Spent the weekend in Boston and as expected, we tried lobster rolls at a few different places and Yankee Lobster came out on top.... by a long shot too! You get quality and quantity here. The lobster rolls are thiccckkkk and you are getting a generous amount of lobster. Both the hot and the cold rolls were delicious. The lobster the fresh and seasoned well and the roll itself was perfectly presented. The side of fries was a nice touch too. The food came out quickly, the staff was incredibly friendly, and having both indoor/outdoor seating was a nice bonus!

Stopped in with a relatively large group of 8 after a convention for a taste of Boston lobster. I got a hot lobster roll, and found it much better than others I've had. I would've preferred more sauce or flavor of some kind, but the meat was high quality, although $40. It was a bit hard to accommodate our large group, so note that the restaurant is small, though there is an outside table area. The theming was also super cute. If I was local, I'd consider returning!

Yankee Lobster on the Waterfront is exactly what you want when you are craving a classic lobster roll. No frills, just big chunks of fresh, delicious lobster tucked into buttery bread. Simple, satisfying, and done right. It is the kind of place that does not try to be fancy, just focuses on quality and flavor. Perfect stop if you want an authentic Boston seafood experience without all the extras.

Wow. Such large portions. Delicious lobster rolls. There were large chunks of meat in each sandwich. They had amazing flavor. One of the best lobster rolls in Boston. Definitely worth the trip.

On a cold rainy April day we decided to have lunch at Yankee Lobster. I loved the quaint beach shack feel in Boston. I had to get the NE clam chowder since it was cold outside. It didn't disappoint me. It had a ton of clams and a thick consistency. I ate the hot lobster roll & my friends got the cold. It was an amazing meal.

Is this place still coasting on its name? I fear to say yes there was nothing spectacular about here. We had pulled lobster seamer clams and the crab lobster roll. Plenty of parking stamps. OK you grab your own food though. It's not like they have to do a ton which is OK it works for the business. Had a soda and sat there and try to enjoy myself, but I just felt like it wasn't anything that was oh my God how awesome was it to come here? Maybe I'm missing the mark because I saw a lot of people just having the fried food.

Stopped by for a quick bite with friends and tried the lobster rolls. I got the Junior size, and my friend got the regular, which looked almost identical but was $10 more, so keep that in mind. (Unless they messed up and gave her the wrong size without realizing). That said, the lobster roll itself was delicious, and the clam chowder was flavorful. I was STUFFED at the end of this. The owner/manager was friendly and attentive. When I come to Boston I'll consider lobster rolls either here or Quincy Market because Quincy market does have a great atmosphere outside the shop, whereas Yankee doesn't in that one spot.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Great lobster rolls and more. I wanted to get a lobster roll while in Boston and noticed that a trusted Yelp friend gave this place high marks. The place had a rough-hewn charm, with all manner of nautical and Boston-centric decor. I got a traditional lobster roll with fries and the hubby got the plain Mac n cheese. It was already pretty crowded for early dinner, so we got a table out on their pleasant patio. I liked how they used old buoy things for numbers. The lobster roll was delicious--pricey, as most are, but with a generous amount of lobster that wasn't overly goopy on a roll that wasn't overly buttered. Too bad the fries weren't terribly fresh. The hubby's Mac and cheese was good, if a bit on the bland side. A bit of hot stuff cured that right up, though. The lobster roll was the star--as it should be.

This elegant "shack" was highly recommended by our concierge and turned out to be a great and impressively authentic place to get a seafood meal. Its location near the harbor contributed to that aura. We visited on a weekday evening and it was a bit busy. The indoor seating was somwhat modest with respect to capacity. There was also some outdoor and patio seating available, but eating indoors was our preference. We indeed managed to find a spot to enjoy our meal inside. The format here is walk-up-and-order. We found the service to be friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. There were several great menu choices, but we decided on their signature Lobster Roll. It was not cheap ($40.99), but it was a great choice! It did come with fries. We also tried the Calamari, which was great as well. Both were very tasty. I had the House Wine to drink, which was a nice accompaniment. My wife had a Diet Coke. With food, drinks, tax and tip, our total was $88. At $44 each with no leftovers to take away for a supplemental meal, in most cases I would question the value given that this was a very informal dining experience. However, the fact that this was a special and a somewhat iconic experience for us during our Biston visit still made it worth the cost. I'll also note that it would have been easy to eat significantly cheaper if we had avoided the lobster. But the lobster was indeed why we went there, and I would say it was worth it for a special treat. We may not be as extravagant on our next visit.

Plenty of options to choose from in addition to the daily specials! The staff were friendly and efficient as people piled into the small entryway on a cold Sunday afternoon. The service was quick and the food was plenty! Lobster roll was delicious and the Yankee Fish Sandwich was full of flavor!

