against or that I am a bother asking this question when there are at least 3 other ppl trying on clothes. I understand you want to go home as fast as possible, but customer service is ALWAYS first. Whoever owns this location would be extremely upset about the amount of money they are losing and the clientele they are turning away solely bc of the unprofessional customer service given. read more

While doing some spring cleaning, I thought I would venture out and try and sell some of my most beloved clothing items to a place like Platos Closet. The memories some of these items hold is truly priceless to me, but alas, as I embark onto a new stage in life I sadly agreed to say goodbye to these items. Hesitantly and with great caution and thought of what I selected, I washed, folded, and packed up a Sterilite Tub FULL of gently used clothes. Many brands were some of the brands Plato's closet "loves", (including Hollister, A&F, Forever 21, Adidas, Pink by VS, Charlotte Russe) and several other items that are large name brands such as Bisou Bisou, Miss Me, Silver Jeans, and much more. While I did not expect to get an overwhelming offer for my items, I was extremely disappointed when I received a text about 5 minutes after dropping off my items and spoke with the sales clerk. The clerk, whom was not the original employee I spoke with, informed me out of my 18 gallon tub of clothes, the only item they would purchase would be a Victoria's Secret bodysuit which had the tags on it for $3.50. Since I browsed the store in the few minutes it took for them to rifle through my freshly cleaned and folded clothes, (some of which looked like they hadn't been moved from the original place in the container) I know that many of my items were in much better condition than some of the items being sold at the store presently. Disappointed with the offer, I declined the insulting $3.50, and took all of my items back with me. The bottom line: Platos closet has gone extremely downhill since the last time I've visited, which may have been years ago when I was still in my early 20's. I needed to get rid of these items and I honestly would have taken probably less than $50 for a tub of clothes I've paid nearly $1000 for. I suppose that's why there are new websites and Apps such as thread up who are professionals and not teenagers and actually know what fashion is outside of high waisted mom jeans, and absurd 90's throw back fashion that will be back where it belongs (in the 90's, or the trash) before they even know it. I supposed I'll take the time and list these items for about $10 a piece on different websites and guarantee it will be worth much more than the gas I wasted to drive to this once friendly place, Plato's Closet. OMG, what a bunch of disinterested lazy girls are working at this store!! Me and my friends brought 3 big boxes of almost new brand name clothes to sell to them. While waiting for them to look at the clothes to get an estimate price, we checked out the other things in store. One of my friends sat down across the counter and didn't feel like walking around. Since he already wanted to leave, he kept an eye on the boxes hoping they would go through them ASAP so we could leave. After not calling us for 20 - 25 minutes, we finally ask them if they were done. They said they were already done for a long time but never called us. We picked a few items that we wanted to buy so they asked us if they could ring them up first. After we paid, they said that from the 3 boxes and over 50 pieces of clothes, there was nothing they could buy! Now here's the funny thing, my friend that kept looking at the boxes noticed that they never left the floor, they never went through our clothes!!! Shame on the lazy girls there. They also don't have any manners. We tried on a couple different clothes and they opened the fitting room a couple times without saying a word. Even though they saw us waiting there, they kept on putting clothes up for a couple minutes before they helped us. Never a word, just opening the fitting room door and that's it. This store location is horrible. Walked in with my girlfriend. They greeted her 3 mins later and briefly told her to put her clothes in a bin. After they had mocked her when she said "hello". When we walked back in we stood there for about 5 mins. while the employees were walking by purposely ignoring us. Horrible experience, customer service, and bad attitudes. read more

I've never been wowed by Plato's Closet, but this past experience was the last straw. I took in around 40 pieces of "new and gently used" clothing, all brand name and many with tags attached, and only two were chosen (what exactly are you looking for??). However my disappointment stems from the fact that all of these garmets had been neatly folded, most ironed or even dry-cleaned, and when my container was returned to me it looked as if it had been through a tornado. If you don't want my items, fine by me - but have some respect for the property of others. read more

