You have to wade through some terrible Kohl's and Charlotte Russe rags, and pass off the apathetic, aloof attitude of the people who work here, but it can be worth it. Be willing to ask for the the BCBG dress that's on the display and deal with the extra-loud, godawful pop radio, and it's possible to find a cute name-brand dress for $16, a season of sweaters for next to nothing, a ton of T-shirts, maybe even your brand of jeans in your size or some barely worn heels for $12 a pair. I walked out with an outfit for my Vegas trip for $35. If you're the kind of person who expects superior customer service from a couple of badly dressed, 16-year-old consignment retail workers, you're probably the kind of person who shouldn't shop here. Oh, and certainly don't go here looking for big-girl clothes. By that, I mean mature (and physically too--this is juniors' stockpile). Sure, you can find components of mature outfits but you'll also find plenty of sequined mini skirts and T-shirts with dumbass phrases on them. Beware of the accessories: I bought some earrings for $7 only to find that the Plato's Closet price tag was hiding a Charlotte Russe tag marked with a lower price. Shame on you Plato's Closet! Since I don't really buy first-hand clothes that often, I don't ever try to sell to Plato's Closet. I do know that if it can't be found in a suburban mall within the last two seasons, they probably won't buy it. I like to think of Plato's Closet as lazy girl's thrifting. You're paying slightly higher prices than a thrift store and won't find anything vintage, but you won't find yourself elbowing hipsters waiting for the dressing room or in grave risk of a parking ticket (ahem, Buffalo Exchange), and your diligent sifting will yield results if you're looking for something specific. The best part about this Arvada location is that I can easily take right turns into Black and Read, Hobby Lobby, Target, Panera Bread, and Sunflower Market on my way back to Denver via Wads. Maybe even some Olde Town Arvada if I'm feelin' fancy and want some Udi's. Check, check, check, check and check! read more

Im sorry but this place could use a make over, Ive gone in with bags of clothes even with original price tags still on from forever 21, papaya, etc, a perfect condition brand name betsey johnson purse and various pairs of almost new heels and they took none of it. I enjoy coming to this location when I see they have some decent things posted on their instagram, but if you want to hold something and actually have it held for you, go to the Boulder location. I commented on a post a few minutes after it had posted and asked them to hold the item for me, no response. I understand that due to busy store hours and such. I called the store a few hours later to see if they had it held or not, and it had already sold. If you post something and want to allow people to hold it until they can get there, atleast stick to that and dont give that false image. read more

By Gwen Stefani t-shirts (that I paid $70.00 for at Neiman Marcus!)... It took these twits nearly an hour to look through my things! There wasn't even anyone else in the store! I have sold to multiple Plato's locations and this is by far the worst. Every time I come here with multiple bags of designer clothes (lululemon, aged demon, free people, Anthropologie, seven for all mankind, etc.) maybe one or two seasons old, great condition, sometimes with tags, they buy maybe 3-4 items for $20. They offered me $8 for a one season old Tory Burch bag. When I would go to any Plato's closet store in Pennsylvania they would compliment me on how great of condition my clothes are in, buy virtually everything, and I would leave with upwards of $300. Whatever items they did not take they would give me a very specific reason why (not in style, not in season, has a stain, etc) This location it's like pulling teeth to get them to give you an explanation as to why they won't take items. Tonight when I went to pick up, they took 9 out of over a hundred designer items. I asked them why they didn't take any of my free people, lululemon, athleta, anthem, etc. especially the items with tags. The girls explanation "I don't know usually were supposed to take these items"..... meanwhile you look around the store and they're selling forever 21 sweaters with holes in the sleeves. I asked her to explain what she meant and she just again said "I don't know". I said I'm sorry the locations I used to go to in Pennsylvania always gave me an explanation so I knew what would sell and what wouldn't and didn't waste 3 hours. She said again "I don't know were normally supposed to buy free people but here's your stuff". While handing me back THREE bins of 1-2 year old perfect condition free people items. Not impressed. Recently went in here to sell some designer handbags. I worked at DSW for four years and during my time there I bought many handbags. I brought in two totes of handbags and wallets, all in great condition and they only bought 10 items from me and gave me $26. I would have turned it down but I needed money for rent so I took what I could get. A few years ago I also brought in about 25 pairs of shoes, also from DSW (I have a problem ok!) some hardly worn and a few never worn and they wouldn't take a single pair. On my most recent visit I walked up and down the aisles and was shocked at the quality of things they are selling. Some of the shoes are so disgusting I wouldn't take them if they were free, and the clothes all looked ratty and some even had holes and threads coming out. My local thrift store has better items and at better prices! If you want to sell here try Letgo or Poshmark first. Use Platos as a last resort only. read more

