I love having this place in the area but, as of late I am not very impressed. My orders keep getting messed up. I am paying for addons and picking up my order without the add-ons. It may feel like only a few dollars and nothing to worth getting upset about...but this is truly an expensive place. Growing up going to the Jersey Shore every week, Playa Bowls became a staple when they first came out on 8th Ave - I was hooked. After moving to Boston, I craved Playa Bowls and when I found out there was a store opened up on Comm Ave, I knew I had to go. My go-to is the Pura Vida bowl and it has been consistently amazing every time I've ordered! I introduced my coworkers to this place and they loved it! Fair warning though - since it is right by Boston College, you can except a long line when the weather is nice and school is in session! Honestly the best acai bowls I have ever had! Never had anything like it. The menu is so big that it'll take you about 10mins just to choose what you want! I got the nutella acai bowl and it was heaven, highly recommend. Playa bowls is located right across he street from BC and next to the T stop. It's been very popular since its opening and is always flooded with BC students. It is a small quant place, but with tons of flavor and personality. It was a coastal beach vibe with the decor. I have tried multiple bowls here and have been very satisfied each time. Since it is a popular place the lines have been decently long which lead to longer wait times. Some of the staff is new so they are learning which is expected. Those far my favorite bowls are the Pura Vida, Nutella, and the Pacific bowl. There are so many options, but if you can't choose or want to mix it up you can create your own. With this option you can combine to flavors and do a green and açaí bowl, with the options of 2 free fruits. There are also oats bowls and smoothies to mix up as well. This is a great option for a quick small/medium meal in the morning as a breakfast, post work-out or something to hold you prior to a meal. read more

Terrible experience at this Playa Bowls, my food took over an hour to be made. I take my break from 11:00am to 12:00pm, knowing this I ordered my food at 10:45am. I arrived to this location at 11:30am and my food was still not ready. There was only 3 people working and normally there are 5 to 6 people. I received my food at 12:00pm, this is an 1 hour and 15 minutes after I ordered it. The management here should be mindful of lunch/ peak busy hours and ensure they are properly staffed during these times. Please add more staff during lunch hours to avoid these types of issues going forward. Hopefully this is addressed and changes are made by the management here. read more

This is a review for the one in Boston, but can't find that one. The vibe in there was relaxed, super, indie with the decorations. But the music they were playing was aggressive rap music from the 2000s. It was way too loud (and I'm a young 20 year old). I wanted to relax but felt like I was yelling to my friends over the music. I've been here twice and had issues both times. The first time was right after they opened so I assumed the issues were just kinks that would get worked out. I decided to try again recently because I've heard good things. Overall their bowls are really good, but their ability to deal with substitutions and allergies feels lacking. I ordered an 8th ave bowl with substitutions. I had the girl taking my order double check my substitutions since I've had issues in the past and she was even the one who made my bowl. My bowl was missing things that should've been there and also had the granola I had asked to have removed. They have SO many options for smoothie bases (acai, pitaya, green, coconut, banana) and toppings, it's hard not to find something you'll love. Today was my first time ever at Playa Bowls and I honestly must say I am extremely impressed. They have all the makings of a successful business in the Boston area. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I especially like how you can split the bowl and try two different flavors or mix them if you prefer. The facility is very clean from the front of house to the bathrooms. I was even watching the runnings in the kitchen and everything is very clean and all of the food is clearly made fresh to order. My friend and I ordered two bowls today and they came out in less than ten minutes. The staff even took careful consideration into her dietary preferences (they offer gluten free granola). The employees were friendly and efficient. Also, there is a long list of menu options and they are great about add-in's and substitutions. I will habitually be visiting Playa Bowls in the future. My one hope though is that they open up more locations in Massachusetts! read more