I have shopped at this store several times and have been very unhappy every time . I went because I was with my daughter every time . I love designer clothing but did not find many in this store . Most of the cloths are old and falling apart and I don't understand why ? Because while sitting up front I seen so many designer and beautiful cloths come into this store that they would not bye , I was shocked at what they actually did buy , it was junk ! My two daughters also brought cloths to sale , new and beautiful in style cloths but they did not buy any and they tried to sell quite a few .all I can say is they need a total review of the way they do buisness and hire new people . Whew, I was very overwhelmed by how many clothes they have in this store. The racks are very close together so it's hard to squeeze by others in the same aisle. Also the racks were packed tightly so it's hard to move items on the rack and get a good look at them. I do want to say that the staff was pretty friendly which I appreciate. RUDE EMPLOYEE....... I was in the tank top isle looking at the shirts, when an employee came right to the same spot I was at and started fixing the shirts and hangers I was touching. I said excuse me do you not see me here, her reply " I'm doing my job" I said go around me and work on another section and come back to where I was at after I was finished looking at the shirts. We got into a shouting match and I called the manager who didn't know what to do or say about the situation but I'm sorry about that. She told the employee to go work on another section who then got mad then threw the shirts she had in hands on the floor and said " Yall can have them" that was very unprofessional... She must have been having a bad day, cause she sure had a bad attitude. This was my first time here and I actually went twice today, once by myself and once to drag a friend. The girls behind the counter spoke both times as I entered and welcomed me. The clothes here are basically for the younger crowd, as indicated on their sign. I didn't really see much for women over a size medium. The sizes are hard to determine just by the ends of the racks because they are not clearly marked. They did have cute shoes of all styles and many purses. I found that the male section had a more diverse range of sizes. I bought my son a pair of jeans on the second trip. Their return policy is 7 days with the tags still on and the original receipt. I won't go back to look for myself but will take my son to see what he can find. read more

I only gave it 2 stars bc I occasionally will find a cute dress or pair of shoes. The staff however have poor customer service skills and the clothes, for the most part, are out of date. Kind of feels like this location is stuck in the early 2000's. The purses are tacky, the accessories are very costume-y and majority of the space is filled with jeans now. read more

I brought 4 bags of clothes and they were in the same exact way I put them in it was very obvious they did not even go through it.

Some things are way over priced. I havent brought anything in to sell, so i dont know how that works. They are organized by color and size which I like. Plenty of dressing rooms. Sometimes the quality of some things are not the greatest. But I find a diversity of styles all the time when I go. The staff I haven't interacted with much so I couldn't say. read more

Update 2/14/2015: I still like this place. I continue to find great finds here. My last purchase was a well-fitted plaid button down for $3, a gorgeous high quality cream sweater by a brand only found at Nordstrom for a mere $10, and a simple white lacy t shirt by Zara. I saw some really cute and well taken care of JCrew flats the other day but they weren't my size so hopefully someone else will take them. I don't always find something so you have to be persistent and realistic like you would at any second hand store, but you'll be happy when you find a great buy. read more

Usually I like Plato's closet, but honestly, over the last few years I have not been impressed with the location in Fort Worth. Across the board I have experienced better costumer service, a better overall attitude from the staff, and superior organization at other locations. To top it off, their competitor, Buffalo Exchange, blows Plato's out of the water. Every time I try to sell back clothes at this location, I end up leaving feeling insulting due to the petty excuses they provide as to why they couldn't accept them. The funny thing is, after perusing the racks, it is obvious that the quality of the clothes they sell varies greatly. You could find dollar store shirts with holes in them right next to beautiful Forever 21 merchandise. After being burned one too many times, I will not be returning to this location of Plato's Closet. read more

I'm completely dumbfounded at the fact that this store is still in business. I took in very nice designer clothes that were gently worn (very gently) and they only wanted 3 items. And they weren't even the nice items. It made no sense to me. Watching them, I really don't even think they went through the whole bag. I looked around a little and the items they had on the racks were very worn, faded, and were brands I'd never heard of. Love this Plato's Closet! Best one out there. The staff is so funny and outgoing. I've sold here a few times and they've bought most of my items, but not all. For those of you who complain about them not buying anything, I know that not only does the brand matter, but the condition and the style of the item! the item could be some rock revival jeans, but if they have at least 1 stain or hole, they are not allowed to purchase the item for the store. also keep in mind that Plato's Closet is a resell shop for teens and young adults. my friend has worked there for a while and I also know that they do not buy high end brands! First time at a Plato's Closet and will not be going back. I took in 2 bag fulls of items such as tops, shoes, jeans, and cardigans from brand name stores includingForever 21, Charlotte Rouse, American Eagle, etc. The man explained how everything worked and said they'd call us within 30 minutes. So I went to grab some lunch. I came back 45 minutes later to see how it was coming and was told it'd be another 30 minutes. I waited and finally an hour later it was ready. They only clothing they took was 1 ribbed tank top and 1 pair of shoes. Very dissapointed in waiting over 2 hours for that. I don't understand how this happened when the things were either brand new or worn once,and my age is in their target market? I did end up looking around the store and it was nasty, hard to find, and dirty. There was literally dust on the counter top and floor. I will be taking my clothes elsewhere from now on. read more

I LOVE Plato's closet! I don't understand how this location has such negative reviews. The employees are friendly and very helpful. I always find great stuff like Ted Baker purses and wallets with the tags still on them. I shop at Plato's closet often for workout clothes because brand new work out gear can be extremely pricey. They have a lot of Nike gear and I've even found Lululemon yoga pants and sports bras for really cheap and in like new condition. My only complaint is how tightly packed the racks can be at times it makes it had to get a look at items. read more