Horrible customer service. Horrible. My experience was this: two employees, two customers halfway done checking out and I walk through the front door. The employee that wasn't at the cash register was straightening jeans on a rack and ignored me the entire time was there. The other asked me what I needed, I told her I'd like to sell some clothes. She told me it would be an hour an a half wait. I said, 'excuse me?' looking around at the empty store minus the spare clerk and the two girls almost done with their purchase. She waved to a pile of clothes on the floor behind the counter and said that all of that was before me. There is an empty store, two employees and a hour and a half wait. I understand that there might have been people in the dressing rooms, but come on. You can't help the person standing in front of you for an hour and a half or you don't want to? So I went to Buffalo Exchange instead, walked into a packed store with five people in line ahead of me and had my clothes sold in under ten minutes. Platos closet is amazing! I can find brand new clothes with tags from places like Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, Forever 21 and more! Sometimes the wait is long because those girls are busy! Do you not see the 50 other people there? They are running a business there so obviously they need to check other people and answer the phone, not just drop everything for you. Just ask them to go through stuff with you and get to know the store. I bring in good quality clothes and get good money for them. Of course when you bring in clothes with holes and have dated tags from '04 they aren't going to take them. Just like Cat said its a clothing store not a goodwill. I hate the Westminster Store!! The employees were rude and very slow, and it wasn't even busy. I brought in two huge bags full of clothes, purses, shoes, belts, swim suits, pretty much a little of everything and they did not take ONE thing, because it was older then 2 years old. Psh yeah right...some of my items still had tags on them. I understand they don't want old, run down clothes, but they cannot expect you to give away all your new, fashionable clothes. DO NOT come here! Went to the platos closet near lone tree two days ago. They were so nice, took all 5 bags and were willing to look through items. I came in here to this location off 88th on Monday at 3:30pm (management look who was working) and RUDE. I opened the door with four bags and was told, it's a two bag maximum per person before I even was through the metal detectors. Then as I was trying to quickly determine which two bags they said only spring and it must have a label less then 18 months old! What?! Honestly I felt like I was being treated like a charity case when I was bringing in men's and women's items (some worth tags still) that were all very current brands like H&M/ Abercrombie and North Face. All for ages 30 and under. I'm leaving here pissed off due to the lack of customer service, planning to email corporate and will never be back. I'll drive the distance from now on to find another consignment store. I run a business and if I had employees act that way they'd be terminated. read more

Decent selection of guys stuff, but the staff makes you feel like you're inconveniencing them just by walking through the door. My girlfriend and I brought in 2 bags, per their guidelines. They called after only 15 minutes for us to pick up what they didn't want. They only chose a couple items out of the bags, and a lot of this was name-brand with tags attached. When we got home and looked at the bags, it was obvious that they had only looked through the first few garments in each bag. Great concept as a business to up-cycle, but you have to employ people who actually care. Take your business to Wilderness Exchange, Yogi Exchange, or any one of the other similar small businesses in the Denver area. You'll feel more respected, you will be supporting a small business, someone will actually look through your items, and they will give you an itemized list justifying their purchase/sale costs. read more