Traditional lobster roll was 10/10 as were the fries that came with it. Up until now, I thought I was team hot lobster rolls....but this one might've made me change my mind. Vibes were immaculate, playing great 90s RnB throwbacks albeit a bit small of a restaurant as a whole and not great for large groups. You can tell this place serves a lot of seafood because when you pass by the kitchen on the way to the restroom, it smells fishyyyyyyyy like a fish market, whew!

I went to Yankee Lobster during a Boston trip this year and i'm so glad this stop was on the itinerary! The lobster roll was absolutely delicious. You can pick either a hot or cold roll and market prices (can get pretty pricing but that's expected for lobster rolls) The atmosphere was cool too. The patio-ish area is gorgeous with lots of light and greenery. A must try spot in Boston!

A sweet place that I have been wanting to try for years! You order your food and drink and they use a numbered buoy to find your table. You might think that there isn't enough seating but there is a place beside the main area. My honey and I split a Fisherman's platter...fish, scallops, shrimp, clams, and fries. We also got onion rings. It was surprisingly cooked to perfection and delicious. We met some tourists there who loved it as well. There is parking and a small fish counter for you to take fresh seafood home. I loved the atmosphere & music. Staff was great too. Will be going back. Especially on Friday's during lent.

Are reservations required for this saturday for dinner?

I don't believe they take reservations, but you simply order at the counter and they bring it to your table. There is also seating outside (covered) if the inside seats are all taken.

This year, I finally made it -- and it absolutely did not disappoint. I had a phenomenal time trying their lobster roll. The lobster chunks inside were thick, juicy, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The butter was so good, and since the roll was served warm, it was honestly perfect for the chilly Boston weather that day. It warmed me right up. I will say, it is definitely a little pricey, especially coming from out of town where I'm not used to spending that kind of money on what is technically "just a sandwich," but honestly, it was 100% worth it. It was a phenomenal lobster roll, and I would absolutely go back and order another one. The only small downside was that we got there about 15 minutes before closing, and the staff did seem to rush us out a little bit, even though we were sitting outside on the patio while they cleaned up. Coming from the South, that felt a little strange to me because that's probably not something we would do back home, but honestly, it still would not stop me from coming back. At the end of the day, they know what they've got -- an incredible lobster roll with soft, buttery bread and fresh lobster that truly lives up to the hype.

After one visit, it became very clear why this place has remained a waterfront institution since 1925. Don't let the long line scare you away -- that line is part of the proof that you are in the right place. James Hook has a classic no-frills New England seafood atmosphere focused on one thing above all else: exceptionally fresh lobster. There's plenty of outdoor seating available, and on a beautiful afternoon with temperatures in the low 80s, sitting outside under the umbrellas overlooking the city made for a perfect lunch setting. We split a large lobster roll since we had eaten a big breakfast earlier in the day, and it was more than enough for two people looking for a lighter meal. The lobster itself was incredibly fresh, sweet, tender, and generously portioned on a perfectly toasted split-top roll with drawn butter served on the side. Simple ingredients executed correctly -- exactly what a proper Boston lobster roll should be. We also tried the stuffed clam, which had a rich, savory stuffing with plenty of flavor and paired perfectly with a squeeze of fresh lemon. There's nothing overly polished or tourist-trapped about James Hook & Co. This is simply authentic Boston seafood done right. If you find yourself anywhere near the waterfront and want the real lobster roll experience, this place is absolutely worth the visit.

We tried 4 different types and every single one tasted super fresh, clean, and just really high quality. You can tell they know what they're doing here, even the way they shuck it is nice and clean, no shell pieces or anything. Their menu actually has like 10+ kinds of oysters, highly selective and premium. I really wish we had more time (and stomach space) to try more. But we already had like 3 dinners planned that night lol so this was more like a "stop by and eat as much oysters as possible" situation. Honestly I'm pretty sure the other food here is just as good, based on what I saw on other tables. Definitely coming back next time I'm in Boston.

(I'm certain the staff are aware that many of their diners express shock, once the price is disclosed...) Many folks simply make an assumption or a guesstimate, as to the price, when they see 'MP' on a menu, and this is usually based upon their prior experiences, ordering such a menu item. So, for example, I was thinking the lobster roll might be in the $40-45 range. So imagine my utter shock, when we received the bill, to see a charge for $69?? I have never in my life had such an expensive lobster roll. Yes, it was delicious, and the housemade potato chips were also great. The slaw was also good (though it was a very tiny amount...I would have liked more). But boy, did that price shock me. I would normally never have voluntarily ordered a $69 lobster roll. It simply never would have occurred to me, that a place would ever charge that much....