Employees Bluntly ignoring me (a paying customer) who was there to shop. It was 6 min before closing time there open sign was still lit up but there door was closed. I stood there and knocked and it took them at least 3 min to have them come open the door. While I was standing there they where smirking at each other and one was on there phone. But the time they opened the door it was 3 min to close and she asked are u picking something up or shopping I told her I was shopping. Then she went on to explain they were closed I than told her it's 3 min before you close and I've been here. She said well our clock show it's 9 so we closed and that was it. She went in about her business and still left the open sign on. Mmmmm I was only visiting from out of town but will guarantee I will not be returning when I do come back and visit. Very disappointed! I have been a shopper at Plato's Closet for years and I don't understand their "business tactic" of driving away customers by acting rude and stuck-up toward us when we try selling our gently used, name-brand clothing...The "buyer" was so snotty toward me, I will never return to another Plato's Closet again. Even though I wasn't given any explanation as to why she didn't want the clothes I was trying to sell, I was okay with that because there were plenty of high-grade items in there that I can sell at Buffalo Exchange or online for much more money than I'm sure they would have given me anyways. What I did have a problem with was that, while I was very courteous about the fact that I was standing there waiting to be noticed for about 10 minutes, the girl finally came over and displayed a visible sneer and condescending tone toward me for absolutely no reason. I know that most of Plato's Closet buyers are like this though and it is so unnecessary and a really unintelligent way to conduct a business. I'll be sure to encourage my friends, family, and everyone in my social network to never shop at this particular store chain. read more

Okay. As a former employee of Platos I need everyone to remember some things before they post or go to a store location: 1. Each store is owned by a different person. Do not judge one store from another. They are ran differently. 2. What you need to understand is that their target customer is from 15-21 years old. Do not go in there expecting to receive a lot of money for a fancy clothing item because that age group cannot afford something that expensive. 3. In addition, they do take brands like Hollister, American Eagle, etc. HOWEVER. They will not take those brands if they are 2+ years old. It's not gonna happen. So don't get mad. 4. If you haven't ever worked in retail you need to know that if we seem "rude" to you it only means that you just asked us the same question that 50+ people have already asked. Be patient. Be kind. If you are courteous, we will be also. 5. Going through buys is DIFFICULT. Everything has to be searched. Size, year made (we know how to read tags), brand, etc. 6. It is FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. Plan accordingly. We do not shift the buys around. If your buy gets stuck behind someone's large buy then you probably should have gotten there earlier. All in all, if someone is rude to you then just say "okay" and then go find another employee. It is very hard to work there, I will admit. But know that the majority of us are doing our best. read more

This is the most UNprofessionally run business I have EVER been to. Employees laughing at multiple customers, one getting into a fight with a customer. Literally yelling and slamming things. Slow, lazy, unprofessional. Also I had never been to a Plato's Closet, politely asked how it worked, and the girl looked at me like I was an alien, and answered all of my very basic questions with attitude. Wish I had asked for names. Especially after waiting an hour and a half to get my offer (was told t would be about 30min). The manager should be ashamed if the employees are not. Dear angry platos closet customers, Id like to start off by saying when your clothes arent accepted, theres a reason. Its not that the employee doesnt like you, no. Just because your clothing is "name brand" and its over $500 worth of clothing, doesnt mean its something platos can accept. Sorry, they wont take your 4 year old american eagle shirt. Sorry they wont take your $200 leather jacket that looks like something grandpa wears. They buy CURRENT clothing and styles for TEENS that dont smell like smoke, bo, and or pit stains. So go get a job if you need the money so bad that youre willing to get on yelp and complain about a process you know nothing about. They sort through clothes all day everyday. ITS THERE JOB! Im pretty sure they know what they are doing. As far as the messy store? Why dont you come in on a saturday afternoon and see how busy it is in there. I love buying jeans from this place. I got a pair of "look like new" 7 for all mankind jeans on sale for $30! The one day I went in they had a ton of American eagle and cheaper brand jeans but they also had a ton of high dollar jeans. I wasn't real impressed with the tops they had. A lot of Forever 21 and Hollister clothes, which is cool but they had tank tops for $10 when you can get them brand new for $15. But the jeans are definitely worth the trip! read more

Customer service was pretty terrible. I'm an avid platos closet customer and was visiting from out of state when I decided to show my friend platos closet. Embarrassed I took her here. We were on our way to a concert Friday night (11/6) when she wanted something cute to wear, we quickly stopped in around 8:30 and it's like we were shamed for coming in then. The workers totally stared at us the whole time and scoffed walking past us while they were closing. We weren't greeted walking in and they locked the doors while we were still in there! Keep in mind people, it's the customers that shop at your store that keep you having a job. If you don't like what you do, since I'm going to assume you don't by dragging your feet all over the store putting clothes away, I suggest looking elsewhere and stop wasting your manager's time or the owner's. Won't be coming back to this location if I ever come back to Texas. read more