First and last time at platos closet. I brought in a small bag of about 10 pieces of clothing. After an hour of waiting, I asked how much longer they thought it might take, and the girl working there told me that she didn't know and I would just have to wait. It ended up taking an hour and 45 minutes for my bag to be looked at. While I was waiting I looked around the store and saw tons of clothes that didn't actually fit their "criteria" of what they claim they accept. I brought in items from forever21, urban outfitters, Ralph Lauren, Levi, etc. They offered to buy three of my items ($90 brand new romper from urban outfitters, $50 Levi's, and a t shirt from Ross) for $9 total. The way they run their business and the items they claim they take Vs. what they actually take is laughable. Needless to say I took my items back and I'll take them elsewhere. LOVE this location! Thew new owners who took over a few years ago have done a total 180 with this location. I went to the Lakewood location because it is closer to my work, I received $16.00. Fine, I'll take it happily and move on. Ended up being in Arvada/Westminster area with my basket of clothes still in my car. I decided while we go eat and shop at Target to drop off and try to sell at this location. When I walked in the poor girl at the front desk was being yelled at because of a price of a purse. I think it was priced $40.00 but normally retail goes anywhere from $300.00-$500.00. I honestly was going buy the purse if the lady didn't because you can't even find that kind of deal on Ebay! Anyways, I dropped off my clothes and then when we came back my friend and I are were chatting with the front desk girl. I wish I could remember her name because she was amazing! I think she had red hair, but she works at both the westminster and colorado blvd location. I hope she is a manager or something because the way she carried herself during that difficult customer is something to learn from for anyone who works in customer service. She hands me the bucket and offers me $80.00!! Yes! Done and done! I feel so much more valued at this location and they took the time to go through each of my clothes where lakewood didn't even unfold any of them (I watched them in disgust). I will be making the extra drive to this location from now on. They also did have really cute things on their racks too, not damaged and well priced. I was just not in there to buy clothes that day. I went here a couple of days ago to sell. I shop a lot and I bought clothes that I never wore so I thought I would give this place a try. I absolutely hated my experience here. First and foremost, this is a business. There is no excuse for the teenage girls that work here to be wearing shorts so short that I can see their butt cheeks. I was seriously disgusted the entire time. Now I'm not one to judge and realize everyone has their days, but one of the employees who seemed to be running the show looked as if she had rolled out of bed, threw on a pair of shorts that were 3 sizes too small and showed up to work. I usually don't care about crap like that but isn't this place mostly for young teenage girls? What kind of example are the employers setting when they allow their employees to dress however they please. The second issue I had was with the clothing that they sell. I definitely didn't intend on buying anything from there especially after seeing the employees, but they make you stay in the store so I was browsing through the clothing. What I saw was pretty gross. A lot of the clothes were dirty. A lot of the shirts had deodorant stains and human/dog hair on them. I'm not a "germaphobe" in anyway but I felt grossed out touching their clothes and wanted to wash my hands afterwards. Thirdly, I wasn't paid fairly for my clothes. Now I realize I can't expect much, but I got paid 17$ dollars and most of the clothes I sold had not been worn. There were a pair of jeans I sold that were at least 60$ and I probably got like 5 bucks for them. The only reason this really irks me is because I was looking at their prices and they aren't discounted too much. They were selling a pair of jeans very similar to the ones they bought from me for 45$. It just makes me wonder how much they bought them for. I'm very curious to know how these 17 year old girls are deciding what to pay their sellers for their clothing. I think they should set their standards for their employees a little higher and I don't want to see anyone get ripped off. I would recommend never buying from/ or selling to this store. We have both shopped & sold to this location several times over the years. At times the customer service is subpar at its best. But whatever the end justified the means, raising to teenage girls 18 mths apart this make for an economic plus. But last night was the final straw for this family of women. We arrived to a muggy warm store. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes. Turns out the AC was broken and they would not open the front door to allow for some air. Of course their awesome policy of not being allowed to leave we had to wait it out. We were treated to listening to the staff gossip about management/ownership (LOUDLY) & discuss getting icees and what flavor as they ran around to get money to pay for such icees and sending an employee to retrieve them (please don't misunderstand me, they should have something cold to drink, I just don't think the whole store needed to listen to the drink requests being yelled out around the store) then to top it off we got to watch an employees friend come in and receive immediate service. Finally a VERY HOT hour later they were ready to finish our transaction. When I say it was hot, my daughter became very faint and had to leave the store. I had to sign for her transactions and it took her 15 minutes in the AC in the car to get color back into her face. To say we won't be back is mild! I will tell EVERYONE I know to please find ANYWHERE else to go to shop/sell clothes!!! After reading the previous comments, I fully AGREE!!! Their clothing standards have gone down substantially. So to say that we are parting ways with this store is no real loss. read more

I'm so frustrated with this location! I saw on IG a few days ago, they were having their 'mystery box' sale today. So I got their right around when it opened (about 1015 am) When I got there, there were two other customers around the registers, but no one was in line paying (the employees didn't have the registers open, or the "tags" they needed to ring people up, is what they said) So I walked up to an employee, asked if they were having the mystery box sale she said yes and asked me what size I needed. I told her a small/medium. She said ok, walked in the back and grabbed a box and held it behind the counter until I could pay. A few customers then came up to me and asked how I got a box and I told them you just have to ask., So they did, and one of the girls asked for the same size box as I, and the employee said mine was the last one. SO THEN a register finally opens, the employees had no clue how to handle it because of course now more people are in line so they randomly grabbed whoever was in front of them EVEN THOUGH their were only 2 girls that had gotten their before me. Long story short, when I went up to pay they said they "didn't have my size" so I politely tried to explain that I had already asked this girl for one, and she had grabbed it for me. They had one behind the counter but it was ",on hold" for someone else. I again tried to explain that that didn't seem fair and one of the employees, guessing a manager SNAPPED at me and said they didn't have anymore!!!!! The employee ringing me up even apologized for what had just happened. The fact they sold my box to someone else is baffling They didn't have registers or "tags" before they opened Didn't know how to help customers who got there first. Whoever owns this company needs to get some real management in their and train the girls on empathy. The whole experience was chaotic and poorly run. After waking up early on my only day off, to drive A FREAKING HALF HOUR I ended up with a box of junk that isn't even my size. They had a sign at the counter, saying to "let them make things right before writing a negative review" and guess what? I did, the manager had so many opportunities to see I was (rightfully) upset and offer maybe a discount for next time, or at the very least BE UNDERSTANDING OF WHY I WAS UPSET! I will be sharing this experience with friends and family and won't be returning. I've had other situations with poor service here, as some of the employees can be rude, but up until this point, nothing was worth reviewing. would give 0 stars if I could. Edit*** I wish I would've read these comments before selling there on previous times. I took a basket of clothes, and a Michael Korres bag in to sell. After hearing AND watching the girls ow and awe over some of the cute things I had, they offered me $30 not bad right. To preface this, I need to say that I worked in retail for many years, in pretty much every role you can have- loss prevention, styling, merchandising. I also purchased & priced clothing for a similar kind of business. The selection and pricing here show a lack of experience with original price point, quality, condition/wear, and age. EX: there was very gently worn pair of Vince Camuto loafers next to a pair of Target/F21 type booties that were actually falling apart. The $ difference between these 2 pairs was negligible, even though the Camutos are of way superior condition & quality. Website says they look for "name brands, cool, hip, trendy, clean and in good condition", so that was my expectation, but I was severely disappointed. At re-sale shops, it's impossible to only take clothing in immaculate condition- most people WEAR their stuff a few times before selling it. But, what I saw as I browsed was too pre-loved to justify the price. Worn-out & thin butts on denim, shirts and sweaters that weren't washed correctly. When I think name-brand, what comes to mind isn't Walmart & Target, and you shouldn't be charging $10-$15 for a used pair of Mossimo jeans when they're $15-$20 brand new. Some stuff was priced so close to original cost that it's just not fair. They say clothing should be current but I saw items that were really old, like a pair of designer denim that I owned in 2009. Good things: I was greeted (apathetically, but still). Decent selection of clothing in each section & size. Active-wear in pretty nice condition. With a shop crammed full of that much stuff, the lack of random clothing on the ground was impressive. Overall, I was bummed. Seems like either the store description needs to be updated to better reflect the merch, or the buyers need a refresher. Or maybe both. read more

Phew, it's not just me. I can vouch for all the other poor reviews. I had a ton of very nice Levi, Chaps and other young mens clothes. While I waited I looked a the racks I saw lots of Target and even Sears. I was informed they don't buy Levi's jeans or Chaps brand. I didn't have any Target in the box. They declined the entire lot. On the plus side, while I waited and searched the racks, I did get to hear a great, loud conversation between the staff on the various tattoos they have, where they are and why the regret them. OMG one of the most amazing shopping experiences I've ever had! I am arrived for their $1 sale today and I was greeted by Katerina. She was on my beck and call, whenever I went she was there, as soon as I had a couple things she'd come over and put them in a bin for me. 5 to 10 minutes would pass and she'd circle around me and collect the new things I had gathered. Felt like I had a personal shopper , she was so sweet and kind and had no problem helping me for the two hours I was there. At checkout, Katerina was there along with Casey ringing me up and they were just so pleasant to talk to and so sweet making conversation while they were ringing up my 74 items. I absolutely loved Plato's Closet. They had a variety of clothing making it easy to find clothes you like. Much of the clothing was from big stores like Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle, and Aeropostale. And although the clothes were from expensive stores the clothes were amazingly cheap. You probably would pay a fourth of what you would if you actually went to those stores. I got a Hollister sweatshirt that was originally 50 dollars for only 14 bucks. They keep their store stocked very well. I can guarantee that everybody who goes into that store will at least find one thing to buy. Not only will you leave there with stylish cheap clothes but you will want to come back for more! read more

I got my clothes home and prepared them for a wash when i saw the $15 leggings i bought have a huge hole on the inside of the leg. The sweater i bought is also ripped. Sucks this is what they're selling. My fault for not inspecting the clothes more :( What sucks is i can't even return these items because i took the tags off. Wasted $25. This was terrible the staff is young and paying zero attention to you, I had to remind the girl that checked me out to give me back my clothing they did not purchase. She was entirely too busy talking about her night out. I would rather donate everything than deal with millennials that have no idea how to behave while at work. I wish I could give no stars. I went in today to sell some items, some still had tags on them. I asked how long it would take to get through my box and was told 15-30 minutes. Well, 1 hour 45 minutes later I was finally done. The problem is the untrained staff. I had all of my items nicely organized in a large plastic tote, ready to be gone through. There were 3 girls working behind the counter and all 3 of them had a hand in my order at some point. Whenever a customer walked in they would stop what they were doing which was a huge time waster. If they had one person processing in coming orders, one person checking out shoppers and answering the phone, and another person filling in where needed all customers would have a better experience. When I got my items back they were balled up and shoved back in my bin. Some of the new items with tags that they did not purchase had the tags ripped off because of the haphazard way everything was shoved into the bin. There was a sign on the counter saying to ask management for assistance before posting a bad review. Obviously, this is an issue they continuously deal with. I tried to speak about my experience with the "head person" but she kept talking over me, so how much do they really care? I can't blame the young girls working in the store because they have no direction on what to do, but the girl that was in charge definitely had a horrible attitude and very poor customer service skills. read more

I've gone in 4 times with clothes and they didn't buy anything NOTHING I've bought these clothes in the last year and have wore a handful of time I lost a bunch of weight and don't fit in them anymore. and they are going to tell me they are out of style. Don't sell here, don't shop here. Complete waste of time. I just dropped off at least 30 pieces of clothing, all washed and in great condition, maybe 3-4 years old at the most, some clothes were fairly new. They didn't take ONE piece of clothing. Claiming it was because of "general wear and tear and out of style." I am a 21 year old college student...they claimed that they only wanted "name brand clothes for high school and college students" and that's exactly what I brought. I was obviously surprised and the girl said "Yep. Need any help taking that back to your car?" I will not shop at Platos closet ever again if that's how they are going to treat their customers, and honestly I know it's hard but I think they need to lower their standards.
